“you get me” (famous!y/n x harry)
Tumblr media
Famous!y/n x Harry Styles
First Harry fic so please be kind, but feedback is SUPER appreciated
Initially inspired by the picture of Harry leaving the Gucci store with 15 bags but barely has anything to do with that lol
Definitely thought of Ellen for the interview idk why tho - also I struggle with writing Harry’s dialogue because I really want to get it right, but hopefully the more practice I get, the better/more natural it will sound. ALSO i have like no music or music industry background lol. Somewhat proofread, but its 2:30 am so it could be shit
Fluff!
Warnings: maybe some angst over being famous per say, past loneliness
Word Count: 3.7k literally howwww, i’m going to do a pt. 2 though because it was kind of a long set up and feelingsssss
---
Interviewer: Please, welcome our next guest, a woman who’s sure to have her name written up beside the music greats someday, Ms. Y/N L/N!
You can’t contain the grin that spreads to your face as you carry yourself out onto the stage and see the audience cheering for you. It was your third big interview since your first album had been released and you’d seen your fame skyrocket over night. This being the third one this week meant you’d gotten comfortable getting asked questions, but you also weren’t bored of it yet. It was exhilarating being the center of attention, especially for something that had been your life’s work up until this point. You always had to fight for whatever you got and the recognition you were starting to have was reassurance that you hadn’t been a fool to risk a safe and certain life for your dreams.
The interview begins as the rest had, a few pleasantries, how you were feeling, and then the introduction of the album. The host asked you what your inspiration was for some of the songs and the album name and cover. You loved to talk about the music, it was the whole reason you were there. The meaning, the sound, the name, it all meant so much to you and you talked about how music can be interpreted differently by everyone and even the shifts in someone’s mood can change a song’s meaning, but what it meant to you at the time of writing was always something specific. You practiced those answers in the mirror before the interviews because they were important to you and you didn’t want your words on your art to ever be misconstrued. The host then complimented your style and you were at the point where you thought your interview should be wrapping up when they asked you one more question, and it threw you for a loop.
Interviewer: So Y/N, we’ve been hearing some rumblings around, about you and another famous musician, Mr. Harry Styles. Anything going on there?
Your face heated up, you hadn’t been expecting a personal question about possible relationships. Nothing like this had been asked of you at your previous interviews. It’s about the music, the art, and who you were, it’s always about that and nothing more. To be honest, you were a bit annoyed the host had chosen to stray from those topics. You didn’t care for the celebrity side of being a famous musician, the lack of privacy, the prying eyes of media and the general public. They saw enough of you through your art, you bore your soul through music why did they want to peak into your heart as well?
Y/N: I don’t know if I’d rather be with Harry Styles or actually be Harry Styles. Like, he’s literally such an icon, I want to be able to walk out of a Gucci store after spending hours there with 15 bags full of my purchases and helpers to carry it all out c’mon… He’s also an amazing songwriter, musician, and performer, of course. Didn’t mean to sound superficial, but I’d also love to own even half of his closet.
You hadn’t really answered the question, but the audience laughed and the host obviously got the hint that you weren’t interested in fanning any flames of romance with Harry Styles or anyone else. For one, you didn’t even know the man, but you had always been a loving fan of his. You cited him as one of your role models when you were first starting to try and break into the music world. Second, if you did know him, that wouldn’t be an appropriate topic for your album press junket going on, even if it meant more publicity because of Harry’s big celebrity status. The host decided to qualify their original question with a final sentiment.
Interviewer: I totally feel the same way! I only ask because the outpouring of support you’ve received seems to be from similar groups who also follow Harry. Many have been comparing your sound to his solo career work.
Y/N: Ah...well that’s very kind of people to say. He’s definitely a big inspiration, his creativity and drive is incredible. I’d love to be as successful as him someday.
The interview ended. You and the host shook hands and you waved and sent kisses to the crowd before retreating backstage. You were exhausted, but happy. You hoped to avoid anymore stressful interview questions that didn’t truly revolve around music. Of course, life is never that simple.

One month later
You had done countless more interviews and talk shows as promo for your album and the buzz around it had continued to grow. Your fame continued to rise as well and that one question you had dodged at your third interview had come back around to bite you, naturally. Daily Mail’s dumb headline read: “Y/N can’t decide! Date Harry Styles or Steal His Closet?” The Sun was also running with your response and miscontruing it completely, something about how you were madly in love with Harry but jealous of his designer partnerships, you couldn’t even stomach reading the garbage. This was your worst nightmare. Not only was it taking away the focus from your album, but you were also sure this dumb gossip had reached the very set of ears that the gossip was allegedly also about.
You had signed with Columbia Records for your first album, the same record label as Harry Styles, so managers had been in contact with one another about the whole fiasco trying to get the actual truth - which was that the two of you didn’t even know each other and there were no problems whatsoever. Your manager also brought along the good news that Harry had actually listened to your album and loved it, “He said ‘Congratulations’ by the way, loved the sound. Said he’d heard you were very music focused and be open to do some mentoring on songwriting and vocal specifics, if you wanted. It’d have to be in private though, obviously.” She had added the last bit, but you understood why. To have the opportunity to discuss your music with one of your longtime role models, heroes even, was beyond anything you could have imagined coming from your album’s success. And it made the drama all the more palatable because now you at least got to talk to Harry like the media was so adamantly saying you were doing already.
You nodded quickly and agreed, while trying to keep your teenage fangirl excitement hidden below your mature now-famous musician facade. Like you said, Harry was your hero, he’d been your hero since you were in middle school and had Up All Night downloaded on your iPod touch, blasting it as loud as possible, sound hitting your poster-filled walls. You weren’t the same girl as you were then, obviously, you had grown up to be a strong, independent, and confident woman. But, you still smiled at the thought of your younger self with your baby face squealing in the nosebleeds at the Take Me Home Tour (where you swore Harry had looked straight at you) and her seeing you now, dressed in a sleek outfit setting up an appointment to meet with Harry to discuss your first album, a success.
-
The next Thursday evening
You took a deep breath, in through your nose and out through your pursed lips. You were anxious and excited at the exact same time. Your meeting with Harry was tonight, right now actually, and you hadn’t been able to think about much else since your manager had confirmed the meeting last week. She got you the details a couple of days ago, the location: his house in Malibu, the time: 5:45 P.M. You had brought along a copy of your album on vinyl because you thought it sounded best this way, second only to performing it live.
Choosing your outfit for tonight was probably the toughest decision you’d ever made, harder than choosing between an education and following your dreams, harder than choosing your favorite Beatles song. You didn’t want to worry so much, this wasn’t a date you kept reminding yourself, but everything you tried on earlier kept having something wrong with it, too dressy, too boring, too ‘not yourself’. You had settled for these blue high-waisted pants that you’d worn to your first ever podcast interview, a thin black long sleeve, and a brown leather coat that fell below your hips with vans sneakers, casual, simple, yet still true to you and your vibe.
You raised your free arm and formed a fist, hesitant to knock, as if you’d damage Harry’s seemingly perfect Malibu beachfront home by knocking too hard on the wooden front door. You waited a few moments and could here some shuffling behind the door, some incoherent words were seemingly said, but the walls muffled them before they could reach for ears. Soon enough, Harry Styles in the flesh was before you. He beamed down at you, huffing, slightly out of breath as if he had been clear across the house when you knocked. His strong figure towered above your far smaller stature. He was hanging onto the door since he had opened it only slightly. “Hello, Y/N?” he greeted and questioned simultaneously. “Hi,” you responded and extended the same hand that had just rapped against his now open door. He gripped it, ushering you into his home, “Come in, come in, it’s nice to meet you, don’t want you to catch a cold now do we?” He took note of your strong handshake and ring clad fingers.
He walked you into an area between the kitchen and a sitting area. The kitchen was open aside from a bar high top between the two rooms. You sat down at his prompting and made yourself comfortable. “I brought my record on vinyl, sounds best in my opinion, otherwise I’d recommend seeing it live,” you laughed as you handed the vinyl to him and took off your coat. “Technically, y’know, I could hear it live right now, if you were willin’ f’course,” Harry had responded over his shoulder as he placed the vinyl by his idle record player, “Anything to drink?” “Just water for me, please.” His accent was even stronger in person, especially since he had moved back to London and seldomly stayed in California, except for business and quick trips. As far as you knew, he had already been here on business for the week and was able to pencil you in.
You two settled in, with your waters, seated at the bar top beside each other, but swivelling the chairs to face one another more. Again, you were overwhelmed with the reality of the situation, sitting beside Harry Styles as professionals, peers even. He had heard your work and liked it enough to want to discuss it with you. It was a day you never thought would come to pass. He started off not by asking about the music right away, but about how you were doing with the whirlwind that stardom is. “How are you, Y/N? It’s been somewhat of a out of the frying pan into the fire kind of moment for you?” He stared at you intently, caring to hear your answer.
You couldn’t help but chuckle again and contain your smile, “Thank you for asking, Harry. Yeah, its been definitely stressful, but it’s everything I’ve ever wanted and more so the good is still outweighing any bad. Definitely, fucking exhausted though, dunno how many more interviews I can do before my jaw goes completely rigid from talking so much.” It’s Harry’s turn to laugh, his eyes shone with intrigue at what you said and how you said it. You were gorgeous, but it was how your hands helped you through what you were trying to say and the small laughs you tried to keep in while you amused yourself with your words that really made him want to hear you talk all night long.
He agreed about how the promo junket for an album can get tedious and tiresome, but also the absolute fulfillment you get from people loving the music you’ve made. The two of you chatted about surface level personal matters for a little more, but quickly moved to the music. “I took a listen a couple weeks after the album was released. I especially loved the last track. It reminded me so much of a song I never released, actually…” he trailed off.
Your final track had been a ballad, an homage to George Harrison with your use of guitar and sitar, but the lyrics were a story based off of a poem you had written one night in high school. It surrounded a girl never feeling quite good enough for the person she wanted to be with and how it happened everytime, everytime she was ready to giver herself to someone, they were always closed off. Of course it held some truth to your own life and feelings, but you wrote this girl as someone with a seemingly perfect life - when yours was obviously far from any semblance of perfection.
You wondered what Harry’s song would have sounded like, had it been about a seemingly perfect girl or a guy with a seemingly perfect life, always giving himself to the wrong person and getting destroyed by that very fact because he was impatient as the girl in your song had been. “Can I ask, how so? How’d it remind you of your own song, the words or the music?” “Oh, the story, I felt like that for a time in my life and I like to be vulnerable in my songs because it helps me process, but listening to it back has always been too painful. Could never release that or perform it, it’d wreck me.” You nodded, you completely got where he was coming from. You noticed his downcast eyes and his somber tone, you knew not to push it any further.
It was quiet and you decided it’d be okay to take his hand resting between the two of you. “Harry, I understand,” your sincerity spilled into the words, filling the quiet house, “It’s not easy. Feeling that way. Thinking you’re the only goddamn one and why the fuck does it always happen to you? I used to ask my ceiling ‘why me?’ every night of high school” you smiled then. “But you know how it is,” you rubbed your thumb over his large warm hand and he lifted his head, “it gets so much better - c’mon look at us now! It can get hard, too, all this, I’m sure. But our lives? They’re amazing!” He beamed as he had when he had first seen you at his door and when you’d first really spoke. He moved his hand from under your palm to weave your fingers with his, both of your hands with covered in rings and they clinked to fit together, finally resting perfectly fitted. He shook your two hands up and down, “God, you’re so right! That damn song, m’sorry always puts me in a mood,” he shakes his head, “not yours though, f’course, s’lovely, better than my sodding song” he finishes quickly.
After that, the mood lightened right back up. It filled you with such appreciation for Harry that he would trust you so much with such a personal detail since you two had just met. But maybe, he had trusted you because he had felt that same spark between you. It wasn’t necessarily a romantic spark, but it was obvious the two of you were kindred spirits. Besides your album, the two of you talked about everything. You loved the same bands, movies and books, you both loved to cook and had similar fashion taste, you even had the same person type - something you found out late into the night.
At the end of the Side B of your album, Harry switched to a Bill Evans record that had ‘Peace Piece’ on it. You loved that song. So did he. “So...planning to raid my closet?” Harry raised his brows from the record player and walked back to you. You almost sputtered the water in your mouth. Luckily, you got it down. “Pardon?” “All that bad press the two of us have been getting...I watched the interview that kind of ignited the tabloids. You’re obviously not used to those overstepping personal questions.” You nodded. “It’s fine, even if you’d completely shut it down, the tabloids probably would have picked it up still, they snap up anything and everything, true or not.” You softened at his reassurance. You hadn’t expected Harry to bring the interview up, but you were sure he wasn’t happy about it, he was so private, especially about his love life. “Thanks, I’m sorry I tried to laugh it off, kind of made it worse, didn’t I?” “No! Thought it was hilarious and I totally appreciated the sentiment. Little ol’me, an icon? And an amazing artist? All I gotta do is watch that clip and I’ve fed my narcissistic side for the week!” You giggled and replied slyly, “So does that mean I can raid your closet? As compensation, of course.” Harry threw his head back in an all consuming laughter, when he’d composed himself he looked in your eyes again and said, “You just...God, you get me.”
Harry had continued to put records on throughout the night, diligently flipping sides and asking for requests, he of course had an extensive collection. The two of you had moved onto his plush couch that looked out his french doors to the beautiful ocean view. Finally, your exhaustion caught up to you, mid-Harry describing his latest travel fiasco, you glanced up at the clock. You gasped. Harry stopped. “When did it get to be half 12?” you questioned almost incredulously, “I’ve gotta get home, Harry, but this has been truly amazing, more than I could have asked for, so thank you.” Your speech began to rush as you started to get up and gather your things, that had slowly scattered as you’d gotten more comfortable, jacket by the table, shoes around the back of the couch, your phone forgotten somewhere in the couch. You couldn’t believe you’d spent almost seven hours just talking with Harry Styles.
Harry quickly stood up from his relaxed positioned on the couch and asked if you were alright to drive this late. You scoffed, “Oh please, I’ve driven around at 3 am before, I just have to turn up the music and I can cruise.” He smiled, “This was great, Y/N, I know we didn’t really go super in depth into your writing process, but I’d love to write with you sometime or just hang out again f’course. Your seriously talented and obviously a wonderful person.” He didn’t include that he felt like he’d never met anyone like you, never met someone so perfectly matched to himself, in passions but also in work ethic and demeanor - compassionate yet confident. He felt like you got him perfectly and he got you. You had stopped your scramble to gather yourself and now you were both smiling at one another.
This had really been an unforgettable night, you couldn’t believe how well you two had meshed, like childhood friends reconnecting after years apart. “Can I give yeh a hug before you go?” Harry’s voice had grown raspier as the night had progressed. He had grown rather tired an hour ago, but had pushed through because they had been having so much fun and you hadn’t noticed his physical fading or the time, obviously. You stepped toward him and his large tattooed arms enveloped you into his body. His body truly dwarfed yours now as he held you to his chest. You both were warm and soft. He tucked his head on top of yours that rested on his chest. Your arms were loosely resting where his back met his waist because you would have had to strain to get them to encircle him. His arms rested around your small frame. “Love your jacket,” he mumbled into your hair. His rough voice was quiet, but the house was silent otherwise, Tusk Side C had finished around when you had noticed the time. The embrace lasted long, but it felt so amazing you had a hard time pulling yourself away, but you had to get back home.
“G’night Harry” you said softly at the threshold of his home. He had insisted on walking you to the front door at least, since you had declined his offer to walk you out to your car on the street. “G’night. Safe travels.”
You got in your car and headed to your apartment in the city. You didn’t bother digging for your phone so you turned on the radio and drove home singing whatever came on, including your own song at one point. The whole time you drove with a grin. Harry was the nicest person you’d ever met and you were confident that the two of you were friends now. As you pulled into your parking garage it dawned on you why you hadn’t connected your phone immediately when you got in your car. “Stupid, stupid, stupid,” you put the car in park and rested your palms in the depressions of your eyesockets, over your closed eyelids, and rubbed hard. “Fuck!” It was far too late to drive back out to Malibu for your phone and you obviously couldn’t text Harry that you’d left your phone at his place, despite the two of you exchanging numbers during the night for future hang outs, so they didn’t have to be arranged through your managers, like playdates. Even if he found your phone between the cushions, he couldn’t drop it at your place in the morning because he didn’t know your address. This was a whole mess, you thought. You’d have to drive over in the morning and hope he was still there or email your manager from your computer. The former meant you got to see Harry sooner and likely your phone, too.

The wedding was perfect and nothing like Rory had imagined for her mother. The first wedding that she had planned was supposed to take place in late August, the second on June 3rd, but sadly both weddings got called off. Lorelai's mother had said that she had always imagined a Russian winter themed wedding for Lorelai which Lorelai said was really out of her character, but Emily and Rory couldn't disagree more. Lorelai was infamous for her love of snow. When Lorelai did finally tie a knot with Rory's father it was in Paris and none of their family members were there. The marriage didn't last very long.
The date of this wedding- the one where Lorelai finally ties a knot with the love of her life and Rory's stepfather Luke- was November 5th. Rory had never imagined Lorelai getting married in fall. Granted, this wasn't their official wedding with their extended families and the entire town there to witness it. This was a small, intimate, impromtu wedding, which made it even more perfect. Lorelai wasn't wearing her wedding dress, she chose a dark blue lace dress instead. And Rory was still in her PJs since they literally dragged her out of bed late at night saying: "We're getting married now." Michel was there by Rory's side as Lorelai's bridesmaid, well-groomed and wearing a suit as always and Luke's best men were Rory's best friend Lane and Luke's nephew Jess.
Of course they had woken up Jess. Jess had to be at Luke's wedding. Luke was pretty much his only family while he was growing up. He took him under his roof and gave him the guidance and structure he didn't know he needed. They had their ups and downs while Jess was still a brooding angsty teenager, but now that he had grown up, they were best friends, just like Lorelai and Rory. It came as no surprise that Luke had called Jess up in a middle of the night, saying he's getting married and wants him there and Jess had put on a tux he had saved for his actual wedding the next day and went to the gazebo.
"You may kissed the bride," the reverrend said and the four of them cheered. Jess and Rory's eyes suddenly met. He still had that James Dean spark in them, the spark that had drawn her to him when they were young. Jess's lips curled into a smile. He was just as charming as fifteen years ago. Rory looked away, hoping that the dim lighting would mask her blush. Luckily, nobody was paying attention to her. This was her mother's big day. All eyes were in her.
It was a beautiful night. Even Michel looked happy, which was very uncharacteristic of him. Reflecting Light, by Sam Philips was the song Luke and Lorelai chose for their first dance. It was an unusual pick but it had significance for them. They both remember that this was the song that was playing when they first danced together at another wedding.
Everyone was having fun for the rest of the night. Lane was a DJ, Michel was making everyone laugh with his weird dance moves and Lorelai and Luke were dancing like there's no tomorrow. Despite all this, Rory couldn't help but feel kind of wistful. Of course she was happy for her mom and Luke, but seeing them together also made her feel alone. She looked around and realized everyone there had someone. Her mom had Luke. Lane had Zach. Michel also had a husband. Who did she have?
"Hi."
She turned around. It was Jess.
"Hey."
"Shall we dance?"
Rory was surprised by this question. She didn't know Jess could dance. They had never danced together.
"Come on, Rory. I want to make up for the prom."
He offered her his hand and this time, she took it.
The song that was playing was Girl from Mars by Ash, except it was some kind of slow version that was good for slow dancing. Jess put his hand around her waist and lead her to the dance floor. Rory put her left hand on his sturdy and muscular arm. They danced. Kind of awkwardly at first, but it got better as the song went on.
"I never imagined going to prom in my PJs," Rory joked.
"Life is full of surprises. I never imagined your mom and Luke being at our prom, but here we are."
"I kind of did. It wouldn't have surprised me if they had decided that we needed a chapperone."
They both laughed and blushed at the same time. Jess knew exactly what she was talking about. They really couldn't be left alone for more than ten minutes when they were young.
"So, on scale Carrie to My Fat Greek Wedding 2, how do you rate this prom?" asked Jess.
"Mean Girls," said Rory with a shy smile.
"That wasn't a prom, that was a Spring fling dance," argued Jess.
"Wow, someone seems to know a lot about chick flicks," teased Rory.
"What do you think I was doing when Luke called me here? Watching Almost Famous, what else."
"Again?"
"Well, I can't help it, I'm addicted!"
"I thought you had grown out of that by now."
"Well, old habits die hard."
The song ended. Another song, something by Yoko Ono, which Jess definitely wasn't a fan of, played.
"Hey, wanna get out of here?"
"What? Why would I want to get out of here? This is my mom's big day."
That brought a painful memory back. Jess suddenly remembered his mother's big day (there were several, actually, but this was the last one and therefore the biggest one) and how he had snuck away from her wedding to go see Rory at Yale and ask her to run away with him. It wasn't exactly his proudest moment.
He supressed the painful memory and shrugged with a devil-may-care smile.
"It's Yoko Ono. I mean, come on, who wants to listen to Yoko Ono?"
"Lane does and if she does, then I want too. She's my music guru."
"You do know she broke the Beatles up right?"
"Beatles are overrated and they would've broken up anyway at some point."
"You're kidding."
"No, that's what Lane says."
"Okay, well if you change your mind, I'll be at the gas station."
Rory stood in the middle of the dance floor and watched him walk away. She felt stupid dancing by herself, so she walked off the dance floor and wandered around the bushes with little twinkle lights in them for a while. Kirk did a really good job decorating. But while it was all really pretty, there wasn't much to do, so she chose to follow Jess to the gas station.
While she was walking there the song changed to Then She Appeared by XTC, one of Lane's favorite bands.
She found him there, fiddling with a cigarette in his hands.
"I can't believe you still smoke," she said.
"I'm telling ya, old habits die hard."
"Don't you find it a little irresponsible to light this right next to a gasoline?"
"Maybe I'm not going to light it."
"Oh, so you're just going to put it in your mouth unlit because: 'It's a metaphor?'"
Jess laughed: "Maybe, I'm not going to smoke it at all."
"Oh. And what is that decision depending on?"
"What's gonna happen."
"When?"
"Now."
Suddenly, Rory had a déjà vu. Fourteen years ago, after her interview with a Yale dean she and her mom had stopped by at Luke's. She and Jess had just started dating and her mom and Luke werent very supportive, so they used their lame kid code to sneak away to the gas station and made out. It was kind of their first date. Who knew a date at a gas station could be so romantic?
His dark brown eyes locked with her bright blue ones. He put his hands around her slim waist and she placed hers on his shoulders. They locked lips in the most passionate kiss Rory has had for a very long time. Just a few months before Rory asked Jess in the middle of a rant about everything that went wrong in her life: "Passion? Is that really a thing?" Now she knew it is. And this was it.
"Wow," she gasped after they pulled away, "you were right, old habits really do die hard."
"Yeah. You're glad I didn't smoke that, aren't you?"
"Yeah," she laughed.
Jess put his cigarette back into his pocket and kissed her again. They made out for a while in the dim light of twinkle lights in the background with Then She Appeared playing in the background. Then Jess broke the kiss and said: "Well, that part still works."
"After everything that's happened between us," she added, with a smile.

4 and 11 for the ask thing please? 😁
TUA Asks
Holy shit! I got this ask... I'd like to say 2 months ago? I'm so sorry I haven't gotten to it all this time, but here it is!
4. What do you think all the siblings’ favorite bands are?
I had so much fun coming up with these, though I did get help from my friends. Also we didn't only include bands because creativity costs a lot these days.
1. Luther; Although Luther doesn't quite seem like the time to listen to tøp, he so would. We love a depressed 29 year old. He would also listen to The Lumineers! [help from: @tidalwave-prince]
2. Diego; Weezer, definitely. He tried to get into Imagine Dragons at first, it just seemed to pop-ish for his taste. [help from: @princejoopie]
3. Allison; I don't feel like Allison really likes bands specifically, but she would definitely be into musicals. Literally all musicals. She once played in a musical but she rumored herself into getting the role so fuck yeah it hurts. She'd definitely listen to the backstreet boys with Klaus though. [help from: @tidalwave-prince]
4. Klaus; Before Vietnam, his favorite band was The Hollies. But in his time in the 60's, Dave introduced him to The Doors. It was Dave's favorite band and now it's his favorite as well.
5. Five; We see Five in the series kind of invested in the 1950's (he knew what that decade tasted like), he probably had an assignment in that time and that's when he started listening to the Beatles. Five loves the Beatles.
6. Ben; Mother Mother. Not a lot left to say, they're unique, intense and also pretty depressing. If that doesn't scream Ben vibes I don't know what does. [help: @evelinaonline]
7. Vanya; She definitely likes classical music, she plays the violin for crying out loud, that isn't a band though. She definitely went through a punk phase at some point in her life, and she lived for Green Day.
11. What hobbies do you think the siblings have?
1. Luther; I'm still not sure if it's confirmed because I've forgotten, but Luther definitely likes to write poems. It helps him keep his mind off other things.
2. Diego; If we exclude the vigilantism and knife throwing, I feel like Diego likes to dance? David Castañeda has got some moves I'll tell you that, so I simply can't get this off my mind.
3. Allison; I'm honestly not so sure what Allison would do. Before she lost custody, she spent as much time with Claire as possible. However, considering how famous she is, she doesn't have a lot of free time, she never did. I think she does sports and/or goes to the gym a lot. She probably tries to improve her singing skills without rumoring herself as well.
4. Klaus; I've said it once and I'll say it again. Klaus is unpredictable and he would try literally everything. We've seen his drawings on the walls of his room, they're pretty darn good, we've also seen him trying to knit. I feel like Klaus would take knitting seriously though, unlike his other hobbies.
5. Five; I don't know how old people work. But for some reason I cannot get Five playing video games off my mind. It's hilarious! At first he thinks video games are stupid, and a waste of time, next thing he knows he's obsessed. He is a competitive gamer.
6. Ben; Ben loves reading. He always did, even when he was younger. In a way, it's an escape from the reality of him being dead. He can live inside every story instead.
7. Vanya; Vanya's kind of obvious, she plays the violin. We've seen how much it means to her, but I think after the whole apocalypse thing, sometimes even touching the violin would be too overwhelming. So, she tried to find new hobbies, like making collages! She's good at arts & crafts in general.
Ask me more questions if you dare.

Tumblr media
hi, meet my bby and pls plot with me (ノ◕ヮ◕)ノ*:・゚✧
hi guys, it’s me, Carmen, this is the part where I reveal that I used to rp here around 2 months ago with a Tom Holland FC named Jake Brooks who was the biggest smoll bean in the world (here’s a link to his dead blog omg he had so much potential rip), sO YEAH PROBABLY SOME OF YOU ALREADY KNOW ME, HI THERE, I’M SO HAPPY TO BE BACK, I MISSED Y’ALL
Now I present to you my bby Danny with the lovely face of the greatest male singer of our generation aka Brendon Urie (◡‿◡✿), have some facts about him:
He was born and raised in New York, down in the streets of Brooklyn
He’s an only child and he comes from a pretty wealthy family so his relationship with his parents has always been cold and distant, they were always too busy working/making money and he was always being cared by the nanny in turn or his grandparents during the weekends
They were the typical rich parents that didn’t care much about his kid but they always gave him everything he wanted/asked for so yeah he grew up pretty lonely but spoiled too u can say
Since a young age he developed a big love for music probably bc his grandpa used to play him his Frank Sinatra, Bob Dylan, Elvis Presley, Chuck Berry, The Beatles, etc (u know, classic and amazing music) records all the time, like he would teach him about his favorite artists and little Danny was just so amazed by all of it
His grandpa passed away when he was only 15 and this was a thing that rlly affected him and he still misses him to this very day, he always cites him as the reason why he started loving music and one of his biggest inspirations
He started to play guitar at 13 when he got a guitar for Christmas and since then he’s learned to play basically every instrument but his favorite is and will always be the piano
During his middle school/high school days he was your typical trouble boy, causing trouble all over the streets of New York with fellow wealthy spoiled kids who found alcohol a fun thing to try at only 15 LMAO he also was always pissing teachers off at school and stuff (we all know a kid like this, don’t we LOL)
Before starting his senior year of high school he decided to drop out and rejected his parents offer of attending Columbia University after graduating and instead decided to move to L.A to pursue a music career, he was just too confident he’d make it and didn’t want to “waste” any more time at school and since his parents never cared enough they didn’t try to stop him but instead gave him the all commodities so he could move in there
After a few months of living in L.A he met other boys that were his age and had the same dream and bonded with them so they eventually formed a band together that they decided to name “The Lost Boys”
Explanation behind the silly band name: u know the Lost Boys from Peter Pan, well!! They related to that concept, like never wanting to grow up and being all alone without their families in L.A, idk if there’s already a band existing out there with that name if iT DOES PLEASE IGNORE IT LMAO i made it all up at 3am last night
Their genre is indie/alternative (imagine their sound arctic monkeyish like they started being teenagers and really loud but evolved into some type of jazz stuff recently as they grew older and started wearing fancy suits)
Even though they are not like Green Day or Muse famous they got their big break a while back (like those throwback songs you remember from the mid 00s that were such a classic), and they’re pretty well known around those who enjoy alternative/indie music and he’s toured all over the world with them!!
So if your character is a musician or has something to do with the music industry/music please assume the connection that they know each other bc he knows a lot of people in the scene omfg
Concerning his love life, well, since music has always been his biggest priority he’s never had a “real” relationship before like he’s had his girlfriends and stuff (most likely models bc rockstar) but he’s never fallen for someone hard enough to want to settle down and get married u know, the no strings attached relationship type are his fave thing too lmao
Personality wise he’s literally the life of the party!! like you’d never get bored around him, he’s extremely confident because he’s well aware of his talents so he may come off as cocky or vain but he ain’t an asshole LMAO yes he’s a diva that loves the attention but he’s pretty chill and easygoing, he also loves partying and liquor LOL he’s hyper 24/7 tbh
THIS IS WHERE THE MOST IMPORTANT PART COMES: he’s father of Teaegan’s (our lovely Demi Lovato fc) daughter but he has no clue yet LMAO none of them do so here I am to bring that plot alive that will kill me with all the feels (they met in L.A since they’re both musicians and had a fwb relationship), his life is about to change forever and he’d have to try and calm down his wild lifestyle bc of her precious baby Blake
He came here to Crownsville after the latest Lost Boy’s tour ended since he had friends come live here and he heard nice comments about it and he wanted to find a quiet, nice place to stay and find some inspiration for the new album, you can find him around performing jazz sets in bars (he loves jazz, in case that wasn’t clear before or obvious lmao)
He didn’t tell anybody he was coming here tho, knowing his impulsive nature he just decided last minute to move in and here he is now LOL
I think that’s it or at least that’s all I can think about I’M SORRY THIS IS SO LONG, and thanks for reading please come plot with me, i love plotting and i love u all (ノ◕ヮ◕)ノ*:・゚✧
ps: please bear with me as I post my first starter and reply to a few, I’m a bit distracted bc of the Coachella livestreams, currently watching Weezer as I wait for my bby Billie Eilish omfg

Note
Hi, I don't know if you remember but a few months ago i sent you an ask about john's preception of paul's supposed indifference in the media in the early 70s, and i was wondering if your still planning to respond? I mean if not thats totally cool, i just would be really interested if you have even incomplete fragments that you haven't posted (cause you posted a few in the past, i think?) Anyway, i really love what youre doing with this blog, have a great day!
Oh, I remember very well, my dear long-suffering anon, and at this appallingly ponderous rate I’ll probably have a response written up to my own fathomless standards within the next two years or so. 😞😓😩😖 I’m so very sorry; I’ve said so before, but it befits me to say it again. My overall productivity where @amoralto is concerned has ground to a halt this past couple of weeks for colourless personal reasons of depression and malaise, so I’m feeling awful about that as well. More fragments I can provide, though - they’re mostly just Thoughts From Several Years Ago, me looking up old notes I made when I was working on this response to your ask, but I hope it provides at least a modicum of entertainment:
I don’t prescribe to the idea of attributing someone’s entire personality to a specific, singular event, but the childhood experience of finding himself in the position of effectively having to choose, symbolically, between the love (and affection, guidance, trust, loyalty, presence) of his father and his mother, would have significantly impacted his ideological makeup and ingrained within young John Lennon a predisposition to see love as a zero-sum game where going with one means abandoning the other forever, and having it both ways is an impossible lie, because you’ve never had it both ways, and in fact, you will see to it personally that you won’t have it both ways, because you’d rather fuck it up yourself than let them fuck it up for you, because they will always leave you anyway. So I’d imagine that as a young John Lennon growing up in schism, comparing your household to others’ and painfully aware of what you don’t have that they do and vice versa and all else, you’d both justify the notion and rebel violently against it. Fulfill your own prophecies. Hence the impulsive, headlong infatuations with gurus, and the incensed, guillotined fallout afterwards. Hence the inveterate need for a parental figure, alternately resenting their authority and desiring their attention and coddling. Why these systemic issues with love, family, and abandonment seemed to pronounced themselves so profoundly in relation to Paul in particular is probably for all those indefinable symbiotic reasons that have been waxed lyrical about. Just as it was a magical buoy for their partnership in its naive and romantic beginning, this indefinable and ineffable quality to their relationship was also an obscure leaden weight to their partnership in its latter-day disillusionment. It’s not so much the fact of its ambiguity itself that was an issue, but that it was conditional, and neither was consciously aware of it until, well, the conditions arose. I mean, this isn’t at all meant to be a summative Where Did Our Love Go? précis, but just in terms of their communication with each other as emotionally hedging Northern lads, their relationship, from John’s perspective, seemed to depend on an implicit awareness and understanding of each other, on the reading of each other’s minds, on recognising each other’s unspoken thoughts and desires and enacting upon them, which he eventually realised was unrealistic and unsustainable (even if he never necessarily stopped longing for it). But they couldn’t have grown as a partnership without expecting and accepting each other to grow as individuals apart from each other, and they couldn’t have gone on continuing to looking to each other and expecting to see their own reflection without depleting themselves. But, uh, rather than go into histrionic ramblings about ego and identity and projection and fear, I think what I mean is: knowing what you don’t want isn’t the same as knowing what you do, and in such immovable contention there was only going to be disappointment and despair. Not knowing what you want but expecting the other to know and give it to you, and not get it? Hurt, rage, betrayal, you never loved me if you did you would have known I was in pain you moon-eyed fucking Engelbert Humperdinck I bet you knew and you just got off on seeing me suffer.
On that note, a candid illustration of John’s Paranoid Troll Logic, circa mid-1966 to early-1967, i.e. the “I was going through murder and I knew Paul wasn’t” period:
1. You’re happy and working and I’m sad and idle.
2. How can you be happy and working when I’m sad and idle?
3. If you really cared about me being sad and idle you couldn’t possibly be happy and working.
4. Maybe I’m sad and idle because you don’t really care about me.
5. Maybe you’re happy and working because I’m sad and idle.
Or two:
1. I’m miserable, and if we’re as close as I think we are, you should be able to tell.
2. If you’re not able to tell, it must mean we’re not as close as I thought we were, which makes me even more miserable.
3. Maybe the reason why I’m miserable is because we’re not as close as I believe we were, and I can’t tell how close you believe we are.
4. I can’t ask you about it, of course, because I shouldn’t have to, and it’s your fault anyway, you should be the one asking me first, it’s not like you’re the one who’s miserable.
 5. … Maybe you’re making me miserable. On purpose.
Or three:
John: Sometimes I don’t even want to be in this fucking band anymore. I can’t stand being Beatle John, it’s going to suffocate me, but in the situation we’re in I don’t even know who else I can be. We’re in this together, Paul. You understand. We need to break away from all this.
Paul: Hey, I’ve got an idea! Let’s make a record where we all pretend we’re in a made-up band! Then we won’t have to be in this band, not really, because we’ll be other people playing other people’s music! It’ll be liberating!
John: … Remember when we just canceled all our engagements and went to Paris?
Paul: Sure I do. You know what, you should come out to London with me some time, it’s an amazing scene! All the music and plays and films and happenings… John: Hey, why spoil it when you’re already having so much fun without me around? What’s so good about all that, anyway? Pretentious tossers, the whole lot of them. Not that I care. Paul: They’re not so bad. Have you written any new songs? John: I haven’t written anything in weeks. Bothered.Paul: Well, bother yourself, then! And get something done by Friday. We have an album to make, you know. I’ve already written about four new songs - nothing much, just some melodies I whipped up in between this and that, but we can work with them.
John: You’ve just come here to gloat, haven’t you.Paul: Are you having trouble writing? I can help you out! What are partners for? Not today, though, today I’ve got a gallery to set up and two articles for the International Times to write and then dinner with Groovy Bob and a lot of artsy mingling to do with my new queer friends you’re so intimidated by for some reason. Want to come along? John: No, because I’m in pain and you don’t care and I hate you for not loving me enough. Run along, I’ve got my own lysergic work to get to. This ego of mine’s not going to destroy itself, you know. Paul: Alright, alright, I’ll leave you to it. See you on Friday!John: … Please don’t leave me.
And some waffle on Paul’s manner of Dealing With Things By Not Acknowledging Them (which, when aligned with John’s Desperate Need For Verbal And Explicit Acknowledgment, would hurtle them both towards a terrible ending):
As an affect of his stubbornly persistent optimism, to put it glibly, one could see how Paul’s need and inclination to focus on the enactive and positive side of things would also preclude an avoidance of anything he thinks he can’t achieve, help, or deal with, because direct confrontation of the problem would entail the risk of him losing control in that situation, which would render him vulnerable, or worse, being seen to be vulnerable. The avoidance thus manifests as both a defense and a coping mechanism for uncomfortable situations or unsavoury trains of thought - remember, this is someone who isn’t inclined toward navel-gazing, who doesn’t at all like to examine his own thoughts or emotions,  because it would hang him up. He has to deal with them in some way, though, so what can he do? Diffuse (project onto someone else), deflect (be hostile and passive-aggressive), or dive behind a piano, essentially. So if Paul’s way of handling things (during the Beatles years at least) was to avoid the Negative, redirect attentions and efforts to something Positive and hopefully in the process overwhelm the Negative entirely by all that is Positive, then you can see how the avoidance played out in, say, the case of Brian’s death (Let’s all travel far far away from this smog both figuratively and literally and make a new film about us going on a mad bus trip and make a new album to go along with it and be together all the time as a band again because we can totally manage ourselves and this will prove it and everything will be fine!), or the latter-day disintegration of the band (Let’s plough through the sessions because things have to get good before they get better and it’ll be a good album because we’re us and at the end of it we’ll all be proud of ourselves because it’ll prove we can still do it and maybe just maybe we’ll stay together and make more good albums and everything will be fine!). He couldn’t ignore the plaguing tensions at hand, and knew he couldn’t address it directly without inviting confrontation or contributing to the existing tensions, but he knew what he could do, practically - make music, and involve others with making music. As long he was actively doing something, then he was actively moving himself and everyone elseforward, and if they kept moving forward for long enough the problem would recede into the distance until it ceased to be a problem entirely. And so he did, until they were far along enough to move onto the next phase, or until they couldn’t possibly be moved anymore.

New Year, New Music - Pt. 1
Tumblr media
Check out what 2018 has in store for us, or might. Here are both definite and possible releases for the new year.
2017 was a great year for music. When you thought the mumble rappers were going to take over, in comes the lyricists. When you thought the industry forgot all about R&B, in comes a slew of R&B releases from both oldies and newbies. Streaming sales took over the game, podcast-galore, and well, the memes were downright legendary. Let’s not forget when the rest of the world seemed to catch up with us when it was announced that Hip Hop became the dominant genre of the country. Uh, duh.
Now it’s 2018! There aren’t too many projects confirmed for this year, but conclusions have been drawn and clocks are a-tickin’. And I for one have a feeling 2018 might just snuff out 2017. Kidding! I know, “How do you beat out releases from Jay-Z, Kendrick Lamar, SZA and the rest of them?” Well, we shall see.
Dave East
Tumblr media
Paranoia2 January 16th
Well, it’s just an emotional rollercoaster with this one. Whether we think we’re getting his debut album, in comes another mixtape.
After releasing Paranoia: A True Story in August, Dave East offers up its sequel. He took to Twitter to make the announcement, as well as reveal the cover of Paranoia 2 which features his daughter, Kairi Chanel. East has always been open about his life, especially with his daughter who just makes his pictures that much better. When comparing the two covers of Paranoia and P2, the content comes into question. Paranoia shows himself sitting there in a frantic daze, whereas Paranoia 2 closes up on his and Kairi’s face. More mature content, perhaps? Will this project focus on the future? Or will is focus on the ladder, building up to the future. And his debut album will be the future?
He first talked about Paranoia 2 right after the release of Paranoia, but its Halloween-due date was completely passed over. When talking to XXL about P2, he went on to confirm “and then, album time, like my real debut - debut, debut. Probably like, end of the year, top of the year…That’s when you gon’ be hearing about Tidal and all that.” The 15-track project includes features from the likes of 2 Chainz, Sevyn Streeter, Fabolous and more. Still new to the game, Dave East has all the potential to drop an amazing debut album. Whether it be late this year, or early 2019, there is no debut album in sight so we’ll just have to enjoy the build up. Just let the Paranoia sink in.
Nas
Tumblr media
TBA
It’s been six years since Life is Good, and while it’s been reported that his next album is done, Nas has yet to release anything. I imagine him sitting on this album until he feels it’s the right time to release it to the masses. While we wait and twiddle our thumbs, growing tiresome is not an issue. An artist as talented as the legendary Nasir Jones, we will be waiting. But uh, Esco? Hurry up, please!
Justin Timberlake
Tumblr media
Man of The Woods February 2nd
After some teasing in the past few weeks, JT has officially announced that his fifth studio album, Man of The Woods, will release February 2nd. Timed out perfectly since the album’s release is two days before he hits the stage at the Super Bowl 52 Halftime show. Its been five years since The 20/20 Experience, which dropped seven years after FutureSex/LoveSounds - Timberlake is no stranger on waiting. Back in November, Timberland told Rolling Stone, “The music we just made? It’s gonna put him on another plateau.” The announcement was made via a short teaser that stars his wife, Jessica Biel, and Pharrell Williams. The trailer also features snippets of new music, especially one being the album’s lead single, “Filthy,” which is set to drop at midnight Friday, January 5th. As he tweeted: “This song should be played very loud.”
youtube
The visual offered above portrays Timberlake as rugged and part of nature, feels of The Revenant, he explains in a voiceover, "This album is really inspired by my son, my wife, my family, but more so than any other album I've ever written, where I'm from – it's personal," With rumors of JT going country, and confirmed contributions from longtime collaborators Timberland and Pharrell, who knows what we’ll hear on February 2nd - but we are here and ready for it.
Cardi B
Tumblr media
TBA
2017 was most certainly Cardi B.’s year. The underdog, the glow up, that one fun and crazy cousin that you can get lit with and also get some amazing advice from - Cardi fits all the relatable storylines and makes it easy to root for her. Releasing hit single after hit single, Cardi’s been has broken a couple records on Billboard. She made history by reaching No. 1 on the Hot 100 with “Bodak Yellow,” being the second solo female to do it after Lauryn Hill in the late ‘90s.  Literally the second day of the year it was just announced that she is the third artist, following The Beatles and Ashanti, to have three singles simultaneously chart the Hot 100. And if you didn’t notice it, she is the first rapper to do it: No. 4 “No Limit,” No. 7 “Motorsport,” and No. 10 “Bodak Yellow.” Following up with the new record under her belt, she teamed up with Bruno Mars with a remix of his 2016 “Finesse." It’s her first track of the year that just might make it on the chart. Check out the “In Living Color” inspired visual below.
youtube
Man is Cardi riding that wave of success, but when will she finally release her debut album?! On a couple occasions in the past, Cardi did mention her album was done via social media. Nothing came of it, it’s safe to assume Atlantic had over plans. J. Cole even gave her some advice to not rush her work, only release what she’s happy with. She and her team certainly have been making strategic moves so it should be any day now with all the recent success. Cardi B took over 2017, and it looks like she plans on making 2018 her bitch too.
Nipsey Hussle
Tumblr media
Victory Lap - February 16th
Fresh off his Atlantic deal, Nipsey Hussle announced his long-awaited debut, Victory Lap, will drop February 16th. Along with the announcement, he dropped the album’s lead single, “Rap Niggas.” Check out the visual below.
youtube
Nipsey Hussle is in the middle of his promo run, making a stop to the Rap Radar podcast to sit down with Elliot Wilson and B.Dot Miller. In the interview, he talks about his debut, bringing his independent label All Money In LLC to Atlantic Records, having to switch from rapper to entrepreneur and more. Back when he made the deal, he sat down with Billboard to explain his hunger and ambitions concerning the multi-album Atlantic partnership:
“It’s not about a fame ambition or getting a radio record. The decision really came down to the message I’m trying to get across. I wanted to give that message the best chance to be heard and consumed on the highest level. that was my goal from the hump as All Money In took time to build its position in the hip-hop lane."
Drake
Tumblr media
TBA
“I’ll be back in 2018 to give you the summary”
Well, not that we’re rushing you but…it’s 2018, Aubrey. Since the release of More Life, photos and videos of Drake in the studio have periodically been taking over social media. Let's not disregard the last two singles that were leaked since NYE. As More Life was labeled a “playlist,” does it serve as the intro to his 2018 album? Will there even be a 2018 album? Of course, considering Drake is known for living in the studio and is a music-making powerhouse. No matter what he calls it, we’re still expecting a collection of new music this year.
Chance the Rapper
Tumblr media
TBA
Since his 2016 Coloring Book, Chance the Rapper has further cemented his career and the fact that, well, he’s a superstar. His style has always been unique and he’s consistently stayed true to himself. Each project has been different from the sound to the feeling it gives you, and even how it’s conceptualized. Although nothing exactly has been confirmed, Chance has been keeping busy recording music, making people laugh, and saving the world. I’m not expecting this new found stardom will change his ways, and it doesn’t seem like it has. I do expect Chance to push boundaries, play around with different sounds and even content, and that it will be a great project.
Rae Sremmurd
Tumblr media
SremmLife 3 - TBA
After their sophomore effort in 2016 got them a No. 1 spot with “Black Beatles,” the duo took to Twitter in April that SremmLife 3 was on the way. Months later they dropped “Perplexing Pegasus,” possibly the album's lead single. Last month, with no actual release date still, Swae Lee confirmed the third album would be here “January, for a fact.” After talks of the two going solo, and Swae’s success with actually going on his own, Slim Jimmy and Swae Lee are, “for a fact," a solid team. They are far from breaking up, so we can still expect another project from the  “Black Beatles” themselves.
Kanye West
Tumblr media
Cruel Winter? Turbo Grafx 16? Who knows - TBA
After a turbulent and hectic 2016, Kanye West spent most of 2017 under the radar. Towards the end he emerged, sightings of him outside the studio with various artists. Even walking around with his laptop has stirred up some rumblings. Ye might just be back. Correction, he’s back! Upon the release of the long-awaited No Dope On Sundays, CyHi the Prynce revealed that Kanye West would be producing albums for the G.O.O.D Music crew, including Kid Cudi. Yes, Cudi who dropped out a few years ago. The final release of CyHi’s big debut alone signifies Kanye’s comeback. Since he’s breakdown, he’s clearly creating again. The process is therapeutic alone, now add the gratification of bringing up those around you that you’ve signed. Oh and let’s sprinkle the excitement of fans who are ready for another album from the creative genius. Ye’s been on a roll, a creative streak. No pressure of course, but we’ll be (im)patiently waiting for the rise of Yeezus. Whether that be through the answer to Cruel Summer, or a new album entirely, we are ready for some G.O.O.D Music from a healthy and happy Kanye West.

King Push - TBA
It’s been some time with no new music from Pusha T - sans any features - since the release of his 2015 Darkest Before Dawn. Push gave us an update on Complex News, saying King Push is 85 percent done. He also goes on to confirm that Kanye will be producing the majority of the project: “It’s mostly Kanye West. It’s good beats, I’m giving you the science! Good beats! Crack!” A good sign indeed. No hints on who’s next. Although a Kid Cudi release was teased on NYE and Desiigner’s still waiting among everyone else, Pusha T might just be next in line. 2017 was the TDE year, 2018 may just be the year of G.O.O.D Music.
Wait! There’s More!
Stay tuned for part two of “New Year, New Music.”

The Story So Far return with Proper Dose, an aural prescription all the sick emo kids have needed for the last three years.
It's been three years since the last TSSF record dropped. So imagine I'm patiently waiting for today's release to come and the night before I get the promo. I know I say a lot of bands have gotten me through dark days. The most relevant dark period of my adult life was around 100 days long, I had these dudes on repeat that summer. It gave me hope and more reasons to stay around. I have not gone public about everything that summer and I guess now you can kinda figure it out. That summer I was battling going away for good. The beginning of those 100 days were miserable beyond description but a month into that era, negativity started to dissipate. I was unbelievably miserable but I was still finding ways to try and stay positive. The more I listened to their records and a few other bands that summer, the quicker I got away from the end. This didn’t save me from a shitty relationship or dumb friends, it saved me from me, the worst enemy I’ve ever had. Again, music to me is about introspection so when a band can make you look inside yourself and see what you need to fix, that is the goal for me as a listener. What music is literally going to make my life better? Apparently these dudes do the trick. It wasn't all just the music or the weed or the escape or knowing I had to do something other than give up. At the same time, I played them more in 2016 than any other artist. When my spotify end of the year lists came out they had every top 20 slot for songs, top 3 for albums, and the number one artist. I got obsessed and that drove me to catching up on lost time with a lot of things because their lyrics got me to open my mind to all the things I was pushing away. This isn’t fanboy shit, this is real. This band literally saved my life and when I could stand to see myself in the mirror again, I was going in a different direction than before. Forward.
Their discography as far as I'm concerned is a shining example of emotionally driven progressive pop punk music and with Proper Dose it seems like the fellas are getting out of their own 100 day darkness. Their songwriting continues to evolve with their age and their sound on this record just really makes me want to go back to California. By the time you get to "If I Fall" it's hard to hide the desire to walk East Bay streets with a doobie in hand and personal evolution on the horizon. They paint a hypothetical picture that reminds me that in my current state of life, I can be better.  The record was written over a year’s time with guitarist Kevin Geyer and drummer Ryan Torf  writing the songs from scratch, even using synthesizers as the pre-production tools of the songwriting process. Eventually those ideas and pre-production demos would be the backbone to the songs that make up Proper Dose. They were even quoted saying everyone in the band has gotten really into the Beatles and it played a part in their development of a higher level of creativity. "Line" is basically a fucking breakbeat song. Beautiful Sunday music for day drinking or smoking or both. This record is like TSSF saying... "Look, we wrote an acoustic song years ago. You always ask us to fucking play it. We're tired of it. Here's an entire record of songs that are better, and plenty are light enough for your emotions to get a hold of. Sorry hardcore kids this record isn't for the pit. Put it on and cuddle your life-mate." Obviously this is hypothetical but I'd like to think this is the emotional dropkick the mosh pit needed at their shows. They're growing up. Like most bands do. So of course the record isn't gonna be the finger pointing anthems you eleventeen year olds want. Please don't get me wrong, I love that side of this band. But this is a sure fire sign that they have evolved and are changing. Fucking absolutely beautiful record. I'm legitimately proud of the The Story So Far boys and the producers and engineers who helped create this next step in their career. I hope you all have a drink or a smoke in realization that you made a game changer of a record. I am only one person but I appreciate this record more than probably most people.
The kids who crowd kill and run across heads are already so fucking disappointed in this, and that makes me incredibly happy, because well, fuck them. Nothing says “I regret kicking a girl off stage” like changing your sound completely. I love this band but that had to be the catalyst for them to change shit on such a drastic level. Another assumption on my part, but it feels right.
This record is going to drastically change their live sets and the crowd participation. Sure there will still be plenty of older tunes to get down to, but you all have to know the shows are not gonna be as “finger-pointy” instead they will be more introspective. So instead of spin kicking a kid in the face you will think “Why do I want to spin kick someone?” Hopefully this record helps other people grow, as their older stuff helped me grow through the darkest time in my 30s. I highly suggest this album to anyone who is a fan of The Story So Far but also anyone who likes lighter pop punkers who used to be into windmills and picking up change. It’s okay, besides Mike Ness one of the toughest baddest mother fuckers out there said something a while ago that still sticks with me today… “Even tough guys fall in love.” Cheers fellas!
