supernatural fic rec list
(mostly for me to keep all my favorites together. all on ao3) (be nice, i’ve never made one of these and the format is new to me)
Try asking by @applecrumbledore
Wincest, 7k words, rated T. Outside POV.
“Jerry says he saw them going at it in the back of that car of theirs outside Atlanta last year, I swear to God.” “Listen, man, I don’t like them either, but that’s a low blow. Jerry’s a fucking pervert.”
The sound of dead leaves by clavicular and unhappy_ghost
John/Sam + wincest, 6k words, rated M. Sam POV.
John looks at Sam in a way no father should. Sam aches when Dean smiles. The shadows that loom over Sam Winchester are not just those of the monsters lurking in the night.
Echoes of Hell by The_Nightbreaker
Gen, 35k words, rated M. Sam POV.
It wasn't real. He wasn't in Hell anymore. That's what he tried to tell himself over and over. But two centuries of torture don't disappear in a day. Sam struggles with visions of Hell, fighting to maintain his grip on reality. Dean hates that he can't protect his brother from what isn't real—but curse him if he doesn't try. When the boys stumble on a case with ties to the Devil himself, will they be able to pull themselves together in time to stop the sacrifices? Or will the echoes of Hell finally overtake them? Aka, season 7, but the plot is Hell trauma, not leviathans.
Evening Shadows by withthekeyisking
Gen, 2k words, rated T. Outside POV.
Sam is hallucinating the monster who tortured him for nearly two centuries, Dean feels like he's failing his brother, and a diner waitress bears witness.
Lesser Evils by Dyed_Red
Wincest, 9k words, rated E. Dean POV.
“So you’re just gonna, what – torture us for an hour while your guys hightail it to Buffalo? That’s your master plan here?”  “Oh I can do a lot in an hour or two, Sammy. Like having your surrogate daddy here carve Dean a new face. Like backsliding you off your pretty bandwagon. Like…Seeing how far big brother will go for his sweet baby Sam.”
Prophecy of an Abomination by ashitanoyuki
Gen, 88k words, rated M. Sam POV.
Sam wants to be normal. Sometimes, it's harder than he'd like to keep faith in God. Or: a story of religious!Sam plus powers!Sam culminating in horrifying Sam whump (with eventual comfort to go with the hurt). A character study of the first two seasons that sharply diverges in season two.
he’ll follow me down every street, no matter what my crime by according2thelore
Wincest + Meg/Dean, 17k words, rated M. Dean POV.
“What do you want, Sam?” Sam stands up, so Dean is forced to look up into his face. Sam turns them slowly, so the small of Dean’s back bumps into the polished wood of the counter. “I want…” Sam says, eyes flicking down to Dean’s lips and Dean knows when something is too good to be true, knows that this can’t possibly be real, knows— “Christo.” Dean rasps, just before Sam’s lips land on his, eyes open wide. Sam’s eyes flash black. “Whoops,” Sam says casually. A thread of tension stretches between them, almost interminable, and then they both move at once. The demon in Sam’s body slams Dean back, and Dean crashes against the bar. ~~~ A rework of S2E14 "Born Under a Bad Sign" with Meg!Sam and Dean instead of Jo for WincestWednesday on tumblr's July Event, prompt "Favorite Episode" (with a cameo from the second prompt "Blood")
You’d Have Loved Her (But You Won’t) by punkrock101
Gen, 5k words, rated G. Sam POV. (compiler’s note: this is my personal favorite fic of all time)
Sam never got to tell him. Sam never got to tell anybody.
Flowers in the Impala by Evendar
Wincest, 2k words, rated M. Outside POV.
Kate wants them to be a family - really, she does - but there's something wrong with John's boys.
—-—-—
that’s long enough for now, i think. feel free to reblog with your favorite fics as well

(fem!Sam samjohn+Wincest)( dark, guys I don't know what has gotten into me.
some things will always be hard to deal with, some things will always hurt down to the bone. Sam sits down on the couch, whiskey breath on her face, brother way to close for any other family, and it's just normal.
He always starts the same way, just touching, angry slurring. Then he always takes more, groping, squeezing, hurting. It only hurts when he goes too fast, drunker than normal. Today is a good day, quiet pleas for forgiveness, gentle squeezes of her breasts, only A cups and dean always makes fun of her for it. Now he isn't making fun. Now he's telling her that he always liked them, wanted this since she was a kid. No point in telling him she's still a kid.
The first time she had to get an abortion, 13 and scared, fake id that was so obvious, her doctor gave her a number to call, if she needed help. Now they use condoms.
john uses the same ones too, just because they're in the house, probably wouldn't use anything if they didn't have them. He always starts the same way too, always drunk, always apologizing. Always "you look so much like your mother" as if he didn't say that the first time and the last, everytime in between too, if that matters. He's always more gentle, makes it hurt less. It feels worse though, because what kinda freak gets off on their dad fucking them?
It's just another day in Sam's life, and the cracks in her bones are just a bit deeper as she sits on the couch, ignoring the pain of her brother.

OMG, when manipulating people, Lucifer appears to people as their romantic partners, episode 15x19 is PROOF of D/C!!!!
Except Lucifer didn't only appear as love interests or only use love interests to manipulate people. Although we didn't know who was doing the manipulating at the time, he appears to Sam as John in episode 11x04, to further convince him the dream visions he's getting should be followed. We see him manipulating Rooney in episode 12x08, and he is using Rooney's religio-political aspirations as his hook, not a person at all - let alone a dead love interest. We also know he manipulated plenty of vessels offscreen by unknown means - I doubt the Archbishop of Saint Louis was pining for an old lover. Furthermore, I'd posit that Sam knows Lucifer better than anybody but God and Michael by 7x02 post-Cage. So if Lucifer really did only appear as love interests? Hallucifer appearing to Sam as Dean in that episode would be "proof" of wincest.
So there were non-love interest manipulations and manipulations we didn't see onscreen that probably weren't centered on romantic partners. Which is enough to put holes in the theory alone, because its entire substance is just Lucifer appearing to someone = dead love interest. But why stop there? Let's talk about the context of the ones that are supposedly clues Castiel has to be a dead love interest, just because Lucifer did appear that way a few times.
Nick was obsessed with his wife and son's murder, and Lucifer's first salvo was causing Nick to hallucinate a baby's cry and a flood of blood from the empty crib before appearing as Nick's wife, who (unlike the son) could actually talk enough to make a specific bargain. Murders that we find out later were committed by *gasp* demons on Lucifer's orders to make said potential vessel desperate and vulnerable. The hallucinations Lucifer gave him pointedly included allusions to his dead son as well as his dead wife, so it clearly wasn't just about a romantic connection. It was his current weak spot, he was broken because his family were murdered.
When Lucifer goes to Sam in 5x03, Sam is trying to just sit the apocalypse out and live a normal life, hoping that will work to prevent anyone else getting hurt. Just like he thought he could sit the hunt for the demon out at Stanford. Even if Jess had just been his buddy, the girl who fucking died the last time he tried to live a normal life would still be exactly the right metaphorical knife to the ribs in that situation where Lucifer wants to imply that people can't change and there's no reason to hope the world won't end. Even Dean isn't a better choice there when the parallel of Sam getting normal people hurt by existing in their vicinity is so obvious. It was his current weak spot, putting innocents in danger.
Vince Vincente is depressed at least partially because his ex-girlfriend committed suicide after he treated her like crap and therefore blames himself for her death in 12x02. He does say in the moment that all he wants is her back - but actually, we learn an episode later that part of the deal he made with Lucifer was to heal his paralyzed sister because Lucifer sure as hell didn't do that out of the goodness of his heart. So again, even though it did involve a dead girlfriend, that wasn't remotely the only vulnerability Lucifer exploited, just the one that fits their theory. It was his current weak spot(s), the women in his life that he failed/couldn't help himself.
In each case, Lucifer is just using the best weapons he can bring to bear on the weak spots of vulnerable people, y'know, how a manipulator operates. That they involve romantic partners isn't actually the main reason for their use, and again, isn't his only shown tool of manipulation.
So Lucifer doesn't only use romantic partners to manipulate people, but even when he does it is about what the target's current vulnerability is that he can exploit to get what he wants. Which brings us finally to talk about that scene where he tricks the Winchesters with Castiel's voice in the penultimate episode. He needs to get into the bunker to use the Winchesters to trick the reaper to make sure he has the right death book. Sam and Dean are both inside. Most of their dead allies have been dead for a while so the shock and trauma has worn off/been buried - or they are alive enough to take a phone call and say no, they aren't at the bunker's door, actually (if Lucifer even knows enough to know who they are). But Castiel? The trenchcoated angel just carked it again a hot minute ago and wouldn't be able to get through the wards, making him the perfect tool for the job. It literally wouldn't matter if it was Dean or Sam, he's the entity in that moment they'd be least surprised to see resurrected and would open the door for, which is what Lucifer needs. No twue lurve necessary.
This is not the literal stupidest meta they've ever tried to pass off as valid. But yet again, it falls on its face if you actually examine it as a premise. Because they don't remember enough of the canon to know their theory is actively contradicted by other examples they forgot. Because they very pointedly pick and choose what context counts as important. Because they refuse to see other logical interpretations which are very obviously right there. Ultimately and fundamentally? Because they start from the premise that D/C has to be totes real and actively ignore everything and anything that doesn't lead to that conclusion - which is pretty much the entire canon, once you put their "proof" back in its original context and remove the distorted shipper goggles.

Happy Wincest Wednesday, Z! Which ultimate wincest episodes do you think are the most illustrative and crucial, when it comes to Sam and Dean's relationship development stages throughout the series? Thanks <3
hello bulb, hello, and what a happy wincest wednesday to you as well! and also oh shit this is a tough one, but -- [cracks knuckles] fuck it, no over thinking, open up the list of all episodes on wikipedia, wincest goggles on brain off let's goooo
Pilot: obv
Bugs: suuuper important for how they each understand their relationship with John, which of course informs their relationship with each other
Route 666: Sam discovers that Dean is not actually a callous horndog, news at 11
Something Wicked OR Nightmare: Dean will do anything for Sam, news at 11
Croatoan: actually Dean will just go ahead and die rather than live without Sam, so that's... special.
AHBL 2: well, now he can prove that's so.
Fresh Blood: actually you're not allowed to be devil-may-care, sorry, you have to be in it with me.
A Very Supernatural Christmas: ...fuck, that means this is really painful. But it still matters.
Time Is On My Side: Sam will actually straight up become a monster if it means Dean will stay. (Dean: you WHAT??)
It's a Terrible Life: turns out that respite even in this horrible days isn't enough to keep us away from each other, love you forever, your panties really match your suspenders
Good God Y'all THROUGH Fallen Idols, watch in a binge: this hurts so much maybe we should break up -> oh shit that actually ends the world -> well I'm still mad at you -> okay you can be mad, but you can't be mean -> you're right, love you, partnership and respect uber alles
Swan Song: obv
Appointment in Samarra/Like a Virgin: yes, it is worth this, it is worth anything, to have you back, I love you so much
The Man Who Knew Too Much: I'm not leaving my brother alone out there
Hello, Cruel World: Stone Number One
Torn and Frayed: we'll break up with our significant others because we value this partnership more than short-term happiness
Sacrifice: I MEAN, OBV
I Think I'm Gonna Like It Here: I said I don't put anything before you and I meant it; you said you wanted to live and I really hope you meant it
Do You Believe in Miracles?: "I lied." / "Well, ain't that a son of a bitch."
Paper Moon: it doesn't matter as long as I have you back (redux)
Book of the Damned/Werther Project/the Prisoner: sure, let's destroy the world, who cares, we're making sure Dean's safe
Into the Mystic/Love Hurts: I will carry any burden for you and I mean it. I mean it, forever.
And actually -- that last moment, in Love Hurts -- "I got it, Dean." -- that's... everything. Dean believes him. Dean knows. There are actually more great !! moments in the arc of their relationship after that, but from that very moment the marriage is stone-solid. Dean told Sam how scared he was of Amara and Sam accepted it and reassured him and that was -- it. There's no faltering, from that moment on. Even if later they get in some arguments or have internal conflicts, that specific moment of pure trust and acceptance is THE MARRIAGE for me and I will bask in it always, forever and ever, amen. Thanks, canon.

The number of barn scene gifs and mentions showing up in the notes on this is frankly equal parts disturbing and completely expected.
I know that a lot of wincest shippers and "spn is about the brothers actually" people think that if you hate the finale it's purely because you're a heller who is upset about Dean and Cas not getting to make out, but I'd like to think that the notes on this poll are proving that to be categorically untrue.
I AM a heller, but Cas not being in the finale isn't even in my Top 3 reasons why I hate it so much. The main reason I hate 15x20 is because it completely flushes 15 years of character development down the shitter. You could watch 1x01 and then 15x20 one after the other and feel like you haven't missed anything that happened in between, so what the fuck was the point of the other 325 episodes?
I know that covid-protocols changed the plan, and that the team who were deemed essential enough to create those last two episodes did the best with what they were given. I know that Jensen has been quoted as saying he is proud of the performance he put into these episodes, and that certain people have twisted those comments to think that means he likes it (people misreading Jensen's tone is a whole other post); but I don't for a second think that being proud of something you've achieved automatically means it's good.
I also don't think there was ever going to be a good way to finish a 15-year journey where nothing ever truly stays dead. Death is not and has never been closure on Supernatural, so having it end with "and everybody died" is a fucking cop-out.
Even if Supernatural hadn't taken a 15-year journey through Sam and Dean finding out that "family don't end with blood; but it don't start there either", and it had remained a story that was just about their co-dependent trauma bond from a childhood of being raised by a one-track-minded monster hunter, how on earth was one of them dying bloody a success story? How was the other giving up everything he'd ever known a success story?
Add the complexity of the 325 episodes between 1x01 and 15x20 to the mix, and how on earth anybody can think that Dean still wanted to go out with a bang and Sam still wanted his apple pie life absolutely astonishes me?! As they each enveloped more and more people into their lives and their hearts, their motivations changed, as motivations are wont to do as you age from your 20s to your 40s. These are both multi-dimensional characters with changing hopes, dreams and desires that are shaped by the world around them.
In a story that is about family, fate and faith, the finale completely corrupts all three of those things. The Winchester brothers had their chosen family taken away from them, the manipulator of their fate was removed and left them completely directionless, and their faith was decided for them when they were thrust into a heaven (where their parents are supposedly happy together just down the way) that had been newly designed by their 4-year old foster son.
Throughout the entire series we are continuously told season finale after season finale that "there will be peace when you are done", but the Sam and Dean I know would not have felt at peace in that version of heaven. They would have had questions, and a lot of them, and a hell of a lot more work to do.

ahhh!! thank you, nonny! i totally agree those those were some of the best fics ever and now i really need to get into the habit of like, keeping tab of fics that i read because i read so much that i don’t know anything anymore. but here we go. long af (hopefully, at least they’re longer than 10k) wincest fics.
title: douglas county
pairing: sam/dean
rating: mature
length: 78,000+
warnings: alternate universe, underage sex, recreational drug use, implied/ referenced abuse, masturbation
summary: prison au. dean winchester is a new correctional officer at douglas county youth services where he meets sam wesson, a fifteen year old inmate who’s been charged with arson and the death of his parents. dean finds himself increasingly protective of the young inmate, but as his personal life gets more complicated, dean has to find out exactly how far he’ll go to keep sam by his side.
title: the theory of relativity
pairing: sam/dean
rating: explicit
length: 19,000+
warnings: curtain fic
summary: the apocalypse is over. sam writes it all down, and the result tops the new york times bestseller list for an entire year. dean loves that sam’s found something to do with his life, but doesn’t know how he fits in. And when dean reads sam’s second novel, things get even more confusing for him.
title: into oblivion
pairing: sam/dean
rating: mature
length: 24,000+
warnings: death (temporary), amnesia (temporary), permanent injury, drug use, barebacking
summary: au after 8x23: sam dies before completing the last trial, leaving dean alone and desperate. after a month of trying to bring sam back with no luck, dean gets a tip from the most unlikely of places: metatron. now reigning in heaven, the angel is still looking for stories—one story in particular. sam and dean broke destiny when they derailed the apocalypse, rewrote the book metatron had penned himself so many thousands of years ago, and now theirs is the only history the scribe of god can’t access. although he has sam’s soul captive in heaven, no amount of torture has convinced sam to give up his and dean’s life story. metatron gives dean a scroll and makes a bet: if dean can follow the instructions and return sam’s soul to his body within three days, then heaven will relinquish its claim on sam. If he can’t? dean will forget he ever had a brother, and all of his memories of sam will belong to metatron. it sounds like a fair enough deal, but of course there’s a catch. from the moment dean reads the instructions, he begins to forget sam and his quest, each memory disappearing faster the more clues he leaves to keep himself on track. it’s a race against the clock to decide sam’s life, and it’s all or nothing. dean will get his brother back—or lose him completely.
title: tethered
pairing: sam/dean
rating: explicit
length: 16,000+
warnings: bdsm
summary: dean is abducted by vampires, and on his return, he's distant. untethered. it's not something sam has ever dealt with. he finds the solution by accident.
title: should you ever leave
pairing: sam/dean (kinda sam/jensen)
rating: explicit
length: 21,000+
warnings: fourth wall, crack fic, meta!jensen
summary: sam has spent two months alone after dean died and disappeared. he would do anything to get him back, even if that meant summoning something that wasn't quite dean, just looks exactly like him and screams a lot.
title: stranger than fiction
pairing: sam/dean
rating: explicit
length: 50,000+
warnings: meta, other tags not mentioned
summary: dean can't stop wondering why people would write gay porn about him and sam. research takes him to interesting places; re-reading novels for subtext, visiting message boards, and a really freaky place called livejournal. what he discovers is a sick fascination with fanfiction, more about gay sex than he ever wanted to know, and an even deeper obsession with understanding why people write this stuff. meanwhile, they're hunting a mysterious monster that takes the form of a person's truest love to kill them slowly, the lines between fanfiction and reality are starting to break down, and they still have to stop lilith and save the world.
title: twinsanity!verse
pairing: sam/dean, sam/jensen, jensen/dean, jensen/jared
rating: explicit
length: 112,000+
warnings: a ton of warnings

title: brothers-mate ‘verse
pairing: sam/dean
rating: explicit
length: 16,000+
warnings: abo
summary: at age 32, sam winchester presents as an omega. no one is more surprised than dean, the alpha who's been pining over his little brother all his life.

The Destiel Folder: Season 10
[Season 4; Season 5; Season 6; Season 7; Season 8; Season 9]
Episode 1:
Cas is slowly dying, practically naked, in a bed, and the first thing he says when talking about Dean is "I miss him" (6:35), with a soft smile. "Why would he just disappear?"
Tumblr media
... I'm sorry but If Cas Were A Woman, this would look like a scene from a movie or something, where the wife talks to a friend over the phone about her missing husband. JUST SAYING
Crowley: "The girl seemed nice. Slightly damaged. I could see the old you falling for that." (9:29) uhm... who else is "nice and slightly" damaged? I don't know... CASTIEL??!!!
So... these two men (actors Todd Mann and Brad Mann) we see with the DemonGang, are real life twins (9:14).
Tumblr media
At (27:18), Crowley states him and Dean did "extroardinary things to triplets" ... and, well, the only twins with a possible other sibling we see are... them
And this is not the first time we hear about Dean doing "things to triplets" with a buddy of his (15x07)... and the first time he was NOT a demon... so, there's that. And triplets don't necessarily mean "all females"
Cas, while talking about the good things that come with choices, mentions "hope, love, dreams" (39:06), and Hannah points out that "those are human things". Human things...
Cas is talking about his own personal experiences with creating chaos, so those are the things he felt after rebelling for... Dean... WOW. ICWAW, it would totally be read it as a reference to Dean. A romantic one. Fight me
Episode 2:
Cas is dying, just got back from a fight that left him wounded, doesn't have enough power to heal himself, is on a mission to restore Heaven, and once again he chooses to go save Dean (9:35), and the way rage builds in his eyes when learning Dean has become a demon. Look at this shit
Tumblr media
I might be crazy, but this feels like a touching metaphor to me:
"I think you don't know what you want. Tell me, Dean. What are you? A demon? [...] Maybe you're human. [...] Why don't you do us all a great, big favor... and pick a bloody side!" (22:22)
METAPHOR
Episode 3:
We are reminded that, even tho in terrible conditions, on the verge of death, Cas is willing to risk it all to save Dean, and is devastated by the thought of Dean not making it (4:47 - 5:17)
This is so funny to me, I'm sorry, but Cas is so visibly uncomfortable with Hannah touching him, it's hilarious (15:58)
"I've been around humans for long enough to see how easily distractions occur. Emotions, feelings... They're dangerous temptations." (22:32) like rebelling against your own kind, destroying your home, falling... all for a human?
"I'm trying to keep our priorities clear." Moments earlier, Cas listed "Getting to Dean" (22:17) before anything else. In fact, Hannah says "I am very clear of my priorities... and yours." = Dean (23:00)
Cas is not sure whether the cure will kill Dean or not, and in any case, he wraps his arms around him, and softly says "It's over... Dean it's over." (35:40) as if hushing him to sleep, in what could have been their last moments together... wow. Think about this ICWAW
"Well, I can see his point. Only humans can feel real joy, but... also such profound pain. This is easier." (36:17) Look at the way Sam is looking at Cas looking at Dean
Tumblr media
BITCH OKAY!!
SAM KNOWS
POSSIBILE future Empty reference "real joy"
Cas already stated he misses being human, but knows how fragile they are in both body and spirit:
Castiel really wants to be with Dean. For real. But maybe he thinks (see season 9) him being an angel is an obstacle to their feelings.
Only by being human he can truly be happy (MMMMMMHH SEASON 15), but isn't sure he could handle the pain that comes with it. A possible rejection, the thought of Dean dying, him leaving Dean... MMMMHHHHH
"You look terrible." [...] "Well, you, on the other hand, you... *checks out Cas* Looking good." (39:09) full homo right there. Also parallel with Ketch in 13x18 ("You don't look good." "Yeah, well, you're not my type, either.")
The way they are looking at each other here... man.
Tumblr media
Cas is so happy to have Dean back, and Dean looks hurt about Cas leaving so soon.
"So... so, you're back?" "At least temporarily." (39:27) bitch, you know that's not what he ment.
In all of this, Cas is trying to make Dean feel better about the whole situation (DAT SMILE 40:18), and Dean replies with "I'm glad you're back, man.", basically no-homoing himself...
Cas starts walking out of the room, but stops and turns back [insert concerned husband here] (40:27), and Dean has that hopeful look in his eyes, like Cas is going to stay, and the hurtful look comes back as soon as Cas is gone
Episode 4:
"On your knees!" "Wow, I'm awfully flattered-" (34:33) SASSY BI DEAN IS THE DEAN WE DESERVE
Episode 5:
Fucking kill me NOW!!! Dean's reaction to Destiel is PRICELESS!! And even before he learns what that is, he just looks at the girls playing him and Cas and... freezes for a moment (13:18) And the eyebrow raise thingy at (13:34)... what's going on in your brain, Dean?
I'd like to point out that the Italian translation for "You can't spell 'subtext' without S-E-X" is, for once, AMAZING:
"It's just that... their bond is so strong it has subtext of a... sexual nature."
THANK YOU ITALIAN DUB! JUST THIS ONCE, THANK YOU! (13:43)
Also at (9:44) Dean immediately reacts to the implication of Wincest subtext, shutting it down and telling the girls to take a step back, but with Destiel he is like... alright
... this is so fucking cute, (25:54) Dean adjusts the girl playing Cas' tie so that it's messed up like the real Cas'. ADORABLE
SAM SHIPS IT (13:57) and is teasing the SHIT out of Dean, who reacts like someone being teased about their crush. Just saying (14:08 - 14:52) [AND THIS HAPPENS IN FRONT OF A PINK-BLUE WALL]
"I know I have expressed some differences of opinion regarding this version of Supernatural." (26:44) ... oookay meta? *turns to "Cas"* "And I want you to put as much sub into that text as you possibly can." ... oKAY?!
Episode 7:
Cas being extremely uncomfortable with women is too fucking funny to me (5:03 - 12:51)
Episode 9:
(15:13) Alright, so, this is a date... what now? Anyway, nice bi flannel, Dean. And the little sweet smiles you two are giving each other? So fucking precious (16:01)
Tumblr media
"I ain't exactly a role model." "That's not true." (16:07) how Dean looks at Cas right after that? BABIES!
"How are you, Dean?" "Fine." "*I-call-bullshit look*" "I'm great!" "No, you're not." (16:18) #MARRIED
As Cas is choke-holding a guy, Dean, clearly amused (almost proudly), says "I'd do what he says." (22:17) Like that time with Raphael in 5x03, Dean likes it when Cas gets rough
Episode 10:
Shut the fuck up and marry each other already so you can finally actually BE the old married couple™️ you ALREADY ARE (22:17)
This is the "My husband is so FUCKING STUPID" look (22:30)
"I was hoping you might reach out to her." "... Me? I'm probably the last person she'd want to hear from." [...] "All I know... is she won't talk to me." (23:03) #MARRIED, PARENTS, PERIODT
Shut the fuck up. Cas is the dad trying to figure out technology (23:36) "I'll text you her number. I like texting. Emotions!" DAD
Cas worries about Dean like a wife would with an alcoholic husband
Of all the things Dean could be MAD about at Metateon... the first thing he can think of is him stealing Cas' grace (31:33) (okay, maybe he is going in chronological order but STILL)
Episode 11:
[I AM SO SO SO SORRY BUT DEAN USED THE ALIAS "PRESLEY" (18:55) I AM NOT OKAY]
Episode 14:
Have this deleted scene: Castiel and Crowley bitching over Dean, and Crowley calling Dean Cas' boyfriend
This is some hell of a goodbye-eye-love-making scene (26:57)
Cain compares himself to Dean... and CAS TO HIS WIFE COLLETTE [PARALLELS]
"You're living my life in reverse [...]
First you'd kill Crowley. You'd get it done, no remorse. (Cain had been killing his descendants, for whom he didn't care much)
And then you'd kill the angel, Castiel. Now, that one... that, I suspect, would hurt something awful. [And than Sam is Able, bla bla...]"
AM I WRONG?! YOU'RE GONNA LOOK AT ME AND TELL ME THAT I'M WRONG??!!!
Dean gives the First Blade to Cas... oKAY (37:10)
Worried brother-in-laws (41:27)
Episode 16:
This is such a good source of hidden meanings scene! Dean starts his "confession" as a scam. Everything he says at first is to attract the spirit.
He starts talking about seeing lots of women, not being able to control himself, and being sick of it. Then the real confession begins...
Dean feels he's going to die soon, and fears not death itself, but what he would be missing from his life.
"There's things... people, feelings that I... I would experience differently than I had before. Or even for the first time." (25:28) and the priest believes Dean is talking about love.
Tumblr media
Well... "people, feelings"... who could he be referring to? Does Dean want love all of a sudden? People he wants to experience for the first time... uhmmmm... Is Dean opening up to his attraction to MEN??!! Or one angel in particular?
ICWAW we would guess Dean was talking about Cas
"Who mixes their blood and bones into paint? No woman has ever done that for me." (39:19) UHM- Dean, what about
6x20 "He has bled, died bla bla bla for us",
7x21 "I'm always happy to bleed for the Winchesters" or
9x22 "You just gave up an entire army for one guy"
ICWAW we would ALL roll our eyes at this statement and scream CAS
THE GUY BLED, LOST HIS HOME, REBELLED, DIED FOR YOU!! HE REBUILT YOU PIECE BY PIECE FROM HELL- SAVED YOU DOZENS OF TIMES!!!
Episode 17:
About saving Dean from the Mark: "We won't- (free Metatron)" "Yes, you will... because you're desperate." (9:44) Hannah knows. Let's remark that
"All I'm getting from you is... colours." (14:26) bitch he is a walking 🌈PRIDE FLAG🏳️‍🌈
Notice how, when we get a Sam-Cas centred episode, we don't get the same interactions with Dean-Cas? Why this?
Dean is always ready to call Cas a "brother", but the only one true bromance here is Sam and Cas'. There are no longing stares, no weird sexual filled dialogue nor tension, NO LONGING STARES
Facts, my people. Facts
Episode 18:
"You killed my friend." "Oh, pff, Dean is fine, mostly. Can't you get past that?" "Never." (12:39)
Charlie being excited about meeting Dean's famous boyfriend is WHOLESOME (37:34)
To have Cas back, 100%, safe and sound, is a win for Dean (38:58) and the face Cas makes after Dean hits him with another no-homo "It's good to have you back, pal." is "UHH not this again". Charlie already ships it
Episode 20:
A #MARRIED couple and their daughter. NO ARGUMENTS VALID (7:06)
Look at how they enter the motel (16:22)
Tumblr media
OH MY GOOOOOD!!! #PARENTS coming back home from shopping!! THE HAND ON THE SHOULDER!!! Also
"Happy birthday. I got it at the Hot Topical" DAD
Dean: "Imma head back over there." Cas: "I'm coming with you." Claire: "I'm coming with you too." (17:24) #FAMILY
A fucking family comedy about a dad confronting the daughter's boyfriend and the other dad scolding him:
"What did you do to him?" "I didn't lay a hand on him!" "Dean, that isn't exactly true." "... Well, I didn't kill the guy." (17:14)
Surprisingly enough, this is not the first nor last time Dean acts like a dad to a lost child (AND TWO OF THESE TIMES THE KID IS SOMEHOW RELATED TO CAS) (21:54)
Episode 22:
C: "Claire, you are not going out there. [...] It's too dangerous. I can't let anything happen to you." D: "Claire, you're not going." C: "You're not either, Dean." D: "What?" (19:29)
#FAMILY DON'T TALK TO ME!
"No fighting. [...] Both of you." AAAAAA
This doesn't fucking matter, but Dean just said "... for the ladies. Or the fellas. I don't judge." (36:23)
Cas' speech to Dean... wow. "So if there's even a small chance that we can save you... I won't let you walk out of this room." (39:20)
I hate this scene. (40:11)
Dean is overwhelmed by Charlie's death, Sam and Cas' betrayal, the Mark changing him and all the other shit.
The Mark is taking over, and Dean can't (and won't) help it. Cas knows it. He doesn't want to hurt Dean. He is not even resisting. Doesn't put up a fight.
And just like Colette with Cain, Castiel only asks Dean one thing: "Stop." (40:38) [9x11]
Parallel to 8x07:
The only thing that stops Cas from killing Dean, is him begging, clutching onto his sleeve.
"Dean... please..." (41:08) Cas pleading Dean, clutching to his arm, makes him resist the urge to kill him.
Tumblr media
Episode 23:
You can find gifs and the script of some deleted (destiel) scenes in this post by @charlie-minion
As the Mark eats Dean... he starts feeling guilt for the people he hurt... first on the list: Cas (14:54)
Tumblr media
(This gif is not mine)
Well... what a season.

Hey Hun! Lots of love to you. For starters I wanted to say that there should be no cell in your body blaming yself in any way. You and your blog were hope for so many people. You were the "you are not crazy" of the final weeks, and I'm forever grateful to you. Instead of dying of anxiety I managed to have a blast in this time of waiting, thanks to you. I passed my master thesis, because you gave me strength to see past the fear. I laughed in those weeks more than in last 5 years, and all of it because of the hope you gave me.
The rest of the msg is going to be pretty emotional rant about the awfulness of it all, and I know my opinion doesn't matter to anyone but I wanted someone important to me to hear my thoughts, if that's ok. It's also ok if you don't want to read it ofc. It's like my breakup letter to the show.
I hear many people cheering for the finale and i find it really hard to deal with. I always considered myself an open person who fights for healthy love as the only redeeming quality of the universe. I could see people's point of view, even if it didn't sit well with mine, and I would always try to hear them out respectfully until they weren't being respectful themselves. That said, I'm fully unable to understand cheering for this type of spiteful content and hearing those cheers makes me feel like the entire world is listening to "this is how you treat your fans, this is how to abuse your power over naive sheep, this is how to keep dumb, hopeful minorities in check" and taking notes.
It also upsets me that the people who gave this show all of themselves and tried to understand it to the core are given no resolution, are spitted on and buried under the rug for doing their best to appreciate the art and the story it was telling. Yet people, who just hang around and watch the show doing the dishes, with no consideration to it's story or characters, got as nonsensical ending as their whole idea of character development in SPN.
I know people say that it was good enough, because it leaves space for guessing and own interpretation, but I feel it's really undermining the extend to which the finale was awful and hurtful to the fans. There is no end that realistically could stop fanfic writers from finding way around it in the world of Supernatural, so saying it was thoughtful of them Is like excusing abusive partner because "they could hit me harder, but they didn't. That means they care"
Lose ends, characters being written in a way that is totally not true to them and their development (personally my biggest allegation), dismissing years of story development, proving that it was all 'queerbaiting' in big part in the end (hell, even the whole "Cas is in heaven so do with it what you will" is a shameful way of appalling to LGBTQ community after using them so hard.
In the pie scene, the roles should be swapped, it's Dean who should say that Cas is on his mind and Sam explaining him that it's only right to keep on living doing good in their name. That's what Dean told Sam at the beginning of the season, when Sam lost Rowena, so it would be at least a bit poetic. This would at least give us some truth from Dean for once, but he died how he lived, in shadow of his fear to be true towards his feelings and needs. And as he died, he bound his little brother to the hunting till the end of his days, by guilting him into it on his deathbed. Guess Dean took after his father.
Have you realised what that emotional "love speech" from Dean to Sam resulted in? It was writers taking back Cas' confession after they didn't need our viewership anymore.
They basically gave us love confession to get us to follow the finale and when they didn't need us anymore, not only they didn't commit to the confession, but they undermined it by having Dean's speech to Sam go the way it did with obviously higher emotional charge, successfully taking back the value of Cas' confession and making it about a bait for "Tumblr idiots"
Finale killed my feelings towards Destiel, not because it wasn't confirmed canon, but because from what I see in the episode, they canonically confirmed that
- for Dean, Cas was only means to an end, which is such an awful way of ending Cas' character arc. They gave him everything he was scared of and nothing close to consolation price and they dare to tell us he had a happy ending, "because they said so". Well, I didn't see him being happy, and knowing what i textually know i can empathise enough to say that he faced a miserable finish. Even Chuck got an end that was better than Cas' fate.
- Dean, given power to do anything he could dream of, chooses to not even greet Cas, after Cas gave his whole life to Dean, told him he loved him and died for him. I know some people consider the little smirk of Dean confirmation of his feelings, but let's be real for just a second. If someone you deeply loved for years confessed to you, told you they thought you don't love them back, you would be freaking running to see them and tell them how much you love them. That smirk to me reads as "I'm relieved to know you're not going to spend eternity in mega hell that i left you in" and we really need to stop giving credit to writers for scraps like this when it's the last episode ever and we know this isn't going anywhere.
Not to mention that by having Jack bring Cas back behind the scenes it just highlights the fact that Dean didn't ask him to do that in episode 19.
As result, I'm unable to look at any Destiel scene and not think "in here Cas already loved him and in here Dean already abuses the power he had over Cas, because of his one-sided love"
And yet, the episode and endgames for everyone (maybe not Sam, but he was seriously pinning for Dean his entire life. Wincest much?) managed to be so bad, that not even bringing Cas back or following up on Destiel would make a difference in my eyes. I know you believe that Destiel would save it, but for me as much as it would be a redeeming quality, it wouldn't be enough to save this awfulness that writer doomed characters with.
And all the Wincest scenes in the finale... I low key expected them to make out and it made me feel physically sick. Also, cutting Misha out because of coronavirus is a cheap excuse. We all know better than to believe that, so let's not fall for the self pity play from the abuser.
If you managed to stay with me till this point, thank you so much for hearing me out. I hope i didn't anger you with my monologue. I will always think of the lamp when i think of you. The reality is that you were the lamp for so many of us in this darkness.
Love you so much, wish all the best to you, take care of yourself and stay safe!
Oh my god, if I didn’t cry with the final, I definitely am crying now. And now I have to explain my partner why I’m staring at my laptop and sobbing ugly. What have you done?
First of all, I hear you pain, my friend! I share it! I didn’t spend a second after the final without the feeling of my heart being shuttered into million pieces, being stitched back just to break again, and so on and so on.
I had my first panic attack in two years yesterday, when I kept thinking about the message the show sent to the fandom via Dean’s fate. I have a few posts in my draft on the matter, but I am not sure I will ever share them, because it is one strong depresso, and I don’t think people following me should see how fucked up it really is (if they didn’t get it by themselves, of course).
I want to remind you, my gentle soul, that the story belongs to us. We know Dean, we know Cas, we know Sam and others. We know that the final is not who they are! I know it’s hard to ignore the text, the canon, because it’s kinda godsent, but the truth is essential. And the final is not the truth.
The truth:
Cas loves Dean, he sacrificed himself for him, he saved his life on multiple occasions, he told all those beautiful things and he meant every word.
Dean loves Cas, he was on his lowest every time he lost him, Cas was his “big win”, his best friend, his brother, his white light that lead him out of his anger, hatred and despair. He took a dog and called it Miracle, he was looking for a job to retire from hunting, he didn’t kill Chuck - all of that, because the sacrifice Cas made was not in vain! The message was clear.
I choose to ignore the “Carry on”, the only attention it is going to get is me creating 20 more mails just to put a one star review there and to drop some more salty or bitter comments with it. Maybe I will read through some reviews, too, add them to my collection.
Maybe I will one day write here an article from scriptwriting perspective how fucked up in was, because that’s what I can do about it, without throwing up.
If you can’t ignore it, I understand it. It is painful, it is disrespectful, I hate it as much as you do, probably.
If there’s anything I can do for you to feel better, just drop me a message, we can talk about it. I am on the lowest, too, but maybe we can help each other.
You say I was your lamp. Let me lead you our of the darkness one more time <3
CW can suck my metaphorical dick (I’m tagging every angry post with it), but Supernatural is not just the show on CW, it’s a big family.
And you can’t give up on it! You can’t give up on Dean and Cas, you can’t give up on Destiel! It’s so much bigger then the show itself.
Rediscover the show for yourself, remind yourself that Dean and Cas are real, it was never one sided, it was always something amazing.
What is real? We are.
Don’t you ever change.
I rather have you, cursed or not.
It’s love, hun, and love always wins.

happy wincest wednesday!! let's talk omega dean. how do they handle dean's heats when they're still in the pining stage of their relationship? does sam leave? does he stay and help?
helloooo happy wincest wednesday <3 doesn't it feel good to be able to watch a show and understand its themes and then have fun with them out loud with your whole chest? I think so!
Well, this does depend on the kind of omegaverse you're going with. In my case I prefer my version -- understandably, I think -- where the whole thing is a lot less Intense than the more 'traditional' vibes. Halmans have their heats but they're not brainless fucksponges; they just really really want to have sex and they're horny af and ovulating wetly. And good for them! But it doesn't necessarily have to ruin your whole week. In that scenario, and with pining -- let's say pining!Sam specifically -- I think he doesn't leave because that would be too obvious, but he's put in this awkward position of wanting to fuck Dean very very very badly indeed and of course he can't say anything, so he jerks off in the shower a lot, picks up a stranger, is snappish and then apologetic by turns. Dean probably notices the snappishness and gets hormonal about it, poor lamb. Jerks off while Sam's in the shower and feels sorry for himself. What a relief when they finally get over themselves and bone.
If I have to go with 'traditional' a/b/o then I'd say, in a pining!Sam universe, Sam absolutely leaves. If omegas really are mewling needy fucksponges and Dean's brain is gonna kind of turn off and he's going to grope for any knot that'll satisfy, then Sam is going to just take that off the table for both their sakes. (If it's one of those universes where you're not supposed to have that reaction to a siblingcock then Dean probably thinks there's something deeply wrong with him -- he often does! -- and Sam knows there's something wrong with him and just chalks it up as another horrible item on the list.) So Dean's set up in his masturbation palace with various implements and a shitload of gatorade and Sam is available via text to make sure Dean has food and is drinking water and isn't gonna die and he doesn't leave, or fuck anyone else. He stays right there just in case the omega needs him because he can't go anywhere else. Even the thought makes him feel like he's going to puke. When he finally gets the all-clear on the last day where it's not as bad, he comes into the room and Dean's flushed and sort-of-sated and the room smells like the best pussy in the goddamn world and Sam tells his dick not today, satan and cracks a joke and Dean rolls his eyes and it's something to put away into the spank bank, until the next time.

Oh man, would you mind talking a little more about your pet HC of ace!Dean? I have flirted with aro!Dean for ages, but now that you mention ace...!
hey bud
This is intended to be a fic one day so I've sort of avoided talking about it, but tbh it might be one of those headcanons that doesn't really deserve a fic? Like the kind of thing where, once it's translated into narrative, it really just reads like a pamphlet for the author's HC and isn't particularly satisfying to read. So I guess I might as well talk about it.
First: **THIS IS JUST A HEADCANON OMG**. Here I'm using headcanon in the sense of 'hey, this is a thing that can sorta be extrapolated from the text as shown, and it's kinda fun to play with! I don't think it's literally canon or intentional on the part of the writers, but it's entertaining!' So, please don't take as me trying to claim canon gospel, I don't need angry anons. Especially these days.
Second, to the aro thing: I know a lot of people do kinda like that for Dean, and to be honest I can't see it at all, like at all at all. But! There are a lot of semantics and personal interpretations when we come to the words 'love' or 'romance', so what you may viewing as a divorce between Dean and either concept may be miles from what I'm viewing as Dean + those concepts. I see a much more fluid/seamless river between affection/friendlove/romanticlove/need-for-closeness. This is aside from the fact that Dean's love for Sam is pretty indefinable and insane-making, in literal canon as well as any fanon treatments.
That said, I really do see a lot of romantic urges in Dean. Of course they can be interpretable depending on your semantic readings! But things like: - crushing on the guitar lesson girl in Bad Boys - immediately falling in love with Cassie - the dream of himself in the djinn!episode being in a committed affectionate dating relationship with Carmen - literally dreaming about Hallmark picnic dates with Lisa - later actually committing to a real relationship with Lisa, and fully operating as a romantic partner for her. His speech in the virginity ep about how good sex is because of connection, and his wistfulness when he talks about how he always has to say goodbye. [from here on I'm going to stop putting in caveats about how those *can* be interpreted still as aro and just take it as read that you can have any hc you like, okay?]
Third, given the last item in the previous list: I find it fun to interrogate Dean's love for sex. He loves sex. He loves it! He goes after it when he can get it and has so much fun! There's the fireworks and the joy and all that good stuff. ...But. Physical sensations are nice, but what if it's more that he wants the warm and happy human connection? What if it's that he loves making other people feel good, because after all what is Dean but the happiest-to-serve little dumpling? What if, after all, he doesn't necessarily need sex in itself just to get off, but instead really is after the romantic elements of the act, however he can access them?
Is that 100% supported by canon? Of course not. He's going after purple nurple girl because he wants to get laid. I just find it to be an interesting read, especially as we see his 'hookup count' go down and down through the years, until he's practically celibate in the latest part of the show when he's living in the bunker with Sam in what is, romantically or not, a committed relationship. Dean doesn't fuck prostitutes and he does not coldly get laid -- there was NO way he was going to have hate!sex with Bela -- so the sex qua sex is not the goal. He wants affection and connection, not just an orgasm.
As often is the case, the reason I'm interested in something is because it's a surprisingly available read in the text, and I think this sort of is! Of course he would have to be a sex-positive ace person, not of the repulsed type. But what I see, for the fic that will probably never get written, is a wincest life where he and Sam started hooking up whenever, that part doesn't matter -- but now they're in the bunker and they're committed and they're never letting go, and Sam realizes that Dean hasn't initiated sex in... months. They have had sex, of course! But Sam's realizing that he's always the one who starts it -- and Dean happily leans in and goes along and everyone seems to have a good time. But what's really happening is that Dean's getting the warm intimate emotional connection that he needs; orgasms really are just an afterthought.
I find it interesting, that's all. Mr. soft saxophone solo, holding hands during sex, is really more interested in the holding hands. Sam should take him for a picnic.
