Astarion needs so much therapy.
#astarion#and yet it is so therapeutic to see him kill his abuser#i mean I wouldn't do that#but i wouldn't lie and say I didnt spend a good decade or so fantasizing about burning a church down#with the priest the staff and half the congregation inside#but I was a child newly free from years of torment and angry at the world with the misguided belief it would help others#and so is he#despite the fact he is over 200#ive had time to heal and let go of my anger and he needs time to do the same#i could not imagine 200 years of that sort of hell or the amount of time and work it would take him to even begin to mentally recover#bro would need his entire immortal life to deal with this#what I am trying to say is that a lot of people relate to him#but also that some of his behaviors and beliefs can be a part of his trauma#gaining power over others before they can do the same over you/make you a victim again is common as well#lashing out towards totally unrelated people who share some sort of link with an abuser? YEP#some gurs beat Astarion to the point his choices were death or becoming a spawn and living 200 years in literal hell#it is so easy to see all gurs as just like the ones who hurt him and/or take it out on all of them#i could write an entire presentation on astarions trauma and people relating to or seeing themselves in it#spoilers#abuse tw

WELCOME BACK TO TUESDAY INTERVIEW! (that is definitely being held on a Tuesday and not a Wednesday!)
I'm you host Annie and today we are once again here with the amazing, the breathtaking, the out-of-this-world talented SUMMER!!! *standing ovation*
Now, Summer. I've noticed that your inbox has been flowing with appreciation for your work, an appreciation that —if I may say so— is entirely deserved. Your Astarion fic "A Lover's Folly" has breeched into the hearts of many Baldur's Gate 3 fans with its emotional depth, flawed characters, impeccable prose and a dose of tension and spiciness that is never not appreciated. When you started writing it, were you expecting this amount of people to connect with your words?
Moreover, if I'm not mistaken, there's another Astarion work in the making which will see your Tav, Zayis, a character already so beloved by the public, as the protagonist! Of course, I —as many others— am already thrilled, but what are you planning for this fic? What themes do you want to share and include in your fic? What do you hope to convey? And most importantly, on a scale of 1 to 10, how much will these characters (and thus your readers) suffer?
again annie, omfg these asks are killing me because i know how much fun you're having. literally the most perfect presenter/interviewer/bard energy i could ask for.
to answer your first question, no i absolutely did not expect anything out of this fic. i literally started writing it for myself. i think i was half way through act 2 when it finally said fuck it i have to write about the vampire man and coincidentally saw my buddy laur posting about a writing challenge to write 12 fics in 12 days.
obviously i failed that but i guess the amount i was posting in the beginning gained a lot of traction? or i don't know, maybe it was just a right time thing but out of nowhere it blew up and now, here we are 10 chapters (and another fic on the way) later.
a fic that i am very excited about. (great segway huh??) it's become my baby on the side of a lover's folly. i think about it constantly and can't wait to share because it has all my favourite things in it. hurt/comfort, enemies to lovers, dark themes relating to mental health and the ongoing struggle of healing!!
basically, i just really want to emphasize that no everyone's perfect, especially characters, and that progressing through various traumas in an attempt to heal looks different for everyone!
that being said, on the suffering scale it'll probably range from a 6-10 depending on the character. :)
