things i’ve learned from my Third patient playthrough of Dead Money DLC (spoilers)
i realized i wrote a lot so under the cut it goes also i’ll be touching on subjects from the Old World Blues DLC as well.
ELIJAH
1) Somehow I can see why Veronica would see him as a father figure, he reassures the player in this fatherly tone at the beginning of the DLC though it’s most likely of course will lead towards a downward spiral of Suffering TM. Like when he talks about if you get lost or need advice all you need to do is go back towards the fountain, and how calmly he speaks of directing and helping you through. Though of course he’s a cranky old man that says things in a cranky manner but also a major ass
2) Speaking of Elijah, I’ve gotten to admire his character more since i’ve gone though all the other DLCs prior to Dead Money (Lonesome Road excluded). The fact this man that Veronica stated, i quote
“Can look at something and immeately knew how it works”
 and another being
“he doesn’t learn it’s limits, but pushes it further until no more”
and it really shines though in Old World Blues, how he broke out of the Think Tank in literal SECONDS, and built like 394849 LEAR rifles. You can tell he lacks any form of empathy in him, testing bomb collars on the Little Yang Zhe camp, and from what i can tell the patiants in the Clinic in Dead Money. He’s brutal, madman that if he was a good guy, he would’ve changed the game of the Mojave and the BOS if he was still around. He’s basically the embodiment of the morals of Letting Go TM in Dead Money, and i could never ask for a better antagonist to portray that.
DEAN DOMINO
3) Dean aka the Ghoul with such a fragile ego. i’ve usually been passive towards him on my first and second run, but for the third i took it really slow to enjoy (heavy emphasis ENJOY because i forget how tedious some of the shit in this DLC is)
i realized i had the Barter speech check option. And literally it made him turn against my Courier at the end and i couldnt persuade him to calm the fuck down. I didn’t care much for his character in the beginning, but somehow him turning against me realized how good of a character he is even tho he’s high key jerk but well written and how clear his goals string together to every part of his character. Also I almost went feral after knowing he’s the one who put Chirstine in the Auto Doc, which in it of itself, for a selfish reason. “I wasn’t trying to torture her” my ass DEAN.
DOG/GOD
4) DOG/GOD another character i didn’t really feel connected to on my 2 previous play throughs, i was busy GETTING THE FUCK OUT of Siera Madre than to get to know the companions in further detail. I didn’t talk to Dog or God as much as i did previously and to learn that God genuinely cares for Dog really *clenches fist* got me good. And honest to god i never even talked to DOG in any conversation outside of the Cage scene, so getting to know him was also a new experience. I did not know the Madre had already been open before, and the fact Father Elijah managed to get in there???? At first i was like well he could’ve just hackerman his way through the Vault but i guess he got so stuck there he needed backup to enter and also exit the Seira Madre afterwards bc he wanted to spread the cloud into the Mojave.
CHRISTINE
5) Christine. Oh yeah i always get my heart broken whenever i go through the whole ‘girlfriend’ speech options. Holding her hand? fuck me up dude. Prior to this i skim over some details of the DLCs bc reading and paying attention to dialogue is not my strong suit and i need to constantly re hear or re play stuff a few times to get it. Like i didn’t realize that during Dead Money she couldn’t really write anymore, and this is due to the trauma incident @ Big MT. A clear difference of how she acted there was different and subtle as well.
I.e when you go into Y-17 and find her holotape regarding the BOS. Her voice was more orderly. More Structured and calm, but also youthful. In Dead Money, you could tell her speech is somewhat off, how she slowly says some words, and getting adjusted to her new voice.
