Honestly my only hope for botw 2 in terms of story is that they do something actually interesting with ganondorf's character now that we know he's coming back
#i don't mean it like in a redemption ark or anything like that#but at least give us something new#like maybe having lost his physical form and turned into a smoky rampaging boar devil changed his perspective or something similar#or use the fact that he's no longer a mindless monster by giving him a cool new evil plan that isn't just 'take over with an evil army'#even in his supposedly mindless form the man was still intelligent enough to take over the robot army hyrule amassed#idk it being nintendo i doubt they'll do anything interesting with him#but i'm willing to be surprised

Children of Memory
Actual review of Children of Memory by Adrian Tchaikovsky now. I'll admit I wasn't super excited for this one. Time was great, but Ruin fell a little flat for me. The latter was trying to do the same thing as the former, but had to up the weirdness to 11. And then its epilogue presented this post-scarcity, FTL-enabled civilization, somewhere between Star Trek and the Culture, and I didn't see how that could support a third telling of the same basic plot
Boy was I wrong. Other than a brief aside for the introduction of the Corvid sapient race, Memory decided to tell the story of an actual ark ship colony, separate from the uplift projects the first two books were about. There were two main characters: Liff, a 13 year girl born on the dying colony; and Miranda, an explorer from the Uplift civilization who leads the infiltration team prior to first contact. All of the Children of books lean heavily on jumping back and forth between different POVs at very different points in the timeline, but I appreciated that this one focused a lot more on these two in particular (even while the timeline still kept jumping). It made it feel a lot more grounded than the other two
Miranda was a fantastic character. She was actually part of the Nodan entity, now that it's struck a truce with the Uplift civilization. Giving a grey goo organism a redemption arc can be interesting on its own: it's gone from absorbing others into itself to attempting to preserve the cultures it comes across, since it values diversity now. But then the role reversal where in order to save the individuals of this colony, they will have to reveal the Uplift civilization, which will definitionally destroy the culture they're trying to save. It is an incredible conflict to watch Miranda struggle with. (Also, I love how "going on an adventure" was still in her vocab, and it kept making people flinch re: the events of Ruin)
The Corvids, Gothi and Gethli, were also great. We only got occasional glimpses from their POV, but their banter was hilarious. I love a Chinese room character that knows it's a Chinese room. There was a lot of philosophy about what it means to be sapient at the end, and while Gothi and Gethli concluded that they were like the ants that run Kern's AI, I felt they were more like the Octopuses. Based on the events of Ruin, I was never really convinced that the Octopuses were properly sapient, since they have three disjoint minds that don't communicate. Although, the Corvids also act like an extreme version of this deeply unsettling neuroscience evidence that suggests a human brain has separate consciousnesses in each hemisphere, only one of which "you" are aware of
The plot itself started straightforward. The terraforming on this world was not enough to establish a stable ecosystem, so by the time the recon ship arrives, it's starting to break down. As they infiltrate, the people are going hungry and turning on their neighbors. (Somewhat similar to Arkhangelsk, which if I had realized, I would have waited longer between them. It's a little heavy.) Around halfway through the book, things go real bad for Miranda et al, and then it gets weird (almost Harrow the Ninth style). I had a pretty accurate hunch for the twist this was setting up, but that didn't matter really, since it didn't give away anything about how they were going to get there
But then at the 90% point the book revealed an ever bigger reverse twist, and holy shit, I was not prepared for that. The first twist had been revealed at that point and Miranda's character knowledge was supposed to line up with the audience again, so pulling the rug out again was so much more impactful. Incredible ending. I was sated at the end of Time and Ruin, but now at the last book in the trilogy I want more of these particular characters

Were your Durge/Tavs inspired by characters from other movies/shows/literature?
I got tagged by the wonderful @adorablebanite 🍎🖤 (I was so happy to learn more about Lilla and thank you so much for showing interest in mine character!!)
I never really posted much about my Durge Mercy because I really wanted to make some cool art (which would mean I need to get better at drawing haha) so I kept procrastinating.
To put it simply - my headcanon is that she's basically two different people. But not at the same time might I add.
Before the evens of the game while she still had her memory she was a Bhaalist and a snobbish sorceress. She was talented and smart but incredibly anti-social and spent most of her time alone reading or doing some research. She believed that other people are beneath her and are not worth her time. But at the same time she wasn't as evil as you might think. I always imaged her having True Neural alignment.
"True Neutral can be a dangerous alignment when it represents apathy, indifference, and a lack of conviction." (taken from here)
So I really like her ominous and cold demeanor, being apathetic about most things in life and having big "leave me alone" energy. And I especially like that "lack of conviction" fits her very well. Basically she has no strong faiths, beliefs or morals and although she was a Bhaalist she never really gave too many fucks about it (she did not join the cult willingly but at some point just stopped caring).
Rustin Cohle (True Detective) and Death (Supernatural)
Now when you start the game, she wakes up with no memories and additionally my headcanon is that she lost the ability to use magic as well. And I gave it a good think. If a person would wake up with no special abilities and no memory, what class would they be? Obviously, Sorcerer and Wizard are out; you don't immediately start worshiping a god so Clerics are out (and remember she's now much of a believer because of her lack of conviction); you don't immediately sell your soul to the devil so Warlock is out and so on. Until I was left with Barbarian.
So after she woke up on the Nautiloid she picked up a sword and just started swinging it chaotically hoping she would hit someone (a Fighter doesn't fit because she had no training and Paladin doesn't work because she certainly not gonna swear an oath). And Barbarian class also works with her repressed anger issues after so many years of living in apathy.
She then met some people that completely changed her life. She became willing to help someone because it's the right thing to do. Once she began caring about others, it became clear that she would do anything to protect them. I would say her alignment changed to Neutral Good because she had that "I'm not a hero I'm just a person trying to do good" mentality. Which means she didn't think she was a good person but she just chose to do good things. While she cannot control her urges, she tries her best to control her actions. Her way of achieving things is usually morally good but not necessarily lawful.
"Neutral Good characters value life and freedom above all else, and despise those who would deprive others of them. They sometimes find themselves forced to work beyond the law, yet for the law, and the greater good of the people." (once again, taken from here)
She's ready to take down gods because they abused their power and played with mortals. She's intelligent and bold enough to pull out some crazy stunts in order to protect loved ones. And she's not afraid to sacrifice herself while doing so.
Ahsoka Tano (Clone Wars) and Sirius Black (Harry Potter)
Thank you so much for reading! 🍎🍎🍎
One small note: I couldn't figure out a second character for my Redemption Ark Durge so I asked my boyfriend what character he would recommend. And he said Shrek as a joke but it kind of fits. And now I can't stop thinking about it. Like how at the start all he wanted was to be left alone but then he made a few friends, found love and became a better person. How he's not a typical hero you would imagine same as Mercy and oh my god-
My Durge is basically Shrek
#bg3 durge: Mercy#bg3#baldur's gate 3#I suppose this is the first time I properly wrote about her#I had her in my head for so long#I don't know if that sounds weird#but thank you so much for tagging me in this!!!!!#I legit just spent 2 hours putting this together haha#because I really wanted to make it right and Im not much of a writer

My take on Jegulus as someone who has been there and done that ( As a Sirius Black supporter)
Warning for the lovers of the ship to stay away because I don't have particularly positive opinion.....
So most stories make it seem as such a big forbidden love story. As these two as the idol lion and snake falling in love during times of war. And to make it seem more Romio juliet type, Sirius is shown as the guy who opposes him the most.
Now truthfully we don't know the exact state in which the black boys were brought up so everything is conjecture but we are sure that there was atleast emotional abuse to make a 16 year old to take such drastic actions.
And okay i can sympathise towards the teen Regulus that he didn't know any better or thought himself to be right. But in some way he was part of the family who made Sirius feel that leaving is a better option.
We know from canon that this man didn't let 12 years with Dementors completely break him. He had a strength to him even after being so so wronged by the side he was fighting for that the likes of Remus spineless lupin can never match.
So how can anyone believe even for a second that had Sirius had even a tiniest belief that Regulus could be helped he wouldn't have stayed. To drive the point home i would clear it that I neither believe that either black boy was pressured into joining Voldemort by their parents nor were they physically tortured at the hands of their own parents. This is my head canon. So he would have stayed had regulus been anything but the snobby pampered and secure kid. Similar to Draco Malfoy.
And i know there is no comparison but imagine that Harry was not physically abused at the hands of Dursleys. Just the typical emotional and psychological abuse. Now imagine a senorio in which either Ron Or Hermione went and fell in love with Dudley. .... Yeah that is the crude version of jegulus to it's core.
Because the only difference these two will be that Dudley was 1) Harrys cousin and not his brother 2) Dudley doesnt fall into beauty standard of the fandom 3) Dudley was not a wizard.
Because just like Regulus, Dudley too has a redemption ark in the books. He understood things to a certain extent, not fully mind you, which is very similar to Regulus.
Jegulus can be palatable if the ark is somewhat of black brother reconciliation first and then James and regulus becoming acquaintance then friends and then something more because anything else is really a betrayal to the highest trust and devotion Sirius has given to James.
Now most stories i have read in my stupid phase where i could stomach that thing was James going behind Sirius' back. Seeking Regulus out when he feels defeated for yet again being rejected by Lily Evans and finding solace in the arms of this guy while Sirius and Remus are having background drama because of the shack incident and thier own *blech* sexual tension.
I cannot express how much wolfstar i had to suffer just for reading Jegulus. I mean i hate Wolfstar with a passion. I cannot stand it but i did because I was going through this phase of jegulus. Obviously Sirius Black deserves better than Lupin.
All in all writers there are so great that they make you really hate Sirius for being against this relationship. Either he is the villian Or he is the road bump in their great love saga.
I mean i don't know where this thought came from making Sirius the problem behind everything in marauders era fictions. Yes he was a troubled kid, but aren't we all. Don't tell me that you had all your shits together by 21 years of age.
Jegulus for me is like a movie I have seen as a kid about fairies and princesses thta at the time I enjoyed the most as a child but now I find them ridiculous and laugh at my own younger self for ever finding fun in it.
But I guess that is what it means to grow up.
Alos as an end note Peter pettigrew is nothing but a tiny non existent character there. Even in alternative universe. So we know that that section of the fandom will remove anyone who hasn't got looks to support. I mean yes we all hate him, he did the worst thing but his importance is so so much more to Harry Potter than Remus Lupin's.
I mean James birthed him, Sirius is his support and family and motivation. Peter is the reason behind harrys eternal suffering but even if you remove Remus Lupin fron the story nothing significant will change.
If we remove James there will be no Harry. If we remove Sirius there will be 2 less books atleast. If we remove Peter then Harry would never reach his prophesied destiny. The only role Lupin plays is making sure Peter becomes an animagus along with the other two. But with how much Sirius and James were valedictorian level kids, they might have done it without the need to help their wolfy friend.
If anyone deserve this treatment it is obviously Remus Lupin because he has so less impact on people's life that it won't matter if he is just deleted.

The 100 liveblog ep1.11 The Calm
I am behind folks. So sorry. I don't know how I got so behind. I mean. I have a hard time getting to watch so I guess that's it. And when I'm done with the finale I have to watch Shadow and Bone before my next book assignment.
High Stakes. The Ark is dying. The Grounders are coming. Finn got dumped twice. Lincoln is leacing.
Out in the woods two days later Bellamy and Clarke are looking for the attack, knowing it's coming. Bellamy is looking at her. LOOKING at her. He's already fallen but acting cool. Clarke is feeling bad about being a warmonger. The Ark is radio silence. Bellamy thinks they ran out of air and it makes him feel guilty.
Clarke still thinks Abby was on the exploded exodus ship. (which we no know was blown up by Mount Weather, but they didn't know that storyline yet.)
Oh Kane is getting air from a vent. A little echo of s4 when the delinquents make it back to the Ark and the air vent saves them. That's the same window that they'll have later although I don't think that Kane is in the same section as the delinquents claim later.
The delinquents are in the smoker and some jackass callsher the grounder pounder. And Murphy defends her. The beginning of his redemption? Not quite, cause he still has some nasty actions coming, but the beginning I think.
Ew. Finn is flirting with Raven over the bullets. And Raven is being all cool. Finn is acting like he knows her so well and like it's a way to get back in her good graces. And she can't let him go. Screw him Raven honestly. He doesn't deserve you. "I just want you to be happy."
AND the smoker is up in flames. Because that dick didn't listen to Octavia. Murphy beats him up. "Save it for the grounders," Bellamy says. "THAT WAS ALL THE FOOD." O. Because they don't have enough against them.
Clarke says they need to hunt. B grabs her wrist. "With the whole army out there?" They need food, so B sets out hunting teams. Finn tries to go with Clarke. "You're lousy with a spear but you're sneaky." Ew. Finn is being condescending to the kid who invited Clarke to hunt.
B asks Raven for more ammo and Raven is bugging out. B says she can't leave. B stops her. 'You came down here in a pod you rebuilt yourself. You made a bomb out of a tin can. What else do you have in that head of yours?" She comes up with radios. "See we need you. You. may be a huge pain in the ass but we need you." YEs actually Bellamy is a better romantic choice than Finn. Jasper is. Clarke is. Hell, anyone is. Murphy is. Honestly. Give him time.
Oh back on the Ark, Kane finds Wick with his arm stuck in a door. What a dick (that actor.) He ruined the character. There was a hull vreech in engineering. They were betrayed by Sydney, stole the exodus. "What a bitch. My mom voted for her." He doesn't look that young honestly. Mid twenties, not going on about his mom. But Wick is funny. Kane is suddenly interested in survivors. Which they find. A whole bunch of them.
Myles Finn and Clarke tracking... but are being hunted. "I don't see anything," Myles says. Famous last words. He's shot by an arrow. Finn is like, "We gotta leave him." Dick. Always trying to leave kids behind.
Anya gets Clarke.
Kane and Wick kibbitzing. Worries about air. The cooling air is a message. He thinks theeres someone in earth monitoring. Wick thinks he has apoxia and his brain is going wacko. lol.
Anya Clarke and Finn. Oh the kid who can't breathe. Anya threatens her. Help her or Finn dies. That's fine. Promises promises Anya. Too bad you didn't live up to that one.
Oh yeah. It's Jaha in Earth Monitoring. He says Kane is too stubborn to die. Sinclair is rerouting air to the mess hall. And Jaha is saying he's about to run out of air. All right Jaha that's fine youre suicidal we know that, but I know Sinclair isn't so you better work harder at staying alive.
I have resentments against certain characters that make me biased. Have you noticed? lol.
Kane sends Wick out with the people so he can get Jaha and Sinclair and is reisking his life. Wick won't let him do it alone. The people come back to help. Why couldn't they do more of THIS. This working together to help everyone out. Because that's true to life and true to the story, instead they have to be like NAH WERE ALL MOBS ONE SECOND A WAY FROM EATING EACH OTHER. Ugh so sick of grimdark.
Clarke realizes that the kid injured is from the bomb on the bridge. Finn looks guilty because he thought his peacenik thing was safe against bridges.
Monty has found the radio. He says something is jamming the signal. He's trying to find out why the dropship crashed. and contact the ark. Raven tells him the ark is a hole in the sky. Monty is sad about his family but Raven needs the radio for the battle com.
Clarke and Finn don't come back with the hunters and Raven feels sad and jealous. :What's it been a day and a half, she says to B. "You're mistaking me for someone who cares." Now Raven is stripping. Where else would this scene come in but it seems and awkward time, doens't it? Her seduction seems rather aggressive and angry. "If you're looking for someone to talk you down. That you're just upset and not thinking straight, I'm not that guy." yeah you are Bellamy. You just did it. IT didn't stop either of you but okay. Again. I like braven better that finn and raven. They're better as friends but still.
Clarke is still trying to save the kid. Scalpel. blood. sticks a little tube into her chest to release pressure. Anya hits Finn. Hit him harder.
Kane gets into Earth monitorng and gives oxygen to the survivors. "I gave you an order. You are bound by law to follow." Jaha
"The people in this room are our best chance at survival."
Clarke "How could you send a little girl into battle."
"She was my second." "You put the bomb on the bridge. You did this to her." AGAIN. I attack you. You fight back. Therefore it's all your fault.
There was absolutely no examination of this train of thought it was taken as correct. No one ever said. "If you didn't attack us, you wouldn't have been on that bridge would you?"
No raven fucking B doesn't help your heartbreak. that's not what sex is for.
WHO WAS IN THE SERVICE BAY WHO CLOSED THE DOOR???
Shall we guess?
It's Abby isn't it?
Kane has to try to save them.
Clarke trying to save Tris isn't exciting when you know how this storyline ends. It's not about character. It's about stupid grounder society and violence and pointless warmongering. And yes, how Clarke gets them out of it. But it's interesting the things I'm interested in watching and the things I'm not. I am interested in what's happening on the ark.
Also Clarke's fear that they'll kill Finn is horrible to see. He's such a freaking creep. But they don't even kill him. And Clarke is so terrified for him. He's not worth it.
Wick making jokes is good though. We really need that comic relief. "When you die can I have your shoes?" Damn I'm so mad at that actor for being a dick.
Raven realizes that Clarke and Finn didn't run off together but were with another kid and all of a sudden she's like OH they WEREN'T hooking up. For a smart girl she's stupid about finn.
Kane crawling through a tunnel to hear clanging. OH Shades of season TWO when Abby is crawling through a tunnel with clanging to save Kane from the cave in after Mount weather drops a bomb on the village. Call back. Or call forward.
The first Kabby cuddle.
The warrior (nice voice) is telling Clarke that Anya won't kill Clarke because they need a healer. He tells her that by tomorrow the delinquents will be gone. She asks about the kill scars from combat. Asks how many he has. He opens his armor. "And half were after I hurt my knee." She kicks his knee and stabs him in the throat and holds her hand over his mouth while he dies. "Shh."
I'd say that's her first kill. Not mercy kill. Kill kill. The other was being a doctor.
She has crazy eyes.
Raven and O. "This morning I was thinking how much easier it would be if Finn was just gone." It would be. We wish it had happened that way. Bad things would have been averted.
Monty's signal disappears. He was trying to tell them there was a weird signal.
They find Myles. He says grounders took Clarke and Finn.
Bellamy is getting a lot more caring. "Raven I'm sorry." Now he realizes Monty is gone too.
Clarke running through the woods.
She gets caught in a trap slinging her through the trees.
I mean, not for nothing, but HOW IS THAT ALL CALM???

Hello! I am EuphoricSleep, but feel free to call me Snow (preferred), Lucidity, Euphoric, or honestly, whatever you wanna call me. :) I'm not very good at introductions, but uh, here we go... just some stuff about me. I'm very obsessed with Murder Drones right now, but I also love Godzilla, Transformers, Sonic the Hedgehog, and Warrior Cats.
I love to write, draw, sing, and play games, and that's the stuff I do in my free time. My favorite games are ARK: Survival Evolved, Forza Horizon 5, Grand Theft Auto 5, and both Red Dead Redemption games. I don't really have favorite songs, but if I did, they'd probably be La Da Dee by Cody Simpson or like, every song from AJR. I do have a favorite music genre though, and that's synthwave. My favorite movies are Brother Bear, In The Heights, West Side Story, Wonka, and Secretariat. I like flower symbolism and flowers in general. I also have a fascination with cars, and my favorite is the Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution. Also, and this is very important, I love cats. I'm not gonna post very specific stuff on here, or very often. Probably a lot of Murder Drones things, lots of writing. Not good writing, likely just silly little scripts. I would like to mention I'm not likely to reblog anything, because this is a silly little blog for my writing and I don't want to clutter it, if that makes sense. Very sorry about that. ;-; I am working on a total of 10 Murder Drones fanfics that I'll post on Archive of Our Own, but they probably won't be done anytime soon. I go in a process of scripting the entire thing, writing the entire thing, and then finally posting it on a schedule. My current priority is an AU that is going to give J a redemption arc, kind of. I mean, not really, since I don't think she could ever truly be redeemed, but she somehow ended up becoming my favorite MD character and now I'm going to make it everyone's problem. So, yippee! But as well, this AU will serve as a massive rewrite and include filler chapters to give all of the characters some much needed character development. The second fic that is my current priority is going to be a cute, short little story about the drones finding a cat and struggling to take care of the little guy. This cat was lovingly named by V, with its name being... NotOil. Yeah, that's a thing. (i'm deeply sorry, i found the name rather amusing) I don't just work on fanfics, of course. I have a whole ton of original stories, but they aren't of importance here. If you read this, thank you for your time! :)

Hey the transphobes are in the comments so let's get on with what other trans people are thinking.
This is obviously a fucking rouse, he's said blatantly misogynistic, and transphobic shit in the past. He's using us as a barrier for the controversy right now, and it's making us look bad. He's not getting a redemption ark, he's trying to use us as a scapegoat so he can get people to “like” him again. It a horrible ploy and it's clear to see he's not serious even if people are interpreting it as much.
No trans person should actually say “well he's got a point.”
Because he's lying.
He doesn't give a shit about upholding transgender rights, if he did he would also care about the rights of the women he rapes. No- he's using us a platform to try and get internet points for having “good points” that should be obvious.
This is not a win for us, if anything it makes us look bad. It makes him look like he's “misguided” in the eyes of the motherfuckers that watch him. And if he gets the traction he once had from the internet he’ll go right back to being transphobic again!
No one- I mean no one, take what he says seriously because at the end of the day we all know he's fucking lying. His followers would never believe it and he's using us as shelter for the war waged on him.
Give him hell, pull up the receipts. Bitches can change but make history and back it up if he truly wants to use us as a playing card. Don't make it easy for him to come back just cause he's spittinh things out that “make sense.”

Kk guys so this post is finna be long cuz I just finished episode 2 and I'm about to start 3 in a bit but here we're go
So to start off, the planters are doing a lot. Hop pop keeps running into scammers, Sprig keeps touching stuff and Polly keeps getting into fights. Or almost starts one.
So Anne has had enough, her parents give her some advice and so when the planters keep repeating the stuff there doing, Anne takes them to the mall and gives them task.
Polly has to make a doll with fighting, Sprig has to go around and not touch anything and of course Hop pop can't try to get things for "free."
If they don't do that well, they can't go back out- "EVVERRR."
See now, what I find hilarious is that Polly really doesn't care. She will throw hand with you at any given time, she doesn't care about ur age or any of that. I mean, SHE TRIED THROWING HANDS WITH A ONE YEAR OLD.
But she looks adorable in that hat tho
Anyways, here comes spring trying not to touch anything so he resorts to violence...
And hop pop is doing his thing. Anne at the time is trying to watch over them from above but a certain someone comes and distracts her and trust to spill some tea.
But to end this quickly, trouble starts up, Anne saves the Planters again and they get out the mall. Eventually at some point the planters will stop what there doing and get that stuff under control. But I don't want this post to be too long so I'ma go ahead and post part two of this episode about Sasha's redemption ark.
I'm seriously about to post it like right now so stay tuned till then. ✌️

I've seen you criticize Sonic Adventure 2's story. I know I will come off sounding like a fanboy, but I haven't seen you justify your critiques fully and when you mention them they sound nitpicky. I don't mean to nullify criticism, but being mad about an over the top, anime-esque, kind of dumb plot in Sonic (at least pre-Colors Sonic) is like being mad at an Arnold movie for having too much action. I hear people say there's plot holes or inconsistencies but I've never noticed any.
Sonic Adventure 2 is a notoriously poorly translated game. English speaking characters straight up say Japanese words, not because it’s cool, but because the voice director was Japanese and couldn’t wrap his mind around them saying anything but those Japanese exclamations.
Hence why you have Deem Bristow as Eggman saying “Yosh!”
There are also examples where the dialog straight up doesn’t make sense. In the final story, when the Biolizard disappears, Shadow runs up and says “Is that what Chaos Control is?!”
The line, properly translated, should be closer to “Was that Chaos Control?!” – implying that the Biolizard used Chaos Control to teleport itself out of the core and on to the nose of the space colony so it could force the ARK to crash in to the earth.
The game also glosses over tons and tons of details about Shadow’s creation, Gerald and Maria’s relationship to him, what happened to Maria, etc. Almost all of his motivation (and as such, his entire redemption) is a big, vague mess.
You don’t see the inconsistencies and plot holes because they’ve been patched up in subsequent media. Consider that most of what we actually know about Shadow comes from Rouge’s Report – a document written by Sonic Team and included with their official Japanese strategy guide.
Those details were further fleshed out in the Sonic X adaptation of Sonic Adventure 2 and the Shadow the Hedgehog game.
But taking Sonic Adventure 2 on its own, at face value, with the official English localization, a lot of questions are asked and many are never answered. Some of that is up to poor translation by a company that was known back then for having poor translations, but some of that is straight up due to vague writing, something Sonic Team only corrected after the fact.
Like, you’re welcome to think I’m being too harsh on Sonic Adventure 2, because I’ve always been kind of harsh on that game, but there are also objective problems with that story.

do you like echo/becho? i ask because i feel like you're someone who's very good at seeing a wide variety of ships and characters in pretty nuanced ways. i personally really don't like either the character or the ship, especially after s5, but a lot of people seem to suggest that this is only because i'm blinded by love of bellarke (tbf i'm not much of a multishipper) or because i'm susceptible to internalized misogyny. personally i thought i just didn't find the whole thing well written but 1/
2/2 i do try to examine my personal biases when consuming fiction and my responses to it. like idk for me personally there was just no arc or substance for me to respond to but i thought i’d ask someone whose writing opinions i really trust so i can work out whether my dislike genuinely does just stem from me being immature or if the writing behind genuinely feels weak to anyone else?? thanks
this is a really good question and i’m going to start off by apologizing to becho shippers because my answer is very critical of canon becho (but obvs pro fanon becho, bc i’m pro fanon everything p much).
i have to tackle this from two sides: as both a critical/meta fan and a transformative one. which is to say, the critical side of me has a lot of problems with echo, but the transformative side of me addresses those problems with, “but how would i fix it?”
first i’ll tackle my issues with echo as a character. she’s been around since s2; she has a background character’s amount of depth with the screentime of a side character, which is to say i agree with you, she’s poorly written.
take miller, for example. he’s a side character fleshed out well. every season, we know what he wants and where his allegiance lies. we know who he loves and what he wants to protect. gaia is another good example of a side character whose drives and motivations are simple enough to understand so that their screentime is in proportion to the amount of depth they possess. gaia is the flamekeeper. she holds a small but integral portion of the conflict because her loyalty in s5 is split in 3 ways: to blodreina, to indra, and to the flame. she is absolutely integral, in a small but efficient way, in resolving the story of s5.
which leads me to ask: what’s echo’s piece of conflict? she works with raven to get back to the ship, etc. she wears a shock collar and looks mean. she backs up bellamy in terms of brawn. she has a little sex scene. the season could have stood on its own without her. she could have died at the end of s4 and s5 would have been exactly the same.
which leads me to becho.
if echo was meant to exist as anything other than a wedge between bellamy and clarke, we would have seen echo’s redemption arc. this is a woman who killed bellamy’s ex gf. who has betrayed his trust over and over again. and now for some reason we’re supposed to just take jroth’s word for it that she did ~~something to get back into bellamy’s good graces. in four seasons we have not seen a single positive interaction between the two of them, nor even playful/fond antagonistic actions a la bellarke s1. other than the mt weather rescue of s2, it has since been “you are thine enemy” the entire damn time, right up until echo has a knife to her gut and suddenly bellamy is like “lol stop you need to stick around for useless cockblockage six years from now”
the becho reunion scene i think is pivotal, because bellamy and echo are kissing in the foreground, out of focus, while clarke is in the background, in focus, watching. i think becho’s existence is solely for that scene. because i don’t think there’s anyway to interpret that other than, at worst, jealousy, and at best, “oh fuck he moved on.”
in other words, echo is a plot device. so you’re not internally misogynistic for disliking her, she’s being objectified by the story itself.
i would not at all be frustrated by her or dislike her if we just saw literally any lead up to their relationship. but all we get is a black hole of “TRUST US IT HAPPENED OK.” also, if bellamy expresses actual romantic interest in echo or literally any other character i guarantee me and my multishipper/poly brethren would be all over it. but we don’t get to see bellamy’s romantic interest come to fruition, because it always happens between seasons. i think this matches up with my theory that jroth has pulled a joss whedon on bellamy and his character exists only to torture The Ideal Man. but that’s maybe a rant for another time.
now, as a transformative fan, i do see plenty of seeds of potential. i’m very drawn to untrustworthy characters who slowly develop loyalty toward one person at the expense of everyone else. bodyguard characters. that alone i think is becho’s single commonality and why they’re together: if bellamy is knight to clarke’s queen, echo was lieutenant to roan’s general, and they were trapped together for years, grieving over the loss of the people they admired most. i can see – though it is not what we call “on the page yet” – the logic behind their courtship.
i’m interested in echo’s grieving over roan and how it might differ from bellamy’s over clarke, and the exploration of her actual feelings for him (which, if i were to write it would be something akin to erotic worship, a topic i’m deeply invested in exploring). i would like to see that toxic kind of love transplanted onto bellamy, and bellamy greedily accepting it because he’s lonely and desperate and grieving over his own loss. i like the potential hideousness of their relationship, the entrapment they experienced together, both in mt weather and on the ark, and how that might transfer onto the page in the hands of someone willing to take it seriously.
i would never write them as an endgame ship because i wouldn’t be able to resolve that toxicity and therefore would only ever be able to offer them a HFN ending. if i perceive their love correctly, it’s not a sustainable kind of love at all. it’s comforting yet destructive, a vice like an addiction, i imagine.
in short, becho has so much potential, but it’s poorly wrought and managed, and both of their characters are experiencing a massive disservice – echo as an actual character at all, bellamy as a viable romantic hero.

"To be clear the original anon didn't say anything about gyu getting with her. They just were wondering about a lifetime where he knows her from birth and is around her as an uncle."
Yeah... when I mentioned that lifetime I did NOT envision him ever getting romantic with her in that lifetime at all. Take romance out of the picture this time. It really would have been a test of selfish vs selfless love, an opportunity for him to learn to see her as a person on her own right first and foremost and putting her happiness and well being above anything else. Romantic love is not the only meaningful type of love that exists. His only role in that lifetime would be aiding her family (I imagine maybe a middle aged single mother with a low paying job having to raise her alone, and beomgyu is their neighbor that sometimes give her food or try to help her find better work opportunities. he would dissappear for a few days sometimes and never talk about it, which seems suspicious, but since he is the only person that don't look down on her for her living condition and helps whenever he can, she is thankful for his presence) and answers when she asks for help. She will not have a crush on him, she won't even consider him a friend... just that reliable uncle next door that is always nice to her mom. It is literally him putting away everything else and doing what's best for her. Forget his demonic nature, forget the romantic history their souls shared in other lifetimes, forget any selfish feelings in his heart. He just needs her to be safe, healthy and happy. That is why I said this could be the most wholesome of all lifetimes, and maybe his redemption ark. Where he finally understands that she is not his princess, she is not a possession he is entitled to, and that if he really cares about her he will respect her and put her well being above anything else even if that means they would never be together again. (Obs.: if you end up deciding that oc would look the same in every lifetime, than it can still be creepy, because the dude has visual memory and I don't want him having flashbacks while looking at her developing body... eww... so in that case I would be against writing of that lifetime. I would only do it if oc looks and sounds completely different in each lifetime.)
Or it could be straight up horror with all the creepy stuff, Jacob and Renesme style 💀💀 with a twist. But that would be too much. No one in their right mind would be ok with pedophilia and/or grooming. How someone would even consider the possibility of me suggesting romance between a child and a centuries old creature, is beyond comprehension 💀.
~♡anon
although what you're describing is super wholesome, the whole premise under which the punishment is carried out is because they're both extremely selfish and obsessive, hence why i think he won't be able to keep holding back and why i don't want to write that lifetime. also like i said he can rationalize it, namely he would see her as his princess and her soul as eternal therefore he might not see an issue with it as they souls of both are the "same age". obviously that is still problematic which is why i don't want to write it, especially that this is a dark fic from the start and it doesn't make sense for the characters to suddenly start acting righteous to fit our modern standards of what is right or wrong (not saying that this sort of relationship is up for debate. it's not. but expecting a character from a thousand years ago to have the same morality as present day people is ludicrous. idk if i'm making any sense or not but yeah that's why i don't want to write it)

Hey, I'd like to comment on that post you just reblogged. Yeah Shane wasn't the wokest person in the world back when he started but he changed, grew and apologized and truly doesn't hold that problematic behavior anymore. He's been on yt for like a decade or more now and I think people can change and become better people. I don't think it's fair to judge people over stuff they did or said years ago if they've proven they bettered themselves over time. I won't talk for the others bc idk
Hi Anon! I’m definitely not mad at you, you haven’t done anything wrong, and thank you for explaining the deal with Shane since I didn’t know anything about him. Please don’t worry!!
Lol this is a long response so I’ll give ppl the chance to skip it with a read more and hopefully it shows up but if it doesn’t im sorry!!!
And I actually got your first message and then went and googled him and found his apology video from 2014 because I saw what you said about him changing and while I don’t think that video in and of itself is sufficient proof of change, because like u said anyone can apologize, it did seem pretty sincere? There were moments where his phrasing came off less like ‘im sorry for hurting u’ and more like ‘im sorry u got offended/u think im racist’, but tbh that wasn’t my biggest issue. My biggest issue is that he said he didn’t know what blackface was until 2014 when he was well into adulthood, and was just using it for comedic means. This struck me as odd because 1) tbh i kind of didn’t believe that but mainly struck me 2) because there are little children who grow up learning about racism before they hit double digit ages because that’s how life (in the US at least because ive only ever lived there) is for people of color. And while i think if u truly don’t know something, that’s not on you, i also think that part was really indicative of the split in the way some people are forced to live their lives and the way some people can live their lives. But, again, I don’t think this video is enough to prove he’s changed and I personally don’t have much interest in the projects he’s doing now with the Jake Paul kid or Jeffree star. I do think the documentaries are a really cool idea, but I also think in general not everyone needs a redemption ark (or like deserves one especially if they haven’t made any indication that they want to change) or like an expose. I’m not sure what Shane’s goals are with these series, but it may just be that Shane isn’t for me. I haven’t made a final decision yet tbh because he may have some neutral videos that i really like :)
BUT i also agree with you about call out/cancel culture being unproductive in that, in addition to bringing up finished chapters of reformed people’s lives, it undermines a lot of actual valid commentary which gets mushed in with people bringing up old shit because they think sounding woke is a form of social capital. If there is true growth, then those ppl calling a person out probably aren’t really ‘woke’ or calling out for the purpose of justice or awareness or whatever. But ur right, ppl totally can change! I think there are lots of great examples of that. I hadn’t watched the apology video when i reblogged the thing about Shane, and while I’m not sure watching it really did anything in his favor, I’m more informed now which can’t hurt.

I added onto your post but Tumblr ate my reblog--I feel another thing people don't realize about Endeavor is he was EXTREMELY self aware of what he was doing, like he didn't beat up Shoto/his own wife so "Shoto could be strong and beat All Might because I care about his future", it was so he can be petty and get at All Might for his own satisfaction, and that's another reason why his redemption ark won't work-he knew that was all wrong and did it anyways, thus he deserves just full consequences
mmh, I agree and disagree.
The way I read his character, he was aware that what he was doing was for his own selfish benefit, yes, but I also don’t think that he did any of it while being conscious that it was an extremely fucked up thing to subject his own family to, people he should’ve cherished instead. I mean, the first time he was shown to actually reach that realization
was in chapter 93. It’s only during this moment that it (frigging finally) dawns on him that ruining his wife and son’s lives was fucked up of him. Never before did he ever show any sympathy for them, or any regret. Or even the awareness of being an abuser.
The thing is, up until this moment, Endeavor didn’t even think of Shouto as his own person. There’s an excellent meta on this topic here that I absolutely recommend reading (if graphic discussion of abuse is not a harmful topic for you). That post does an amazing job of dissecting how Enji thinks of Shouto as merely an object, someone that is entirely his own possession. A recipient for his genes and ambitions. Back then, he didn’t even consider the possibility of Shouto wanting anything different than being made into Enji’s perfect heir. His brain looked something like this:
He cared for nothing else. He married Rei to make weapon-children, and neglected those that didn’t come out as strong as he wanted them to be. This man never stopped to question what the fuck he was doing. He just did it. He calls it “despair” but it really just was an unhealthy obsession.
But, the thing is, he still did those things. The realization that he fucked up came more than 20 years late, so it doesn’t mean much. Also, between the above mentioned chapter 93 and the present arc there’s literally nothing. It’s not like he reaches that conclusion and tries to do something about it. Nah. His character growth is literally treated as an afterthought.
Now, I want to point out why that lack of action is relevant:
Bakugou, too, only just recently grew up enough to realize that attacking people without hesitation is twisted. Bakugou’s not yet to the point where he understands that this lesson is true for himself as well, because he used to attack Izuku out of nowhere all the time in middle school. But arc after arc, he took so much narrative punishment that he eventually came to question his entire mindset. His growth was not sudden or out of nowhere: it can be testified through every arc so far. it was slow, measured and realistically portrayed. A midset of toxic masculinity (like that Bakugou and Endeavor share), so deeply rooted that it shapes your entire worldview and the way you interact with people all around you, isn’t demolished in a matter of days. It took Bakugou 164 chapters of repeated personal failures to even *****consider***** the possibility that he might have been wrong, and that the fault of his misery wasn’t just other people raining on his party. That’s how real life works. Donald Trump won’t just wake up one day and realize he’s a huge misogynistic, racist, sexist, machist, xenophobe asshole. But Endeavor did.
That’s what I’m pissed about. That his redemption arc is too convenient narrative wise, and that his change of heart is far too rushed. It feels like cheap writing on Horikoshi’s part. Like, one moment he’s showing characters talking critically about him, rightfullysaying that he’s a jackass and that he should pay for it, and the next - literally the next panel - he’s implying that being sorry and willing to do better is enough to warrant a redemption arc, because society needs a hero who’s willing to fill the hole that All Might’s retirement left behind. Because everyone’s scared and in need of someone to make them feel safe again.
I’m sorry for everyone who’s willing to give him a second chance, but I’m side-eyeing Horikoshi super hard for this cheap portrayal of abuse. Either you do it right, or you don’t do it at all. It’s just not fair to all abuse survivors who are reading his manga.
If so many people “whine” about it, then shouldn’t that be an indicator that there’s something wrong with the narrative? I mean, people don’t just complain about stuff like this because they like to be “negative” or “whiny” or “insufferable” like some people are saying… What the fuck… Why is tumblr so anti critical readings of stories? You can say that something is badly written and still enjoy the story as a whole. Horikoshi is human too and he can make mistakes… It’s not the fans’ job to make excuses for him, and this idea that you’re only “a true fan” if you only ever like every single detail is childish as hell… No literary critic ever thinks that black and white, you know? Just saying.
That said, the story is still on-going, so I guess there’s time for something to ‘go wrong’ with his redemption. That’s all I’m hoping for to save this arc tbh, because right now it’s pretty shitty

As women, we have an extraordinary capability to endure bullshit, especially our own. And we need to see that. We need to see our own internal power struggle and corruption, not in the context of external power structures, but in terms of the choices we make. We continue to adhere to realities that aren't aligned with our personal resonance, and completely discount our innate power and ability to stand in our truth, regardless of what people say, just like Maryam calayhassalaam. We continue to engage in disempowering mindsets like projecting our worth and strength on men we perceive as better able to do for us what we feel we can't. This is the bizarre irony; in the one realm where we really do have an advantage and the upper hand, we sit back and wait to receive from men as a token of our worth.
Why? Because as women, we've agreed to extract our worth from how people validate and react to us. Whether we admit it or not, we crave approval because that's the only recognition we can take without feeling overwhelmed by guilt and shame. This is also because we've placed our locus of control externally that slyly feeds a victim mentality of us doing everything right but never getting acknowledged for it. Well duh. We stray from our truths for fear of alienating people, and then we're surprised when reality reflects back to us our inauthenticity?
Society is fucked up, yes,but a big part of the reason is because of us. Because we continue to seek redemption and approval in a cesspool when women have the sacred role to safeguard and rejuvenate the moral and spiritual fabric of society. We've become morally decadent, and that's not in regards to men. I'm talking about our connection to the divine ; we've made men into our idols and what we gauge life by, and they in turn gave us conditional acceptance. So we cut ourselves down and up and burnt ourselves out to attain those conditions. But we can't complain that men don't give us unconditional acceptance, that we have to jump through these hoops that give us body dysmorphia and eating disorders, when we agreed to it. Then on top of that, we've misunderstood what empowerment and liberation means. It does not mean that others treat us right and well. It's deeper and primordial and divine. No one can take away the inherent worth we were created with. I repeat : no man can take away the worth and value that has been divinely assigned to us.
The problem is that we've lost contact with that because we've evaded our roots. We've fled our depths, our spiritual wombs. We've flocked to the fruits that are popular for a season or two, only to shrivel and die in the winter cold. And at once we're flung back into the blank existential canvas we escaped. We're faced with the culmination of centuries worth of distorted feminine energies. You see patriarchy didn't arise in a vacuum. It arose because we became corrupted and intoxicated with the power we hold when we're balanced. So we got toppled, and patriarchy took over. And though it seems like we were dissenting victims, we adjusted to the new realities and made excuses for it. It's easier to pin a 5 year old girl down for fgm than go up against the community you rely on for your identity. Between the truth and conformity, you’ll take conformity any day. And that's a part we sweep away when we talk about systematic inequalities. But that is something that will corrode us from within, and we won't have anyone or anything on the outside to pin it on.
So, in these days of upheaval, we must find our way back by recalibrating ourselves with the divine feminine energy. This, by balancing the masculine and feminine energy that exist in both genders; this is a joint effort of ending the dualities. No one is exempt from this flood that is upon us, and we must build an ark of transcendence.
Trust me when I say, there's nothing more empowering for young girls to learn than unconditional self-acceptance. And that can only come about by us embodying the divine feminine template. By not viewing ourselves in the context of the status quo, or in the context of people's approval. We have to go outside the comfort zone, like Maryam was ordered when she was due to give birth. And when she came back to the city, she was told to not be defensive or try to explain herself to people. Allaah vindicated her, protected her in ways He wouldn't have had she not made space for that by trusting the truth. She didn't hold any doubts about the truth of what had happened, and she left those whose minds and hearts were clouded and swayed by doubts and illusions to Allaah. Those who insisted on obscuring and warping the truth about Maryam and her son, Ciisa calayhimasallaam were destroyed for their arrogance and relentless rejection of the truth.
So you need not worry about others not getting it or others erasing your truth because you're backed by cosmic legions dispatched by Allaah.
So because of their breach of their covenant, We cursed them, and made their hearts grow hard. They change the words from their (right) places and have abandoned a good part of the Message that was sent to them. And you will not cease to discover deceit in them, except a few of them. But forgive them, and overlook (their misdeeds). Verily, Allaah loves the gooddoers.
(Al-Ma'idah:13)
