~Wings, hearts, some things are meant to be torn apart
Faith, hope, some things are meant to be gone broke~
DO NOT STEAL/REPOST MY ART.
Update: So @nefarious-616-necromancer stole my art and is trying to claim that all art on their blog is theirs. They're also saying that they have "permission" from the original artists to repost the art they stole. If you see their posts, screenshot the evidence, contact the actual artists and report them. They delete comments and block anyone who tries to credit the actual artists or asks them to show proof that they created the art in the first place.
Fuck people like this. /end Update
Palette taken from the cover of Lewis Blisset's Killing Butterflies.
I had a lot of fun with this one. Probably my fave piece that I've done so far.

[I.D. Two drawings of Baxter Stockman from TMNT 2003. He wears a yellow v neck sweater and has orange glasses frames in both. In the first drawing he frowns with concentration, sticking out his tongue as he stares at a purple seed in his palm (the kind that Draxum uses to create vines) and gestures with his other hand. A small purple vine stems from the seed. In the second drawing, he moves his arm outward and the vine shoots up, curling over his head. He looks at it excitedly and says "Yes, yes!!" End I.D.]
I've decided, building on this post, after Stockman is told that manipulating vines is really hard and takes a super long time to learn that he decides to teach himself how to do it out of spite. Man is about 3 seconds away from losing control and sending that vine through his ceiling <3
#image described#tmnt 2003#2003 baxter stockman#tmnt 2k3#tmnt baxter stockman#teenage mutant ninja turtles#tmnt#scientists testing evil mutagens#stem au#tag ramble time: i cant figure out how to draw his actual canon glasses and make them look nice so i went with orange frames#idk i like giving him bright colors (and it fits better with the energy of the rise universe i feel like)#but also. they were so annoying to draw. because i accidentally drew them on the regular lineart layer#well i drew one pair on the wrong layer and then went 'screw it i'm just merging the glasses down' Bad Decision#cause when i had to recolor them to make sure they actually stood out against his skin i couldnt do my normal 'recolor the whole layer'#(hit protect alpha and fill tool the whole layer so it takes like 3 seconds)#no i had to go in and carefully reline them. it wasnt that long but it was way longer than it wouldve taken if i hadnt messed up my layers#anyway his glasses are awful and i hate them (affectionate) (they're fine they're just tricky to draw)#and that's my tag ramble ig hope you enjoyed if you actually read it for some reason lmao

POV you're a betta fish in an already shitty tank and some annoying asshole is trying to get your attention
Short little cute little Scout animation WIP I am working on....... Perchance I am enjoying animating, mayhaps... I had to do a whole project for my class and make an animation (I'm a studio art major, so liek I am just somewhat tech skilled and can use photoshop jussstttt well enough but I know little to nothing, the most animation experience I have was me at 14 making frames one by one in CSP and throwing them into EZgif one at a time LOL) and it was liek super frustrating at first but after seeing the final result I was actually like "you know what.... perchance this is cool..." So hes gonna have a little talking textbox visual novel moment. I also wanted to animate because I watched Quazzies Lil' Pootis FINALLY and it has my whole heart mannnn
OH also I LITERALLY accidentally deleted the fucking file for the Scount one because of COURSE I did, BUT I saved all the initial frames so not all is lost!!! Sobbing tho, my lief is soooooo hard...
I am still working on that comic from forever ago, and I actually plan to make it into a screen print given I have enough time and bookbind it into a physical comic LOL.
If anyone is curious... This is the animation I was working on for my class. The actual lineart wasn't an issue, it's just that my dumbass didn't clean the keys enough and like it worked as a sketch but not as an outline, and I was lazy and didn't want to redo them (but I did eventually w.e.) This is my character Joey Hottdog..... He hates his dad and he is a sigma loner emo in a normie world... I always wanted a cartoon of him and so I made a Cartoon network style TV bumper... I used Clip Studio Paint to make all the frames, and then Opentoonz (free animation software, it's zupah cool) to put it all together.
I hope that people enjoy my little rambles, tbh it's really fun to ramble I wish more people did it becoz I look at my mutuals (or just anyones) stuff and I liek love it all and I wanna hear people talk about their stuff or maybe I am cray-zee

Привет, Человек-мотылек!
My aunt introduced me to Astonishing Legends a couple nights ago, and so far I really like the podcast it's great, I watched all of the Mothman ones so far (that I knew of, I found out this morning there's a part 5) and while listening started drawing this lil fella.
I thought the whole thing was super interesting, I loved all the tangents, and most interestingly I tried to look into the 2013 show they mentioned, following the similar stories in Dalnegorsk. They mentioned it being entirely in Russian and hey, whaddya know, I'm trying to learn Russian anyways and figured it would help since I'm already interested in this topic and it would keep me engaged. Couldn't find it (I searched as well as I could, maybe I was using the wrong keywords, I couldn't find it in their show notes sadly, if you happen to know about it/have a link or something I would be thrilled to know) but I did make this art so! That's cool! I wanted to make him a little more detailed but also wanted it to kind of speak for itself? So I stuck with this.
Because I drew this up while listening, I very much took after the descriptions I was hearing with this design. He's kind of like a bird-man?? In a lot of the descriptions??? So I tried to combine bird and moth traits here. I love the neck fluff, any day I don't have to draw a jawline is a good day in my book, and I believe as they were going through the Dalnegorsk story one account mentioned bird-like feet with one toe on the back. Originally I actually skipped that, but it came up as I was doing the lineart so I went "oh that's a neat detail," and yeah, it looks better. At like the very end I gave him a second pair of little mothy arms on his back because they're cute and I figured moths have six legs Mothman can have four arms. Every description I saw specified big muscular legs, not skinny bird legs, So of course, I did my best.
Definitely in the Dalnegorsk part, they mention he just, gave them a sad look and it compelled them to back off, which didn't do much for the art in truth, but I found that very very interesting and sort of entertaining to think about. You got this big scary bird fella and instead of attacking them or scaring them he just pulled at their heartstrings, because he could.
Also complaining about folks exploring the mountain was kinda funny
Admittedly, I have a very love-hate relationship with drawing bird feet, because on one hand they don't come very easily to me, but on the other, they look really cool and I enjoy when they turn out good. This is one of those cases, at least in my opinion, where I do think they look nice.
All in all I love how this turned out, very big fan. Regarding the Russian up top, I also saw Молерот used for Mothman as it's shorter, but looking for more context almost everything I did see using it was Fallout-related, so I figured I'd just use Человек-мотылек as it at least seems to mostly bring up stuff about The Mothman Prophecies and some other stuff at least somewhat related to him. Not that the Fallout stuff isn't, I suppose, but that feels more like an offshoot in my mind.
If you have any tips (or learning resources that don't involve me paying for a subscription I'll hardly use- books, free stuff, etc) I'd be thrilled to hear it. So far I'm not having too hard of a time, though, the hardest part is the special characters so far but otherwise I'd say I'm doing well by my own standards.

revolutionary girl utena characters as their real ages (1/?)
commission me here! and u can find more of my art in my art tag #fartposting
heyyy!!!! so i'm working through the block, still trying to finish old wips, and consistently, the thing that keeps me working on these is just letting myself be messy. i hate hate hate having to have super polished art, especially lineart, so i was like, if i'm going to be able to work on this and finish it, i've gotta just throw that out the window. and i think it looks pretty cool! i enjoy it!
the background was kind of just a bunch of miscellaneous improvised shapes. i tend toward those bar-like rows of rods in the background when i do this + some kind of dark framing shape, but this time i was actually going for the like ruins of the duelgrounds. also, i've started drawing characters with really big ears and it is very artistically satisfying for me like i don't know why, but utena had so much hair in this drawing i decided it looked better and less confusing if her ears were just covered. also, i forgot about her boys' uniform shdjshdjshd i was so focused on just other aspects of the piece that i just looked up the regular girls' uniform as a ref, but i think it kind of suits the vibe of this painting. to me, this is like, young utena standing up for someone being bullied so it has this childlike desperate, slightly scrappy feeling about it; the boys' uniform feels more polished and princely to me. i think that was the motivation behind all the hair too. i'm not a girl, but when i was a kid i was known for having a lot of very long thick hair. i would've been younger than utena is in the series, but i think there's sort of an association with childhood there
#rgu#sku#revolutionary girl utena#shojo kakumei utena#shoujo kakumei utena#utena tenjou#art#fanart#sketch#digital art#no id#tenjou utena#fartposting#ALSO i know it's intentional that they look older than they are i know it's part of the metaphor i just thought this would be fun#just in case

What's your comic writing process like? I'm starting to get into making my own comics and I really admire your work!!! Any advice?
Ah, intrepid traveler, you've done well to journey to this secluded mountaintop spire, in search of the answers you seek. I indeed can provide such forbidden comicmancy knowledge... at the cost of your mortal soul...
coughs. anyway, I'm going to warn you immediately that what works for me does not work for everyone else, and in my experience the way I do things can prove very slow and discouraging for anyone who is more interested in the actual "drawing the damn comic" part of the process. I only do it this way because I enjoy weaving a narrative web that feels not only fully contained but re-readable, but my projects are often so long and my memory so shitty that I can't just keep all of it in my head! It would spill all over the place and make a really embarrassing mess of brain-juice. Not ideal.
but as for my own process, uhh... I suppose a comic would be fitting, right?

a little choppy but you get the idea.
as for turning words into art, I've been experimenting with figuring out the best way to do that for a little while now. Originally what I was doing for something like Ad Astra Per Aspera was to take my "script" and sketch it out on paper very loosely, before transposing that onto my canvas and working from there:
...but, I've found that can make it kind of difficult to space everything around on your standard page-size, and the thing I'm having the most problems with currently seems to be finding the sweet spot of panel-size proportions. So, I've taken to printing out standard thumbnail templates (you can just find these on google) and sketching very tiny panels in those, which seems to give me a slightly better sense of scale... (mild chapter 5 spoilers, sorry ad astra fans)
but I have yet to totally pull through on this, so who knows, maybe I'll try something else in the future!
As for advice, this is probably most applicable to me, but as a disabled artist I have a very hard time managing my workload without literally working myself into injury. I don't think I talked about this publicly but when I was working on that ten year anniversary comic I was literally drawing every single day for 3 solid months. Sometimes, in my case, I really can't bring myself to stop once I've latched onto an idea, and sometimes I find the most rewarding thing I can do with my time is to draw- but I seriously cannot overstate: Do not fucking do this.
You will fuck up your wrist, your back, your neck, your eyes, and probably your mental health. It's a well-known fact that mangaka have a lower life expectancy than the average japanese person due to the intense workload imposed on them by deadlines and personal expectations. Comics are a very demanding artform, and even though I'm not on any sort of mandated schedule there are times where I've toiled away at something when I likely should have been exercising or taking vision-breaks. Therefore the best advice I can give you is to chill the hell out.
Namely, find parts of the process you can be lazy about, and embrace the laziness! You don't like digitally sketching? Don't do it! Skip it, or maybe find a way to traditionally sketch things out in advance like I do. Hate lineart? Don't fucking do it. You really don't feel like wasting your time writing 72k words of comic scripts? ...then, don't be like me. skip that part. I'm a flawed human being and what works for me might not work for you.
The second most important piece of advice I could give is to read comics. Of all kinds. The reason for this is pretty self explanatory: In order to figure out your own comic-making style, you should first pick out bits and pieces from the artist's buffet to add to your plate. Manga, graphic novels, american comics, european comics, weird niche little webcomics, funny papers, anything and everything. This advice rings true of pretty much any art form, but I find it to be essential to honing comic-making skills because so many things you feel will just come intuitively often don't. and that's okay! nobody is born knowing how to leave space for speech bubbles or shape their panels in a way that imitates stretches of time. The best way to figure out stuff like this, in my experience, is to study the "masters", and then after becoming well accustomed to the basics, figure out what rules you want to bend or break to create your own style.
I consider myself to be in equal parts a writer and an artist, which lends itself well to making narrative comics, but maybe you're a bit more of an artist and want to focus on panel-by-panel visual storytelling. Or, conversely, maybe your talents lean closer towards writing, and the art itself is more of a secondary skill. Regardless of your unique blend of talents you can and should make a comic, you should just also be aware of your strengths and try to hone in on those- there will always be opportunities to build up skills you lack, but focusing on what you do best will always lead you in the right direction.
Anyway, that being said, here are some recommendations in no particular order:
Monster, Naoki Urasawa (!!)
Bone, Jeff Smith
Witch Hat Atelier, Kamome Shirahama
The first IDW run of Transformers comics (namely More Than Meets the Eye and Lost Light)
Persepolis, Marjane Satrapi (!!)
Through the Woods, Emily Carroll (really any Emily Carroll comics)
Kill Six Billion Demons (webcomic) (!!)
Akira, Katsuhiro Otomo
The Third Person, Emma Grove
Tintin, Hergé (can be super racist please be wary)
Dungeon Meshi, Ryoko Kui
Calvin & Hobbes, Bill Watterson
Maus, Art Spiegelman
Cucumber Quest (webcomic)
Jellyfish Princess, Akiko Higashimura
Golden Kamuy, Satoru Noda (!!)
Note that I did not grow up with manga so I am seriously behind on a lot of extremely influential japanese comics such as Dragon Ball, One Piece, basically any of the original Shonen Jump comics, but they're widely considered building blocks of the genre so if you love the artform I think you should give them a try! Same goes for classic non-shonen manga genres like various Shoujo, Josei, Yuri, Gekiga, ETC.
same as above applies to a lot of classic DC and Marvel works, I unfortunately am just not a big fan of superhero comics... but I'm sure there's good stuff in there. a couple of my mutuals talk about booster gold and the blue beetle all the time so I'm assuming there has to be something worthwhile.
...and many, many, many more that I'm forgetting! I noticed as I made this list that, to my knowledge, hardly any of these are made by black or just non-japanese-mangaka BIPOC artists, which makes me sad about the gaps in my own comic collection. Therefore, anyone is welcome to add their own recommendations in the replies!
now go forth, and combine images with text!!!!!!!!!!!

#lab notes#long post#lab creations#askbox#not hiding all this shit under a readmore. look at my advice#hopefully this helps ? I'm not a professional and I'm still fairly new to making comics but this is what I've found works for me#I'll add alt text to this later! very busy right now!

STARRYSHARKS FAQ: 2!
this FAQ will go over some of the questions about my process that i get in my askbox. some disclaimers:
ANYONE who asks any questions that have been answered in either FAQ will be ignored.
PLEASE don't take this FAQ as gospel or assume that it's viable art advice. it is not. i am not a professional, i am a teenager who draws in her free time and therefore many of these answers will involve things that break common "laws" of art, logic, and anatomy. this is just how i personally go about my illustrations. please also don't take me or any individual artist as your sole inspiration, you will not get anywhere believe me. art is like a balanced diet. if you eat sweets all the time, you'll get sick - but if you only eat veggies and healthy food, you'll get bored. try to take inspiration from a vast range of artists, even those you don't think you'd really enjoy. and most importantly, LEARN THE FUNDEMENTALS OF ART!!!! even just a little bit of knowledge can go a long way, regardless of how simple or realistic you want your artstyle to be. refusing to learn fundamentals had my art looking janky for years.
ok enough waffle let's get started!
Q: HOW DO YOU DRAW FACES?
A: it depends.
there's lots of things you can do to a face to make it unique. the starting point is the facial features themselves - eyes, eyebrows, nose, mouth... if they're the same for every character with the only uniqueness being in eyecolor or something like that, you get same face syndrome.
so, take your characters and apply some diverse facial features. certain facial features have certain character connotations too. like downturned eyes implying a laid-back or tired character, or a 3-shaped mouth implying a catty character, something like that.
but, for me, facial diversity isn't enough. it's not like you go out and everyone has the same head shape. so, i tend to try and get creative with face shape, and depending on how thin or wide the shape is, you can move around the facial features too.
these examples are a little shitty but that's because i put them together in 10 minutes. you can see the effect in my actual characters, who have more effort put into them, and how no character looks alike.
other than that, i tend to try and give every character a different eye shape and pupil "type" - so while krankenstein and romèo might have simple black dot eyes, octavia and vivica have large multicolor anime esque eyes, onion has cartoony circle eyes, and so on. if you just switch things around enough, even characters with similar face shapes will look unique. and even if they don't, doppelgangers do exist in real life.
Q: HOW DO YOU DRAW HANDS?
A: once again it depends. some characters have regular shaped hands while some have really tiny hands that only have 3-4 fingers instead of 5. usually my larger characters will have smaller hands but that isn't always the case.
but for the standard hand, i tend to have a line between the palm/base and the fingers. and then i um...add the fingers i guess😭 there's usually a lot of abstraction when it comes to hands for me, because i'm not the best at drawing them. usually either the last three fingers or the middle two will be connected as well depending on the pose.
Q: HOW DO YOU DRAW FURRIES?
A: i don't really know myself. i still don't know how to draw most furry species especially canines, god i hate canines!!! well not really, i can just never draw their snouts. really i draw furries like i would human, just with larger thighs and further back lower legs. and fur too. i like to exaggerate the nails too. and of course add fur, usually at the joints.
Q: HOW DO YOU DO LINEART?
A: i draw over the sketch. i do the sketch in thin, low opacity lineart, and go over it in varying thickness based on the perspective/desired look to get that comic book varied thickness look. the eraser will be your best friend more than the pen here, cuz there's a lot of cleaning up with both the sketch and the final lineart to have everything looking sharp.
Q: CAN YOU GIVE A STEP BY STEP GUIDE OF HOW TO DO YOUR STYLE?
A: no and i will never be able to. there is no formula to my style, i break every rule i make for myself. i barely follow any of the answers i write in these QNAs. they are not rules or steps but rather just me explaining my habits in art. i never have a checklist when i draw, i just do these things intuitively based on years of drawing. this might sound like some stuck up "it comes naturally" thing but trust me IT DOES NOT COME NATURALLY!!! these habits are born from over a decade of drawing. and besides, like i said before, with how varied i try to make my character designs any step by step would never be universal to my style. i'm really sorry but that's the truth. either way i hope this QNA helps.

I know everyone is excited for dragons rising and so am I but May is not over yet! So here's my drawing for mermay:

I actually forgot about mermay but I managed to do something before it ended :) (and tried a no lineart style)
Fun fact: I didn't know what ship to draw so I randomized it and ninjago was literally 1 of the 6 options (the other ones were ocs) and then I randomized the ship and plasma came out so good for you I guess xd.
Close up

Also I finally watched crystalized and I kinda liked the characterization overall but hated what they did with Harumi (she should have stayed dead) and the ending was rushed but overall I enjoyed it.

was thinking back this morning to my AP art class i took my senior year of hs. and how my art teacher absolutely would not let us do anything other than realism lol. and how i honestly hated that class (and switched out of it after 1 semester)
i will never understand the art teachers that are vehemently against anything stylized. like just bc it’s not photorealistic & uses lineart/a more simplified shading style doesn’t automatically mean it’s not art? i feel like as an art teacher u should just be encouraging creativity in general! if ur students like drawing anime or furries or whatever else, shouldn’t you just encourage that since they’re actually taking time to learn and enjoy drawing? especially in my AP art class, where we were given a lot more freedom to choose what we wanted to draw & didn’t have set projects we would all work on as a class. and yet i was still forced to do realism (which is good practice ig but it’s boring & not what i enjoying doing solely as an artist). which is definitely the reason i ditched that class lol
#like i understand it’s rly important to learn and be taught the basics in an art class#but i feel like once u have those down? i should be able to do whatever i want lmao#success can be found outside of just solely being a realism artist#will never understand why art teachers actively discourage everything else tho#this is part of the reason i did not pursue art as a career & chose to keep it solely as a hobby lol#i do not like other people telling me what to do when it comes to my art!

Info Page: Personas, Asks, Requests, Art Trades, and WIPs!
Hello! Hello! I'm an Indigenous/Native/Cree artist who very much enjoys making art for the fandoms I love!
[Last Updated: February 2nd]
Personas:
Skellinore! The face and soul of this blog!
She's closest to my personality and what I'd want to look like! A cool skeleton.
I used my usual art style to make this drawing, which is just simple shading on the edges of the lineart!
She's also an OC, but that version of her is vastly different from the persona version of her; in intellect, personality, and whatnot.
She was originally made to be an Underfell OC! But never got fully realized until my Amino days.
She's made to be paired up with Splendor.
River! My anti/opposite persona!
River, she's everything I hope not to be; full of hate, bitterness, and bad choices.
I guess she's the closest to what I look like? Besides her being more lean, but that's because she just wanders bar to bar and ends up in endless fights.
Her arm can change into various things, mainly used for combat, she however was not born with it. It's slowly eating away at her the more she uses it.
Her design was supposed to based off a Hunter from Left 4 Dead, but she kinda looks like Alex Mercer.
My other art style of more detailed shading and lighting you see will be made by her.
She's made to be paired up with Markus.
CE-BE3! A very busy and tired robotic bee!
My hard-working, focused, and perfectionist side of me, which usually means I become tired more.
This busy robotic bee is based off a carpenter bee! Which means she's a lonely bee who makes her home in wood.
She's the one who makes sure everything gets done on time and tries to make this blog look presentable.
Her art style is one without lineart! Which takes a bit longer than the other art styles.
She's made to be business partners/friends with Slender.
Mr. Nubbins, AKA: Sheriff Nubbins! My chaotic and weird side!
Don't be fooled by the name, Nubbins is a 100% a female, she just likes how Mr. Nubbins slides off the tongue.
Anything this cat says is random and most times, doesn't make sense. She's a little ball of chaotic energy.
She's not actually a sheriff, but don’t tell her that.
She's my simple and cute style? Or whatever my art needs to be.
Made to be the pet of Trender.
Asks: [OPEN]
Send in an ask about the fandoms you see me draw for!
Ask questions about my AUs!
Ask questions of the characters I draw!
Either of your asks/questions will be come attached with a drawing alongside the information, or just information and no drawing. Depending on my energy level.
As for NSFW asks, it'll be a 10/90 if I answer it or not, who knows, take a gamble.
Asking the characters directly is something you can do, but once again, it'll probably be a 20/80 if I answer that one.
Fandoms for Asks currently:
Creepypasta [No Humans AU]
Requests: [OPEN]
Requests are drawings only, there may be a chance I add fun facts to it.
Send in requests of characters you want to see me draw from the fandoms I'm in!
Fandoms for Requests currently:
Creepypasta [No Humans AU]
Creepypasta [Only "Him" AU]
Castle Cats
Art Trades: [OPEN]
Capacity: [0/3]
I'll work with anybody of any skill level, I'm just happy to draw something in exchange for yummy art of what I like.
The basics for this is that if you ask for two characters, then I'll ask you for two characters back and other things along those lines.
I'll also do another type of trade! This one if for writers! I'll draw you something if you write me something. >:3c
The bare minimum for this would be 3000 words. I don't mind if it's a couple words short of this minimum.
Just send a DM my way and we'll be in business. 😎👍
Works in Progress:
SCPs Redesigns [3/10]
Slender Brothers + Cabadath Icons [Sketching]
Castle Cats Fandom Challenge: Day Three [Sketching]
Final Words:
Anyways, that's about it! I'll be updating this regularly on new updates and what not! So feel free to check it out from time to time.
I also have to remind everyone that I'm a slow updating artist. I wish I was as fast as most of you, but then again. I'm a cool artist who knows how to take breaks and take care of themselves. 😎💅
Have a wonderful day/night! 💛💛💛

i've always hated doing lineart. my hands aren't steady enough for it
but lineless also was never really my thing
i decided to play with a different way to do lines today and
(left how i usually do it, vs the test on the right)
it may have taken longer to do it but.. for once i actually enjoyed doing the lines,,
(same thing: left is old, right is new)
also a var using the same base sketch/colors for more accurate comparison
like Yes it's still a little messy and isn't perfect but like. this is the first time i've tried using it so that's to be expected. i really like it and may stick with it..
#void ramblings#art wip#voids ocs#oc: cadera'tten#oc: din#oc: varkhal haysh#yeah ik i'm rambling but i genuinely got excited about this 😅#silly thing but#i've been frustrated with my art for such a long time.#it's. nice. to be excited about it again.
