"there's nothing more depressing than an unnoticed prank." hhhholy shit dude. there is NO way he realizes how much this reveals about him. it's outstripping him straight-up stabbing himself for attention and asking if he wasn't boring before he dies just bc i remember having to take a pause to process it when i read him say it the first time. his neglected child rizz...

"come to think of it, i once saw this anime that was also about a death game...the mastermind sacrificed a family member as the first victim to get the killing started." there's a lot of quotes that hint at kokichi remembering more than he should (i've been doing my best to collect them all here), but this one REALLY stands out. it's fascinating to me to think that he doesn't just know they're being broadcast, he knows they're in danganronpa. it makes me wonder if there's such a thing as "pregame" kokichi at all...

“think back to all of monokuma’s actions so far. whenever we tried to work together, monokuma would retaliate with a plan to make us suffer. it happened when kaede wanted us to cooperate, and again with these motive videos, right? which means, the more we try to cooperate, the more he’ll try to make us suffer.” we love when 'liar' characters are shockingly honest <3 but seriously, i've always been SO delighted by the idea of monokuma's teacher's pet, a character who sidles up to the killing game for their own safety, and kokichi gives me all i wanted from that and more.

"he can lie about a lot of things...but he can't hide the warmth of his hand." i couldn't do this without mentioning at least SOME of the hand symbolism so i chose the sweetest one. i had a friend say he always interpreted this line as kokichi having very sweaty hands which originally i thought was extremely silly but. doesn't it match the theme? that once shuuichi learns to accept kokichi, to wait for him to reach out by himself...he turns out to be just a normal boy who's nervous about this like anyone else?
