every time i see people insisting demeter was overprotective or overbearing or even outright abusive i want to gnaw my hands off
#i'm going to slam my head through a brick wall. demeter in the original myth wasn't being 'overprotective'#she was mourning the KIDNAPPING!! of her daughter#ik you all want hades to be your bad boy husband so bad i know you're desperate for the goth/prep dynamic or whatever#but please PLEASEEEEEE this irritates me in a way i can't fully explain#i just... i don't know. something about making retelling after retelling that ignores the misogyny and violence of the original feels#wrong. it just doesn't sit right to me#i'm not the authority on the matter nor am i suggesting we cancel everyone making persephone and hades into a healthy relationship#but i just... i wish it wasn't at the expense of demeter. i wish so much the misogyny of the original myth (and the culture that made it)#could be fucking ADDRESSED instead of just adding a whole different type of misogyny by making demeter the jealous bitch who won't let#hades get some actions or whatever#benny.exe
