10 old albums to listen to this quarantine :)
'old’ as in get ready for that late 2000s - early 2010s goodness
1. Speak Now - Taylor Swift (2010)
Tumblr media
I’m not saying this is Taylor at her artistic peak - it definitely is not and this is coming from someone who isn’t really a fan, but god does this album make me happy. This is quintessential Taylor Swift music - melodramatic love songs, angry break up songs, calling out an ex - the works. you don’t have to think too much to enjoy an album like this- really, it’s kinda great right about now.
2. Doo-Wops & Hooligans - Bruno Mars (2010)
Tumblr media
Shut the fuck up this album is so fucking good. The Lazy Song? Iconic. Count On Me? The anthem of 21st century friendships. Marry You? The best love song of the decade. Grenade? Fucking superb- I’m getting ahead of myself but Bruno is, always will be, and always has been, absolutely, completely iconic. This was one of the pinnacle of early 2010s pop I said what I fucking said.
3. 19 - Adele (2008)
Tumblr media
Adele is iconic. She always has always been iconic. She always will be iconic - I don’t make the rules. Make You Feel my love has had me crying since fucking 2008 and I haven’t stopped yet. Chasing Pavements? 10/10 one of her best songs to date. Hometown Glory? Also 10/10 fukcing incredible. Her voice is timeless, so is this album, I will never get bored of this one.
4. The Fame Monster - Lady Gaga (2009)
Tumblr media
Earlier I said Bruno Mars was one of the pinnacles of early 2010′s pop - well this is it, the absolute pinnacle, gold standard, S Tier. The number of tracks on this album that shook pop culture is insane - Bad Romance? Telephone? Paparazzi? Poker Face? I could go on. Also this is one of 2 gaga albums on here which is testament to just how much she’s defined the 21st century so far.
5. Overexposed - Maroon 5 (2012)
Tumblr media
Ok so like a sizeable chunk of my childhood was singing the uncensored version of payphone and making my classmates gasp in horror. I miss that because now people are so used to me cursing that nothing I say surprises anyone anymore but regardless. Payphone, One More Night, Love Somebody and Moves Like Jagger are absolute classics and you cannot tell me otherwise.
6. Let Go - Avril Lavigne (2002)
Tumblr media
I’m not just going to sit here and pretend that Sk8er Boi isn’t still, to this day, very very high on my favorite songs of all time list. If you were an “edgy” kid in the 2000′s, avril lavigne probably made you want to dye your hair pink and go skinny dipping - tbh, she still fucking does. Let Go was Avril’s best era i don’t take any opposing views, this album is just kind of an absolute banger???
7. American Idiot - Green Day (2004)
Tumblr media
Green Day’s decline to Father Of All Whatever Whatever is honestly and truly the saddest thing to have ever happened to me. American Idiot - including the masterpiece that is the broadway version - stands to date as one my favorite albums of all time. I know every track on this album inside out - and to at least some degree, this album has probably made me the anarchist I am today.
8. The Truth About Love - P!nk (2012)
Tumblr media
I’ve overused the word iconic but P!nk gave my first ever sexuality crisis, also the first time I got drunk was while (Blow Me) One Last Kiss was playing in the background, also the first song I ever sung at a competition was Just Give Me a Reason (it was a group thing, didn’t go too well, we came 5th? 6th? I dunno). Either way, this is a god tier album i love p!nk so much holy shit.
9. Born This Way - Lady Gaga (2011)
Tumblr media
Ah yes, the promised second Lady Gaga Record. Born This Way has just as many iconic, culture resetting, songs as The Fame Monster - Marry The Night, Judas, The Edge Of Glory, Born this Way? Literally no one was doing it like Gaga in the late 2000s - early 2010s. Also, this is me praying that we get some of that back in Chromatica - I loved Joanne, but this is the truly GAGA stuff.
10. I AM...SASHA FIERCE - Beyoncé (2008)
Tumblr media
And to finish off, Queen Bey herself. So I said no one was doing it in the late 2000s and early 2010s like Lady Gaga - well I lied, because well, Beyoncé. Single Ladies? Halo? If I Were a Boy? Ego? Diva? Ave Maria? Lemonade is still aggressively better than this one, but everything on this record is still a banger and fucking hits. Honestly just crank this shit up it’s what we deserve right now.
