So I just finished ep. 155 I wanted to write something before. But I decided it would be best until I finished S3.
Boy, was that an emotional whiplash.
So first off, with the (relatively) less intense matters of Yubel's duel vs Amon. So Amon kept working under Yubel and was fully aware that they had possesed Johan. But then he broke free of them when he summoned Exodia. It was a very smart and well played duel. But Yubel was extremely cunning and them using the darkness in other people's hearts thing sealed the deal.
Then we had that super intense duel of Yubel vs Judai. Since Judai was scared of attacking Yubel in fear of hurting Johan, it was a very nice touch that both Neos and the Crystal Beasts guided him since those are the cards closest to them both.
I knew eventually Judai would use super polymerization to fuse Neos and Rainbow Dragon. I liked the design but maybe because I am partial to dragons I very much liked the Rainbow Dragon by itself better. Too bad it literally didn't do anything in that first duel but at least that saved Johan's soul.
Seriously that ship be sailing like Yubel was jealous of everyone around Judai but Johan held a bit more of that jealousy. She called him weakling and fool. Like ffs she even asked if the love Judai's past life gave her now belonged to Johan. (I wouldn't put it that way tbh, it's just different sorts of affection that rose from different lifetimes). I saw some posts of people questioning that Johan’s body not disintegrating was a plot hole. It isn’t if we remember that the whole dying after a duel is BS and Yubel was just sending them to another dimension. So they just chose not to send Johan, they had Judai there already. I assume this is also the reason why Judai’s didn’t “die” when his LP got to 0 in the duel vs O’Brian.
On another note, it was great that Judai came to terms with his evil side and instead of letting it invade it he just throve in the power it gave him. He needed it because Yubel as a monster was so OP it caused me pain.
Also, her definition of love was so twisted but it gave us an inside of an obssesive relationship. I wonder if, now that Judai purified them when they merged souls, her obssesion winded down. Or maybe her hatred for everyone around Judai.
This duel showed us just how much Judai had been forced to mature in such a short period of time, leading him to make the ultimate sacrifice. He reassured Sho he wouldn't give up on his life, but he merged his soul with Yubel fully accepting the fact that he may lose his identity. All of it to bring his friends back from other dimensions and to save Yubel from the Light of Destruction. He, in the end, did make some serious sacrifices and now we don't know yet how it will affect him and when he will be back.
The whole reincarnation thing was very interesting in the sense of giving a human side to Yubel which propels Judai to sacrifice his soul. When I saw that I remembered Judai and Johan's first meet in which they felt like they had met before. Makes me wonder if Johan had also lived some past life where he met Judai. (I'm sorry I love Johan too much I can't help but bring it back to him)
And another emotional thing was hearing Sho calling Judai Bro again. It felt like a stepping stone in the right direction.
Anyway, an emotional wreck and now I need to watch S4 like rn.
