I love people who explain a joke for their niche corner of the internet off to the metaphorical side so that the nosey, curious, and learning can also have a laugh.
#obviously i also love people who will explain any joke because that Aut do be Tism'ing#but specifically i love people who look at a joke only meant for a specific group of people with a certain level of knowledge#and decide to “share with the class” as it were#because I'm one of those weirdos that uses social media primarily as a gateway to educational content#which i did not realize was so strange until seeing a poll asking people why they're on here that didn't even... list that as an option#i can't afford college i get my education on here instead (this is a joke please do not piss on my poor)

I'm adding onto this.
I've spoken to people who have never been to America talk about America as though they know it like the back of their hand. They know the bare minimum about how the US's government functions and then they go and brag about their knowledge the exact same way a junior in an American high school talks about the German education system: "I'm so glad that's not me. I could never do it. I'm so lucky,"
They tell us to "vote for different people" as though gerrymandering and the electoral college aren't things specifically designed to manipulate our voting to get the results they want, like corporations don't spend MILLIONS of dollars in slander campaigns and misinformation campaigns to trick those who don't know better into thinking they're the better of two evils. If everything could be fixed by voting, it would be. And then, at the end of the day, the supreme court, which Americans do not get to vote for, can strip away rights if they're so inclined. The president can use executive order to do what he wants if the court is stacked. In 2016 Hillary Clinton won the popular vote, but the electoral college prevented her from getting into office. We didn't want trump in office. We did vote for the right people. But the game has been rigged from the start. Have you ever wondered why Americans have had to riot to get their rights instead of voting? No? You're lucky as all fuck to have never had to wonder.
And then, not being aware of this, Europeans have the gall to make fun of us for it as though we begged and screamed and demanded this. There are videos online, usually on TikTok, where Europeans pose the question "is it time to stop laughing at the US?" And I mean this from the bottom of my heart, if you've been laughing at us the past couple of years, fuck you. Since the day Donald Trump stepped into office, things went from bad to worse, and if your knee-jerk reaction was to laugh at us as he attempted to dismantle LGBTQ+ rights, supported terrorist groups, encouraged racism, and stacked the SCOTUS so that they could continue to decimate our rights AFTER he left office, then fuck you, fuck you so much.
This isn't a "oh silly America being silly America, when will you learn?"
This is a nightmare. Living here as anyone other than a rich, Christian, cishet white man is a fucking nightmare.
Over 1,000,000 people have died from covid. There have been over 27 school shootings in this year alone, in one week, including the Uvalde shooting, there were 17. There has been a formula shortage and people have been buying every can they get their hands on just to mark up the price so they can make money - babies are dying right now. Babies. All for the sake of a quick cash grab. Companies are allowed to poison our water because those environmental protections have been stripped. Most Americans live paycheck to paycheck because corporations are buying up all of the houses to rent out at ridiculous prices that we can not afford. Wages have been stagnant for decades, and the poorest people in this country die because they can't access life saving medicine, food, or water. There is a homelessness epidemic and an opioid crisis - thousands of people are dying.
You were laughing at that?
You were joking about that?
If Americans joked about the terrorist attacks in France, we'd be fucking done for. If we joked about any European national tragedy the way you fuckers joke about ours, we'd be crucified upside down. But for some reason Europeans think it's great fun to joke about how American kids have to have bulletproof pads in their backpacks so they don't get murdered in class. Y'all joke about how we don't have universal healthcare. Y'all joke about how trans people are treated here.
I don't care if it's "just a joke". People are dying. Right now. And with Roe overturned even more people are going to die, but I guarantee you I will see non Americans joking about this left and right for weeks instead of treating it like the tragedy it is, Europeans especially.
Your superiority complex is showing.
if i see any non-americans making fun of this disaster i’m genuinely going to start a rampage.
#wow this isn't my usual content#but i am so mad#and i am so tried#its very easy to laugh and make jokes when you know you will never have to experience it isnt it?
