I think this is one of the defining differences between Makoto and Hinata; they both have inferiority complexes about how ordinary and talentless they are, but Makoto has coping mechanisms that he uses in order to deal with it instead of being consumed (absent of any trauma or awful experiences that exacerbates his negative feelings, of course). Still, him "just accepting it" is kind of sad, because it shows with how he thinks of himself in his introduction (he's almost casual with putting himself down) and how every so often he calls himself/his life boring when others take an interest in something he has to say or something he's experienced. Even if he can cope with his complex, Makoto's self-esteem is still somewhat middling...
