Dove's a lot more aggressive and openly fighty than I am. Dove will kick a mofo in the balls and call them a bitch for insulting them, while I uh... I tend to shut down and internalize a lot. As for what they inherited from me... Well, click readmore if you want to join me in celebrating how far I've come as an artist, and get waaaaaay more information than you asked for!

So, if you want to get technical... Crow, on the left there, started as a character for a project based around a modern Bloodborne 'verse. The characters were very loosely based around us authors in our college years. The project fell through pretty quickly - but it had a really cool concept. I really liked the worldbuilding I'd done for the character, so I made enough changes to make her less Personal and threw her onto tumblr.

Crow quickly took on a life of her own, and I developed a robust backstory for her, rewriting it a few times to put more remove in there - visually symbolized by her going from a brunette college student dying her hair green for cosplay reasons, to a formerly high-society urban explorer with naturally white hair. She was squatting in a modern-day version of Yharnam that had been abandoned to the beasts for a century; and due to being an Eldritch Location, it had connections to other times... and even other realities.

It was in one of these cracks in reality that the events that lead to me making an Undertale-verse specific version of Crow, colloquially dubbed "Dove," happened. It took a few months, but eventually I was playing Dove more than I was playing Crow, and moved Dove fully to their own blog and spent the next several years playing them - at some point, the egg cracked more fully, and Dove shifted from she/her to they/them.

I also made a lot of AUs... including a dragonborn AU that was also a crossover with Bloodborne, because my hyperfixations will come back to bite my brain years later. Anyways~ A few months after my fascination with Undertale ended, a friend who'd been playing XIV for years dragged me and another friend in kicking and screaming, and so I made a version of Dove for XIV. The very first version was a raen malera, followed by a xaela malera... and eventually I went femra because if I'm gonna stare at an ass all day, I want it to be a pretty one.

Then I got to the Azim Steppe, had my brain explode, and sat down and finally wrote a proper, FFXIV-centered backstory. Which is a very long-winded way to say, Dove's got a number of my traits, as filtered through three fandoms and at least six thorough rewrites, and some backstory notes that've been exaggerated, rewritten, and been dumped out and put back together like a box of legos.

Lissten okay lissen, I unno if I should put it here ooorr on my lala blog but I'm gone put it here cause I want my oc stuff on that blog to find easily BUT honestly the zone I hate... is Garlemald. GARLEMALD upsets me on an EXTREME level. BECAUSE of the story. It's literally.. the story. The area itself is cool, it feels like a weird zombie apocolypse area and the fact that the music you hear is coming from a radio makes it pretty epic but I STILL fucking don't like it. The fact the story makes me angry and that FUCKING AETHER CURRENT QUEST WHERE YOU HAVE TO TRACK THAT CHILD DOWN! Never doing that again. Never until they fix it or something. NEVER getting the current from there fuck that shit.

My favorite tho is... The Steppe. I just... when I got to the Steppe I went O0O and then that place felt like home and I wanna drop my Xaela OCs there but I never even use them as much as my Lalas and *screms* But god I love it. It's just so cool? I don't know maann... I just love the Steppe. Everytime I get to go there it's just THE STEPPE MY BELOVED! XS I just can't ever decide what clan I want my Xaela from and then I just go back to my Lala anyway so my Xaela just... go to waste or they just stay as brain ocs T^T

ALSO I don't like the moon. The moon is also my least favorite cause it feels too big and that you can't really find your way around unless you actually learn flying, due to all the cracks and caverns and shit it has.

*shuffles new OC onto stage* hello this is Adrian Lucis Caelum, he is the youngest child of Noctis and Luna in a Happy Ending AU and is a Walked Twice WoL who ... sorta remembers being WoL but also sorta doesn’t.

There is a reason the Astrals very respectfully dub him The Dreamer when he turns 18 and is presented to the Crystal.

He takes more after his mom Luna magic-wise, which shocks a lot of people because they didn’t know males could inherit Oracle magic. Adrian just thinks that healing magic feels- familiar. Nice. He likes it.

He also likes his ability to warp around like a maniac tho. XD

Also when he grows up he complains about his height sometimes, which confuses people, because 5′11″ is a fairly respectable height for a human being and he’s just like-

ive been thinking about and sketching a ffxiv/tf2 au so i am going to ramble about it bc where else to but here

mercs and their races, clans and classes so far:

medic: au’ra, xaela, scholar

honestly i thought of this crossover bc someones xaela looked so much liked medic everytime i saw them so... ive thought about elezen for him which would be interesting and make sense? but dragon medic is too fun. scholar bc, obvs.. i think its the healing class that fits him most with my complete lack of knowledge of what scholar is. hes def not a white mage because the whole uaaah nature thing and it would be cute if his little fairy was archimedes. the scholar aesthetic fits him more than astrologian, too. also the arcanist/summoner side job i think fits him perfectly 

heavy: roegadyn,  hellsguard, warrior

this is the most self indulgent one for me as an mroe warrior player. i think the reclusive mountain clan hellsguard fits him, even tho it’s more of volcano mountains than snowy mountains like russia.  as well as ofc the more beefy roe body type. i think a huge axe named sacha is the best i will get bc i cant just make everyone machinist lmao. also the close ties w warrior to hellsguard makes it an obv choice. *thinks about beat mode* i would like to see it. 

sniper: au’ra, raen, bard

NOW THIS ONE EXCITES ME THE MOST!!!! i ADORE thinking about raen sniper growing up in the dawn thrown around chad xaela au’ra lmaooo. the raen clan in the lost underwater city was just too tempting it just tickles me how perfect it is...  i remember thinking of this crossover before i got to stormblood and when i finally learned more about the au’ra and met the raen clan i went insane it was simply meant to be. me equating xaela to australians is what made me want to switch medic to elezen but there are xaela from ishgard too so who cares. also.. thinking about sniper in the bard outfits absolutely kills me. i dont think saxophone or didgeridoo are instruments in game but ill allow it for him. 

spy: elezen, duskwight??, ninja

this one was a tough choice, esp bc his race effects scouts... obviously hes a ninja, as funny as that is but his race is still up to debate. i didnt really think about the clan bc elezen clan stuff is barely a thing in game, and i would think hes just from ishgard, which makes him basically a wildwood, but i think him being a duskwight is quite funny as well and gridania is also heavily european inspired so, why not. i really wanted him and scout to be cat boys but idk who else i would make elezen lmao. and i cannot imagine an elezen miqote mix. 

scout: elezen/hyur mix, ???, monk

scout was a hard one to pin down, by god i want him to be a cat boy but also him being mixed and having the cute short ears and growing up in the brume is just too irresistible. obvs mother is a hyuran woman. also.. his class... i know ninja is like the “scouting” class and monk is a somewhat beefy tanky dps class but,  i think its the best fit. you do get that speed boost ability (that i never use) so ill just run with it. no pun intended. 

pyro: lalafell, dunesfolk, black mage

its just the obvious choice. blackmage has the most literal fire power out of all the classes, and theyre also just.. generally cryptid ass lalafell lmao. i think its cute and funny. have you seen those lil dudes? c’mon. pyro. definitely just an ul’dahn cryptid. love to see it. 

engie: lalafell, plainsfolk, machinist

this one tickles me especially i just love it so much. even tho all the mercs love their guns i had to give engie mch for the turrets. and i made him lalafell bc hes short. sorry engie my short king, its just too funny. i think he would be home to either limsa or gridania, you dont find many lalafell in limsa but i think he can match their energy. prob grew up in gridanian country side and moved to limsa for the business. 

soldier: hyur, midlander, dragoon

soldierjust being the generic dude he is (this is no shade i love him) is the american hyur. i debated his class a lot but then i thought about his rocket jumps and was like.. okay hes a dragoon. the aesthetic of it doesnt fit him but the playstyle does i think. hes prob from limsa or ul’dah. convinced hes fought all the wars against the garleans but has never actually met one in reality. 

demo: hyur, highlander, paladin

demos the one im most undecided on. i just like the thought of demo and soldier being hyur bros but that means i have NO cat boys ??? i could make soldier, engie, or pyro one probably, but i’m just super attached to the races ive given them. engie and pyro being lalafells and soldier and demo being hyurs is just too good to me. i dont really think he would be an ala mhigan either really? i feel like hes just a gridanian. so seeker of the moon would probably fit better but i’m not sure. also paladin bc demoknight but i also think rdm or some casting dps for him would be fun bc of his cursed sorcery background. i think him being taught some blm and his experience w a sword through paladin would make him a good rdm one day. maybe hes a paladin that becomes a drk or something lmao. i think scout is the only one who fits the miqo’te body type too so thats really whats holding my back bc... i will not make demo a twink. 

something that deeply troubles me is the thought of bald catboys, which limits my options for assigned catboy at crossover. they have their hats but..... 

i also dont really have any ala mhigan or doman hcs for them the dawn throne is as close as i get but its just the reality with the tf2 having little asian rep.

I'd have to say my favorite color of all time is pink. Hot pink, soft pink, pastel pink, neon pink, magenta to salmon... I love pink.

I also love reds and oranges and purples. Blues also come in closely; yellow is a color I'm very much "meh" on. Green... Overall, I'd say I hate it in general terms fjfjshhsjdjfh

Seven; Favorite Books --

I haven't read it in a while, but I remember that I loved "The Cat Who..." series. It was just a fun time. I should read them again...

Warriors was another that I was head over heels for, a while back. Never finished the series, though -- I got to the end of the third arc, read a couple of the extra books, then fell out of reading them.

"The Secret Piano" is also a good book, but it's... Not so much a fiction book than a translated autobiography by Zhu Xiao-Mei. It was a bit of a difficult read (for me, at least), but it's definitely a good book to read if you're interested in what happened during the cultural revolution in China.

Oh god I don't remember. We're gonna count the last film that I chose to watch, since that's easier to remember. Think it was called "Olden Time"? It was an animated short film about an uhhhhh... think of Lumiere and Cogsworth from BatB? YEAH. Except with a TV and a windup cat doll. Old 50s-ish era TV set gets tossed out, meets a little windup cat doll. Things go from there.

It's a cute little bit of animation! Also sad at bits. I don't remember how it went, really, it's been around a year, at LEAST since I've seen it, but it was good. Do recommend.

Ten; Inspiration for Muse --

I've got so many, you'd have to ask for specifics, but a short list:

Eloise, Narua, Nim, Berriath, Tabitha, Carmen, and Fraeswys were based off of original/previous characters I've had in the past.

The rest are original to FFXIV-verse, and the starting point for them always has been "let's take a hook and build off that" (i.e, Yellow Dove: Maelstrom. Sechen: Xaela. Ryoko: Astrologan and Geisha.)

Eleven; Dream Job --

I don't remember if I've said it on my blog before, but my DREAM dream job would be as a paramedic.

My second dream job and the one I'm actually shooting for is to be a piano teacher. It's just... I love it so much, and the thought of passing on that knowledge and helping other people work to play it is just something that makes me happy. It won't be easy, but I'd think it rewarding.

I’ll use my FFXIV OCs bc I’m finicky abt sharing anything on my manuscript OCs in public

Vaste/U’ralhana Odh:

1. What is/are your OC’s nickname(s) and how did it come about?

Her name situation is a little messy but theres a reason behind each one both canon and non-canon! The game by default gives the WoL many titles across the game to reflect your progress to NPCs like eikon-slayer, Azure Dragoon, khagan etc. all tied to feats or positions earned in the MSQ. 

For non canon titles and nicknames I’ve given her Desert Dragon due to her origin of birth from a desert tribe and their guardian animal being Drakes (as well as the fact that she’s a Dragoon and DRGs are traditionally a class associated heavy with dragons), Nine Lives because of the Echo preventing her from true death which also fits with her being a cat race etc. For more personal nicknames one of her younger brothers calls her Rala after her Sun Seeker name being U’ralhana Odh, dearest is also the most common pet name Yugiri has for her, aside from having the privilege of calling her only by her first name for her Sun Seeker side

Her formal naming convention gives her three viable names,

U’ralhana Odh - name the Sun Seekers gave her when she was born to them, the U designates tribe affiliation, followed by her given name, the surname is her father’s first name indicating he sired her (official FFXIV Sun Seeker naming convention) together the name means Ralhana of the Drakes, daughter of Odh

Osha Tayuun - this is the name her mother gave her before she left to rejoin the Moon Keepers in The Black Shroud, she never learned it was hers until the day they finally met well into her adulthood as the WoL, because Moon Keepers are matriarchal unlike Sun Seekers, the last name is also her mother’s while the given name is a normal girls name (i also made it start with O and try to sound similar to her mother’s first name, Oghii)

Vaste Valescoere - she gave herself this name after once being taught a few ancient Garlean (irl Classical Roman Latin) words by a traveling scholar from what little outside contact the tribe saw, once she made the decision to leave to be an adventurer forever she was banished for forsaking tradition, thus she felt she died and needed a new name - this was the first name i gave her because when i first started playing FFXIV i didnt know the races had naming conventions so i just wanted something that sounded like a fantasy name ( i literally just looked two words up in my latin-english dictionary fddjfd)

2. What is the color of your OC’s eyes/hair/skin?

Blue hair with natural black highlights, green eyes, light skin but not pale- all generally Moon Keeper traits but when i was starting out i knew none of that and did what i wanted, her bizarre appearance once i decided she was from the U tribe influenced her being half Sun Seeker and Moon Keeper 

3. How tall is your OC?

5′2 but only because i thought the CC slider meant 5′6 (cuz it lists height in inches and i didnt bother to check ujhghugj shes sometimes embarrassed by her height especially standing next to much taller people, shes still taller than Yugiri though so she enjoys the slight height advantage

4. What is a noticeable physical attribute of your OC?

Her hair, then her eyes

5. What does your OC normally wear? What would your OC wear on a special night?

She’s usually in her armor with her current spear glamoured to appear weaker than it actually is because the simple style reminds her of what she used as a teen before leaving home:

im weak for the one arm/shoulder armored while the other isnt or not as much aesthetic

6. What is one word you would use to describe your OC’s appearances?

Every time she shows up there’s something dramatic (but not always over the top) happening

7. Does your OC have any markings, such as a birthmark or a scar?

She has the usual pinkish red stripes on her cheeks all Sun Seeker women are born with, in addition to a scar across her nose bridge she got during her huntress rite of passage when a sundrake struck her face (this rite is also how she got the black marks under her eyes afterwards, originally i just liked how they looked and made a backstory for them because the game lists them as tribal tattoos in CC)

The scar i gave her in CC as a ref to Guts from Berserk cuz his is similar (she obtained hers very young like he did as well):

8. How does your OC talk/what does your OC’s voice sound like?

i chose the CC voice 2 option for female miqo’te (you can kinda hear what it sounds like here and here @2:10 since i cant find a video with just vc2 range) and im happy with it (to me it kinda sounds like Rie Tanaka? as far as i know the CC voice VAs have never been revealed so i cant say for certain, i know shes done voicing for FFXIV as Kan E Senna and Sadu and plays it as a huge fan tho) as far as how she talks all Miqo’te are said to have their own racial language unique to them that no other race can accurately pronounce or understand due to all the hissing, purring, and spitting of certain sounds (bc theyre cat ppl lol) so she’ll roll/purr her Rs, hiss her Hs etc.

On top of this system i imagine the U have their own dialect accent too which i hc sounds closer to Xhosa and Zulu mixed if a cat tried to speak it,so it gets complex! Her native accent however becomes slightly toned down the longer she spends away from the U as the WoL, but its still present and obvious enough

9. What does your OC’s bedroom look like?  His/her living area?

the only description valid for this is an organized mess lmao

10. What does your OC keep in a special drawer?

anything small enough to fit given to her by people from her past or those she cares about that linger on her mind, shes somewhat sentimental sometimes

Gan Arulaq

1. Lizard boi has no nicknames that stick outside of being called Bataar playfully by his parents esp his mother bc he liked playing pretend as a heroic figure when he was little (i was aware when i made him in CC that Xaela use Mongolian names and are based a lot on Mongol culture of the 14th century so he follows this convention)

His first name is Mongolian for Steel, his last name denotes his tribe following the game’s convention, simple

2. he is a tan/reddish brown color for skin with black hair and natural red highlights in a short swept back style (his eyes are also green bc i wanted to see what Vaste’s eye color would look like on a Xaela model, tdlr they glow!)

3. Gan is 7′1! the tallest of my characters period, he sees everything from up there and it creates some hilarious and awkward situations (poor guy and most doors, rip)

4. his eyes and his big curved horns

5. he loves wearing primarily clothes that expose a lot of his chest and skin in general because thats most natural to what he wore on the steppe valley back home (as well as being a little vain about his physical appearance and liking the feel of freedom in less clothes) however he can and will wear regular clothes, though in this case his fashion sense is terrible

6. when he appears you can associate him with change (succession is another word that comes to mind given his role to Vaste)

7. with the exception of minor scars from martial training and small accidents he’s the picture of normal for a Xaela

8. i actually cant remember what CC voice i gave him by number, but he does have a somewhat deep, rough voice fitting for a boisterous young man while also being capable of sentimentality and some wisdom, he has a handsome voice, he speaks bluntly but full of feeling and often truth

9. his room would be very organized and everything is neatly assigned to its place as well as being primarily spartan in layout/decoration, he’s used to practicality and function from his childhood on the steppe, lots of trinkets from nature, weapons and trophies of victory etc.

Personality - Xarnai is a sweet girl, a soft speaker, and can be a little timid. She has a good heart, and her intentions are always in the right place. She’s not very confident in herself and tends to stammer or talk kind of quietly, like she’s afraid of saying something wrong and in case she does she can say “o-oh! It was nothing!”. She’s pretty patient with people, or tolerant, or maybe she just wants to avoid all conflict as possible and tries her best to just handle others. On the flip side, she’s not good at standing up for herself, when she tries she gets nervous or worried. She might also be a bit of a cry baby, reverting to tears as a sort of defense mechanism if her nervous laughter doesn’t do it for her. She might be too optimistic for her own good, wanting to see the best in people but then later realizing maybe they took advantage of her or are using her. Interests - Singing, music, anything dealing with song and dance; she loves cooking home meals and prefers anything meat; she loves caring people, anyone who’s helpful or generally nice. Flowers are also nice, pink flowers. Roses. Flowers. She’s never trained in combat, and actually even during her tribal years preferred not to do anything intense.

Profession - Singer, basically a side street performer. Also can be a caretaker. Hobbies/Other - Singing, dancing, she likes to garden or help around and do little things for people. Cooking too. Usually how she gets to stay with people is she offers to cook, clean, or garden. Residence - She’s usually around Limsa Lominsa, tends to stay at inns or somehow comes across people to take her in. She does travel from the cities though.

History - Born into the Qalli tribe, Xarnai lived the majority of her life in the Azim Steppe. Her father was quite harsh on her and her mother, and found a dislike to him pretty quickly. But, she respected him, and especially her mother. The two of them had a strong mother/daughter bond. Her mother having taught her everything from song to dance to survival.

Outside of her family, Xarnai liked to believe she had many friends in the Qalli tribe. Despite being super shy and rarely talking to people, she was generally pleasant to be around. Thus, she was accepted by pretty much anyone around her. 

As she grew older, her father actually arranged a marriage bond for her to be apart of. She was unaware of this situation, and had no say in the matter, but she reluctantly accepted her fate--knowing that, well, there would be nothing she could do. Batsaikhan, someone she would later find herself become close to, became her husband. He, too, had been put through a similar situation, leading the two to sort of bond over their now intertwined fate. Even without that, they seemed to get along fine. He was a strong singer, and the two of them enjoyed many times in duet and dancing with or to one another’s songs. Xarnai never wanted conflict, which led her to just agree with everything of her new husband--leading him to be a little annoyed she wouldn’t stick up for herself or say no. Most, if not all, of their arguments were him wanting her to grow as a person, not letting fear of conflict and fear in general make her subject to timidness and being used. 

Xarnai then told him that she felt if she could get away from her father, maybe she could grow. That planted the seed inside Batsaikhan to come up with the idea that the two of them leave for fresh lands, start over in another place, and hope to make a living together doing what they could do best with the things they loved to do. 

Moons later, the plan was to be set in action. At least, was going to. Without any sort of warning, Batsaikhan became extremely sick--poisoned, to be exact. It made no sense, really, especially to her. The wind quickly caught word about Xarnai’s to be late-husband, and his father became extremely upset, knowing quite well he had been poisoned by someone. Probably Xarnai. Most people didn’t believe it could possibly be the young, now soon to be widow. She had always been so kind, caring, and always put others before her. The two of them even got along great and was known to be a generally happy bond. But with her now passing husband’s father, and even her own, they seemed to be stacking evidence that came out of no where to make a convincing case that it was, in fact, Xarnai. 

Heartbroken, alone, and betrayed by her own family, the one person should could turn to last-- her mother--helped her flee to new lands like planned. When she finally reached the ship, the storm above her did not dare hold it’s tongue as they traveled to unknown lands. The ship rocked, people groaned and the ship felt like it was about to break under the sea and storms pressure at any moment. It was a horribly traumatizing journey for the, now, young widow. However, she stayed as strong as she could, knowing there would be no other option for her at this point. There would be no going back.

Eventually, she reached Limsa Lominsa, calling it her new home and ultimately doing what she was originally supposed to do with her husband Batsaikhan: start fresh doing what they loved to do. She now acts as a songstress, a care taker for houses, and a dancer.

the oronir + their leader the most radiant brother magnai are such a weird (and fascinating) paradox to me

like--first things first, the oronir belief system/social developments is basically dabbling in Ur-Patriarchy--sun/sky-father creator-god whose will is interpreted/enacted by his agent on earth, posits a strict gender/sex binary with regarding mean and women being ‘made’ for each other, and judging by their attitude to the dawn throne territory seem to be moving from a strictly-nomadic to a more permanent-settlement society; this is like very weirdly close to actual Ur-Patriarchy, as in the city of ur (their sky-father-creator-god was more closely identified with the moon tho as i recall; the sun was his, er, son). and we all know how quickly and how easily that shit can turn terrifying and messed-up. 

...and yet, the primary thing keeping lizard khal drogo the most radiant brother magnai from being a completely gross and terrifying avatar of this shit is that he’s apparently a 10000% true believer in it. he is a very powerful and dangerous warlord with very, very few people around him willing to or capable of holding him accountable for his actions--he has and has exercised, by his own casual admission, the power to compel every xaela woman to be evaluated as potential wife. ...and yet his consistent reaction to rejection is immediate acceptance and dropping the issue. he hasn’t made any big deal out of how lyse presumably rejected him offscreen while the warrior of light and gosetsu were making friends with the dotharl, when cirina turns him down he leaves it at that and doesn’t pursue her further, and even though he hates sadu, when his underling baatu suggests that she deserved to be punished for spurning him, magnai’s immediate response is, roughly, “you say that again and i kill you where you stand.” like. thusfar, he apparently genuinely believes in true love and despite being completely okay with using both his own physical strength and institutional power violently to get what he wants in other scenarios, he’s apparently totally unwilling to do so in this scenario. in a way it comes off as a weird, unsettling kind of innocence, like he doesn’t understand the implications of the intersection of his power and his doctrine, or that such could be used to enact great evil as opposed to what he feels is his divine mission to guide and protect steppe xaela.

and that’s my conclusion at this point--it’s weird. don’t mean to say that oronir/magnai are Good, Actually, nor that they are Bad, Actually, but that right now they’re ????Deeply Weird? Actually????, and i await further developments in their story before further opinionating.

A1 :  Wes Anderson directed mayhem similar in tone to The Grand Budapest Hotel covering his life in short so far (I would’ve said Satoshi Kon too but he unfortunately passed years ago)

A2 : Yoko Kanno, which speaks for itself because how do you even begin pinpointing Kanno’s work to one thing

A3 : Haven’t rly yet but I’d like to, love the idea of that (and the one time I did “write” for him tumblr ate it)

A4 : I was playing with CC a year ago and when he came out I loved him immediately
