working in various library systems for 5+ years (esp youth/school ones) really makes me feel like Nobody Wants to Write a Beautiful Sentence anymore. and like i know i’m just being led by nostalgia, but now for example. all the YA books we get are written as if they’re instagram infographics made by liberals rather than novels

#there’s always trends to everything i know and this is just the current one #and in a lot of ways i think it’s cool that authors are trying to like. teach young ppl about activism and stuff it’s just so depressingly #one dimensional and uninteresting craft wise when we KNOW that doesn’t have to be the case #i can’t pick up another acquisition that uses therapy language and feels copy and pasted from millennial twitter #and the process of publication for YA audiences obviously means that anything really radical is generally edited or watered down. sigh #i’m talking a lotta shit for someone who hasn’t consolidated my stuff into a real piece of fiction
