You know last night I was up at like 5am and I happened upon these encouraging knight themed posts and it reminded me of Meta Knight.

He was my first ever comfort character I think. I looked up to him so so much, I thought he was the coolest dude ever and I would constantly daydream about living with him and and his crew on the Halberd and Meta Knight training me and all that. He was the dad I never had.

But I dropped it because I couldn't shake the thought of "He's so strict and disciplined and fueled by a drive to constantly improve. There's no way he'd be willing to deal with someone so nervous and sensitive and childish and tired like me, much less be impressed or proud."

But these knight posts made me rethink those old doubts. Meta Knight wouldn't be mad at me for being up so late. I'm an honorable thing trying my best. Tomorrow is a new day. Different people need different things, and needing gentle encouragement isn't pathetic or something to be ashamed of. I have my limits, but that doesn't make me weak.

I may not be the classic knight, with plate armor and broadswords and shields and oaths and fire. I'm a strange thing of winter and blue hour, taking up dual swords. I spin and twirl as I fight. I study and care for dragons. With my sharp teeth and the way my eyes shimmer in the dark, perhaps I'm not quite human.

Yet I am still a knight in my own right. I can join my fellow knights in merriment at the local tavern. We shall have each others backs in battle, our different skills complimenting each other. I am not alone.

And perhaps, as we set up camp and get some much-needed rest, a figure stands atop a broken pillar. Glowing yellow eyes scan the ground, and beneath a metal mask shining in the moonlight, the knight smiles. He always cared. He's always been proud of his daughter. Fabric shifts and morphs into bat wings as he takes off into the night sky.

went to a mother mother concert tonight (great crowd, great venue, great frantic energy, always like that here) just bc my friend had a spare ticket. so we rolled up together, both preferring their older music and being nostalgic for middle school, hoping they don't just play their new album, and me telling her that they blew up on tiktok and were cringe for a while, which she did not know, and. the fucking energy of this place. ok. so

it's a bbq place. but historic outdoor venue, nice stage

it's like 80% teenagers. this shifts later, but it is mostly white teenagers in the most black leather and gay and ostentatious alt getups you've ever seen. me n my friend are dressed plain practical butch for the weather but we look like preps next to these kids

we find a good spot in the middle where we can sit on a railing so we are a head above the crowd and don't block anybody's view. a group of 4 obviously queer and young kids stands in front of us

at one point, one turns around and signs to me that they think I look cool, then repeat themself in spoken english when I don't know enough asl to read that

I compliment them back, it's a lull between the openers so we strike up a short conversation w them & their friends. they're 16 and drove straight from school from the next city over and are driving back tonight. they're almost all autistic, queer as fuck, one's taking asl and is teaching the others, which is useful for this loudass concert (they directly tell me all this)

at one point 3 leave to get drinks and leave this one tiny black kid who looks like they're not having a great time. crowd has shifted to 20s & 30s ppl vaping & smoking around them, pushing in on their group's space, so I hop down and start clearing space, striking up a conversation, keeping the spots and letting the kid know me n my friend are safe and helping them chill out. this is in a long lull between openers and mm

these kids. are JUST like me and my friends in highschool. I was internally deeply deeply cringing, I saw so much of myself in them but esp the one I was talking to. no self awareness, such shit lives, trying so hard to grab onto happiness. they're such sweethearts and I know they got p overstimulated so I hope they made it home ok. I watched over their group until they left a little bit early. shoutout to the group of queer kids behind us too who were also nice and piped up at a few moments

so both opener bands were BANGERS. absolutely got the crowd riled, great stage presence, amazing music

then mm plays song blending into song, starts with verbatim (playing to their audience lol), and their show is every big hit they've had which goes over super well. sort of harder rock remixes of everything, really really cool vibe, great lights, great movement around the stage

there's a quick interlude before they play it's alright abt mental health, dedicating the song to ppl who are going thru shit rn, reminding everyone they're human and interjecting that into the song, it's nice

another interlude, this time to speak abt how they think it's really cool to see a new, sharper generation using their music to talk abt important issues, very transparently pandering and abt tiktok and trans issues w/out saying those words. still very supportive of trans ppl and "the ability for everyone to show up as they are" and identify however

at one point someone near the front unfurls a big gay flag and starts waving it

they play hayloft and then have a smooth solo singing interlude then hayloft ii and the lights go fucking insane. everyone screaming at the top of their lungs. people are headbanging, jumping, tons are filming, shit's off the wall

Secrets, you say?? Hmm, I can share some secrets 👀

What inspires you to go and write out a fic?

When a piece of media consumes me (in the way Beyond Evil has), my mind becomes inundated with possibilities. I'm naturally an overthinker in all areas of my life, and that extends to things I am passionate about. I feel this visceral need to explore the text provided, but also, the subtext. So, the media itself is a massive inspo. I am not the kind of person that can just write whenever I want. For me, writing is an arduous and tiring endeavour that takes me a long time to get through. I cannot write unless I have the bug for it- which makes finishing projects very... interesting. (I'm terrible at finishing books, I'm terrible at finishing fics... it's a problem) I do not tend to plan fics in advance. There are only 3 that I can say were minorly "planned" (Indoctrination, By Desire, and one that isn't written/published yet). But that's because they're all interconnected. Most of the time, the words just present themselves and I have to type them down otherwise I'll forget them forever.

I'll give an example of a few recent inspirations:

Blessed Hands was inspired by some real-life sad shit that I guess my mind needed to process

Your Love's Whore was written because a few weeks ago, there was a scorchingly hot day and I wanted to imagine what a jwds hot girl summer might look like

An unwritten fic I thought of last night was inspired by a scene from One Spring Night (I have an outline and gave it the creative title of "hallway". But I have no intention of actually writing it thus far)

Indoctrination was directly inspired by a cafedecanela post that I can't find nor have the time rn to find (but I will look later and link it)

Another huge inspiration/aid is music!!! I'm like everyone else and absolutely live for music. So, I use it to help direct what I want from a story (the emotions, atmosphere, the "vibe"). A few examples are:

Indoctrination was written whilst I listened to sappy, sad Korean rock on repeat for about 3 weeks straight

Your Love's Whore was heavily inspired by five songs in particular: . Posing in Bondage - Japanese Breakfast . Bedroom Hymns - Florence and the Machine . New Ways - Daughter . Your Clothes - Can't Swim . Your Love's Whore - Wolf Alice . and I listened to the album Brasilian Skies - Masayoshi Takanaka on repeat whilst actually writing as I struggled to write if I can hear English words, my brain gets distracted (I hope that makes sense)

I have a whole long-ass jwds playlist on Spotify (which I made as soon as I finished watching the show back in Feb). I love it so very much because there are some absolute bangers in there that are 100% jwds.

And I'm going to keep adding to it until I grow tired.

And how do you build the structure, think of the environment, and research?

Ooookay, now I'm actually going to have to give this a think. The wonderful thing about fanfiction is that a lot of the worldbuilding and aesthetic has been done for you. (Thank you to the cast and crew of Beyond Evil). So, it's quite easy to impose your own impression onto a piece and explore what's already been established. For the fics I have released, I did do research in the sense that I didn't start my fics first. By that, I mean, when I finished watching BE for the first time, I started writing an essay (which required a lot of research, rewatching the show, dissecting scenes, researching film theory, using my useless art degree lol) exploring the show's queer coding. I wrote about 15K words (mostly were just ramblings) until I realised that I needed to explore these characters in a more artistic way. This really stems from the fact that I feel so connected to Joo Won; he and I share a few unhealthy coping mechanisms... (it's the yikes times). I've always liked Joo Won; I didn't have to adjust to him, I always saw his pov and understood where he was going from. I just felt like I got him (which doesn't mean to say, I didn't also openly laugh at him), so I think I wanted to write to work through some identity stuff I have going on. I've trying to learn Hangul in my spare time, I love Korean cuisines so I've been naturally researching that in my personal life, I also love me some snooping- so I use google maps a lot to just look at South Korea (and anywhere in the world really) and gain an impression of what different areas are like. I look up historical events, I research pop culture, etc... and I basically just try to dive in and ingest as much information as I can to make the characters and their world feel as real as possible. When it comes to writing Joo Won, I also use my own experiences (as an English person) to influence his use of language and mindset. When I first wrote Indoctrination, my partner read some of it and told me to change some of my language choices because I used English slang that isn't very universal. I listened to some of the suggestions but not all because Joo Won would totally call people a "pasty dipshit wanker"; or use words like "chuffed", "gutted", "plastered", "dodgy" (and so on) and use the c-word like it's going out of style (as does almost every English person his age).

In terms of structure, I don't write chronologically. I just write whatever comes to mind and then piece it together and edit like crazy. However, I DO LOVE MAKING NOTES AND WRITING OVERLY DETAILED OUTLINES. So... I guess it depends on the story. My three surprise/procrastination fics that I didn't plan at all (Drone Bomb Me, take my name, and your blessed hands) are some of my favourites. (I wrote DBM in a day- which I don't think I have ever done before lol) We can contrast that against a fic I can't even begin to write because the words refuse to come to me, is living as an 8,000+ word outline.

So..... There's not a lot of method to my madness, just spiteful determination.

Yeah... I'm not sure what else to say. It's all just luck and stress to be honest with you. I haven't written fanfiction in years(!!!). Previously, I was writing an original piece that is currently taking a nap.

I think I have mentioned this to you previously but I'm so very grateful for your kind support and words of encouragement. They mean so, so much to me. I am just a wee insecure baby that is the poster child of dyslexia. I know very little about the proper use (grammar, etc) of my mother tongue because of an unconventional schooling experience, soooo to have you say such lovely things about my work, is just *chef's kiss and tears* perfection. There’s also Phil’s side of the library scene, which I went and I checked and have used molding to describe Phil’s intention towards Wilbur so... Victory for me! (even though I still don’t know what he wants to turn Wilbur into.)

Off the bat Phil start out with once again showing off how we'll he knows/can read Wilbur. He knew where he would be. Then he asks how Wilbur feels which might be a genuine question out of fear he pushed to fear (though he might just want to check if he ruined the game for himself). Or he’s trying to jab at Wilbur for losing control.

Then he tries to gain Wilbur’s favour (wording why?) by pointing out that at least he’s honest in his intentions. (which seems to be his main game plan) I’m assuming Puffy told him about the meeting unless the Badlands did. Maybe the entire thing was planned and he knew about it anyway, who knows. And when Wilbur asks why he finds him interesting he decides to answer with more honestly.

He’s trying to forge a connection between them. Answering ‘honestly’ (cuz let’s be honest, that not the full truth). Creating closness and some sort of intimacy (I feel like the claws almost making him bleed but that pressure is just light enough is a metaphor for their entire relationship). Complimenting Wilbur (or at least stating his importance and calling him interesting). And lastly comparing him to his younger self. Followed by exactly describing how be feels. Which has a lot of implications for Phil’s backstory, but this is already long enough.

Then he states his intentions, because he’s convinced he already has Wilbur where he wants and maybe he can get him to work along, maybe he’s just playing with his food some more. I do think Phil has 2 motivations for wanting to shape Wilbur: 1 he can’t bear to watch all this potential be wasted and wants to make good use of it. 2 Phil sees his younger self in Wilbur. This creates some sort of kinship. So he wants to help Wilbur by shaping him so he can get what he wants, which Phil think is the same as his younger self wanted.

Lastly, the banger lines, why do their conversations always end on such banger lines? The chills! Phil is convinced he can get whatever he wants and in this case that is Wilbur and that is terrifying. Because Phil’s convinced he already has him. He just has to wait for Wilbur to break and then he can build him up again how ever he wants to.
