This post is likely super rambly, but this is mostly documenting my current ideas and such. And, hey, it might catch someone's attention and seem interesting to them. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Undertale has me in a slight chokehold again after YEARS of not looking at a lot of fan content.
after looking at a few deep dives into some AUs, I remembered this one AU I made but never fully explored last year in March.
I think the initial idea for it was some time travel shenanigan shit? But that led me straight to a writer's block, so I scrapped it..... mainly cause I couldn't for the life of me remember what the initial idea was when I went back to look at it.
silly me, I didn't write anything down in a txt file like I usually do nowadays.
but that doesn't matter, because I have a different idea that sparks joy (ideas)
The working title for this AU is currently No Man's Tale or something to that effect? to my knowledge, no Undertale AU is named that. the undertale multiverse is extremely vast though, and I'm only really aware of the popular ones.
THE SETTING
The setting is essentially a cold but livable wasteland, the sky is always clouded likely due to pollution, civilisation is few and far between with wide empty deserts and the occasional establishment between each village, town, and city.
this is absolutely heavily inspired by Trigun, specifically Trigun Stampede.
As I delve more into the story, I intend to add my own spin on things, but there's only so much you can make original with a wasteland setting.
THE MAIN CHARACTERS
The story, as little as I have of it up in the ol' noggin, is mainly centred around this AUs Sans and "Frisk".
Tumblr media
In this AU - as pictured in the image above - Sans is called MG and Marigold, and Frisk is replaced by Nat.
While both are pretty interesting in my opinion, I think Nat is more interesting in their character arc.
Tumblr media
Nat tends toward violence in contrast to Frisk, who most fans depict as a pacifist.
Nat is neutral in most cases, but in times where it seems violence is needed, they are more likely to reach for the nearest improvised weapon.
The reason for this disposition, as explained above, is because they were a street rat prior to their meeting MG. AFTER they meet MG, suddenly everything they'd learnt about the world is pretty much chucked out the window. What do you mean someone can just- HELP you out of the blue? What do you mean they're not expecting anything in return?? WHAT DO YOU MEAN YOU DON'T HAVE TO STAB EVERYTHING THAT LOOKS AT YOU FUNNY???
Because of this and the character arc it causes in Nat, this AU has suddenly taken over my brain.
Tumblr media
Next is Mari! I may or may not redesign him again at some point, mainly cause I'm not the happiest with his design at the moment. But that's a future Bongos problem.
MG is much more optimistic in this AU, along with obviously being called Marigold instead of Sans. He's less kind out of the necessity of keeping a promise, and more so kind out of the necessity of keeping himself sane in a cold wasteland where almost everybody is ready to shank you at any given moment.
So, of course he's gonna care for the kid that just got their ass handed to them in a bar fight! ..........And why do they look like their having an existential crisis after he got Grillby to patch them up.
MG is also a mechanic and he has a car that he found in a junkyard one day, he fixed it up (which took him a while since he was a bit rusty at the craft by that point) and now it drives perfect.
Tumblr media
And as we transition into what I'm cooking up in terms of story and how it would be formatted, here's MG's and Nat's original designs and old information.
THE STORY
In terms of story, I don't have much yet. But what I do have goes as such; MG and Nat meet at Grillby's Bar/Diner/Whatever I end up making it, and Nat gets into a bar fight after stealing a few fries off someone's plate. Nat gets their ass handed to them, and MG notices this. He trots on over and helps the kid up. Nat, at this point, is mildly confused.
Mari waves Grillby over and calls in a favour to get Nat patched up. Nat is a bit more confused by this stage.
Then, after already helping Nat enough by this AU's standard, Mari buys Nat some food. (He puts it on his tab.) Nat. Is confused.
Then, after all of that, MG offers to get the kid somewhere safe.
Nat is exceedingly confused. That's about it for the start of the whole story at the moment. As for how the story would be told, I think it would work best as a comic. Which I'm not extremely good at since I haven't made many comics, I haven't even made one that tells a full length story.
However, since I have an original story underway that I want to make into a comic, this story'll be my comic guinea pig.
The story would mainly be narration-less, with the exception of when it's needed to have a bit of character building.
This would mainly be in the form of Nat writing in a notebook MG gifted to them. At some point in the beginning of the story, MG gifts Nat an old notebook he dug out of the boot of his car. Some of the pages are ripped out, and it's clear something was written on them before they were ripped out. But the writings are illegible since the rest of the pages were missing.
I think this story would likely focus mainly on familial and platonic bonds, as well as the existentialism that comes with living in a wasteland and trying to be kind in a world that isn't.
It'll be good practice for me because a lot of my stories end up falling into the pair your spares trope.
That's all I have for this AU at the moment, I'll probably get around to designing the other characters at a later date, but it'll most likely be as I'm writing out the story and molding the world.

Starting to get annoyed by Max's whole "maybe I have the wrong passport" bit. So I'm gonna let it out on my silly little blog because nobody in my real life watches F1 lol.
TL;DR
The way Max is getting way with saying this, with NO pushback, when Lewis couldn't even make an Ali G reference without getting cooked is really exposing the F1 media in an ugly way and I hate it.
I'm a Max fan, and this post is NOT about his wheel to wheel so I'm not gonna bother getting into it.
This "maybe I have the wrong passport" thing. First heard on one of his streams, said off handedly in response to one of his friends asking about/joking about the penalties. Wasn't that funny but they all laughed because - gamer bros. Whatever.
Buuuttt this must have set off something in that strange little man's brain (I wanna crack him like an egg) because he then showed up at media day and started shoehorning it into his answers. Like, to the point interviewers didn't understand what he meant and he had to explain it.
It was weird and cringe and very Max of him. I saw it once and was like - ooh bby, that didn't land AT ALL out of context. Maybe don't say that again. But a la "I had a cramp" he keeps trotting it out in multiple different places. And people just sort of gloss over it, a bit baffled, weird way to phrase that but okay.
Here is where I get annoyed. Lewis Hamilton made an Ali G reference AS A JOKE very clearly no need to explain what he meant, a referential joke. - the infamous "maybe it's because I'm black" moment and was utterly fucking crucified! It was on the NEWS, like actual mainstream 6 o'clock news I REMEMBER.
Go back to watch the interview and it is so clearly not that deep/serious. Yeah maybe he's a little bit genuinely annoyed, he has a right to be, but mostly he's brushing it off and trying to move on.
Max runs in racist circles and is a multi millionaire from birth. I expect less than nothing from my F1 blorbos. I fully accept that the version of them in my head is 100% NOT how they are in real life and if we ever met we would have zero in common. So putting the actual original comments aside.
I understand bringing up race directly is more inflammatory than what Max is saying but, where's the fucking outrage? Is nobody going to take offense and accuse him of idk. Anti-british bias? It is wild to me that he is running around saying this and nobody seems to know how to respond or want to respond. HE IS ACCUSING YOU OF XENOPHOBIA.
Just because he's Dutch people don't see it that way but that that's what it is. I swear if someone from outside Europe. Or even just a poorer part of Europe was saying this shit they would be seen as a villain, just like Lewis was all those years ago.
Idk I'm losing the thread now but it just... the double standards make me so so so ANGRY.
Regardless of that the REAL problem is how short sighted and gross it is for a rich Dutch person to be acting like they are persecuted because of where they are from, because I mean... come on man. But nobody is pushing back against this, nobody is taking offense to the comments themselves. Nobody is saying ANYTHING. It's wild to watch in real time.

I've actually cried watching Pip come back to life this week.
I loved the boys, they were sweet cats to me and so funny and charming-- cats. I will miss them. I hope Cayde and Gryf find someone in that next house who loves them. I mean. Gryf is baby. He has so much love and so much to learn about manners and doesn't deserve to get thrown every time he tries his best. And yeah. Cayde is drooly, but he is a lover. I made sure to give them extra cuddles before they left. Regis too. He is The Lad. The funniest sproingiest man.
But Regis in particular took a lot of joy in tormenting Pip. He would chase her, stalk her, hit her. I don't know if he just really didn't like her (he wasn't a huge fan of just hanging with other cats like the other boys, in general) or if he thought the noises she made were just... funny... but I would come home every day worried he had slashed her across the face again while I wasn't there to protect her and the ex just... didn't pay enough attention. I was so worried he was going to take her eye out. Something the ex promised before even moving in was that she would help make a catio so there would be additional space for cats to go... but of course that never made the priority.
The past week I watched as she has slowly come to understand... they're gone... and they're not coming back. She has gone back to "singing" just... all the time. It sounds like, "hel-LO?" but like over and over with some different inflections. Her eyes are bright. She's gambling around. Running. Chirping. Playing "hide and seek" with me again. (Where I hide behind something and she comes and finds me, then trills and runs in the opposite direction, I come "find" her then trot away and repeat.) Sleeping next to me at night. Coming into the bathroom with me again in the morning. Being sweet and playful and like her little goblin self. I'll cry again right now. I'll do it.
I knew she had gotten crankier, and more defensive this year... We did as much as we could do (cat caps, calming collars and plug-ins, and all sorts of different high points and hidey-holes to give space) but she never got rest with him. He would attack her when she was sleeping. There were times where I'd lay with her in the living room and she would just ZONK on me because it was safe, and in the last few months the ex lived with me those times were further in between because the library didn't feel safe for her (too many cats gathering around me) and the living room didn't feel safe for me (ex.) And just. It's like YEARS have been taken off her. Being able to sleep will do that. I can attest now that no one is intentionally waking me up or keeping me awake every night.
My baby. I am so sorry I let the last year happen. I will never ever tolerate a situation where she is so clearly unhappy ever again. Not for anything.
(And like not just her... Fiona is also clearly thrilled. She's like a bur on me when I'm in the library-- but that's pretty normal for her even this year. The cat is from the streets, and gave as good as she got. Regis was half afraid of her, like if he saw her he made a nervous unhappy noise. Mostly she hides a lot normally except when I'm in the library... But she is able to Leave the library now, which is making her so jaunty. She keeps coming out and scratching the new cat tree, and she's climbing up into the moon which only Gryf used before and I assumed would go unused without him... Nope. She was just afraid to be exposed there before. I know Cayde started doing this thing where if she left the library he would chase her. When I was in the hospital she couldn't get out and she just had to pee in a corner on a dog mat. Very fun to come home to.)
Maybe it's misandry, and yes they were lovely to me... but I return to what I've always believed... Males of any kind have no place in my home.
It just. It makes it worth it. Pip alone. Even if this decision didn't feel like the right choice for me (and god it does it does it does for such similar reasons) ... if I were still unsure and you showed me her today vs her last week... I wouldn't hesitate. My baby. I will make it up to her. The things I let happen to us.

The familiar sound of padding footsteps, or rather pawsteps, draws me from the book in my lap, my head lifting to find the source of the quiet noise. A smile plays at my lips as I catch sight of the lithe black cat trotting over to my hammock, his wide green eyes staring up at me as he makes a light chirping sound in greeting, his tail in the air as he comes over. Placing down my book, I swing myself off of the hammock and crouch down to meet him, chuckling when he immediately butts his head against my hand, rubbing himself against me with a low purr of content.
"Hey, buddy, where've you been?" I murmur to him, scratching behind his ears as he arches up into my touch, eyes dropping closed in enjoyment, "You've been gone all day."
The cat, who John aptly named Killer due to his slightly murderous nature, chirps again, as if in reply, moving away towards the other end of the veranda my hammock is areung up on, glancing back at me with a swish of his tail. Curious, I stand and follow him, amused by his need for attention as he meows at me, almost as if telling me to go faster, ears flicked back to make sure I'm still following. Easily keeping pace with him, I let him lead me to the steps of our little living area, where I stop stock still.
Killer stalks nonchalantly over to his latest prey, pawing at the disgruntled snake with no apparent care for the danger that poses. In response the snake hisses and curls in on itself, drawing back with intention to strike out, the sight of which makes me highly nervous.
Eyes wide, I move in and grab Killer, cradling the cat to my chest as I debate what to do, holding the writhing animal steady as he tries to get away, batting at my face as he attempts to get back at his new quarry.
"What the hell am I supposed to do now, you daft cat?" I mutter to him, rolling my eyes at his antics, not unused to this occurrence.
When John and I had first moved into the living quarters at the monastery, we'd quickly found the small black cat squatting here, using it for shelter as much as we did. Naturally, the two of us decided to take him in, finding the little animal endearing and sweet, and particularly affectionate. We never named him, not until he started to bring back dead animals, which was just small birds and mice-type things at first, prompting John to eventually start nicknaming him Killer, a name I wasn't so sure about, but that stuck in any case. As time went on, the black cat then brought back bigger and more interesting kills, or prey, as some were not even dead yet, things like large spiders, huge rats and some lizards making appearances on our front step, amongst the assortment of random bits and pieces he also brought us. Neither John nor I care too much, choosing just to clear away any dead animals, or catch and free any living ones, accepting that this may well be Killer's way of showing some affection.
He's never, however, brought back a snake before.
Looking at it now, I'm surprised he managed to catch that thing, acknowledging that snakes are mostly very fast animals, much too agile for a cat to catch, normally. Just as I think this, however, Killer manages to wriggle free of my grip, launching himself at the snake, ignoring the hiss it sends his way, spitting back at it instead, fur fluffing up around his body. I don't quite manage to catch him, calling out his name as he leaps at the snake, which draws back and prepares to strike properly, its jaw opening to reveal needle-sharp fangs.
At the last minute, Killer finds himself once again lifted into the air, this time by John, who walks up the steps in time to see him try and make a lunge. The veteran manages to grip the cat much tighter, soothing him a little as he rubs Killer's head, eyes swiftly finding the snake as he tries to ignore the cat's paws batting at his slightly sweaty hair.
"He brought back a snake?!" Is all he can say, brow furrowed, almost as if impressed.
"Yeah, a dangerous one, too." I reply grimly, edging slowly to the side to grab a nearby stick we use for John's fighting.
"He goes for the big guns." John chuckles, carefully holding Killer, who has relaxed into the man's grip, always having preferred his touch to mine.
"Yeah, he really does." I respond, moving up to the snake in its blind spot, before reaching out and swiftly flicking it into the bushes by our little hut.
Thankfully, the trick works, the snake disappearing back into the wild as both John and I relax, Killer letting out a low whine, struggling to get out of John's grip. Shaking his head, John sets him down, stroking along the cat's back before he trots off to another corner of the living space to sulk.
Exchanging a glance, we laugh a little, the sweaty man coming over to briefly wrap an arm around my waist, pulling me in to press a swift kiss to my lips. Kissing back, I smile into the gesture until he pulls away, moving away from me to pull off his shirt, exposing his muscular torso to the cooling evening air, the beads of sweat glistening in the fading light. Unable to tear my eyes away, I watch as each muscle ripples with each movement, eyeing him as he shakes out his long hair, his dark eyes easily meeting mine again.
"You're staring." He points out, smirking a little.
Blushing, I blink and look away, laughing him off.
"Wasn't staring at you." I try to disagree, though I know he definitely caught me.
"Not what it looked like." John murmurs, suddenly much closer to me, face inches from mine, his breath fanning out over my face, our lips nearly touching.
Swallowing, I told my head up a little, waiting for him to make a move, only to be interrupted by a series of meows. We both sigh, glancing over at the black cat, who is now laying in the corner, green eyes narrowed as he watches us, his expression almost disapproving.
"Killjoy." I mutter, heat rising to my cheeks as John chuckles and steps away again, grabbing a clean shirt, which he pulls on.
"I called him Killer for a reason." He shrugs, taking a seat on his hammock, the two of us watching as our adopted cat glares off into the distance.

A Hike To Remember
Tumblr media
Summary: You are hiking when you come across Henry and Kal
Word Count: 1700
Warning: fluff
A/N: this was a suggestion from @henrynerdfan about a hiker meeting Kal and Henry while on the trails in the Pacific Northwest. If you want to be added to my taglist, let me know
Taglist: @rmtndew @princesssterek @cynic-spirit
My breath fogged out in front of me as I walked the trails, trying to keep a brisk pace. It was a crisp fall morning, and the trails were empty for now, so I was enjoying the sound of the early rising birds as I made my way down the dirt path. The leaves were changing colours, painting a beautiful picture of nature around me. I had been on the trail for maybe an hour, and still hadn't seen another human. Animals, however, were abundant as long as I didn't make too much noise.
I was just reaching the crest of another hill when I saw a black and white blur to my side. I looked, trying to figure out what animal would be black and white in the Pacific Northwest. But the blur was gone. Maybe I was imagining things.
Or maybe I wasn't.
When I crested the hill, I could see further down the path where a man was bent over, patting a black and white dog. The dog looked at me, and I felt like I should recognize him. It wasn't until the man turned in my direction to see what had caught his dog's interest that it clicked into place.
"Kal?" I scrunched up my nose in disbelief. That meant that Henry Cavill was hiking the same trails as you. In Washington. When he was supposed to be in the UK for some down time.
Henry's laugh reached my ears, snapping me out of my thoughts. My eyes snapped to his, going wide as I realized that I had acknowledged his dog before him. I'm sure I looked like a fish as I wracked my brain for an apology that seemed suitable.
"I'm a dog person." I ended up blurting out instead, instantly turning red as I realized I had practically shouted that.
"It's okay. It happens more often than you think." Henry was still chuckling as he walked back up the path toward me. Kal followed happily beside him.
"Do you mind if I pet him? If he will let me, of course." I couldn't help my eyes drifting to the fluffy dog. He was wagging his tail and it looked like he was smiling.
"I'm sure he would love a good ear scratch." Henry nodded, a huge smile plastered on his face.
I squatted down, and waited to see if Kal would come over to me. I didn't want to encroach on his space if he didn't want me there. My heart sang when the American Akita came trotting over, wagging his tail happily. He snuffled my hand that I offered him to sniff and then threw his weight into me for snuggles.
I would have fallen over had Henry not been there to grab my hand as I flailed it out for balance. Even through his glove, I could feel how warm his hand was. I looked up at him to say thank you, but Kal chose that moment to stuff his face in mine.
"Kal, come on. You are being invasive." Henry good-naturedly chastised his dog, trying to shove Kal off of me to give me space to get my balance.
What happened instead was that Kal pushed into me again, and toppled both Henry and I over. Kal lounged across us, nuzzling Henry for treats I assumed.
If you had told me when I started out on my hike that I would end up in a pile with Henry Cavill and Kal, I would have laughed at the fantasy you were trying to feed me. I was mortified as I tried to disentangle myself from Henry. His laughter was a balm on my soul and blushing, however, making me feel a little better.
Henry finally managed to shove Kal off of us, and helped me sit up. I brushed dirt off my arms, suddenly self-conscious. I froze in place when Henry reached over to brush my hair out of my face. His hand paused as he went to tuck the hair on the other side of my face behind my ear. A light blush dusted his cheeks, and he dropped his hand.
"Sorry about that. Here I am getting after Kal for being in your space, and then I go and do it." Henry cleared his throat. Once he was standing, he offered me his hand and helped me up when I took it.
"It's okay. It's not exactly like Kal gave us a choice about being in each other's bubbles." I dusted my pants off, trying to sound casual, but inside my stomach was filled with butterflies and my heart was beating hard against my ribs.
Images of him being flocked by fans had me stepping back, respecting his and Kal's space once again. I hadn't been expecting to come across another person out here, and I certainly didn't think it would Henry. Scooping up my backpack from where it fell during the ordeal, I adjusted the straps.
"I'm sorry I interrupted your hike. I'm sure you wanted to be alone when you came out here." I tucked my hair behind my ears, catching Henry in the acting of watching my every move. "I can go down a different path."
I took another step back, but bumped into Kal. The Akita had decided it was a good idea to stand behind me, blocking my escape route. Henry stepped forward to steady me, once again coming to my rescue.
"I swear, I am not normally this clumsy." You laughed, unable to keep calm now that his hand was gripping yours again.
"Kal has a tendency to get in the way when he wants attention." Henry assured you, letting go of your hand slowly. "And Kal seems to be really taken with you, so why don't you join us for the rest of the hike?"
The request blindsided me. Never in a million years would I have expected him to suggest that. He didn't even know my name, and he wanted me to join him on his walk. Was I off base in thinking that Kal's approval meant a great deal to Henry?
I realized as these thoughts ran through my head that I still hadn't answered him. When I met his eyes, his intensely blue eyes, I found myself floundering again for what to say.
"Y/N. That's my name." I blurted out, once again mortified that I was acting so off from my normal self. Taking a deep breath in a weak attempt to calm myself, I scratched Kal's ears absentmindedly. "And if Kal really wants me to join you two, then I guess I can't say no."
"You just made his day." Henry said with a twinkle in his eye.
We walked along the path, no longer trying to keep a certain pace. Kal romped around us, bringing sticks for us to throw, or pulling on Henry's arm to get him to examine a tree that had some squirrels chattering in the branches. We talked about nothing in particular, just enjoyed each other's company. I did find out that he was in Washington on vacation. A little trip to get away is how he described it.
When we got back to the parking lot, there were lots of cars, and people milling about. Henry had clipped Kal's leash on before we reached it, and they walked me to my car. I was glad I parked under the shade of a tree. Now that the sun had risen, it was getting quite warm.
"Look, I am in town for a few more days." Henry leaned on my car, watching as I settled my bag in the trunk. He opened the drivers side door for me, ever the gentleman. He reached for my hand when I made to get in the car, getting my full attention. He had taken his gloves off, and I could feel the callouses on his warm hand as it engulfed mine. "I want to see you again."
"Are you sure you don't mean Kal wants to see me again?" I teased as Kal gave out a little whine. I patted his head, but didn't take my eyes off Henry. I couldn't decide what I was seeing, but it made my stomach do flips. "But if that's the case, I would love to see you both again."
I reached into the car for a gum wrapper and a pen. I quickly but neatly wrote out my cell number, but paused before handing it over. There was something very surreal about giving a celebrity your phone number because they wanted it. Smiling, I handed it to Henry, who looked at, a line showing up between his eyebrows as he concentrated on the digits, as though he was committing them to memory in case her lost the gum wrapper.
I squatted down, petting Kal vigorously as I said goodbye to him. The Akita lapped up the attention, shoving himself into me again. Luckily this time I was ready, and leaned against the car door.
"I guess I will be seeing you then." I stood up to face Henry again. He smiled down at me, not hesitating this time as he tucked my hair behind my ear.
"You definitely will." Henry's voice was barely more than whisper as his eyes searched you face.
There was a brief moment--an insane moment--when I thought he would kiss me. But I snapped out of that fantasy, and cleared my throat. That seemed to snap him out his thoughts too, and he straightened. We quickly said goodbyes and I got in my car.
As I was leaving the parking lot, my phone buzzed in my pocket. I hit play on the steering wheel, expecting a text from my sister or mom asking where I was. I normally didn't hike that long, and cell service on the trails was spotty. I was pleasantly surprised when the automated voice of my car started reading the text.
"I hope this is your real number. It was so nice meeting you today, Y/N. And I can't wait to see you again, and possibly take you out on a real date. -HC"

"Weakness: dogs," Joel muttered, his eyes flickering over the page he was working on. On it was a small picture of Boy attacking the creature they had fought yesterday, but his gaze fell upon the drawing that he had added at the last moment. One that looked a lot like the girl that was currently still sleeping beside him and was holding katanas in the air. Smiling softly, the boy scribbled down another word before whispering, "And Robin."
Joel glanced over at his best friend at that, his eyes slowly tracing over her face while his smile softened a little at the sight of her. He stared at her for a moment longer before turning his attention over to Boy who was watching him. "That's you," Joel said as he gestured towards the dog drawing in his journal. "It's a little rough around the edges, but that's what I get for attempting to draw with one arm."
Joel looked back at Y/N at that, smiling softly as he glanced down at his arm which she was currently resting on. He hadn't wanted to move it in fear of her waking up, so he had just been very careful and maneuvered his body so that he could draw with just one hand while the girl slept.
Boy titled his head and Joel chuckled softly as he closed his book and set it aside. "You wouldn't happen to have a power source to a ham radio in here, would you?" Joel asked as he peaked over the girl's shoulder at the dog, making sure to talk quietly so he wouldn't wake Y/N up. "'Cause I have a. . ." Boy lowered his head and the boy frowned. "Never mind."
Joel laid his head back against the pillow again, letting his other arm wrap back around Y/N’s waist as he soaked in the moment for a little bit longer. He wasn't sure how long it would be before they were able to find another place to rest that had a bed or a couch. Maybe that's why he had let Y/N sleep for as long as he had. It's definitely not because he liked getting to have her this close.
Nope. Not at all.
Although he would be lying if he said he hadn't gotten the best sleep of his life last night.
Soon enough it would be Aimee he would be sleeping with like this, Joel reminded himself. And at that thought, he knew it was time to get up and moving again if he hoped to be reunited with Aimee soon.
Sighing, Joel let his gaze fall upon Y/N once again and he smiled as he reached over and gently poked her face like he used to when they were younger. "Robin," he whispered. "Wake up." She let out a small groan and turned before nestling her face against his neck, an action that made him freeze momentarily while his cheeks became a tinge pink. "Robin, you got to get up. We need to get going."
Y/N let out a small sigh, her breath fanning against his neck and sending chills down his spine. "Not a morning person, remember?" she muttered.
"I know, but the sooner we get going, the sooner we get to Aimee," he reminded her. "And the sooner we get to Aimee, the sooner you can get back to sleeping in."
Y/N leaned back at that and opened an eye to look at the boy. Their faces were mere inches apart and she felt her heart skip a beat because of the fact, but like always, Joel didn't seem fazed. "You make a compelling argument," she finally said before letting out a sigh. "Fine. I'm up."
Joel grinned at that and Y/N let out a huff as she sat up and stretched, the movement finally allowing Joel to move both of his arms once again. The two pulled themselves up off of the makeshift bed after that and they got ready and picked up their things.
It wasn't long before they were both standing in front of Boy with their backpacks on their back once again. The dog looked back up at them, his eyes never leaving their own which made Y/N frown slightly. She bent down and Boy trotted over to her, allowing the girl to pet him while Joel watched with a soft smile.
His eyes flickered around the bus one last time before hesitating on a small object laying on a table. He was quick to pick it up, his smile widening as he said, "Huh. Look, Robin. Lipstick."
Said girl looked up and hummed in response before getting distracted by Boy once again, the dog licking her face while Y/N softly laughed. Joel continued to look at the lipstick before saying, "Aimee. Hey, would you mind if I kept this?" He looked to Boy who merely glanced at him before turning back to Y/N. "Thanks."
"All right, well. . ." Joel began, letting out a sigh as he shoved the lipstick into his bag. "This is it. Thanks for having us. I should. . .stop talking to a dog."
Y/N chuckled and looked up at Joel. "Probably," she teased earning a playful glare from the boy.
Joel held his hand out and Y/N took it before he helped her back up onto her feet. He squeezed her hand once before letting go and giving Boy a small wave. "Okay. We'll see ya," Joel said. He then began to walk towards the bus door, Y/N smiling one last time towards Boy before following after her friend.
Joel opened the bus door and hesitated as he looked out. Y/N stuck her head out beside him, the two both looking around before she said, "Looks clear." Joel nodded in agreement and hopped out of the bus. Y/N right behind him.
They started to walk off in the direction they had been heading the day before, but Y/N couldn't help but glance back at the bus with a small frown on her face. Joel noticed this almost instantly and frowned as well before gently nudging her arm. "What's wrong?" he questioned, his eyes flickering over her face in concern.
"I'm just. . ." the girl hesitantly flickered her gaze back towards Joel and sighed. "I'm just going to miss Boy. It was kind of nice being able to see a dog after all this time."
Joel gave her a sympathetic smile. "I know what you mean," he told her before wrapping an arm around her shoulders and pulling her close to him as he squeezed her comfortingly. "After we get to Aimee's colony I'll make it my next priority to find a dog just for you, okay?"
"Cause finding a dog will be that easy," Y/N muttered with a small roll of her eyes and the beginnings of a smile starting to appear on her face.
"All I need to know is that the dog will be for you and it'll be easy no matter how long it takes," Joel assured her. "If Boy could make it this long, then there are bound to be more. Besides—"
However, Joel was quickly cut off by the sound of the bus doors opening up behind them. The two friends froze and Joel let his arm drop back down to his side as they turned to look back at the bus where they could now see Boy sitting in the entrance. He barked instantly and their eyes widened in alarm.
"Oh, hey, hey, hey!" the best friends exclaimed, both of them putting their arms up in alarm as they attempted to hush the dog.
"No, no, no. None of that," Joel insisted. "Something might hear you."
Boy stared at them for a moment before exiting the bus and walking over to them. Y/N glanced towards Joel, the two sharing a look before looking back at Boy.
"You. . .you wanna come with us?" Y/N offered, her eyes flickering over the dog who titled his head and sat down at her words.
"Okay. You can come," Joel replied, smiling softly before glancing towards Y/N. He gave her a small wink. "Found you a dog, Robin."
Y/N rolled her eyes and playfully shoved the boy making him laugh while Boy just watched them. "Let's go," Joel said after he managed to calm down his laughter. "Come on."
Y/N and Joel both turned to begin their walk once again, but Boy ran back into the bus. The two hesitated, turning back to the bus in confusion before Boy came running back out with the red dress in his mouth. Y/N put a hand over her heart, her gaze turning towards Joel who momentarily locked eyes with her before looking back down at Boy.
"Yeah, we can bring that. You want me to put it in my bag?" Joel questioned. He reached down to grab the dress but Boy instantly growled. "Okay. It's okay. I'm gonna keep it safe. I promise." Boy reluctantly let go and Joel nodded slightly before stuffing it in his backpack. "Going in the safe backpack. See? Okay, you ready?"
Boy wagged his tail and Y/N instantly smiled before kneeling down on the ground to pet the dog and give him a hug. Boy began licking her face and Y/N let out a small laugh while Joel watched them fondly. "Let's go. Come on," Joel told them. The girl looked up at him and he smiled before holding his hand out. The girl took it and he helped her up onto her feet before they began walking off once again, Y/N swinging their hands between them in an exaggerated way while Boy barked happily and followed behind them.
"Okay, that's really gonna have to stop," Joel insisted as he glanced back at the dog. Y/N chuckled and Joel looked her way, his eyes flickering over her face before down to their hands which she was still swinging between them. "I've said it before and I'll say it again, but we're kind of like Batman and Robin. I'm obviously Batman, but don't worry. Robin's pretty cool too."
Y/N playfully rolled her eyes and let go of Joel's hand in order to wrap her arms around his shoulders in a small sort of lazy hug as they walked, a thoughtful look upon her face as she asked, "What does that make Boy?"
Joel glanced her way and she let one arm drop in order to gesture towards the two of them. "If we're Batman and Robin, then what does that make Boy?" she repeated, now pointing towards the dog who was happily trotting along beside them.
Joel hesitated a moment before asking, "Have you ever heard of Bat-Hound?" Y/N shook her head, her arms falling back down to her side as she walked beside the boy. "Bat-Hound isn't really well known anyways, but he was in a few things. He was the canine crime-fighting partner of Batman and Robin for a little while. So Boy could be our Bat-Hound."
Y/N smiled softly and looked down at Boy before whispering, "Batman, Robin, and Bat-Hound." Her gaze flickered up to Joel who turned his head to look back at her. She flashed him that smile of hers before saying, "I like it."
Joel smiled back at that, his hand gently reaching out to grab ahold of her own and give it a small squeeze. Batman, Robin, and Bat-Hound.
He liked the sound of that too.

As time began to slip by, Y/N found herself feeling happier than she had in a really long time. They may have monsters to stay away from and they found themselves having to fight, but they were back on the surface. They were together and they had Boy. It was almost like she was back in the good old days before the apocalypse and Aimee, the days where it had just been her and Joel.
Sometimes she wished she could go back to those times. Everything had been so much simpler then.
Her heart hadn't been broken yet.
Y/N had to remind herself every once in a while that they were traveling so that Joel could reunite with Aimee, but when she wasn't thinking about that, she was enjoying the time she had left with her best friend. The conversations that they had, the moments where they took a break just to sit and pet Boy while they softly whispered to each other, the adrenaline coursing through their veins as they ran hand in hand to hide from monsters before bursting out into laughter once they realized how ridiculous they were. It all made her wonder why they hadn't tried living on the surface years ago.
"Robin," Joel said, elbowing the girl in her side and managing to throw her out of her thoughts. The girl winced slightly and looked to Joel who gave her an apologetic smile. "Sorry, look." She followed where he was pointing to a bush of berries. Her eyes widened while Joel was already jogging over to them.
He picked a few off and tossed them to Y/N and whispered, "Sustenance. Perfect." He began to try and peel off some more while Boy nipped at his leg and Y/! stared at the berries in her hands. "Ow. Ow! Ow!" Boy grabbed his pant leg and began pulling on him. "What. . .What are you doing?" Boy let him go and started barking while Joel furrowed his eyebrows and stared closer at the berries.
"But they look so good." Joel held it up to the light and frowned at the sight of the dark lines within. They were poisonous. One bite and he would die without question. "Yeah, you know what? I don't think I should eat these."
"Shit, Boy. He was so close to eating those. Why'd you stop him?" Y/N asked in a teasing manner, having already dropped hers once she noticed the way Boy was acting. Joel feigned hurt and threw a berry at her which Y/N quickly dodged.
She stood back up with her mouth open in surprise before saying, "Joel, did you just throw poisonous fruit at me? I thought we were best friends."
Joel just rolled his eyes with a small smile on his face as he dropped the rest of the berries and began to walk away. However, he didn't get far before something hit the back of his head. Joel stopped instantly and frowned as he turned around to see a berry now on the ground beside him.
Joel glanced up at Y/N who smirked as she wiped off her hands and said, "Now we're even." She then walked pass Joel without a second though and called out, "Come on, Boy." Boy was quick to run after her and Joel stared after the two for a moment before smiling softly and shaking his head as he jogged after them.
"Hey! Wait up!"

Dear Aimee,
Guess what? Robin and I got a dog, and he's the coolest. His name is Boy.
He helped Robin save my life from a giant frog in a pool who tried to eat me with his tongue. And then we hung out on his bus.
Man, do the three of us make a great team.
We found out we have like a ton in common too. Boy fits right in with me and Robin. I feel like the three of us can talk about anything.
You got to see us out here. We're like this iconic trio.
I don't know. Feels like when we're together, we're unstoppable.
It's crazy the things you forget about the world. Like the smells. The grass, the trees, the flowers. I had almost forgotten what Robin was like outside the bunker. But seeing her out in the world again, the sun lighting up her eyes while her personality flows around her like the wind in her hair. I hadn't realized how much the bunker seemed to suppress who she really was. And seeing her back to herself is something I would never want to see be taken away ever again.
I mean, sure, you get the occasional bloody corpse, but—
Joel let out a yell of surprise as the floor suddenly gave way below him. Before he knew it, he was falling down and hitting the ground with a loud thump, his notebook which he had been writing in going flying down beside him.
"Joel!" Y/N yelled out, Boy barking alongside her as the two scrambled over to the hole and looked down. Joel let out a groan from where he was laying before blinking his eyes open.
"I'm okay," he muttered, slowly pulling himself up onto his feet and wiping the dust from his clothes. He stuck his notebook into his backpack before taking in his surroundings, a frown appearing on his face as he whispered, "Oh, no. I fell in a hole."
"You'd make a much better Captain Obvious than a Batman," Y/N stated, a teasing smile playing on her lips while she pulled her backpack off and began rummaging around for something she could use to help the boy.
Joel sarcastically laughed from below. "I always did love you for your humor," he shot back earning a wink from the girl in response. Joel looked away at that, the corners of his lips tugging up into a small smile. "Okay, I just gotta. . .climb out. I can climb out."
"You work on doing that while I actually try and find something to pull you out. I could've sworn I packed some rope. . ." Y/N muttered. She then hesitated before whispering, "Or was that on the last hunting mission?"
"Uh. . .Robin," Joel called out, his voice pulling the girl from her thoughts as she hummed in response. "Are there any monsters that dig holes like this one? Maybe some that dig a series of holes connecting together?"
"Yeah?" Y/N said in a confused voice before her eyes widened in realization. "You're not alone down there. . .are you?"
"I don't think so," Joel admitted, his voice a little softer. The girl was quick to peak over the side of the hole, her eyes scanning the area with more attention than she had before. She could see a system of holes all connecting to the bigger one that Joel had fallen into and the closer she looked, the more she could see the dozens of bones lining the floor.
Y/N’s breath hitched in her throat and Joel tensed a little at the sound. "Joel," she whispered, her voice a little shaky. "Don't move."
"Don't move? Why? What's happening? What's down here with me?" Joel asked, his voice growing more panicked by the second.
"Joel, you need to calm down. Don't worry. I'm going to get you out of there," Y/N assured him before disappearing from up above.
Joel looked up with a panicked look flashing across his face. "Robin?" he asked, his voice growing shaky as he felt his anxiety start to take over. "Oh, no. This is bad." His eyes locked onto Boy. "Oh, this is so bad." Boy began to bark and Joel's eyes widened, "Stop. Stop it! Shh. Stop it!"
He could hear the rustling of a creature at this point coming from one of the holes right in front of him. His hands shook a little as he turned his gaze towards the hole. "Robin?" he called out again. "Please, come back. Batman kind of needs his backup right now!"
The rustling suddenly grew silent and Joel froze, his eyes flickering over each of the holes before he felt the hair on the back of his neck stand on end. The sound was now coming from directly behind him and for a moment Joel felt as if he might pass out.
He didn't know why he did it, but Joel found himself turning to look at the very hole that the noise was coming out of. Before he knew what was happening a worm looking creature came lunging out at him and Joel had to quickly jump out of the way before its teeth could sink into his face.
Joel fell to the ground and against the pile of bones. "Robin!" Joel yelled out as he desperately grabbed ahold of one of the bones before getting back up onto his feet. He could hear the noises all around him now and his hands shook due to his own nerves. "Y/N!"
Then, right as a few of the monsters were about to jump out at him something fell from up above and wrapped around his hands. Joel let out a yell and tried to get whatever it was off of him, but stopped as soon as he got a closer look at it. It seemed it be—
"It's a rope, you numbskull!" a male voice yelled out causing Joel to blink in surprise before looking up. He could now see Y/N up above with a young girl and an older looking man.
"Joel!" Y/N exclaimed, her eyes wide with fear. "Put it around your foot and grab on! Hold on tight!"
Joel did as she said, his eyes widening as the worm creatures began piling out of the holes without hesitation. "Okay, come on! Hold on!" the man told him as he began pulling Joel up. "Pull up!"
Y/N was at the top with her crossbow in hand. Her breathing was heavy, her heart beating erratically in her chest as she started shooting at the creatures that got too close to the boy for her liking. As soon as Joel had grabbed ahold of the land up above, Y/N was pulling out her katanas and jumping over him in order to slice at the few worms that had managed to make it out.
The man pulled Joel further back and exclaimed, "You wanna look at 'em? Oh, shit! That girl of yours is slicing them up like their sushi!"
Joel managed to look up, his eyes locking onto Y/N as she sliced through each of the worms as if it were nothing. One flew by her, but the man pulled out a machete without hesitation and sliced through it, nodding towards Y/N who quickly returned it while the young girl ran over to the two with a small object in hand.
"Minnow, finish 'em off," the man said. The girl nodded and threw the object into the hole before grabbing ahold of Y/N’s hand and pulling her back.
"One, two, three, four and. . ." Minnow fell silent as an explosion rang out from below, throwing dirt and work guts up into the air. Joel's eyes widened as he realized it had been a grenade while Y/N began to grin.
"Are we. . ." Joel began only to get a chunk of worm guys tossed at his face. He hesitated and spat it away.
"Always count to five," Minnow told him while Y/N rushed past her and over to Joel. She knelt beside him on the ground and chuckled softly as she reached out to pull the worm guts away from his face. She tossed them to the side and Joel gave her a thankful look.
"You okay?" she whispered, her hand reaching out to gently rest upon his shoulder. Joel's eyes locked with her own for a moment before he nodded his head. Y/N let out a small sigh of relief and squeezed the boy's shoulder once before looking back towards Minnow and the man.
"Was that a samurai sword?" Joel asked, his eyes narrowing at the two strangers while he sat up and leaned closer to Y/N in an almost protective manner.
"Why'd you fall into a Sandgobbler's nest?" Minnow questioned.
"I didn't mean to, you know. I was just. . .I was walking," Joel replied.
"He wasn't paying attention," Y/N clarified, winking playfully at the boy as she pulled herself back up onto her feet and shoved her katanas into her backpack. "Too busy writing letters in his notebook to see the big hole in front of him."
"Hey!" Joel complained.
"What's your name?" the man asked.
"Y/N L/N," the girl replied with a soft smile.
"Joel," the boy replied. "Joel Dawson."
"I'm, uh, Clyde. This is Minnow," the man told them while Minnow gave them a small peace sign in greeting.
"You're lucky we weren't monsters. You were yelling like a girl," Minnow said as she gave a pointed look towards Joel. "Oh, this is bad! This is so bad!" she mimicked in a high squeaky voice.
"Okay, I don't sound like that. My voice is not that high-pitched," Joel insisted.
"Yeah, it is."
"Yes, it is."
"It was higher than mine, and I'm eight," Minnow commented.
Joel frowned and looked to Y/N who just looked away without saying anything. His frown deepened. "Robin," the boy complained. "You're supposed to be on my side."
"Robin? I thought your name was Y/N?" Minnow muttered.
"It is," Y/N replied before holding a hand out for Joel to take. The boy quickly grabbed ahold and she helped him to his feet.
"I just. . .I. . .uh. . .call her Robin," Joel explained, wiping the rest of the monster guts off of his shirt.
"What in God's name are you two doing up here alone anyway?" Clyde asked.
"We're not alone. We have each other and we've got Boy too," Joel insisted as he pointed towards the bush where Boy was currently hiding.
Both Minnow and Clyde were quick to raise their weapons in Boy's direction. "Woah! Hey! No!" Y/N exclaimed as she began running towards Boy.
"Oh, wait, no! No, wait, wait!" Joel cried out, his hands up in the air while he glanced back at Y/N who had now reached the dog. Boy was hiding in the bushes, but as soon as Y/N reached him, he was quick to hurry to her side where the girl began to pet him.
Minnow dropped her weapons almost immediately. "Oh, my God, it's a puppy!" she exclaimed happily. Y/N looked back at the young girl and smiled before gesturing for Boy to go ahead. The dog ran over to Minnow without hesitation and Y/N watched with a fond smile as the young girl began to pet the dog.
Y/N returned to Joel's side with a small sigh of relief while the boy ran a hand through his hair. He looked her way and muttered, "They almost killed our dog."
Our dog.
The words seemed to ring through his head almost instantly and he hesitated as he realized he had just referred to Boy as being their dog. However, a smile was already beginning to take over his features at the idea of Boy being their dog and Y/N was already smiling a little too, her eyes not leaving Boy and Minnow.
"I wouldn't have let them. No one hurts Bat-Hound on my watch," she whispered, her words making Joel smile even more.
"So, uh, what happened with your colony, man?" Clyde asked. "They kick you out?"
"No, I actually left on my own," Joel explained. "Something I had to do."
"And I followed him," Y/N added.
Clyde's eyes flickered over to Joel and he gave him a pointed look. "You stole food, didn't you?" he asked.
"He's a food stealer," Minnow said.
"Yeah," Clyde agreed.
"No, I didn't steal any food," Joel insisted.
"Right," Clyde muttered while Y/N tried to hold back her laughter. Joel nudged her side with his elbow and she just gave him an innocent smile that made him roll his eyes.
"Me and my colony were really close. Like family. Okay? They were super upset that we left. Y/N knows. Ask her," Joel told them.
The two looked to Y/N and she opened her mouth before saying, "He stole food."
Joel's eyes widened in surprise while Minnow held Boy closer and whispered, "I knew it." Y/N let out a loud laugh and leaned against Joel's shoulder while the boy pouted beside her.
"Oh, come on. I'm just messing with you, Dawson," Y/N insisted, winking at the boy and reaching up to fix his messy hair while he looked away with a small blush dusting his cheeks.
Everyone fell silent when a loud noise filled the air. Y/N instantly went rigid, her hands reaching out to grab the hilts of her katanas while she surveyed the area with narrowed eyes. Joel just looked around confused beside her while Clyde and Minnow both straightened up.
"Time to go, Minnow," Clyde said, nudging the girl softly. She quickly rose to her feet and began to walk after Clyde, the two walking away and leaving Y/N and Joel to share a small look.
"Time to go? Why?" Joel asked.
Y/N rolled her eyes. "Why?" she mimicked. "Did you not just hear the ominous noise that filled the air literally a couple of seconds ago? There's obviously a monster on our tracks."
Joel shot her a small look before gazing back in the direction of the noise. "So, what. . .What, uh. . .What was that? What's going on?" Joel asked as he looked back towards Clyde and Minnow who were still walking away. He quickly grabbed Y/N’s hand and dragged her along while Boy ran beside them.
"Could've been a lot of things," Clyde replied.
"Tree Flamer. Herd Stomper. Rockdiver. Limbsnapper. Limpcrusher. And my favorite. . .the Chumbler," Minnow listed off as they began to walk further into the woods.
"Okay, I get it. A lot of. . .A lot of names," Joel muttered.
"Whatever it is, it took your screams for the dinner bell," Clyde explained. "If it's got your scent, it's gonna be on you for a while."
"Shit," Y/N muttered seeing as that wasn't exactly the kind of news you wanted to hear on your journey on the surface. "I told you to stay calm."
"You left me," Joel retorted, pointing at the girl. "How was I not supposed to freak out?"
"I was trying to find you help," Y/N insisted. She looked towards the boy, her eyes locking with his. "I wouldn't have let anything hurt you." Joel watched her for a second, his shoulders relaxing a bit for he knew the girl was right. She never had let anything harm him.
Reaching out, he gently took ahold of her hand and gave it a small squeeze before looking to Clyde and Minnow. "Hey, maybe we could, like, I don't know, come with you guys?" Joel suggested.
Minnow and Clyde both stopped in their tracks before turning around to look at them. Joel was quick to wrap an arm around Y/N’s shoulder, giving the two a big smile while Y/N smiled softly beside him.
Clyde and Minnow looked between the two before glancing towards one another. "Which way you headed?" Clyde asked.
"West," Y/N replied.
"To the coast," Joel furthered. "Jenner Beach."
"Yeah. We're not cutting north just yet," Clyde agreed.
"Not cu—Not cutting north just yet," Joel muttered.
"Come on. Come on," Minnow told them.
Joel's eyes widened in surprise and he smiled before squeezing his arm around Y/N in a small hug of excitement. He then quickly cleared his throat before saying, "Uh. . .yeah. Whatever you want. You guys want us to come, we'll come."
Y/N chuckled softly and shook her head at the boy. "Come on, Batman," she muttered before hurrying after the two.
"Okay, but does my voice really sound like a girl?" Joel asked after her, hurrying behind her with Boy on his heels while Y/N’s laughter filled the air.
And with that, the two were on their way once again, this time with three new members than they had initially started out with.

Tumblr media
"Turn your head," Sorbet instructed.
Lumaca looked up in the mirror at Sorbet as he held her curls in one hand and a brush in the other.
She had been studying herself in the mirror and thinking about her initial hesitation when he offered to help gussy her up for the big day. It wasn't that she didn't think he could do a good job; she knew he was an expert when it came to painting his and Gelato's nails. She had just worried about potentially bothering him with it.
Though, she was glad that he was so persistent in the end. After all, he did have the innate ability to make anything look lavish on a tight budget.
"Like this?" she asked, turning her head to the right.
"Yeah," he replied.
The brush's teeth glided through her hair, smoothing out any rough curls that were sticking out of her head. Each stroke smoothed it out more and more until he was able to hold all of her hair in one of his hands. Then, as gently as he could, he wrapped it up into a bun. He left two long strands on either side of her face.
He stepped back to study his work from afar, feeling rather proud of himself.
Then he noticed her shift in expression.
"You look nervous," he commented.
She looked up at him and gave him a little smile.
"I am a little," she admitted.
"What's wrong?" His head tilted slightly. "Today's a happy day."
"I am happy, Sorbet!" Her hand went to her chest. "I feel like my heart could explode right now; you know? It's racing like crazy."
"Oh yeah?"
"Yeah, I mean after today, I get to..." She took a deep breath before continuing. "I get to spend the rest of my life with Ghiaccio. It's all I've been wanting and I'll get that privilege today. I'm just... Feeling a little overwhelmed with love, I guess..."
Sorbet sighed quietly to himself, and he kneeled down to her eye level.
"Ghiaccio feels the same way," Sorbet mumbled. "You should've heard him. Every day since you said yes, he's been rambling to me and Gelato. Rambling about how long he's been waiting for this. How he wants everything to be perfect for you. How he loves you so much."
Her eyes went wide, even sparkling a little.
His eyes, in the meanwhile, drifted to the ceiling as he continued on.
"I can't say we've ever seen him happier, and it's because of you..."
Sorbet stopped and looked back down at her when he heard her sniffle. Her hazel eyes shone with tears and her lips carried a smile that could challenge the warmth of the sun.
He squinted and pointed a finger at her.
"No crying, Lumaca."
"I'm sorry," she smiled as she began to fan her eyes with her hands. "I'm trying not to, but-!"
"No crying," he cut her off before she could work herself up even more. "Save that for when you go to meet your groom at the altar."
He realized a little too late that those words only made her even more emotional. Now she was biting into the inside of her lip in a vain attempt to stop her tears from falling.
"Sorbet, that's making it worse!" she giggled, a sound which awakened his playful side. If she was going to be like this, he figured he'd have a little fun with it. Who knows? Maybe, it'll loosen her up a little.
"Not my fault..."
He leaned in close to her ear and whispered into it.
"... Mrs. Ghiaccio.~"
She pulled away from him with a squeal, holding her ear and letting her laugh fill the room.
"Sorbet, you jerk!"
He too started to chuckle, taking some joy in hearing his friend laugh.
Their laughter was interrupted by the sound of a firm knock at the door. After motioning for her to stay seated, Sorbet got up and made his way to the sound of the knocking.
He peeked through the window.
"It's Formaggio and Prosciutto," he called back to her.
Within a matter of seconds, the front door had been swung open and in walked Formaggio with Prosciutto right behind him. They were both dressed for the occasion, in formalwear similar to what Sorbet was currently wearing; white collared shirts with red vests and ties, long black pants, and polished black dress shoes.
"Hey, hey!" Formaggio called out. "What's going on bride gang?"
"Hey, Formaggio!" Lumaca smiled over her shoulder at him. "Nice to see you're already dressed."
Formaggio held up a hand to his chest and let out a fake gasp.
"Why I'm surprised at you, Space Cadet!" The nickname made her scrunch up her nose a little. "You say that like I was hoping to skimp out for the occasion."
"Thank God you didn't," Prosciutto mumbled behind him. "A lot of us would've been pretty pissed off if you hadn't come prepared."
"Hey now," Formaggio tilted his head to look back with a grin at the other man. "I thought you were supposed to be the father of the bride, not MY father!"
Prosciutto sighed at him before turning his attention to the Man of Honor and the bride. "Good afternoon Sorbet and Luma...."
Taking one look at her made him stop and stare.
"Good afternoon, Prosciutto." she smiled.
Prosciutto gave himself a quiet moment to take it all in.
He knew this day was coming ever since she and Ghiaccio had announced the engagement, but now as he stared at her, it dawned on him that she, someone he saw as a daughter, really was going to be getting married.
And that he was going to be the one to give her away.
"You look beautiful," he commented, trying not to let emotion show in his voice.
"He's right, I mean damn Sorbet!" Formaggio suddenly chimed in before she had time to thank Prosciutto for his kind words. "You did a great job. Lumaca's looking good enough to eat."
She smiled warmly at his reaction.
"Thank you!"
Lumaca suddenly noticed that Formaggio had a devious glint in his eyes. Deep down, she and the others knew that he was wanting to add on some sort of suggestion. However, just as he had opened his mouth again, a knock came to the door.
Sorbet was quick to answer.
"Oh, thank God," he mumbled, looking out the window. "It's Gelato."
The door opened and in walked Gelato, dressed in similar formalwear to the others and his face a little frazzled. He and Sorbet greeted each other with a quick kiss.
"Ahh," Formaggio called out to the newcomer. "So, the last bridesman finally decides to show up."
"Shut your mouth, cheese head," Gelato laughed. "It's not my fault traffic was bad."
"What, just like it is every other meeting day?" Formaggio chuckled, while Sorbet closed the door behind them. "Buddy, it's okay to say that you overslept or something."
With a roll of his eyes, Gelato's attention went to Lumaca and his face lit up upon seeing her.
"Oh!" He gave a little wolf whistle that made Lumaca act all bashful. He trotted up next to her and kneeled once he was in range. "Well, would you look at that! Now, who could this principessa be getting married to, huh?"
"A handsome cavaliere with blue curls!" she chirped.
"What a lucky bastard he is," he chuckled while he stood back up. "Speaking of which, the wedding's in about twenty-five minutes, isn't it?"
"Yeah," Sorbet went up next to Gelato, his hand resting on the small of his back. "We were just about to leave."
Though her face was lit up with excitement, Lumaca's eyes gained a hint of anxiety.
"It's..." she took a deep breath. "It's time already?"
"Just about," Prosciutto commented, looking down at his watch. "Sorbet's right; we should be heading out since it'll take fifteen minutes for us to get there. Let the two of them help you up."
Sorbet and Gelato both held out a hand to Lumaca, who took hold of them both and rose from her seat. She was careful not to catch herself on her dress or the chair as she stood up to meet them.
"There we go!" Gelato chirped. "Now let's go! We don't want to keep the groom waiting, do we?"
Lumaca looked over at herself one last time in the mirror, and it dawned on her that a bride was staring right back at her. In that moment, she was looking into the eyes of someone who was on her way to marrying the love of her life. The thought alone started to make her head spin.
Masking these feelings for the time being, she turned to look at Gelato with a smile.
"No, I don't think we do!"

I think the issue with the depcition trauma porn level barbarism is we are in the age of the polite nazi and this creates the drastic contrast to the modern day evil, much like they use old klan movies to juxstapose current day racists as- not that bad at least it's not the old days mentality
