that post about cheering when a character getting better includes them getting weirder & less polite. slaps my hand on it. thinks about kurt. thinking about him like. conditioning himself to be as close to a fucking saint as possible just so people freaked out by him don't. y'know. freak out in the wrong direction & try to kill him. or even just generally Be freaked out & avoid him as much as possible. because if he's nice & docile & open & polite then maybe they'll forgive him the grave "indecency" of being born looking like a demon. & on the other side if he Does lash out he risks worsening the perception of mutants With that similar appearance vibe. but like!!!! as the series has gone on kurt's been increasingly more willing to let loose some restraint on humans!! truly enjoy seeing the progression of him just. getting bolder in the non-performative sense : using his image inducer less‚ talking back to people‚ lashing out‚ being selfish. like he's still fundamentally the same because at his core he's the embodiment of the post about "my power fantasy is being able to help everyone", but he becomes less of a doormat. that panel during judgment day where he's like "sometimes good people Have to get angry. sometimes good people forget that.". mwuah.
