I've seen comments on the Twitter about how Snow White was never that girl and she's boring and passive and too content to cook and clean for men, and that Rachel Ziegler's version is actually going to do better for the character. Didn't we used to do the same thing to Cinderella? Called her passive and weak and not girlboss enough to save herself and instead needed a prince to come rescue her? And then we realized that take was super wrong and shitty because it actually takes a lot of strength to survive such abuse and come out a good, kind person, and that she deserved her prince and her happily ever after. And that it was also reductive af to label her anti feminist because she wasn't some proactive, go-getter heroine who saved herself. So why are we now not affording the same grace to Snow White? Why are we suddenly going back to that old problematic viewpoint we once left behind? I'm genuinely baffled, especially since the general consensus is that the girlboss feminism Hollywood thinks is so progressive really isn't and that there is more than one way for female characters to be protagonists.
(Also, Snow White fighting to take back her kingdom has been done twice already AND there are multiple badass Disney princesses, so no need to act like you're changing the game and inventing feminism in the Disney space).

Why people need to stop being obsessed with Johnny Depp:
youtube
JD defends film director Roman Polanski in 2010 interview about Roman Polanski's arrest in 1977 and 2009.
Here is what we know about Roman Polanski from 2010 and years before:
In 1977, Roman Polanski was arrested for raping 13-year-old Samantha Geimer in Hollywood.
Roman Polanski arrest in 2009
Y'all wanna keep supporting a rapist who defends rapists? What about when JD lied to the police about his 15 year old daughter, Lily-Rose at the time, dating a 23 year old man by the name of Ash Stymest?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
We're still ignoring the fact that JD dated Winona Ryder when she was 17, in her own words, while he was 25/26 years old.
He has a history of ignoring child rape, minors dating adults, and defending child rapists.
Want me to go over all the close friends he has?
And the abuse/murder accusations against his friends by their ex-wives and CHILDREN? You can literally just google search it but since I have to do all the work:
His best friend Marilyn Manson abused:
Esmé Bianco
Evan Rachel Wood
Ashley Morgan Smithline
His best friend Beatles member Paul McCartney abused two of his exes, Heather Mills and Linda:
Here's some articles and interviews. One of the victims was painted as a liar, a gold-digger, bullied and told misogynistic things which is typical that victims go through "revenge" by their abusers and labeled these things. Other members of the Beatles were also extremely abusive to their partners, John Lennon admitted to it in a PlayBoy magazine and interview. Abusers stick with abusers.
His close friend, Keith Richards, was accused of sex crimes.
Damien Echols was accused of murdering three 8 year old boys with evidence presented in court which is why he was arrested, convicted and served time.
Johnny Depp raised money to pay for tests and legal fees for Damien Echols and preached publicly that Damien Echols was innocent. Johnny Depp and Damien Echols became close because of JD's ongoing support for him, and Echols stated, "We’ve grown to love him [Johnny Depp] dearly. He’s become like a brother to me.” Echols and Depp both got matching tattoos together.
Greg Ellis, incarcerated 5 times for making threats to his ex-wife and their children.
There was violent stalking Greg Ellis committed, he lost visitation rights to his children, and was violent to his family in which his ex-wife and children accused him of abuse. In 2003, he worked in another movie with JD, 3 movies in total with JD and they knew each other well. JD also wrote a forward to Greg Ellis's book, The Respondent, stated he sided with Greg Ellis, said Ellis deserves to tell his side of the story, and in JD's own words exactly said as, “If you’re trapped in the dungeon that is the family court system, The Respondent should be your constant companion."
Johnny Depp has about 100 best friends, but you can go do your own deep-diving research into each of his close friends or people he actively supports and gets along with.

I just know this fandom would've went for Ann//beth's throat if Rachel was introduced earlier instead of Ann//beth. I just know it. Y'all would've been tearing her to pieces the way you guys did (and still do) with Rachel.

10 Anti LO Asks
(Note: All of these asks are before episode 206 (Season 2 finale) so some may be dated.) 1. The wild part to me about the "Persephone got approved Underworld citizenship" is it took what, a week at most? Even if you want to use IRL Royal examples, someone like Megan Markle would (if she had kept up the process) still need two YEARS to get approved of it at minimum which includes a lot of paperwork and staying in the country for prolonged time, but Persephone gets it in a few days with no process? Is there really nothing Persephone doesn't get handed to her on a silver platter?
2. "How to be a woke misogynistic :Add white before woman" I think this anon was tryna call antis misogynistic?? Which like. Some of the "criticism" ive seen is just people using lo as an excuse to be misogynistic against rs but most of it is genuine idk what they're going on abt 😭
3. ya know for claiming to be a "loving and supportive fandom with no drama" lo fans are by far the most cruel set of bullies i've ever seen, and I've been in a LOT of intense fandoms. and I can't even handwave these fans as just dumb kids, many of them are adult women who made a mid webcomic their entire world and would rather get a power high off the harassment and bullying of others who dare no obsess over what they do while still thinking they're "feminists". it's so weird 💀
4. Lol I love that the person typed that 'regular' people just drop it and move on when they dislike something. Apparently you're no longer a regular person for disliking and discussing a piece of media 😔
Anyway, LO can bite it. It's misogynistic and an insult to Greek culture among many other glaring flaws. The giant red flag of an age gap and power dynamic between them is one hell of a thing to defend y'all, and it's also a hell of a thing to praise 1 character for cheating but cheer on another character for doing the exact same thing 🙃🙃🙃
Also it's incredibly funny to me how LO stans are so so aggressive and condescending to us about disliking it when we're just minding our own business?? We ain't talking to you nor do we go out of our way to mess with your tags (tumblr is tumblr, y'know) unlike a few of y'all that I've seen specifically use the anti tag to start shit like a bunch of brats. We'll continue minding our own business talking about LO with both non-fans and fans who actually want to have a discussion instead of mindlessly praising it, and y'all should mind your own business.
5. This comic loves to claim it’s pro sexuality, pro kink, and pro female empowerment AND anti purity culture yet loves nothing more than framing sex outsides of Hades as bad, loves to push Purity culture to make Persephone look like the best woman ever, loves tearing other women down for not being the “right” type of woman, and consistently shames others’ consenting sex lives as gross and weird despite the whole comic being an obvious stretched out mess of Rachel’s office setting DDLG kink. Like??
6. I mean I get why LO Hera doesnt murder babies and all but it is an issue RS rides off "I'm not trying to be accurate!" when she makes Hades the "perfect" guy and Hera and Persephone the most desirable/amazing with zero flaws but then turns around and goes "oh well I'm being accurate!" to make Zeus be super mega awful and just make up stuff to pin on Apollo, Leto, and Thetis like?? you can't have it both ways?? Like she obvs picks and chooses who gets to be whitewashed and who doesnt.
7. Go figure LO fans to make Netflix all but closing down their entire animation department and laying off hundreds of people to STILL make it all about LO. I have countless friends who lost their jobs all en-masse with no warning and a neutered severance plan (NF purposely made it be four WEEKS instead of four MONTHS), the majority of them and their productions by BIPOC and/or LGBTQ+ creators and they're only worried over well-off and employed Rachel? Fuck off. I'm so upset over this.
8. Completely and utterly disappointed at LO being nominated for an Eisner again. I think Webtoon has the power to just nominate it every year and ignore all of their other series.
9. Listen we all know every award is just marketing and we know damn well Webtoons just pumps the with money to nominate LO but we know damn well they're giving way more money to pump up their brand now because the Batman comic is so lazily made yet was ALSO nominated for best webcomic and they're like "one of our BIGGEST HITS big ethel energy is being printed!" despite it being one of their most hated series that is lampooned for bad art and writing. anyway they need to be taxed more.
10. HXP is such boring, basic mythology shipping. Get back to me when they give Isis x Osiris and Dionysus x Ariadne the respect they deserve.

Okay y'all, so bear with me on this one, but I have some thoughts that I want to put out into the universe - namely, I think Artemis might already have some idea about the kind of person Apollo is, but she is either repressing it or doesn't want to believe even herself about what she knows.
Let me explain.
I was just reading up on Orion for one of my classes, right? Well I just came to this interesting note on the Wikipedia page talking about the different versions of his death...
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And this just immediately reminded me back to this scene in Lore Olympus
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I know we all were always pretty suspicious about how defensive Artemis got with this question, but what if it just wasn't for the reason we all thought?
To me, Artemis always looked scared in these two panels.
We know that Rachel has never been afraid of twisting some of the classic myths to fit the narrative, so what if LO Artemis actually did once have feelings for someone, like Orion? But, what if Apollo got jealous that Orion was taking his sister away from him (since we all know now that Artemis is pretty-well devoted to her brother, even letting him break the strict "no men" rule on a seemingly regular basis) and so he killed Orion to put Artemis back in her place?
And he sure damn well would have let Artemis know as much.
One death would likely not have tipped anyone off to Apollo like the other "acts of wrath" we've seen so far, especially considering it's Apollo we're talking about, so Zeus would (unfortunately) likely have been even more lenient based on the special treatment he seems to give Apollo already in the story. He would have thought nothing of it, if he even knew about it at all!
But Artemis k n o w s.
Maybe Apollo then manipulated her, using her situation to his advantage to make sure it never happened again - he makes her think the relationship wasn't real, her crush wasn't real, it was her fault, whatever, to make sure that Artemis doesn't think about leaving him again and keeps idolizing her brother like he thought she was supposed to do.
We could even go so far as to wonder if Apollo could have been the reason Artemis had to join TGOEM, no different than how Demeter is the one who wants to make Persephone join.
Let's remember this scene, too...
Tumblr media
Eros just straight-up calls Artemis out for lying. I was always under the impression that Eros was referring to Athena and Hestia here, but what if he wasn't? Eros literally admits in this scene that he knew Persephone had a crush on Hades before she admitted it, so it is totally not unreasonable that he would have also known that Artemis either had a crush or a relationship with Orion at some point, too.
He is a God of Love, after all!
But I doubt he was saying it with any malicious intent - maybe he just didn't realize Apollo was the one that killed Orion. Like I said, one death would have been incredibly easy for Apollo to slip under the radar - and so that is why Artemis gets so defensive about it, because this is an uncomfortable topic for her to begin with.
Nevertheless, I think that Artemis might know, to some degree, about the kind of person Apollo is through her own experiences - and so this is why I also think we may be safe from Artemis trying to defend Apollo when what happened to Persephone comes into the light, because while she might be in disbelief for a little while initially, I think Artemis knows.

So I saw the 2019 Aladdin... It's not the worst thing I've seen, but it wasn’t good.  But like... I have to talk about Jafar and how bad he was. Yes, his actor is shitty and monotone and completely lacking in any charisma or emotion. But like... that’s not the biggest problem. People keep defending the writing on him because "he's a good foil to Aladdin." And... no, he's really not. They take this route where Jafar was once a streetrat who climbed the ranks of power and hates being second. He's supposed to be a version of Aladdin who didn't know how to stop and who never learned that when wishing for riches, enough would never be enough. That's a line Genie warns Aladdin about. But like... that's NEVER a part of Aladdin's character. He doesn't become a prince out of ambition. He's not even remotely ambitious. He's just in love with this girl. We never even get a moment where Aladdin starts getting an unending appetite for more or anything. He just gets that same moment from the original where he doesn't think he can keep up the illusion if he frees the genie. Aladdin doesn't NEED the "never enough" warning. It's not part of his character. Jafar displaying that trait is only there to give life to a cautionary tale that Genie brings up, but that tale never comes to play in Aladdin himself. So the only thing that Jafar foils to Aladdin with is that they're both streetrats. But does that go anywhere? No, no it doesn't. It's just there so that people can point and say "Jafar is a dark counterpart to Aladdin, that's cool." It's a novelty. It has nothing to do with either of their character arcs or their rivalry with each other. Compare this to the original: Aladdin is the Diamond in the Rough. He's a poor thief (the rough) with a heart of gold and compassion (diamond). It's what makes him special enough to enter the cave, and it's the value that Aladdin is tested on and has to prove throughout the film. Jafar, on the other hand, is a wealthy aristocrat who dresses in diamonds and fineries, but ultimately is rotten to the core. They're direct inverses of one another. They are ACTUAL foils. And it all ties back to the Peddler's warning in the beginning of the film: "Do not be fooled by [the lamp's] commonplace appearance. Like so many things, it is not what is on the outside, but what is inside that counts." It's basically the same theme as Beauty and the Beast: the measure of a man's worth is his heart. Whereas BatB had to do with superficial appearances, Aladdin has to do with wealth and status. That's why masquerading as a prince is a thing. Making Jafar into someone who was poor but climbed out of poverty defeats that, because so much of his entitlement and hunger for power came from the fact that he's a rich man who's never known poverty or had to live through what Aladdin has lived through. In a way, his wickedness and cruelty makes the Sultan's neglect of the kingdom and Jasmine's naivety as to life in Agrabah more palatable because we can see they're being shielded from the true state of Agrabah by a fellow blue blood who is actively malicious. Jafar being a streetrat who climbed ranks, however, just kind of comes off as "the actual rich royals were fine until some poor dude who doesn't know his place tricked his way in there." And that's kind of insidious to me. Also Jafar being a military expansionist is pointless and goes nowhere. Like... why did we even bother adding it? Just to say "military expansionism is bad y'all" without actually showing us why or doing anything with it in the story? It's pointless and doesn't serve his character or anyone else in the movie. Also, his attempts to marry Jasmine just come right out of left field in the final act and they completely cut his subplot about plotting to marry Jasmine from earlier in the movie. So it seems like Jafar just gives up his scheming after he loses the lamp until after he figures out Ali is Aladdin which... okay? So much of the things they add to Jafar just feel like it's window dressing designed to create the illusion of depth whilst ultimately being pointless. The writing for him is such a mess, and without a really charismatic actor in the role, there's nothing to hide how clunky it is.
I love the classic Jafar and I was really hoping this version would be at least an interesting alternative on some level, but no. He just sucks =/

11/11/11 #14
I was tagged by the awesome @ccwritesstuff to do yet another one of these, so let's do this! I hope y'all enjoy!
1 - What are your character's alignments?
Most, if not all, are some type of "good." Alayla, Aurora Miller, and Ashton Jones are more towards the True good, aka Neutral Good (look, I know they all have the letter A in their names, alright?). The Guardian, Rachel West, and Sir Chris Percy are the Lawful Good type. Only Raven Doyle and Adam Enders are Chaotic Good.
2 - Which of your characters would you say are chaotic dumbasses?
I'd say that honor would fall to Adam because he doesn't frickin' think sometimes. 😂 Absolutely brilliant military strategist and amazing warrior, but on some occasions he doesn't have a lick of common sense.
3 - What kind of characters do you like writing?
I like to write characters with the traits that I like to see more of in the world. For example, Aurora's main trait is kindness. The Guardian's trait is wisdom, etc.
4 - Who's the most likely character to fall for the Nigerian Prince scam and lose all their money?
The only one who would come close to doing something like that would be Aurora because she's just too nice. 🤣
5 - Which of your characters would burn the kitchen while cooking?
Oh, this is easily Adam. The poor guy's an absolute unit when it comes to combat and warfare, but a whole idiot when it comes to cooking.
6 - What are some of the places in your world your characters often hang out at/in?
It varies from character to character. For Rachel, she loves to go to the starship yard and make repairs on the Axiom. For Sir Chris, he spends his time in the great halls of the Templar bases. For Raven and Aurora, the two of them slowly build their dream house. Adam, however, spends time with the love of his life, Gwen. The Guardian would spend time in libraries and in quiet, secluded areas so she could meditate. Ashton would most likely spend his free time fishing in a creek or going hunting in the woods. And as for Alayla, she doesn't really take time off. She does what she can in order to help the world, but on occasion the other members of the Universal Knights take her to spend free time with them.
7 - Which one of your characters is most likely to pet every dog they see?
While they all easily love dogs, this one has to go to Aurora because she'd probably insist on adopting all of them.
8 - Which one of your characters is most likely lead a coup d'etat against their government?
This one goes to Adam. The beginning of Adam's story revolves around the fact that he - along with all the other members of the Red Thieves - is a wanted criminal. However, he would only do it if he saw that government was deliberately harming innocent people.
9 - What would your characters do if they got lost in the woods?
Again, this one varies. Mostly they would do their best to keep their wits about them.
10 - Which one of your characters is most likely to get kidnapped by the fae?
This one absolutely screams The Guardian. Considering the fact that she's one of the most powerful beings in the Universe and that's she's about the only person capable to wield magic on the levels she can, I have a feeling that they'd probably try to learn more.
11 - Where would your characters go to relax?
The Universal Knights try to relax as much as they can, but they don't get a lot of time to do so, considering that they're the Universe's defenders against bad guys. But, when they do, they usually do something together like going out to eat, or go shopping or something.
Thank you so much for tagging me! Please keep doing so, y'all, I love doing these!

Kevin Cage of @spotlightsaga reviews… GLOW (S01E07) Live Studio Audience Airdate: June 23, 2017 Ratings: @netflix original/Privatized Ratings Score: 9.5/10 TVTime/FB/Twitter/Tumblr/Path: @SpotlightSaga
**********SPOILERS BELOW**********
The greatest thing about pro-wrestling is that it’s literally a live show, anything can go wrong (or horribly right). Even shows like NXT, Lucha Underground, ROH, PWG specials, shows that are filmed, then edited, then sent out as a television series or a digital copy (since DVD’s & even BluRays are becoming obsolete) can go way off script. When improvisation is introduced into the wrestling show, that’s when the magic begins. Recently a troll on FB attacked one of our articles on A&E’s ‘60 Days In’. After a well pieced together article that covered what we thought were 'producer pushed situations’ vs what was occurring naturally in the series (it’s kinda hard to fake an entire REAL jail, considering they need the space), he simply skipped over everything I had written from the heart and wrote one little line, “You know this is fake, right?” He clearly didn’t read it. After my retort, he brought up pro-wrestling… Ah, he done did it now! Any tried & true fan of professional wrestling will defend their sport or 'Sports Entertainment’ (whatever you want to call it) to the death. Of course everything is planned in advance; the moves, the winners, the storylines… But it’s the pageantry, the training, the real risk of physical injury, the freedom that some wrestlers have in their promos, and an array of other variables, that make pro-wrestling so damn great and have seen it survive for well over a century.
'Live Studio Audience’ captures all of that AND MORE. As a matter of fact, we want to go ahead and nominate this very episode as one of the best of the year for a 30 Minute Comedy or Drama. We get it all… The thrill and excitement of the very first GLOW Live Show ever, the anxiety & stage fright that comes with it as we see Machu Picchu (Britney Young) run for the hills without even getting inside the 20x20, a overworked and panicked Bash (Chris Lowell) abandoning the possible financial future of the show to console Carmen in her 'emotional distress’, two women taking a chance - Cherry Bang (Sydelle Noel) & Tammé the Welfare Queen (Kia Stevens) instinctively changing the direction & storyline of their match without anyone else aware of their scheme besides the newly 'white sheet wearing’, transformed 'Beatdown Biddies’, Stacey (Kimmy Gatewood) & Dawn (Rebekka Johnson) - who’s main concern is if Bill Cosby will be mad at them… Literally changing the match from the uber-cliché, women of color beating up on the elderly to two bad ass, strong Black Queens taking on two racist KKK members, signifying the ongoing battle of racism in the United States! The latter had to be one of the best, most outrageous scenes of GLOW to date. And like Sam said, 'I guess you’re never too young to know about this country’s racial history’.
Sam (Marc Maron) was apprehensive of Cherry & Tammé’s surprise changes at first… But by the end of the match he had gained confidence in the women after hearing the crowd of 30 or so erupt into roars the likes of a full house in the broken down gym would sound like. He even hilariously referred to them as 'The Black Panthers’ in what was ironically riveting commentary. All of it accompanied by the same solemn keyboard tune for the entire show thanks to Sheila the She-Wolf (Gayle Rankin), as it was the only song she knew. Suddenly a show that was hitting every pitfall and taking every wrong turn was lighting up all the faces of the rather 'eclectic’ crowd that had turned up for GLOW’s free show. Suddenly everyone from Sam to all the women in the locker room knew that this crazy idea, one that felt like it would never work, could and WOULD come together. They could actually succeed at what they had set out to do!
By 'Main Event’ time, the crowd was literally eating out of the amateurish palm of GLOW’s outstretched hand. The electricity and excitement running through the building that connected the women with their audience was not only palpable, it can literally be seen worn on the faces and demeanor of everyone in the building. Even all of us at home could feel the tv radiating with the GLOW! Truly!!! It all came down to Liberty Belle, the 100% 'sweet as American Apple Pie’, confident and poised symbol of the 'American Way’, Miss Debbie Eagan (Betty Gilpin) vs 'Zoya The Destroya’, the 'Dirty Russian’, who wants to drain your swimming pools and fill them with Borscht, 'Accidental Homewrecker’, Ruth Wilder (Alison Brie). And yes, if any of you are wondering, I totally said that last line out loud as I wrote it in my best Russian 'Zoya The Destroya’ voice. I can’t help but ponder if Alison Brie was inspired by not only the real GLOW Girl she is portraying, Colonel Ninotchka (Lori Palmer), but also WWE’s own modern version, Lana (CJ Perry)… And that just maybe, Lana is inspired by Palmer herself! It fits, that’s for sure… Even on the heels of Rusev, The Bulgarian Brute.
The match is going well, unexpectedly well. Unbeknownst to the other women, Carmen had taken Ruth & Debbie to visit her brothers… Big Kurt (Carlos Colon Jr aka WWE’s Carlito) & Mighty Tom Jackson (George Murdoch aka WWE’s Brodus Clay, TNA’s Tyrus, and even a part-time, humorous, FOX News anchor). The two headlining women had gone to the brothers for help. They wanted to dazzle the crowd and give them more than just basic moves and the great wrestling tradition of Heel vs Babyface, Good vs Evil… They wanted a match that would elevate both GLOW as a show and themselves as performers. After some hilarious misfires, they were ready… And they ran that ring just like they had intended to, just like they had practiced so hard for. Unfortunately, just as 'the unexpected’ can elevate a wrestling program, it can also add unwanted chaos and ruin. Suddenly, Debbie’s soon to be ex-husband and Ruth’s casual, shameful partner in a secret affair, Mark (Rich Sommer) peaked his head out of the crowd and into Debbie’s field of vision. Debbie freezes and runs off into the back to allow Mark to browbeat her while she misses one of the biggest and best opportunities of her career. Obviously, there’s going to be more for Debbie, but this is going to hurt. Dump the douche already, Debbie!
In an attempt to save the main event, or at least stall until Debbie possibly made her triumphant return (which she never did), Ruth continued on in character yelling out hilarious, typical Russian stereotypes at the audience, who actually ate it up for awhile. As it was bound to happen, the audience started to turn on Ruth. They rightfully wanted a big finish to the show that had unexpectedly turned them from bored passerby’s that were sucked into the building in promise of a free show, to GLOW’s first diverse group of fans. Rhonda (Kate Nash) saw her moment to shine. She had been practicing a 'GLOW Rap’ with Sam’s stolen camera that a jealous, vindictive (yet somehow still relatable and sympathetic), Justine (Britt Baron) had stuffed in her locker in an attempt to set her up and get her fired, all for sleeping with the boss. Rhonda climbed in the ring and started to do GLOW’s now infamous pre-show rap that they were notorious for on their real life tv show. First Ruth followed suit, then the rest of the women stormed the ring and joined in… And GLOW was officially born!
I know I’ve taken a lot of your time and should probably end there, but it’s important for me to give credit where credit is due. Not only did Director Jesse Peretz (thank you so much for HBO’s 'Divorce’, Jesse, and btw 'Our Idiot Brother’ is criminally underrated), but 'new-to-the-game’ writer Rachel Shukert was flawless in her writing, dialogue, and scene transitions… You too, Emma Rathbone! Also, this episode was dedicated to the memory of Chavo Guerrero Sr, the father of Armando Guerrero, the man who trained the wrestlers of the original GLOW as well as the world famous Chavo Guerrero Jr, who trained all the actresses of the series… Except for Kia Stevens, y'all. You think WWE’s Kharma or Independent Scene & TNA Knockout Wrestler 'Awesome Kong’ needed training by the great Chavo Guerrero Jr?! Psssh, that woman is talent personified! Thank you, Liz Flahive & Carly Mensch, on behalf of Spotlight Saga and the French-born, now worldwide, burgeoning community of TVTime.com, we LOVE GLOW!

SUSPENDED! GWU Says Jessica Krug Will NOT Teach This Semester After She Admitted To Lying About Being Black
George Washington University has suspended Jessica Krug – an associate professor whose work focuses on Africa and the African dispora – after she admitted to lying about being black. Yep, Rachel Dolezal 2.0. More inside….
We just couldn’t make it through the year without a 2020 version of Rachel Dolezal, huh?
George Washington University has suspended Jessica Krug – an associate professor whose expertise includes Africa, Latin America and African American history – after she admitted to lying about being black.
Before Friday, Jessica (aka Jess LaBombera) claimed to be Afro-Latina. Turns out, she’s a self-described 38-year-old “white Jewish woman from Kansas.” The blackfish of it all!
In a blog post published on Medium, Jessica came clean about her blackfishing ways.
”For the better part of my adult life, every move I’ve made, every relationship I’ve formed, has been rooted in the napalm toxic soil of lies,” she began the admission.
”To an escalating degree over my adult life, I have eschewed my lived experience as a white Jewish child in suburban Kansas City under various assumed identities within a Blackness that I had no right to claim: first North African Blackness, then US rooted Blackness, then Caribbean rooted Bronx Blackness,” she wrote.
The disgraced professor admitted she had no right to claim any of these identities.
” I have not only claimed these identities as my own when I had absolutely no right to do so — when doing so is the very epitome of violence, of thievery and appropriation, of the myriad ways in which non-Black people continue to use and abuse Black identities and cultures — but I have formed intimate relationships with loving, compassionate people who have trusted and cared for me when I have deserved neither trust nor caring. People have fought together with me and have fought for me, and my continued appropriation of a Black Caribbean identity is not only, in the starkest terms, wrong — unethical, immoral, anti-Black, colonial — but it means that every step I’ve taken has gaslighted those whom I love.”
You can read her shocking admission in full here.
In a statement, George Washington University announced Ms. Krug – who preciously worked at Duke University - would not teach classes this semester. They acknowledged “many students, faculty, staff and alumni are hurting” and that they are reviewing the case.

Chile…
According to chatter on Twitter, Jessica revealed the truth after a Black Latina junior scholar called her out on her ish. Dr. Yomaira Figueroa - an associate professor of Afro Diaspora Studies at Michigan State University – shed some light on how it all came about.
The only reason Jessica Krug finally admitted to this lie is bec on Aug 26th one very brave very BLACK Latina junior scholar approached two senior Black Latina scholars & trusted them enough to do the research & back her up. Those two scholars made phone calls & reached out to...
— Dr. YoFiggy (@DrYoFiggy) September 3, 2020
"The only reason Jessica Krug finally admitted to this lie is bec on Aug 26th one very brave very BLACK Latina junior scholar approached two senior Black Latina scholars & trusted them enough to do the research & back her up,” she tweeted. "Those two scholars made phone calls & reached out to other senior scholars & institutions with proof. There was no witch hunt, but there was a need to draw the line,” she continued.
"Krug got ahead of the story because she was caught & she knew the clock was ticking bec folks started to confront her & ask questions."
that she would have come out with the truth on her own. She made a living & a whole life out of parroting Black Rican trauma and survival. As a Black Rican I am PISSED. The other thing is that, let historians tell it, her work is actually good, chick is smart- so why lie?

she has taken, everything she has gained, all that she stole by creating this identity & shrouding herself with Black & Latinx folks who defended, supported, and lifted her up. What does restitution look like when she won awards, grants, & fellowships for underrepresented folks?

A now-former friend of Jessica’s, Hari Ziyad, also insisted Jessica only confessed because she had been caught.
I apologize to the friends who I gaslighted by insisting she wasn't who they knew she was.
And I apologize to all who gate-keep Blackness. I've always said gate-keeping is okay and valid. I was wrong. Gate-keeping is good and necessary.

"She didn't do it out of benevolence," Hari tweeted. "She did it because she had been found out."
Jess Krug, professor at @GWtweets, is someone I called a friend up until this morning when she gave me a call admitting to everything written here. She didn't do it out of benevolence. She did it because she had been found out.https://t.co/kSNkVUzbtM

A whole lot of uninformed people gonna be spouting that take that Jessica Krug proves Black people have advantages, when all it exposes is what we’ve always known — lighter and fairer-skinned black folks are more valued because of their proximity to whiteness.

She deleted her Tinder so I can't show y'all, and I know none of y'all will believe this actually happened, but I matched with Jessica Krug -- the white woman pretending to be Black -- on Tinder a couple years back and she went in on me for not caring about Black people enough.

Turns out that online AfroLatina activist Jess La Bombera from the Bronx is actually real-life culture vulture & white woman Jessica Krug from Kansas.

Jessica Krug’s story is identical to former Spokane NAACP chapter president Rachel Dolezal’s blackfighing story from 2015. Now, she's Rachel Dolezal 2.0 and no one asked for it.
Do black women (or anyone for that matter) have a right to be outraged? Or are we just being too “emotional?"

10 Anti LO Asks
1. u know the few years they cant see each other is both so theres no actual punishment but also so persephone is technically in her mid 20s when they officially ~get married~ and now rachel can claim she totally wasnt a creep for making persephone so borderline underage as opposed to just ... making her not a teenager in the first place. p much every writing choice in LO now is rachel desperately trying to retcon her past bad writing choices but it's so obvious it's almost laughable.
2. so the "big punishment" is hades has to wait til persephone can legally drink and rent a car on her own before he can tie her down to being his trophy wife and knocking her up? good to know the thousands who died senseless, painful deaths got their "justice" in being a minor inconvenience for these two.
3. lo fans praising hades for not being a r//pist is funnier when you realize rachel very purposely took hades' actual mythology and pinned it on another character to demonize him purely because hades is that awful in mythology in terms of his relationship with persephone and she couldnt just be normal about it. like literally lo apollo's crimes in comic are myth hades' actual doing. it's crazy they dont connect the dots or even do a basic google search and realize how bad they sound.
4. That baby Persephone crying being gifted with wrath frame is the ugliest thing I've seen in LO in a long time
5. Apollo and Artemis are Zeus's children oh my god I can't believe it blah blah blah. Okay. So Rachel insists on dressing people in 18th century-esque gowns when talking about the time Leto and Hera were friends. Some people here didn't like it, but I think it's fine. However. Wtf is up with Zeus's shirt when he's shown kissing Leto, her outfit resembles vaguely antique undergarments, but his shirt is just a modern-ass shirt!! What the hell is going on with the fashion?
6. rachel must be sobbing her eyes out that now persephone might be like 23 when she marries hades, she's basically ancient by that age. everyone knows youre an old maid by 21 and persephone would lose valuable years to give hades his desirable amount of clones for himself. it's absolutely tragic. whatever will they do.
7. well of course hades would be upset over not being able to see persephone for a certain amount of years. she'll age out of his age range.
8. Don't read the webtoon whatsoever but I'm reading all these fast pass mentions and y'all have to be pulling my leg. They all sound so bad??? The trial outcome??? And how Persephone was made??? 100 roses?? Double beauty?? Her act of wrath, the 1 thing that was supposed to lead up to her supposed dread Queen status, wasn't even her fault?????? Y'all are kidding right???? This is legit?????
Holy fuck, why does webtoon keep promoting this, why do the fans try so hard to defend this, this whole series is actual garbage
9. ngl, I love how in trying to giving persephone a ~tragic backstroy~ to explain her actions rachel instead strip her of literally any and every thing she could have had to even pretend to be a character. she has no intelligence of her own, she's only beautiful on a fluke, she has no kindness, and even her ambitions/emotions arent even her own! it's telling us without this, persephone is staler than a piece of old bread. this is exactly how to NOT develop a character. truly impressive on RS' part.
10. not to bring up PJO but with hades and maria there was conflict in them being separated because she's mortal and thus time spent together was more important because of how limited her life was, but LO trying to pull that too between two immortals is like?? get over yourselves?? also in PJO there was years of having a relationship and kids involved, meanwhile in LO they've legit only known each other a month. rachel wants the emotional reaction with none of the actual stakes/work put into  it.

10 Anti LO Asks
1. Leto being the literal Goddess of Motherhood and yet being a villain is pretty on the nose as to why LO constantly shits on every good mother figure like her and Demeter, unless they can be used to to give Hades man-pain over.
2. so much of the fashion in LO is like ... anti drip. there are occasional good outfits but most of the time its the same generic white dresses or black suits and thats it, or its some weird dated fashion from the 80s or 60s. these are supposed to be powerful gods with all the riches in the world yet none of them have heard of patterns, color, or even basic accessories.
3. I think RS is genuinely convinced she's "making the Gods Realistic™️" when it's like? The Greek Gods? The pantheon that's been well known for being complicated beings with very human flaws since 900 BC? They're in need for some random Kiwi woman who is more knowledgable on 90s anime to "fix" mythology and make it "realistic"? RS making Hera a cheater, making them have divine racism/classism, making Apollo a r//pist, Persephone worthless w/o Hades etc etc only breaks the myths!
4. LO stans are genuinely such awful and obnoxious people. They argue that LO is a retelling so 'of course it's not going to be faithful to the myth!'  and when people, especially Greeks, say it's disrespecting their culture and gods, the stans get upset?? That their uwu shitty story is getting critiqued? By the people who it's profiting off of???
I literally saw someone reply to this point with 'then those people (greeks) can just choose not to read LO!' followed up with, and I kid you not, 'there's also bible fanfiction, just saying 🤷🏻‍♀️' like as if that somehow absolves LO and it's whole plot and characters.
Some also say that multiple other series based off of the Greek mythology don't get as much flak for being a retelling (like Percy Jackson and Hades game) and like idk what to tell y'all except these other series also get equally critiqued, as everything does, but the fact that it doesn't get as hugely lambasted as LO does means they're not half as offensive as it is. (it's also already been mentioned multiple times too that PJO's author tries his best to learn from his mistakes in the series)
I basically just hate how LO stans will defend RS and her story and think our valid concerns and critiques are just mindless attacks on her.
Casual LO fans are cool though, this isn't aimed at you guys cause I know some of y'all come here and actually like to discuss/talk about the series, flaws and all.
5. -le me, watching witchtok on yt
-the video is "best of witchtok part 5" uploaded by "your witchy cousin", around the 7 minute mark
-witch with persephone as her patron, talking about how persephone is not to be messed with because she's a terrifying Goddess if needed be. proceeds to say "this is not lore olympus, people"
-me, putting my phone aside and crying in my room
i hate lore olympus so much it's unreal
6. Rachel also clearly doesn't know mythology because how can Hecate be such a major character in this and yet has zero connection to Apollo or Artemis, who in mythology is her full blooded cousins? Apollo even had epithets making him as similar to Hecate (with some versions seeming to imply Hecate and Apollo were lovers, but w/e) and Hecate and Artemis both being maiden moon goddesses who were also divine midwives. How can she claim to be so well researched when these connections are missing?
7. Minthe isn't a nice character, but I find it so disturbing how RS, the fans, and even WT love just making fun of her trauma and watching her suffer for?? Reasons?? If anyone said Persephone was overreacting to how Demeter overprotects her, they'd say you're condoning abuse and an awful person, but it's a marketing tactic to mock Minthe for being cheated on, manipulated and used by Hades, and laughing that she's been phsyically crippled and left as a plant for the rest of her life. Like WTF?
8. Ok, so, wait, Persephone the 'Dread Queen" is perfectly fine to threaten and cripple nymphs and kill humans for her lack of control of her anger issues, but she shoots down the idea to punish her literal R//PIST? is this supposed to be some 'she's the bigger person here" thing? so random humans are supposed to die, but an actual sexual abuser is supposed to just get a slap on the wrist at best? why cant she be allowed to be angry and want revenge on him for that?  i dont understand.
9. IDK what you lot mean LO isn't good rep. I, as an NB person, am delighted the only NB rep in LO is the same person who made sure Hades can't have kids. I will happily take pride in the fact my own kin made sure that capitalist slave owner can never have his one dream realized.  Thank you for this, Rachel.
-----FP Spoilers/Mention-----
10. FP Spoilers Chapter 187: I can't stand how Hera shows not even a hint of remorse about having gone behind Demeter's back like she did. She's Demeter's sister for god's sake, she must have known how horrified Demeter was about Persephone potentially getting taken advantage of for her powers. Which, as we see in this very episode, was a very reasonable fear to have. And yet Hera still put Persephone into a prime positon to get groomed by Hades, helped cover up her disappearance and never challenged either Zeus or Hades about their treatment of her niece beyond some token scolding that gets brushed aside as easy as that. Demeter deserves a better sister.

10 Anti LO Asks
1. ok im sorry you cannot post that thanatos and daphne panel and not tell me that isnt just hxp with hades painted a different color. thats like insulting bad in how lazy the art as become. also thats not how a kiss works, where did his mouth go?
2. i dont care if an artist draws their characters nude and w/ greek gods its kinda expected but its a purposely put in design feature and characterization and plot point in LO that persephone is barely legal with her age always being emphasized, is constantly sexualized without her knowledge esp by hades, and looks so young w/ several times of her just being naked while possible being a minor. like no wonder people get creeped out by LO even at first glance, that IS weird no matter how you cut it.
3. webtoon creators making nsfw work of their comics is not an issue lmao the problem in rachel's case is most of it is overwhelming about persephone being submissive and confused and even having hades call her a "little girl" and having it as the logo??? like if its behind a paywall thats one thing, but just cutting off the lower part and having it in print where kids can see it and disguising the context is disgusting. its not right, but i can see why some have some concerns about RS's character.
4. i know if it happens it wont be for awhile but god, the webtoons batman comic they put up is already up LO's butt and steadily climbing. If it actually pushes LO off it's top spot i'll be so happy. Not the hero we deserve but the hero we need. (PS its a good comic too, go read it even if you're not a DC fan!)
5. the LO porn rachel made wasnt even good lmao like a lot of was just uncomfortable to look at bc only hades seemed to be enjoying it and the other half just seemed traced from actual tumblr porn gifs so it just looked even weirder with her cartoon faces, like it was just weird? anyway congrats to rachel to somehow making even 4chan think she's gross. they literally invented bronies and even think that is weird.
6. I went to check out the reviews for the LO book preorder and they're all so funny to me because it's just so fake????? Tell me who the hell would call this story a delicacy. I'm not joking. One of the reviews literally calls it that.
I hate it. Anyway. Punderworld volume 1 is available to buy so buy that instead of LO y'all
7. fr the more i learn about the most popular creators on webtoons (not just rachel but ppl like the ladies behind lets play and age matters and basically all of the romance genre) the more im convinced being a straight white lady rots your brain. yall stay safe out there because none of you will be seeing the gates of heaven ✋🏾😷
-----FP Spoilers-----
8. Making Themis pregnant made lo and mythology timline dont much up, bc themis was one of zeus's first wife(i think second) but bc their kids were looking undesireble he break up with her, but didnt mistreat her like metis, but he gave her this job as a law goddes, and later marry hera. So if she is pregnant and she have only kids with zeus this would mean that he and hera would be couple for not too long, but their kids are older and in flashbacks it was shown that hera was his first choice.
9. The reason actually Law gods/goddesses are gone is cause reasonable people with any kind of morals will be against Persephone. Even if they're getting paid by the richest guy in the world to defend her.   Only those who have not only drank the HXP Kool aid, but have downed an entire bowl of it through a funnel like a sorority girl at a frat party will be allowed to defend her. As is right of course. No contrary opinions about HXP are allowed in LO, lest you be labeled a villain by our Gaslight Gatekeep Girlboss Queen and her Mansplain Manipulate Manwhore King. All Hail HXP. #Asspollo
10. um im sorry, even ignoring how dumb of an excuse "maternity leave" is bc shes a goddess why would they need time off, but like??? you really mean to tell me it wouldnt be badass to show a working mom bring her baby to work to defeat zeus at this own game??? like wouldnt that be actually feminist and show the power of women?? rachel sucks so bad at being "progressive".
From OP, not anon: Themis is currently pregnant.
