not to sound incredibly biased as someone who throughly and shamelessly enjoys media that involves the person interacting with it (choose your own adventure, video games with meta elements, interactive comics, etc) but i think self inserts involving popular media are great, actually. is there no greater sense of love than wanting to make it a part of your life? finding comfort in the characters, the world, the lore? draw yourself hugging your favorite character, write about them handing you a flower. take a nap with your fictional friend. make your oc just you with a fun cape or a cool outfit and superpowers, life is short.

as long as you aren't preventing other people from enjoying it or stealing someone else's oc, go in peace and find what makes you happy.
