i'm kind of late to this but i just finished reading the scholomance trilogy by naomi novik and i feel like it is such an underrated urban fantasy?? taking the chosen one trope and turning it on its head with a fmc who has been prophesied to bring death and destruction, who is imbued with terrible power, but cannot even properly use said power to solve any of her obstacles because it would obliterate them and her soul. it takes a tired trope and the idea of an 'overpowered mary sue' and throws it back in your face by showing how all the power and destiny in the world is useless against a system filled with corruption that has burdened you with an easy way out (evil/destructive magic) that you can't take so now you have to work twice as hard as everyone else just to do simple, constructive spells instead of flicking your wrist and being done with it.

Me and @aistandardcherry have been talking about a Bad?Ending?AU where, because Tango never gets help, Tanguish loses his Hermit, and because of the guilt of losing Tango, Welsknight dies and leaves Helsknight as last man standing.

Tanguish, scared and alone and newly ruthless, manages to claw his way to the top of a Thief Guild. Helsknight, undefeated Champion with nothing left to take his anger issues out on, starts to go after this new Thief Lord stirring up trouble.

Wait wait wait, I saw in your tags that's Time and Time Again is ending soon? But I've only just found it! (through the animation you did, it and your comic are so well done)

Ah, yeah.

So by "soon" I really mean "sooner than I think I would like" and it feels much sooner to me as the writer than I think it will to you all as the readers.

But, Time and Time Again is pretty much exactly 2/3 of the way through right now. Webtoon gave me the end date before I even finished my first season, and I've been trying to fit in all the things I wanted to get into the story before it ends...

It's why my hiatus has been taking so long, I'm trying to write to get as many moments and as much development as I possibly can, with really limited time! And... also admittedly to prolong how much longer it's sort of "around" in my life.

Because I know once it is over, I'll move on to the next comic! and 3 years just doesn't feel long enough to have Adam and Steve in my life haha

But, yeah. it's getting "close" in a way that it's starting to make me sad. like this time next year it'll probably be over.

It's okay of course, it's the nature of stories that they will end. I'm working really hard to make it satisfying despite Everything, and I'm really proud of everything I've done so far.

And my next comic will be even better for what I've learned here!

I'm glad all the discussion over the possibility of Snape being portrayed by a black man is over (I'm not trying to start it up again)

I just often think about how a common argument against it was 'It isn't an accurate depiction of the books' And an argument for it was 'We already have an accurate depiction of the books'

...Do we, though? Most characters in the movies didn't really look anything like their book counterparts at all.

+ Harry's eyes weren't green, or even the same colour or shape of his mothers. Utter failure of a major character element smh. + Ron was relatively short with a small flat nose, while his twin brothers were tall and lanky... they swapped lol + Hermione didn't have buck teeth, which was important for her character growth (rip it also would have been so cute) + Draco was supposed to have sharp features (but honestly Tom was so perfect for the character and did such a good job acting even as an 11yr old kid) + For as amazing as Alan Rickman was, not only was he far too old for the role of Snape - he has a smaller nose, short arms, stubby hands and finger, overweight and squishy looking... + Arthur was WAY off. He was supposed to be tall, thin, balding, pointy-nosed and wearing glasses. I think this is more important to his character than it seems - but that's for another post.

SOME of the characters were accurate, but many of the major characters actually way off. The only thing they were all 'accurate' with was skin colour. Which, most of the time, is just another minor visual difference.

Sometimes, like with Harry and Lily's eyes, visual differences like race are important to consider - so there aren't unintended messages being sent to the audience. Hermione being black doesn't matter. Every/most Muggleborns being portrayed as black would have unintended messaging.

But the same goes for other visual aspects: Snape being typically handsome (rather than handsome-but-in-that-slightly-weird-way) messes with his character. He needs to look a little stern and weird or else there's some important messaging to the audience that falls apart.

And that's what I would think the main concern with Severus being portrayed by a black actor would be? The unintended messaging his particular role in the story would bring if not handled with care...?

I dunno. It's stuck in my head how uncomfortable the 'book accuracy' angle made me feel. I think its worth some introspection, honestly.

Nothing about Alan was 'accurate', not even the way he acted the role - yet he is considered by most to be a highlight of the movies. Is skin colour more important than age, weight, facial structure, body proportions, hand shape and general personality...? Because by saying Movie!Snape is 'book accurate' - that's what you're saying.

Valkyr Prime No Forma Queen Steel Path Circuit Armor Strip Deluxe Build AKA Can We Get Much Higher

There's room for improvement (like adding forma and maxxing out the other arcane), but I don't feel like it right now.

Here's the Valkyr Prime mods & arcanes setup. Use Terrify (Nekros helminth) over ability 3 for armor strip ability. Use these archon shards to get the 100% armor strip too and good energy economy. Feel free to ask about any of these mod or build choices, this build is from like 2 years ago that one of my partners helped me set up and still going strong. Delusion helmet and Gersemi skin for appearance.

Prime Talons mod setup. Blast damage is the current meta as of December 2024 so you can see the original before Damage whatever number update point 0 we're at now compared to the original build.

Equip Naramon, it's extremely important for power scaling and end-game level damage.

Fully ranked up Power Spike is the only focus school stuff you need, but having the waybounds unbound is always good for operator/drifter survival, combat, and movement.

Manage your energy economy by getting parazon finisher kills on eximus units if you start running low, just edge the health bars until you see the prompt and your energy will shoot up to almost max if not max. More than half the time arcane energize should kick in and give you a boost on top of the archon shard energy boost (not sure if the effects of the shards and energize multiply/stack or not as I'm not a build math gal but it feels like it does).

Here you go @issilya and anyone else wanting a no forma Valkyr Prime that scales well into higher levels.
