have a dark mdtb idea which i'm not sure i want/can write, so i'm letting it out into the wild because i highly probably won't write it:

tobirama is aware madara is about to desert the village and he can't let that happen. he tells himself it's because of the still fragile peace and for the sake of the village, but in truth it's mostly for hashirama. his anija will never be the same if madara leaves. tobirama can't have that - his brother's happiness comes before all else

so he gives kagami (who's a bit older here because i said so but also because the founders' timeline is extremely wonky as it is anyway) an important mission: use the kotomatsukami on madara to make him stay in the village. the kotomatsukami is an unbreakable genjutsu - it will work

for it work perfectly tho, madara needs a good reason why to stay, an anchor so to speak. and hashirama can't be it - he's married and has his kids and his focus will inevitably be mostly on his family. tobirama fears of what madara might do because of the "curse of hatred" he so strongly believes in, fears madara might try to get rid of mito and the kids in order to have hashirama's full attention

no, tobirama can't risk that. so he "sacrifices" himself as the anchor. it goes uh... into a direction he didn't anticipate. but it's fine! it's fine, madara isn't bad-looking and tobirama can't say he dislikes having this much power over madara. oh, on the contrary even

kagami is... not doing well. sensei said it's for the sake of peace, it's for the village and he knows sometimes sacrifices must be made for the greater good. sensei taught him so and he trusts sensei. but... he just can't look madara in the eyes anymore, always only too aware of what he did to his clan head

madara? madara is aware something is off. but. but it's fine? something is definitely off but it's fine because he has tobirama at his side so there is nothing to worry about, he's happy and hashirama is happy, overjoyed even, his dreams have all come true and as long anija is happy, tobirama is fucking happy too

all is fucking well in this motherfucking little paradise full of lies and everyone is just peachy. it's perfect and tobirama will make sure it stays so
