#i honestly think geoff's only motivation in changing barry's backstory was to make him more edgy honestly

Despite everything, I don't think Barry is good because of what happened to his mother? and I guess I'm the only one who thinks killing Nora is more about Thawne than Barry himself. "look what a psycho wow wow awesome crazy villain lol" because geoff likes this kind of stuff I think. And to make flashpoint happen ofc. Buccellato and Manapul dealed with post Flashpoint!Barry and his mama issues very well but lately (or after they left) Barry became so depressed especially in Rebirth it's so ooc
Yeah kinda what i just posted-- he’s not good because of what happened to his mother. he’s good in spite of it. i do think that geoff re-did barry’s childhood just to make it more “interesting” to their typical readers (and.. usually.. that involves killing off women 🙃 fuck off dc) and to make “plain ol barry allen” into a character that’s more edgy.
thawne was already a crazy villain. look at wally’s run where thawne literally got plastic surgery to look like barry and tried to take his place. he’s been certifiably insane for a long time. geoff didn’t need to kill barry’s mom to solidify thawne as one of dc’s most horrifying villains. he already was.
im kinda neutral about rebirth flash i guess.. some issues have been ok (the arc with the rogues was alright?? at first.. then got boring & predictable.. like most of williamson’s writing) but most have just been forgettable tbh.. the only reason i’m reserving judgment is because i know that hal is gonna pop up in late may/early june and i’ll have to eat my words if i call flash rebirth a total and complete fail... it’s definitely better than the shitpile that occurred when booth and venditti took over after manapul in the sense that it isn’t super ooc?? but idk.. i think it’s probably normal for a dude to think about his dead mom who he loved a lot and had a lot of influence on the type of person he is but venditti did overkill it a bit.. williamson seems to be handling it kinda ok, just in a very boring way..
that was kinda rambly sorry i’m sorta out of it rn

I once read a character study on Barry and Eobard stating that Eobard could easily become the Flash. He had wealthy and normal family, had good education and everything he could ask for while Barry, after Eobard changed the timeline, went through lots of shit. He could easily turn into a villain due to anger against the world. This is so true and I guess this is what makes Barry so awesome and someone to look up to. That's why he is hope.
honestly barry allen is the strongest most “good” character that dc has. before n52 he had a normal life, didn’t have any tragic backstory motivating him and he still became a hero not because he feels guilty for not being able to save his mom, but just because he wants to help people. he was pretty much the only dc character without a tragic backstory until geoff came in and i think that says a lot about his character. barry has all the reason to be pissed off at the world for all the shit he’s had to endure but it’s only made him more kind, more patient, more motivated to help people. he’s literally the embodiment of hope and im so proud of him my son
