For anyone who might be hesitant on fantasy AUs within fanfiction, I encourage you to give it a try! It's just our favorite boys falling in love again, but there might be magic or dragons (or both!) involved.
Really, fantasy is a story that's in a setting that allows your imagination to run wild. It breaks norms of reality and adds possibilities. Underneath it all is a familiar story of love and finding each other.
If you need some places to start, under the cut is a bunch of my favorite Piarles fantasy fics:
every broken piece of me (belongs to you) by @your-littlesecret (Explicit | 45k) - Jully's Fae!Pierre. An absolute marvel of worldbuilding. I adore this interpretation of the world of the Fae and the courts and everything in between. The details are gorgeous and the slow build of the relationship is so delicious. And there's a dragon. (It's Jully...of course there's a dragon!)
you are perfection, my only direction (it's fire on fire) by @singsweetmelodies (Explicit | 40k) - Katie's dragon riders AU! This fic is the epitome of we're-both-in-love-with-each-other-but-too-scared-to-admit-it. Arranged marriage and politics and they're both pining for each other the whole time while flying on their dragons. It's beautiful and hot and features meddlesome Sewis which I adore.
and it's coming closer by @wolfiemcwolferson (Explicit | 84k) - Logan's Werewolfierre fic! (what the fuck, it's 84k???) It's Logan, so nobody gets to be surprised when there's themes of loss and grief and found family here. It's one of those fics where the audience knows exactly what's happening and seeing Charles come to a slow understanding is beautifully done.
dragonheart by @duquesademiel (General | 2.1k) - sol's little bite-sized glimpse into an Eragon!AU. This fic captures so much worldbuilding and setup and establishing relationships in 2k words and I am eagerly camped out for the day when sol wants to add more to this universe.
hold your hand in mine (starlights in your eyes) by @your-littlesecret (Mature | 20k) - Jully's How To Train Your Dragon AU! It's so sweet and there's action and shenanigans and I am just a sucker for anything HTTYD. Honestly? Dragons. Need I say more??
miles away from places you have been by @wolfiemcwolferson (Explicit | 36k) - Logan's Vampierre! The air of mystery in this fic is incredible. Logan manages to capture that feeling of something being off and when it hits, it hits HARD. There's angst, there's tragedy, there's hope, and there's love. (And magic and vampires.)
e forse il mare è dentro di lui by @duquesademiel (Teen | 24k) - If the ocean was a character. There's magic and mystery and it's stunning how everything comes together. I love all the characters and how relentless Charles is in attempting to figure out what the fuck is happening on this island.
(ノ◕ヮ◕)ノ*:・゚✧
And, this is my blog, so I'm allowed to self-rec my own fantasy:
By the Grace of Magic and Flames (Teen | 54k) - The collab Jully and I wrote in 3 weeks. Dragon Rider!Charles and Witch!Pierre. Featuring sassy familiars and learning magic and so much pining. We honestly went insane over this and it's incredible.
A Nymph's Heart (Series | Teen | 46k) - My Nymph!Pierre & Violinist!Charles series. A small glade in the woods provides an excellent spot for Charles to practice his music, and there's an intriguing magical creature that lives there. They go to the Feywild in Part 2 and the way that magic works there is some of my best & favorite worldbuilding.
Bittersweet, That Glitter (Teen | 23k) - Dragon!Pierre & Potions Apprentice!Charles. Pierre is a shape-shifting dragon who finds his soulmate in a tiny village. Charles convinces him to stay and teach him magic and potions brewing, all while Pierre is trying to conceal his true identity as a dragon. I spent way too much time on potions brewing theory and I want to live in this world.
Our Love Is Not Illusion Based (Teen | 3k) - Another little bite-sized piece of magic where Pierre is a witch and Charles refuses to leave his side despite the stigma against witches. It's sweet with just a touch of angst and I'm so happy with how much I managed to pack into a short fic here.
The Boy With the Storm-Colored Eyes (Teen | 31k) - Mermaid!Charles!!! This is the first fic I ever posted to AO3/F1 RPF and it holds such a special place in my heart. I love naϊve Charles as a mermaid and surfer/scientist Pierre who is immediately besotted. The action and the drama is so good and the resolution is somehow angstier? I love this world and I love how they're drawn to each other despite everything in the way.

Dropping by with random questions for any OCs you want to answer for! 😁
What does your OC admire about their partner(s)? What do they think is beautiful about them?
What is a fact about your OC that only one or two people know?
Do animals like them? Do they get on well with animals?
Do they have any specific memories of food/a meal?
Your OC is at a karaoke bar and they see a cute person across the bar who they want to impress, what song do they sing?
On an impulsive whim your OC dyes their hair and gets a whole new outfit, what do they now look like?
If your OC could travel to anywhere in their world, where would they go?
How does your OC celebrate their birthday?
Thank you for the ask! 🥺 I'll answer for Fae, Zoran and Étoile.
What does your OC admire about their partner(s)? What do they think is beautiful about them?
What Fae admires of Claude, Hilda, and Lorenz can be found here.
Fae admires Avery's hope. I think there a lot of times where Fae's bravery is admired, but that when they push past these harder challenges that to them it's like 'it's this or death,' and more desperate or resigned. Avery brings a lot of hope to helpless causes, always able to envision a future beyond a hardship, an understanding after a fallout.
Zoran admires Jeritza's determination, to see himself improve, to see the lives of those he cares about protected and thriving. Jeritza's learning all the time how not to throw away his dignity in the process, how not to approach every challenge and inconvenience with teeth or apathy, and it's his effort in this learning that invites Zoran's continued interest.
Étoile admires Astarion's consideration. As much as the fandom likes pointing out the illogical and unintuitive moments he has, of which there are many, Astarion does (as far as he is aware) try to conceal his vampirism for the sake of group cohesion and his own safety, which "inadvertently" means that he also takes an action that avoids public panic and outcry, even if it's "selfishly motivated" and a lot of his actions are like that, where the merit of them are incidental, and depending on his growth it starts to become conscious. Whether that consciousness is out of a desire to be kinder (leading to the leader or hero spawn paths) or out of a desire to manipulate (in an ascended ending), he's still thoughtful, in his way.
Going to limit myself to 3 random qualities of beauty for the sake of actually answering the section question because otherwise we will be here for three weeks.
Fae finds Claude's chin, jaw and eyebrows beautiful. Fae finds Hilda's lips, (fat) waist and eyes beautiful. Fae finds Lorenz's neck, hands and shoulders beautiful. Fae finds Avery's nose, arms and hips beautiful.
Zoran finds Jerita's cheekbones, collarbone and ass (sorry) beautiful.
Étoile finds Astarion's crows' feet, (vascular) arms and teeth beautiful (source one, source two).
What is a fact about your OC that only one or two people know?
Where Faedolyn is my Byleth / My Unit oc, literally no one (except Sothis???) knows about Divine Pulse. Fae would take this to their grave. But they would confide in their partners (more than two people) that they never expected to live longer than their mother's very short lifespan.
Where Faedolyn is a student oc, they would think that their affections are secrets (whether or not that's true)...
Very few people would know that Zoran (always a student) and Fae are so closely related to House Hevring, imagining it a more distant relation.
I think that while Zoran loves his sister, that only one person knows that they're a little resentful of how luck always seems to be on Fae's side and things are generally easier for them.
Have I made it clear that Étoile's lived in Baldur's Gate for decades but it's only the few adventurers they've travelled with for the sake of making a livelihood that know they worship Auril? So that's not that rare really. And otherwise that they grew up in a temple on a mountain in Impiltur is probably also not that unusual for people to know. But I do think the number of people that they and their mothers killed for the security of themselves and that mountain isn't even understood by the few people Étoile might tell about this, because they wouldn't be very explicit about it (Aranea's been living there for 650+ years). If one ever had cause to go to that frozen lake with ghosts on the wind and bones in the ice, then only if they were invited should they expect to live long enough to be one of the one or two people to have an idea of the extent of it.
Additionally, for something more personal, if anyone knows that Étoile feels destined to loneliness it would be fucking news to them fgdhdfghdfg. If Aranea died unexpectedly, Étoile would return to their temple, and for duty and grief, they wouldn't expect to leave again.
Do animals like them? Do they get on well with animals?
Fae and Zoran have experience with sheep, horses, mousers (cats) and working dogs before going to the monastery. They have a good understanding of how to read and interact well with most animals, which leads to animals liking them.
Étoile has it more complicated with the apparent frequency that Speak With Animals can be present in their universe. In their youth, I'm going to say that this didn't come up so much. They had various livestock, guard dog(s), and indoor cats (also mousers) cycle in and out of their time in their childhood home, but for this reason, they're more accustomed to dogs being an outdoor working pet. As a general statement and not a proposed scenario: I can see Scratch being disappointed / offended if, when there was an alternative, Étoile would expect him to sleep outside / in a barn with the other animals, especially while there were house cats (or ferrets) indoors. I think they are not always well-liked by animals.
Do they have any specific memories of food/a meal?
Two meals I associate with / remember for Faedolyn (and that they would remember depending on where in the timeline of their life they are fgdhdfghfgd) are the first feast after the battle for eagle and lion where Claude falls asleep at the table, and the meal at their wedding in my epilogue fic...
I don't yet have a meal to associate with Zoran, but between Jeritza's association with the Peach Sorbet in fe3h and one of their only little appearances in something I've "written" mentioning Mango Sherbert, I do associate Zoran with desserts / ice creams.
I've said before that when Étoile is prompted to picture their happy place it is a memory of a meal! (:
Étoile pictures themself as a child. They are ten years old. They have just finished fasting for the first time as part of a ritual for Auril / Azura. They are breaking their fast with a feast. It is one of the few times pilgrims crowd the shrine of Azura / Auril with different offerings. Their mother - Aranea - tells them to stay humble and doesn't advertise their accomplishment, but Étoile can tell they've done well; and the food is rich and sweet. And their mother - Wylla - is there - the old wolf - making sure Étoile tries every foreign spice that has made its way to the mountains. She's trying to find their favorite. Something to remember for a later celebration. Étoile cared for and surrounded by people who either understand them or are in turn misunderstood so that there is comfort in the crowd.
Your OC is at a karaoke bar and they see a cute person across the bar who they want to impress, what song do they sing?
Faedolyn sings Alicia Keys' No One. Their vibrato would be different but I think they could do it.
youtube
Zoran sings Queen's A Kind of Magic, especially if she's in drag.
youtube
Étoile would not want to sing but would recognize that you can't impress someone at a karaoke bar by not-singing, and so to sing something to at least move into conversation, they would sing marcy playground's sex & candy.
youtube
On an impulsive whim your OC dyes their hair and gets a whole new outfit, what do they now look like?
Faedolyn will dye their hair black and get a new outfit that looks like one of Ivy Soul Calibur's more modest looks:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Zoran will bleach his hair blond and get something like Solas' armor:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Étoile will dye their hair pink/purple and for you / for them I'll select both an armour and an outfit; so something like Haldir's armor (Haldir my beloved) and something inspired by these two pins in their board (probably sans scarf in baldur's gate's climate):
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
If your OC could travel to anywhere in their world, where would they go?
Faedolyn is always travelling so from wherever they are to wherever they're not; home in the Oghma mountains, home in Garreg Mach, home in Riegan, home in Almyra, visiting in Gloucester, visiting in Enbarr, visiting in Nuvelle, visiting in Duscur, etc.
Zoran is largely settled in Nuvelle at some point, and so if he could travel anywhere, I think he'd pick somewhere further away, see what happens in Dagda.
Étoile would probably be interested in seeing Icewind Dale (the site of Auril's death, the site of where she was focusing her power, and the nearby wastes where her chosen was last seen), the High Forest (the manner of ancient magical energy is more interesting than whatever the high elves might have preserved in Silverymoon to them), and Rashemen (I imagine they were concerned / prejudiced against travelling so close to Thay, but that Minsc's descriptions of a faraway home would have interested them — especially as their own cold homeland is between Baldur's Gate and Rashemen). Étoile would also like to see home again, especially after the traumatic experience that bg3 was.
How does your OC celebrate their birthday?
Faedolyn is overrun with attention and their schedule, and their loved ones are fighting for twenty minutes in their day.
Zoran celebrates his birthday by hiding where maybe only four people know to find him, making an appearance for dinner and cake if there's any to be had.
I forget where I originally said this but I quoted myself on discord about Étoile's birthday before:
i don't think étoile would have expectations for birthday gifts? i think almost anything would delight them, to have been thought of, there are obvious exceptions for things that don't take them into consideration at all (gifts that imply another deity, a shaving kit, etc.) if they had a birthday during the course of the adventure and it was somewhere with a fair number of supplies (the grove, baldur's gate) they might buy themself a little cupcake or even just a handful of berries or something; and then might confide that it was their birthday with astarion (who i expect would tease) or tav or shadowheart (and étoile would share their little treat and be like, "does shar forbid birthdays? if you never get your memories back then you can share this one with me, or at least, maybe, you could think of me on this day") (and specifically not karlach, she'd make a fuss)

𝐆𝐈𝐕𝐄 '𝐄𝐌 𝐇𝐄𝐋𝐋, 𝐊𝐈𝐃 || chapter one

The Housewarden of Diasomnia was unable to make it to Night Raven's opening ceremony for the third year in a row, so Vice Housewarden Lilia Vanrouge stepped in to lead the new students to the dorm at the Headmage's request. Truly, it was exciting. The faces of the new students showed a range of emotions; anxiety at attending such a prestigious school, happiness at being accepted, even nausea.
The sorting was almost over, down to the last bunch of students. Lilia, in an attempt to amuse himself, tried to guess who would be in which dorm. The young knight training under him, Sebek, would of course be in Diasomnia with him and his son.
That one, Lilia decided of a curly-haired student looking both nervous and slightly impatient, will be in Ignihyde.
The student in question had the hood of their robe nearly concealing them completely, but a frown was evident on their black-painted lips, and their eyes darted around almost frantically. Long curly black hair spilled onto their shoulders, as its volume would no doubt be too much to comfortably sit on their back within the robe.
He watched with amusement as it was the student's turn to be sorted into a dorm. They walked as confidently as they could to the Mirror.
"State thy name."
Their voice was low, and he almost couldn't hear it. "Alexandria Thatcher."
The Mirror paused. "Thatcher. Your magic has strong potential, and your soul is strong-willed. You belong to Diasomnia."
Lilia huffed. Oh, I was wrong, he thought to himself, but nonetheless beckoned the student over to the rest of the Diasomnia first-years. One shoved past him and grabbed Alexandria's elbow.
"Alexxxx! You're with me!" the first year exclaimed. She appeared to be a fae of some sort, with long pointed ears and purple eyes, which gave off a sort of glow. Most notably was her long bright pink hair. Noelle Blackwell, if Lilia remembered correctly. "We have to try to manifest us to be roommates!"
"The roommates have already been decided by the headmage," Lilia interrupted. "Blackwell, correct? If my memory serves me right, you'll be rooming with my son, Silver."
Noelle groaned. "And we can't change it?"
"I'm afraid not."
She closed her eyes. "I need to be close to Alex." Lilia's eyes darted to said student, who looked confused. "They don't really know how things work around here. They're from another world, you know."
There was a pause. Lilia frowned deeply. "Another world…?"
"Yep! One with no magic."
"Noelle, stop talking," Alexandria hissed.
Lilia studied the student closely. Alexandria appeared to be sixteen, came from a nonmagical world, and closely resembled a woman Lilia had once met seventeen years prior during his experiments with teleportation. One where he had stumbled upon a dimension with the same properties as this Noelle girl had just explained.
Could…?
He squinted. Yes, he could now clearly see the resemblance. The curly hair definitely came from their mother, but the glossy black color was Lilia's, as was their deathly pale skin. Their eyes were a very dark shade of red, almost black; a slight contrast to Lilia's own red ones. When they moved their head and their hair moved out of the way, slightly pointed ears were visible; the telltale sign of a half-fae. And their surname- Thatcher- their mother was Elizabeth Thatcher.
Lilia quickly excused himself.
Noelle frowned and turned to Alexandria. "Oh my god, did you see that?"
"What?"
"He just left!"
Alexandria deadpanned. "Well, no shit. He's not standing in front of us anymore."
Noelle shook her head. "No, why'd he leave so quickly?"
"How the hell am I supposed to know that?"
"Whatever. Let's just wait and see what happens tonight at dinner."
"You think we'll have dinner together?"
"I dunno. Maybe. It's like that in the movies."
The headmage's voice loudly announced the ending of the opening ceremony. The housewardens and vice housewardens began herding the chattering first-years, ushering them to the dorms' respective mirrors.
Lilia clapped his hands, shaking off the previous worry. He'd talk with Silver after the first-years were settled. "Okay, everyone! As Housewarden Draconia hasn't been able to make it, I am in his place. You may call me Vice Housewarden Vanrouge, or simply Lilia. Whichever you wish." He scanned the eager faces and his stomach dropped upon seeing Noelle and Alexandria, both watching him with scrutinizing eyes. He cleared his throat. "Now, follow me through the mirror."
Tumblr media
In the Diasomnia common room, second-year and third-year students watched as the first-years ran about. Some offered help finding their rooms, and others reveled in the chaos.
"Silver."
The boy turned at the mention of his name. Lilia approached, looking almost sick to his stomach. "Father?"
"Over here." He grabbed the boy and ushered him into a quiet room.
Silver blinked, the most awake Lilia had seen him. "Father, what's wrong?"
"I have to tell you something." He took a deep breath. "Just before I found you as a baby, I had read a book explaining the probabilities of there being parallel universes. I found this to be interesting, so I began dabbling in my teleportation skills, intending to teleport myself to another world. And, as silly as it sounds, it worked. I was in a curious little world with no magic whatsoever. And while I was exploring, I… I met a lady. She and I, well… and then I returned to Twisted Wonderland. Of course I never planned on having a life in that universe. I belong here. I never thought she'd…"
Silver frowned slightly. "Father, what are you saying?"
"Silver, she had a baby. You have a sibling, they're out there in the common room right now, and your roommate is apparently their best friend."
The boy's eyes widened. "I have a sibling? Do they know? Do they even want to-"
"They don't know."
"If their world has no magic, how are they here?"
Lilia buried his face in his hands. "I'm not sure."
Confusion and worry built up in Silver's chest. How was he supposed to feel about this revelation, and how could he help his father? He'd never seen Lilia this distraught before.
"Father-"
"I should have known! I abandoned that woman and her child!" He paused. "Silver…"
Silver closed his eyes. "Why don't you talk to them? Explain the situation? …Do you want them to know?"
"I do. I want to know them, to know the child I left. They're all alone in this world with no one but that ditzy girl to guide them, and I don't think she's doing such a good job. But, Silver, I'm asking you if you want them as your sibling. It wouldn't be fair to you if I didn't. You will always be my boy, so please don't think I'm trying to replace you."
Silver's eyes pricked with tears. "Old man. Of course. Should we go tell them now?"
"No! That would only complicate things. I think it'd be better to wait, get to know them, and then tell them. It would be too much too fast."
Silver nodded in understanding.
"Now, let's return to the common room." Lilia turned, headed to the door, and looked back at his son. Silver trailed after him, excitement and nervousness churning in his stomach.
"Oh, Sebek!" Lilia exclaimed upon seeing the green-haired boy in the common room. "I see you've got your bags. Who's your roommate?"
Sebek made a face and fished a crumpled paper from a small zipper on his bag. "Um… Alexandria Thatcher, a- a half-fae. Like me." He'd never met another half-fae before, and he'd be lying if he said he wasn't a little excited.
There was a brief pause before Lilia broke into loud laughter. "Oh, what are the chances?" He sighed, attempting to calm himself from the sudden fit of laughter. "Oh, dear me! Just keep an eye on your roommate for me, alright?"
Tumblr media
As soon as Sebek stepped into the shared room, he knew he and his roommate would not get along.
They had already unpacked. How did they fit so much stuff in their suitcase? The comforter they sat criss-cross on top of was black with a pink skull pattern, ripped posters littered their side of the room and the ceiling above their bed, and a large pile of clothes sat on top of their school-provided dresser. Said dresser had been attacked with a barrage of stickers, ranging from animated characters to profanities and anarchy symbols.
"You!" Sebek cried. "You've defaced the dresser!"
"Boo hoo," they frowned, sliding their headphones down around their neck. Faint rock music could be heard.
The boy sputtered, cheeks growing warm with anger. "Do not blatantly disregard a crime! That's not your property!"
Alexandria rolled their eyes, fished a black Sharpie from their suitcase, and scrawled their name on the dresser. "It is now."
Sebek screwed his eyes shut, practicing the deep breathing techniques Lilia had taught him. A knight must control his temper, he had said.
Turning around, Sebek began taking neatly-folded clothes from his suitcase and gently placing them in his own dresser. He turned, sneaking a glance, in hopes his neat example would inspire Alexandria to fix their dresser. They weren't even paying attention; they were digging through the pile of clothes, looking for something to change out of their ceremonial robes.
He sighed, shaking his head. Lilia had asked him to report to him what they did, for reasons unknown to Sebek, but he was certain he'd have a lot to report.
