Excellent, excellent Trey takes! Love the bit about how Malleus' magic warps the intent of the desires because he only has so much insight. He may be magically powerful but you simply can't make everybody happy without their input. It will always, ALWAYS get warped.

And these tags: #also wanna note that the fact Trey broke out of his own dream by remembering the wants and needs of his actual dorm mates is#just#so painfully in character I honestly loved this. Because he wants the freedom to do what he wants but also... genuinely, truly loves his friends. "Love has nothing to do with it" he says in his Labwear vignette when talking about the effort going into his gardening>baking but... in THIS vignette we see he's been rebuffed and put at arms length enough times (by Riddle being cold and different upon joining NRC, by Cater sometimes being distant bystander due to his baggage) that he probably does not feel comfortable openly expressing that care, at least not with words. So he relegates it to his actions and hopes that's enough. In this dream he cranks that up to 11. Yes, things are more at ease and he CAN speak more freely, but a dream isn't going to get rid of old habits. So he leans even harder into it because he can do all the hobby baking and experimentation he wants AND please his friends. Win-win, right? But when he realizes the response of his friends doesn't align with what he knows about them--that forcing themselves to eat what he makes would NOT make them happy--it clearly resonates. He's intimately familiar with pushing one's self to placate others and doesn't wish that on someone else, much less people he cares about. Like. Trey is not perfect, and yes a lot of what he does is done to keep the peace and that can be a detriment to himself and others. But he clearly has a deep empathy for the people he cares about. Maybe he doesn't always do something with it, but he feels it. And I really, TRULY hope he finds the balance between being able to express that AND saving enough energy and time for himself to be able to do what he wants and dodge burnout.
