i think it's funny to me how while i have some fragmented memories of buffy from when it was on the air i would have to say that my actual introduction to the buffyverse was angel the series because i actually do remember watching at minimum season 5 on tv and i REALLY loved it.

i have a lot of beef with ats as a show, it's certainly more flawed than btvs and much less tight as a narrative, but it did so much more worldbuilding and swinging for the fences and i really appreciate that. wolfram and hart are unironically some of my favorite villains ever and just one of my favorite concepts ever. wesley, cordy and lorne are some of my fave characters ever. illyria is some of the coolest shit ever. to the extent of my 00s buffyverse memory this is where i met spike and this is the angel i remember and actually have some fondness for. it makes me a bit sad that even in my own brain and rewatching and fan activity i tend to forget ats in favor of btvs. like yes... btvs has such a strong narrative it's so compelling. but a lot of the issues i have with it are actually solved in ats and it would soothe me so much if i just rewatched it more lol
