Hiii :3 since we are talking Macbeth lately, have you by chance watched Throne of Blood(pretend a question mark is here my question mark key on isn't working rn sob) It's a 1957 Macbeth adaption that places Macbeth in feudal japan as a war drama and it is!!!! Like!! Well first of all the actual film on a technial level is very good imo, beautiful costumes, acting, writing that somehow mimics the original plays poise and beauty without taking any lines verbatim. There's some super fun imagery like Macbeth's analogue Washizu being constantly associated with centipedes in his home and war flags while Banquo's analogue Miki is associated with rabbits, some crazy fun to dissect symbolism there if you draw from Japanese mythology and folkore as is probably intended. Theres some plot shifts that like. Make me absolutely foam at the mouth ( spoilers now so come back later I suppose if anyone reading this wants to watch it and be surprised by the changes, its quick about 2 hrs and available on archive.org free and all that good stuff, also TW for child/infant death in it and in discussion going forward) Macbeth is actually happy to let the films Banquo and Fleance take over given his lack of heir but the thing that makes him change his mind and attempt to kill them is Lady Macbeth telling him she's expecting. Later in the film the child is stillborn and rather than Lady Macbeths death THIS is the death that pushes Macbeth over the edge to total tyranny and into his final battle and the 'out damned spot!' scene is reinterpreted as in part being, well, the child's blood. It's :( mh.
But yeah, its good, major recommend, love myself a guy thats doing so, so bad, which of course mackers is, the whole time. Also Macbeth is killed by his people, all firing arrows at him at once rather than any one guy, I think thats neat!! Good scene!! The betrayer is betrayed by his own people, violently, publicly, collectively, decimated by the ones he claimed to be fighting for. Good adaption.
OH MY FUCKING GOD???? I WAS GONNA GO "OH IS THIS THE GUY WHO MADE RAN? (THE KING LEAR MOVIE)" BUT THEN THE SPOILER PART KNOCKED ME OVER THE FUCKING HEAD HOLY SHIT. also that ending. ough
