Yoko Ono they could never make me hate you

What do u think of beatles fans who hate yoko? Personally, I genuinely don't understand what yoko has done to stand out in the beatles lore as a particularly heinous character in the story. Had to unfollow several authors on Tumblr bc they usually gas john up and put yoko down, like they didn't come in a set.

I don’t think anyone’s required to like Yoko but I also agree that many people seem to hate her for behaviour that they’d happily overlook from any of the Beatles. The main problem here is no one is typically joining this fandom cause they’re interested in Yoko, ykwim. They’re here because they liked the Beatles and all the lore comes after that, so naturally everyone’s going to have a bias for the boys themselves. Yoko did do some insane shit to John (and is also within the Beatles narrative in an antagonistic position to Paul) so it’s natural that people who love John will find that off-putting, even if it’s not necessarily a fair way to view her, but they never really look at the crazy shit John did to her or anyone else in the same negative way. Plus, as with any fandom, there is racism and misogyny at work.

But there’s plenty of people in this fandom who do like Yoko, which is good! I think her position in the Beatles story is so fascinating because she is in this weird confluence of like getting blamed for shit that isn’t her fault while also doing some absolutely fucked up stuff herself. She’s not an easily definable character in the lore and she’s not “relatable” the way, say, Linda is relatable, so you sort of have to do some work to make sense of her. I think my main gripe with Yoko haters is they don’t give her the grace of trying to understand her the way they do for anyone else in the Beatles story.

Daisy Chaining; Or, Connecting the TBR!

Does anybody besides me like to find Connections between Seemingly/Largely Unrelated Books and use those connections to plot a route through the old TBR?? I don't know about you, but I have a LOT of books I want to read, and sometimes I get Whelmed™ by my choices. So I'll either pick a small stack and make that a particular month's micro-TBR (good if I have specific Goals!), OR I'll start with something I really want to read, and I'll daisy chain from there.

For example: I'd been waiting for TRANSLATION STATE to release in paperback since the hardback was announced (because Translators, my beloveds). So I annihilated that in a couple days (it was very good, all right??), and then I had to figure out where to go next despite cruising on the Translators High.

Because the Translators' fucked up body horror (which I mean mostly affectionately, but I'm side eyeing the matching pretty hard) was at times....goopy...I thought a book about a shapeshifter whose default form is an amorphous lump would be good next, which got me to SOMEONE YOU CAN BUILD A NEST IN (which I also enjoyed!! shout-out to @asexualbookbird for gifting it to meee!!).

Since NEST is Monsters in a Fantasy Forest with a side of Politics and Power, my next read is THE BUTCHER OF THE FOREST (because it's also...wait for it...Monsters in a Fantasy Forest with a side of Politics and Power). And after that, I'll come OUT of the forest with AT THE EDGE OF THE WOODS, which promises to be weird and vaguely monstrous but with a literary bent (I put it on one of my writing TBR lists, and my general "read this by the end of 2024" list).

So, yeah! That's how you daisy chain to get from SF to fantasy/horror to fantasy to weird Lit Fic in the span of four (4) books, while maintaining something like a continuity. By the end of the year, my Books Read shelf looks a little chaotic, but there generally really is a rhyme AND a reason about it!

If Bunga, Ono, and Beshte DID adopt a kid, what species do you think they would be and what would they be like?

If Beshte, Bunga and Ono were to adopt a kid they’d be a ball of sunshine!!! Extremely reckless and hazardous (courtesy of Bunga), extremely particular about their looks (courtesy of Ono), and extremely friendly (courtesy of Beshte). I like to think baobabfruit kid would be the type of kid you kind of need on a leash, not because they’re mischievous and troublesome, but more so because you’ll find them in the weirdest and most frightening situations. eg: baobabfruit kid will be found trying to make friends with a deadly predator (trying to make friends from Beshte, and absolutely no fear of the predator from Bunga). point is, kid’s gonna have a bunch of traits from all three of them!!

Baobabfruit kid will also be inheriting traits from their aunts and uncles, especially competitiveness from Fuli. they’d also be super good at getting away with trouble because they’ve inherited that innocent look from Beshte, but also would be good at escape routes because one of their dads is the smartest!!! doesn’t mean they’ll always act logicially tho, I mean. cmon they’re Bunga’s kid.

overall just a ball of energy and sunshine and kindness and care and concern for everyone around them. definitely wanna go more into how they’d be like in another post! as for species.. haha. Cough. please help me decide a species guys I am Struggling because I don’t wanna choose like an apex predator predator bcoz ??? idk parents are all omnivore herbivore range. but also why does africa and india have little to no cool omnivores/herbivores. but yea I’m vv much open to suggestions for this little fella’s species!!

I isolated the part where you can hear their va's so I can listen to it over and over again to determine who they are.

So far the only one I'm a 100% certain on is Ono Daisuke as Narita (heard it myself immediately), and a lot of people are convinced Kouki Uchiyama is voicing Nikaido. However... I, for some reason, keep hearing Kensho Ono in the second part as well. So maybe that's Hayashi?

Other guesses that I and other people have are; Chiaki Kobayashi, Horie Shun, Nobunaga Shimazaki and Soma Saito. Please tell me who you think they might be!

(Also, for those unaware, Chiaki Kobayashi and Nakamura Yuichi voiced Satomi and Narita in a pv they released in commemoration for the live action movie. They did not reprise their roles in the anime, unfortunately.)
