Asking to tag is valid, but doing so relies solely on the tagger A) Remember to do so. B) Actually caring to tag a dozen or more random people. C) Excludes all the other variations a post might take. D) Clogs the replies, potentially drowning out actual additions to the post.

If you want to (understandably) avoid ALL the chatter that can go along with subscribing to a very active post, reblogging and marking posts with a tag like "check on later" helps to circumvent the often flawed system of relying on tagging. This way you can go through all the notes at your leisure.
