shocking that this ep seems pretty negatively recieved given everyone's reactions in the tag but i enjoyed almost all of it (barring the gaslight gatekeep girlboss vision) and everyone just wants the vm/mn oneshot assists to happen already so we can get this over with but i... i deeply do not want those.

the crownkeepers half 'n half was fine. the echoes of the solstice was fine. downfall was fine. this just feels like way too much.

i'd prefer it if we got the same thing in episode 50 where liam and marisha rolled for caleb and beau but everyone does it for all their characters. yeah they can do what they want but fuck man, FUCK can we please let the c3 characters exist without a bitch in my ear whining about how the past two campaigns were better

Hello everyone! I'm Skelethom (Thomas, Thom or even Tom! Or whatever nicknames you come up with! I love nicknames), i go by he/him. I was born on November 19! I'm a scorpio, and my home country (who i never left) is Brazil, my first language is Portuguese, but i learned english all by myself (that's why it's so bad Lol), i also know a tiny lil bit of Spanish, French and Italian (but not as much as english).

My illustrations are made on my Phone (that isn't very good) using my finger to do so, same with the lil animations i make, i joined the eddsworld fandom in 2014/2015, started fully posting on Amino and Musical.ly but moved to Instagram, Twitter (but i deleted my posts) and Musical.ly turned into TikTok and i kinda never left so yay!

I have accounts on multiple websites but my nickname is almost never the same, i try to put "Thom" somewhere in my name but sometimes it doesn't work so it goes to my bio.

And also through my posts i got the chance to meet a lovely girl who i have the pride to announce as my girlfriend (who sometimes i call a wife since she'll have to get used to it) @doktorspiele-be , you guys should check her art, just saying.

I simply love miniatures, they're adorable! Any and all kind of tiny stuff, i love dolls specifically porcelain ones!

My favorite character from eddsworld is Tom, i love pringles, my favorite dessert is oreo ice cream sandwich and a breakfast i like to eat once in a while is grilled cheese with chocolate.

I think gastronomy is amazing even though i barely know how to cook.

I love skeleton guys like Sans from undertale, Lewis from mystery skulls, ghost rider, Grim reaper from the Grim adventures of billy and mandy.

Which also reminds me that another one of my favorite things is "Old" animation, basically 2000’s cartoons! Jhonny bravo, KND (Kids Next Door), Cow and Chicken, Invader Zim, Courage, Dexter’s laboratory and ETC.

I've been rewatching it again and absolutely fell in love with the show again. i don't mind if we do something following them in high school or move over to the characters in college. - Fruits Basket (Hatori Sohma, Shigure Sohma, Kazuma Sohma) Another anime I started rewatching and i'm absolutely in love with it again!! I'm looking for anything set in any part of the three seasons or even time prior to the first season :) - MCU (Bucky Barnes, Miles Morales, Dr. Stephen Strange, Gwen Stacy/Spider-Woman, Frank Castle, Namor, Logan Howlett, Sam Wilson, Matt Murdock,) Honestly i fell out of Marvel some time ago because of all the shows and shit, but i'm trying to get myself back into it! Thought I'd sketch the main Eddsworld gang as DnD characters and tried to think of how they'd play in game!

From left to right:

Matt: a Fire Genasi Monk (Way of Mercy).

For Matt I see a lot of people cast him as a Cleric or Sorcerer. It's really cool to see different takes! But in my opinion I think he'd be a shitty spell caster and would spend all of his spell slots healing every single hit he takes, and COMPLETELY forget about everyone else. He probably wouldn't keep track of the spell slots either. Instead I went the route of a Monk! As a player, Matt would absolutely be a front line fighter and mostly be focused on using Ki points to hit the target and get heals in return! It's the perfect class because he gets to be productive and a badass healer, but mostly focused on damage. The Fire Genasi was just for fun because if he's gonna have red hair

MAKE IT FIRE.

I don't really have any other in universe reasons for why I picked this. I just wanted to try something different and see how it works. Also I guess one reason was because he literally had a whole comic about how he punches someone in the face.

Edd: A Variant Human Warlock (The Fiend)

For Edd I wanted to have a bit of fun with this. My original idea was to make him a sorcerer, but they get their powers from birth and Edd is a human, so then I thought of a Wizard! But it was also a no from my end because he seems like a played who doesn't want to die from 1d4 ANYTHING damage. So I thought, what if, instead of having a patreon he made a pact with, what if instead his powers needed to be kept in check and he HIMSELF was his patreon?

To keep his powers in check he needs to drink magic cola at least once a day to keep the radioactivity in his body healthy and fuel his powers! He got his powers as a curse more so than how he did from Power Edd! He's definitely the team's DPS and is really good at saving his spell slots, with choosing human, I think he'd definitely want the stat boosts that came with picking it. He seems like he'd be really into roleplaying.

Plus just imagine how confused people would be if they were told your Patreon is fucking Coca-Cola and watch the horror form on their faces as you drink it.

Tord: a Changeling Artificer (Artillerist)

Tord seemed like he'd be a player who's really into playing a min-maxed character when it comes to stats, and doesn't really care about roleplay that much so he just picks the feats, the stats, and the background he thinks would be more beneficial to his character!

Tord is also a great engineer, as seen in the show. So why not become an artificer?

As for why a changeling, Tord is a shifty guy who can fool anyone. Like the chainsaw wielding maniac! You know the one, he pretended to be a photo while the real Tord snuck away. Who needs a disguise kit when you have Tord?

Tom: a Tiefling Bard (College of Spirits)

For Tom, I always see him as a Barbarian or rogue, which fit and are cool, but consider!

He seems like the type of player who doesn't really care about combat and is more interested in the Roleplay aspect of it, and writes really interesting back stories, works with the DM to make really cool character moments and backstory plot lines, and uses vicious mockery in battle so well he gets advantage on it! He's definitely strong in his own right and prefers to provide buffs and heals for his team than actually fight because he views it as "Lame".

A Tiefling for Tom seemed like a fun idea! Giving the opportunity to incorporate his monster form in some way without making it a main gimmick for fighting only, and thought I'd focus more on the roleplay aspect of it! His monster form was worked in as a curse and acts as more of a Hulk type of deal!

I 100% agree that PCs shouldn't be dying like this to further another character's development. I wouldn't like it for any character but I'm already lukewarm bordering on uninterested in Imogen, no flack to Laura, so not my cup of tea.

Credit to Matt where credit is due, he does a lot for these stories and elements that seem rough or odd can turn around, but oh boy. If he can turn this around I'll be impressed because this was so railroaded (derogatory). Otohan was designed to jump around the map and had no trouble reading the Hells' minds so any attempt at negotiating could just become: I'm going to steal the information from your head and continue killing because Imogen still hasn't done what I wanted. Once they entered that encounter, barring miracle rolls, they weren't getting out until they were let out.

Then there's the final wisdom save which felt like an "oh shit if I don't do something the whole party is going to die" decision. Because yes it made sense for the character but it took the decision to not let go out of Laura's hands because killing her friends apparently wasn't motivating Imogen to pick the "right answer" and if she didn't let go the rest of the party would be taken down because Otohan is just Like That apparently.

It was just frustrating.

the one thing I'll extrapolate on is as you touched on, I don't think Matt is a bad DM. I think Matt is normally a very good DM but this was bad DMing and I think these almost rookie-ieh cheap tactics are beneath his ability. this was bad DMing regardless of anything else. there were ways to up the stakes, there are ways to kill player characters, without doing -- *gestures broadly* that. I saw someone describe this combat as "feeling like a cut scene where you're supposed to lose" and I fully agree. this was some Kai Leng from Mass Effect 3 bullshit and that is one of the worst insults I can give a RPG, even more so to a TTRPG. it stops being D&D and starts being just a show when you start doing stuff like this and if people like that, then that's fine for them, but I'm not watching if that's the direction the series is going in. I'm not wasting hours of my life listening to other people argue about what to do next just so combat can become essentially cutscenes. I'm not getting invested in characters who are considered secondary.

like as it dragged on even Laura couldn't stop it and what is the point of roleplay or combat or player choice if we're doing that? I can't get into the whole Poetic Dice Rolls when bad dice rolls are the only way to end it. what should have been a beautiful moment in Imogen and Laudna's relationship, regardless of your read on it, is undercut by Matt making it all feel so forced. Laudna's decisions didn't matter, Chetney's decisions didn't matter, and Imogen's decisions didn't matter. Orym wasn't even given a choice. the only people you can even remotely argue had any agency were Fearne who kept wandering back into the fray and Ashton who successfully ran away. in my book, that's bad DMing no matter how you slice it, and my semi-sincere, semi-passive aggressive apologies for thinking Matt is so much better than that. he made a series of decisions that someone with his experience had to know would piss a bunch of veteran D&D players off and so long as I'm not harassing him over it, it's not really my fault as a viewer for hating it when it's breaking every common sense rule of how to be a DM. it doesn't make him a bad person or the Worst DM Ever, but he really should have thought better than to do something so tacky.

Not to sound silly, but are their canon personality/general differences between Red and Fire(aside from appearances)? Trying to decide whether to try for Red but I don't know enough.

Hello there!  Thank you so much for joining us tonight.  There is no such thing as a silly question; I’d be delighted to answer your question.  And if this helps you decide to reserve Red with us, all the better!  We are very excited to see your interpretation of him.

I also want to say that you shouldn’t let “not knowing enough” about a character prevent you from roleplaying a character that you love.  Getting to know the character through writing is all a part of the journey.  When I first began writing for my character, I hardly knew her.  And now that I’ve had her for a few years … well, I still learn new things about her every day!  That can be the same for your Red!  I know it can!

I’m going to answer everything else below the cut, so please keep reading.

To first answer your question, we must first clarify one small detail.  In all of in-game canon, there is no such character known as “Fire.”  Fire is the fanon name of Red who appears in the games FireRed and LeafGreen.  For roleplay purposes, we have chosen to keep Fire as a playable character in our group.

For Red, all we know of him in canon–canon as far as Pokemon: Sun and Moon goes, anyway–is that he is very reserved, and does not speak a lot.  The “silent protagonist,” as he’s usually called.  When most people have Red for a muse, they do just that: they have him tend to not speak a lot, but he has a lot of internal dialogue instead.

Having a quiet protagonist isn’t necessarily a bad thing!  There’s a lot one can do with that!  Does your Red overthink things a lot?  Or does he have a stutter that makes him embarrassed to speak, even though he is perfectly smart?  Does he just tend to keep to himself?  Or is he actually mute?  And these are just a few possibilities!

I admit that I am not all well known with the Red vs Fire debate, and I know little about the fanon ‘Fire.’  But I do know that the person who roleplays our Fire–Matt–has done a great job fleshing his character out, and is always wanting to talk headcanons and make things work.  He’s a great guy, our Matt.

The most important thing to remember that you should play your character like you want it.  Don’t write your character for anyone else.  Just you.  You don’t have to roleplay Red like everyone else does.  You can have Red be a little talkative to people he is more comfortable around.  You can have him do all these things that some people don’t think of having him doing.  And that’s okay!  The most important thing is that you have fun.

Please, please don’t let “not knowing enough” stop you from roleplaying a character.  Like I said before, roleplay is a journey–both for you and your character.  You should relax, and enjoy the experience.  Once you do that, everything else will just fall into place.
