I've heard that it's very important you don't let Boss Salmonids end up between your team and the egg basket, which sounds wise. Especially Steel Eels and Scrappers, which output a lot of ink and love getting in the way!
A Flyfish with one of its missile launchers destroyed will deploy half as many rockets, and it'll only target one employee at a time rather than two. So if you don't have the time or ink to knock out both launchers, one is still way better than none. Sometimes I'll toss a bomb into a Flyfish on my way by without sticking around to throw the next - especially when I'm being chased.
Don't go under a Slammin' Lid when you're in your life ring! Your coworkers trying to revive you won't be able to shoot through its forcefield, and it will be very embarrassing for you and them.
Sometimes the more aggressive Boss Salmonids are best lured closer to the basket before you defeat them. Maws is a perfect example, since it loves to chase, it doesn't leave much ink behind, and it's one of the least dangerous as long as you don't get pinned down by something else. Rather than splatting it near the shoreline and having to carry the eggs all the way to the basket, let it follow you back there (ideally while you're delivering the eggs dropped by another boss), and you'll be able to take out the Maws and deposit all its eggs in the blink of an eye. Steel Eels and Scrappers also love to chase, so they can be worth luring a little closer, but don't get carried away since they can cause a lot of problems near the basket.
Salmonids aren't slowed at all by ink, so inking somewhere that none of your team is likely to go is a waste of your time and ink. The Salmonids will quickly cover it up on their own the moment you look away.
Walls are like floors, but better!! Most Salmonids can't spread their green mucus-y slime on the walls, and many of them are also incapable of chasing you up one. Don't ever forget that an inked wall isn't an obstacle, it's a doorway. And it's locked to your enemies!
Also, another thing you shouldn't forget: Your specials!!!! Don't hesitate to use them, even in Waves 1 or 2. Failing on Wave 3 doesn't deduct from your rank, or so I've heard. So during the first two waves, don't play like your goal is to beat Wave 3 - play like your goal is just to get there. And there's no bonus or anything for finishing your shift with unused specials, so any that you haven't used by the end of the game are totally squandered. You might as well have burnt it in Wave 1 before the first Chum have even arrived! Don't ever be shy about using a special!!!!!! Don't worry about conserving them through Wave 3 for a King, either. When a King arrives, everyone's set to have one special left no matter what.
Speaking of specials, Wavebreaker is phenomenal for eliminating huge swarms of Lesser Salmonids without any ink, time, or effort. If you're splatted shortly after putting one down, it'll revive you by itself, so you don't need to call your coworkers over for help. The Booyah Bomb is a nice panic button because it lifts you way into the air, gives you a huge explosion to put wherever you want, and also offers plenty of time to think about where it should go and what you should do afterwards. The Killer Wail 5.1 can revive teammates from anywhere on the map and I'm pretty sure it pierces Salmonid armour, so it might even be able to take out Steelheads, Flyfish, & Drizzlers without relying on the usual techniques. I know that the Stingray could back in ye olde Splatoon 2 days, so maybe it's the same.
Launching golden eggs during a King Salmonid wave costs no ink! Launch eggs to your heart's content! Plus, they're apparently really effective against bosses. I've heard Golden Eggs are especially good for dealing with Flyfish, but I haven't had the opportunity to try that myself.
Chum and Smallfry pop instantly on contact with the Splat Brella's canopy. Next time it's in rotation, keep that in mind! This is especially nice during high tide, since you can stand right at the shore and stop a whole school of Lesser Salmonids right in their tracks.
Squid Rolls give you a little bit of invincibility. That can be really handy when a Stinger is after you!
DO THE TUTORIALS AAAAAAAA!!!! The number of times I've seen posts like this which includes tips that Grizz literally tells you during the tutorials is disturbing. Pay attention to all his advice, and get him to summon every kind of Boss Salmonid for you at least once. If you've already played it, you can play it again by going up to the book in Grizzco headquarters. I think it's to the right of the rewards desk?
Shoot down the Drizzler's torpedoes!! Please!!! Please do it!!!!!!! The storms are so annoying please prevent them from happening. If you can go for the one-hit, do it, but if not shoot down the torpedo anyways or everyone will get rained on for 300 years.
