That should have read "I never had either of those work right, straight from the gun shop." That was my bad, so I wont comment on your reading comprehension skills. And you can keep your .300BLK and 5.56, I prefer the 30-30 and SKS I've been using for over 40 years. Both of which I've used in combat back in the 1980's.
Also, please point out where I said my only firearm was a SA XDM? Oh wait you can't because I didn't. Instead of asking, you did the cowardly gun snob thing and acted like an ass. My safe has many different firearms, all of them have different purposes and work properly, without spending 2X the MSP at a gunsmith to work right. None are some over priced item to show off and brag about to your range buddies. So if you want to think I'm some Fudd then go ahead, I expect nothing less from a coward, who didn't bother to ask civil questions.
Gun snobs and cowards (unwilling to have honest discussion, but goes on the attack like all cowards) are what is wrong with the gun community on here and in general, and you have shown over and over that you are both. Now if you wish to act like someone who wants to help others or have an honest discussion, then change your attitude Bucky boy. If not then have a good week anyway.
I actually respect that you're still rocking a 30-30 and an SKS. They might be outdated, but in the right hands I bet they'll still get work done.
You didn't say that, and I didn't say you did. I paraphrased you, claiming that your go-to carry gun is the SA XDM if I recall correctly. Whatever else is in your safe is not my business. You also don't know a thing about what I have, despite your assertion that it consists of overpriced range toys. Trust me, I wish I could afford that sort of thing in this economy. Deployment-pay savings from 2020 and the charity of family members is the only reason I'm going into marriage debt-free and can pay for the wedding I'm having.
Old-timer, you're the one shitting on combat-proven and duty-proven brands (or at least the Glock is, dunno about the M&P) and gun platforms, while also arguing in favor of a caliber I can only describe as "indecisive," and a pistol platform that's an imitation of the one you hate, made by a manufacturer with a rather stained public image. I myself do not exactly look upon Springfield Armory with respect. So, yes, a young buck's kneejerk reaction was to make fun of your opinions because they contradict popular wisdom, and you've chosen to get upset and write me an essay about it, when you could just write me off as an inexperienced punk in your book and ignore me, like many of your generation tend to do.
But, it sounds like you really want to have a discussion on this, so please, why don't you tell me your thoughts on .40 S&W? I get what you're saying that nobody wants to be on the receiving end of it, but that's not a sufficient argument for its usefulness. I mean, I could apply that logic to argue for paintball and airsoft guns as self-defense weapons.
Why didn't the M&P and the Glock work for you out of the box? I'm not personally a user of both, but I'm willing to bet most units out there of both platforms have had no aftermarket upgrades, or at least very little, and they both have established reputations as very reliable and practical guns, albeit imperfect. Everyone knows Glock's stock sights are worth upgrading if one has the money, and they couldn't make a good trigger until Gen 5 from what I've been able to test out. But fixing those flaws isn't required for it to be useable, and shouldn't cost anywhere near the sticker price of the gun, let alone twice it.
