🐳 here, thank you for the kind words and also re. your question - I know nothing about whales beyond what I remember from the 4 month whaling unit we did in 3rd grade but I think they’re neat and the emoji is cute! giraffes are pretty slay too though (and I think it’s good to indulge your 7 year old self at any possible moment <3)
hello again! even if you don't know a lot about whales, your whaling unit is more whale education than I ever got. I don't actually know a lot about the ocean or it's creatures, living in a mountainous desert kinda skewed the units towards different things.
I looked up some whale facts though, and apparently they're divided into two different groups: baleen vs toothed whales. Some of them have teeth and some of them do not have teeth. Apparently dolphins are classified in the whale family as well. Killer whales often travel in matrifocal groups. oh damn I forgot narwhals existed for a hot minute those dudes are pretty funky. Narwhal means corpse whale and was derived from Old Norse? Nice!
Anyway, I do still hold a fondness for giraffes even if they're no longer my favorite; I simply spent so long loving them I can't let them go. I've got a giraffe onesie and a litttle stuffie (gifted to me by my partner) that I named Moo. No two giraffes have the same spot pattern, they sleep standing up, it's theorized their tongues are purple/black as UV protection from the sun, their pregnancies last 15 months, and they only need to drink water every few days because most of their water comes from vegetation--and drinking water is awkward and makes them vulnerable because it's difficult to reach the ground, so they'll stay in groups so another can keep a look out while they drink.
Idk what it is about them, but little me absolutely latched onto them and refused to let them go, and I am more than happy to indulge her :)
