Back to camp, because after the fleshpit adventures, everyone is fucking wrecked.
Karlach, of course, has stuff to say, because she wasn't present in the meat basement for the big Gortash reveal.
(I tend to subscribe to the headcanon that everyone left at camp is able to view what's going on with the main party through the tadpole connection, and I feel very bad for everyone else who was in camp with Karlach while that reveal was going down. There are absolutely scorch marks around the camp and splattered supplies from her throwing things around.
I'm also thinking I'm going to go ahead and kick in the full-party mod once we hit Rivington. I was waiting until we hit the Bhaalspawn reveal to try and avoid bugging some things out but that's further away than I expected and I really wanna have Jaheira in the party ASAP. I *think* it will be okay, but if the cutscene in question doesn't pop as planned I can always remove the mod again.)
Tumblr media
"You saw Gortash, didn't you? What the fuck was he doing down there? Is all this because of him? The tadpole? The Absolute? HOW?!"
She sounds so agitated. :(
Tumblr media
"I don't know how this plot fits together yet," Rakha says curtly. "But we *will* stop him." Her vengeance against Ketheric kept her going this far; now, it seems, it's Gortash's turn - for her own benefit and for Karlach's.
Karlach is barely listening, still caught up in her own anger.
Tumblr media
"I was his bodyguard. I looked after him with my life. I trusted him more than anything," she snarls, her teeth bared like an animal as she looks back at a string of miserable memories. "He gave me away to Zariel just for kicks. He ruined my life just when it was starting! And now he'd use up the entire Sword Coast."
Fire flares around her body, a puff of heat blasting into Rakha's face. "He has to die," she roars. "And I'm gonna be the one who kills him!"
Tumblr media
Rakha has an uncharacteristically sad sort of look on her face during this little speech.
It's interesting, really - her seeing this from Karlach, and coming on the heels of the destructive rage she saw from Aylin against Ketheric's dead body.
These are not people she sees as like her, generally. Aylin is an emissary of a goddess of light. Karlach is eternally good-natured, kind, generous - all things Rakha by nature is not.
And yet both of them have moments of incandescent, destructive, murderous rage, when pushed to it sufficiently by circumstance.
Perhaps the beast in her head is not so unique as she thinks. Perhaps everyone has one, but they slumber more deeply while Rakha's wakes at the slightest sound and destroys everything in its path. She isn't sure if this makes her feel less broken or more so.
Whatever the case... this is, at least, something to which she can turn her bloodlust with purpose.
"We'll do it together," she says, her voice a quiet rasp in comparison to Karlach's roaring fury. "Whatever it takes."
Tumblr media
"He can't get away with what he's done," Karlach growls. The flames around her body start to ease a little, though her eyes still pulse with it. "To me. To us. He won't get away with it!"
A pause. She groans softly, rubbing at her chest as the engine's flare slowly dies down. "I can feel it," she mutters bitterly. "The engine. It's getting hotter. Louder. It's going to blow, if we don't find another way to fix it."
She scowls. "You know, Zariel may have put the fucking thing in, but Gortash gave her the go-ahead. You expect this shit from devils, but not from the people you care about..."
She trails off, rubs at her head. Rakha can see her struggling for control, for her usual jocular good nature. But it is isn't in reach just now, and her jaw works with tight, visceral fury.
Tumblr media
"Let's get to the city. Got business there I'm highly fucking keen to attend to."

Officially made it into Act Two. The Creche boss battle wasn't too bad; the dude's Legendary Action was pretty extreme but he also went down in one round so... oopsie. I actually had much more trouble with a fight I accidentally picked with random guards later. Mostly because Gale and Shadowheart had zero spells left.
Githyanki Inquisitor Legendary Action: when he's hit, he can summon a free 30 HP spiritual weapon ("psychic blade"), up to three times a turn. It made me extra motivated to kill him VERY fast. Luckily, the weapons die with him.
I feel like I should be writing this like it's RP, you know, "here are the decisions Durge made uwu" but oops.
Level 7! Lae'zel is Fighter 5/Paladin 2, Wyll is Bard 2, Durge is Druid 6/Monk 1 because getting my zombie army was too good to pass up. Everyone else is single class, but I think I'm gonna give Astarion a Ranger Dip. That said, my plan has hit a snag: everything in the Shadowlands is immune to my spores. When I reached the inn I was like 100 xp from leveling up, so I ran right out into the darkness again to look for some easy XP. Ending up wandering into the drider convoy, bullying them into giving me the lantern and wandering off alone in the dark, freeing the pixie, and then went right into Moonrise and saying hi to everyone there before wandering back to the inn. Never did it in that order before, and Jaheira did react when I got around to telling her: she's impressed I made it to Moonrise alone, and when I told her I didn't need Isobel because I had a magic lantern, she was like "don't be stupid, go see her." Fair enough.
As is usual for me, I left off before a hard fight. If Isobel goes down and I can't save scum it..............
honor run!!!
I'm level 4, planning on multiclassing people soon. Gonna make Lae'zel a Fighter/Paladin, maybe Wyll a Bardlock, Astarion gloomstalker assassin. Might also take a level or two of monk for Durge, we'll see.
I just cleared the goblin camp. Almost TPK'd ooooof. When I was fighting Minthara, ALL the goblins got aggro'd. I actually took her out no problem, but the Swarm overwhelmed me. Lae'zel kept going down, then Durge, Gale held on surprisingly long, but it got to the point where I just had Astarion make a break for it. Revived everyone, grabbed Halsin, freed the spiders, attempt 2 went much better.
Then the goddamn Bullette almost killed me in the underdark. Literally everyone was dead but Durge, I didn't have a bonus action to jump to safety, THANKFULLY the bullette decided to burrow right then or that would have been it. Honestly, the battles aren't too bad, it's the lack of save scumming out of bad scenarios that's Getting Me.
I know the dueger slaver fight is hard, even WITH mushroom dude helping, so I'm trying to take out little guys and get up to 5 before I try it. Not even going NEAR Ethel until then, either.
Karlach has hit on me, and I picked the "friends" option when Gale gave me a magic class. Astarion really likes me, but hasn't propositioned me yet. Weirdly, neither has Lae'zel. Why isn't everyone hitting on me???
I'm getting the hang of spore druid and it's actually pretty fun! I'm basically playing them like a ranger, lmao. Got a bow, throw down Spike Growth, hit them with Spore Arrows. Tempted to take a level or two of monk to give me a little more melee power, but ranger would also work. Both go well with my dex/wis build. I've never used wildshape in combat, which is a lot of fun? And seriously. Spike Growth has saved my ass so many times.
When I was fighting Mother Gut in her room, she called for backup and oops! Can't save scum! AND Roah and her buddies got in on it too. So I basically just Spike Growth'd the door and got out of the way. Half the goblins killed themselves trying to get to me, I was able to pick off the rest. It took forever, but aside from Roah CHEATING and using LIGHTNING BOLT to almost kill Karlach, I had no KO's. Why have I been sleeping on Spike Growth?? I use Hunger of Hadar or Wall of Fire, but I think I was overlooking how fast Spike's damage builds? I was like ohhh 2d4 that's nothing, I didn't quite realize it was WHENEVER THEY MOVE.
