actually as i reread my old horimiya wip i realize that its good, and i like it, and i would probably enjoy working on it more, but unfortunately two things would get in my way in doing so. one, id have to reread horimiya a little bit. and i did not enjoy horimiya enough for that. and two, while i almost managed to hit at it as i wrote, its lacking its thematic center. sometimes im writing something just to have characters interact (re: nico;annabeth) but for the horimiya wip, its narrowly missing its purpose, which is frustrating because thats how i feel about the original horimiya manga. if i were to finish it, id need to restructure it a bit, to really get at the point im trying to make. but since im probably not going to, heres the point right here: sometimes, when you are alone for a long time, you learn to take pride and pleasure in your loneliness. you learn to enjoy self-sufficiency. you learn to recoil from love. you cannot do this, or else you will be alone forever. my final message to the world goodbye.
#i love talking to a brick wall nobody cares about this but me hi.#i could FIX horimiya#HE SHOULDNT HAVE HAD FRIENDS INMIDDLE SCHOOL. HE NEEDS TO BE LONELY FOREVER. FOR THE THEMES.#AND HER DAD SHOULDNT BE AROUND MAKE THEM DIVORCE THEY NEED TO DIVORCE FOR THE THEMES!!!!!!! GRINDS MY TEETH INTO DUST

Awww I really loved seeing Sakura and Yanagi bond over their favorite manga. Then seeing them pick out new frames for Yanagi after school was so cute too.
They seem like a really cute couple. I don't know if they ever became official or not, especially since they were both rejected by their crushes...but it'd be nice to see them hang out together again.
I really like them together ❤️
#the ending theme for episode 7 was super cute too#horimiya#horimiya the missing pieces#sakura kouno#akane yanagi

The difference between male wish fulfillment vs female wish fulfillment in romance anime
There’s kind of a different gaze that can be targeted to in romance anime.
In male wish fulfillment anime romances, there’s usually a much heavier emphasis on the male love interest’s pov than the female’s. Also, women tend to be much more.. objectified and there’s an unnecessary amount of fan service. An example of this is Rent a Girlfriend and Don’t Toy With Me Miss Nagatoro. It’s more about the male lead being hit on by.. really horny women than actual romance.
However, in female wish fulfillment anime, it tends to be more told from the female’s perspective. The way the male love interest tends to be written is to make him emotional and aware and.. kind, rather than objectifying him or even making them horny, because women.. we don’t really want to be lusted after like that, typically. We’re already objectified enough. My favorite example is Kimi Ni Todoke: From Me To You. Kazehaya admits he’s a ‘pervert’ but in a respectful way. The writer doesn’t make him fully pure or naive or anything like that. He’s still a teen boy. But in this series, the male character is written to be sweet, emotional, and aware but he’s not stripped away from his inherent masculinity (nontoxic masculinity!). Not just.. a guy, if that makes any sense. Meanwhile, in male wish fulfillment anime, the women are just women, rather than characters. Again, I hope this makes sense!
Now, I’m not saying all romance anime that’s written from the female’s perspective is the best! I think MY Love Story!! is a good example of this! The main character is a male and he’s a genuine, total sweetheart while still having a sense of masculinity! And the female character isn’t objectified! And I would even say even say that this show could be considered a male wish fulfillment romance, based on how it’s written.
And then there’s shows for both, like Kaguya Sama: Love is War. In this show, the two love interests have complete equal power in focus, making them feel completely balanced and real. Neither are objectified and both get treated like humans. Same with The Apothecary Diaries, if not more so!
Anyways, sorry for this ramble. I just really like (well written) romance anime. And I will leave off with a list of romance anime recommendations!
•Kimi Ni Todoke: From Me To You (adorable, fluffy, amazing character development, doesn’t beat around the bush the entire fucking series. Half of the manga is pining and the other half is the complexities of being in your first ever relationship as you try to navigate it all)
•Snow White With The Red Hair (amazing female lead with cool world building and interesting dynamics)
•MY Love Story!! (SO CUTE! Amazing show about not judging appearances)
•My Happy Marriage (Really wholesome Cinderella type story)
•Kaguya Sama: Love Is War (hilarious. I actually recommend the dub. Genuinely really sweet)
•Sasaki To Miyano (so sweet it’ll give you cavities)
•Tomo Chan Is A Girl (there is sadly quite a bit of fanservice in this. I’ve seen way worse, but ya. If you’re wanting something to watch with your parents, this may not be it. Mostly just close ups on boobs)
•Monthly Girls Nozaki (romcom that leans really heavy on the comedy more than the romance, but I love it too much to not recommend. Watch it in the dub, you won’t regret it)
•Fruits Basket (Really sweet)
•Toilet Bound Hanako (THE MANGA! READ THE MANGA! DON’T LET THE TITLE WEIRD YOU OUT, I SWEAR IT IS INCREDIBLE! READ!)
•Komi Can’t Communicate (I would, however, like to apologize for Yamai ahead of time. The entire fandom hates her, don’t worry. There’s also quite a bit of fan service in this one 😔)
•Toradora (haven’t seen it in a while, but it’s a classic lol)
•Horimiya (Another romance anime that doesn’t beat around the bush!)
•The Ice Guy And His Cool Female Colleague (SO. CUTE. AGHHHH. Despite it being ice themed, it certainly makes me feel warm and fuzzy)
•Love, Chuunibyou, and Other Delusions (so silly, amazing story about maturity while also keeping your inner child alive)
•I Want To Eat Your Pancreas (be sure to bring tissues! You will cry!)
•Kamisama Kiss (I really like the characters and world building in this one. Sadly, we’ll probably never get another season 😔)
•Words Bubble Up Like Soda Pop (SUCH A CUTE MOVIE! Amazing feel good romance that just makes you happy)
•My Little Monster (not my usual first recommendation, but it’s an overall fun watch… still so desperately want another season. False hope lol)
•Ouran High School Host Club (an absolute classic romcom. Another situation where I actually recommend the dub)
•Apothecary Diaries (AGGHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!! …full stop. I love this show.)
•Princess Tutu (I LOVE THIS STORYBOOK SETTING! And Ahiru is so silly. She’s just a duck, she can’t handle all these responsibilities!)

Romance Anime Starter List
I don’t know about you guys, but I’m sick and tired of seeing “Top ___ Best Anime of All Time” lists that are nothing but shounen. So, with "My Happy Marriage" getting a little attention from the anime community, I wanted to put together a list of some romance anime that I consider good “starters” for the genre. Because if I were just now becoming an anime fan, I’d think all there was to offer was shounen action series.
And by “starters” I mean basic stuff that’s not too…out there, and actually involves the characters getting together instead of just harems or using romance as a side plot (sorry Ouran High School Host Club and My Next Life as a Villainess).
So if you’re new to anime and want stuff that’s not just guys beating the shit out of each other (which is also fun, don’t get me wrong), here are some basics.
Taisho Maiden Fairy Tale- When the pessimistic Tamahiko Shima loses all function in his right arm, his family sends him away to live in the mountains with the cheerful, hard working Yuzuki Tachibana…who was purchased by the Shima family to pay off her family’s debts and basically act as a caretaker/future bride for Tamahiko so they’d never have to deal with him again. It’s a more cheerful version of My Happy Marriage (without the supernatural stuff), except in this one, the guy is the one who has massive self-esteem issues and an abusive family. There are still very serious themes, but ultimately it’s not meant to make you cry every episode. I swear it’s so good, but nobody watched it!
Horimiya- A slice of life in which pretty and popular high school queen bee Hori, finds out her quiet, unassuming classmate Miyamura is hiding piercings and tattoos that could get him expelled. The two gradually find out more about each other and get together in the most realistic way I’ve seen depicted in an anime. It’s also fucking hysterical and genuinely emotional.
Recovery of an MMO Junkie- Another slice of life that focuses on two adults who meet in an MMO game without realizing they also know each other in real life. I don’t want to say much more than that. It’s adorable, and the main character is so relatable it hurts.
Love with Yamada-kun at Level 999- Speaking of MMOs, this is a newer series about Akane Kinoshita, a college first year who’s reeling from a bad break up. In an attempt to get back at her ex, she winds up meeting Akito Yamada, a popular gamer who happens to be in her guild in the MMO they both play at an IRL meetup. The two go from acquaintances to something more as they keep running into each other. Even more relatable main characters and just wholesome relationships all around.
Snow White With The Red Hair- A fantasy in which an apothecary named Shirayuki (meaning, you guessed it, “snow white”) runs away from her home in order to escape becoming the concubine of her town’s prince. While fleeing, she is rescued by Zen, the prince of a neighboring country, and she ends up becoming an herbalist to repay him. It's super cute with some genuinely swoon worthy moments and a couple that just works so well together. I have a habit of comparing this to Akatsuki no Yona, even though the two aren’t really that alike. This is more romance driven while Akatsuki no Yona is more of a serious historical fantasy with romance elements (Yona manga is amazing, but the anime barely scratches the surface, so that’s why I didn’t include it).
Sasaki to Miyano- When the shy, easily flustered Miyano meets Sasaki, a cool “delinquent” upperclassmen, the two end up bonding over manga…specifically BL manga. That’s right, Miyano is a fudanshi, but due to his small stature and somewhat feminine appearance, he’s constantly trying to convince others that he’s not interested in having his own love story where he’d be reduced to a stereotypical doe-eyed uke. But as Sasaki and Miyano spend more time together, they realize that what they have is more than friendship, and they have to come to terms with their own perception of gay relationships. This is my favorite romance of all time. It’s a slow burn, but boy is it worth it. Their relationship is so natural and realistic, just like Horimiya. Just two people hanging out and bonding over things the way people do in real life!
Given: The story of some boys in a band with trauma. Enough said. It's great. Go watch it.
Bloom Into You- Yuu Koito is a high school girl who’s been waiting her whole life for her own perfect romance to start…but when she receives a confession, she realizes she doesn’t know how to respond when she’s just not into the guy. And then she gets another confession…this time from the cool student council president Touko Nanami, who basically jumpstarts her lesbian awakening. Very cute story about how we perceive the concept of love vs actually feeling it. Also has a canonically aro/ace side character, so that’s a win for me. Another show like this is Adachi to Shimamura (but I honestly don’t remember much about it. It just didn’t stick with me as much).
Ore Monogatari- Takeo Gouda is a tall, bulky high school first year with a sensitive heart of gold. He wants nothing more than to find his own true love, but most girls are intimidated by his enormous stature, and they end up falling for his conventionally attractive friend instead. That is, until he meets the tiny, adorable Rinko Yamato. He falls in love instantly, but he’s sure she’s interested in his best friend like everyone else, so he vows to help get them together, even though his heart is breaking. Peak himbo behavior. Pure of heart, dumb of ass.
Yuri on Ice- Yes it’s the gay figure skating anime everyone knows. And yes it’s a fucking romance, okay? I will die on this hill. The romance between Viktor and Yuri is just as important as the plot!
Kaguya-sama Love Is War- Two insanely smart high school students both have a crush on the other, but since they’re…you know…high schoolers, neither of them wants to admit it first. So they come up with increasingly convoluted plans to get the other to confess first. This will go down as one of the best of all time. It’s a hilarious yet poignant modern classic.
Fruits Basket- I’ve talked about it before and I’ll talk about it again. A romance “comedy” that slowly morphs into a drama about a girl named Tohru who finds herself living with the mysterious Sohma family after her mother dies. Little does she know, the Sohmas are the victims of a (somewhat silly, but ultimately tragic) curse that she must fight to break. Even though I’m more into it for the family drama, the romance is still top tier and plays an important role in the story. This is my second favorite anime of all time, and it’s a classic for a reason. If anyone hasn’t watched it yet, GO WATCH IT! IT WILL RIP YOU TO SHREDS!
Blue Box- A sports romance about an aspiring badminton player named Taiki Inomata who has a massive crush on the girls basketball team's star player Chinatsu Kano. Through a twist of fate, the two end up living together and having to hide it from the rest of their classmates, all while Taiki tries to work up the courage to ask Chinatsu out. It's so sweet and wholesome, and it's a great blend of sports anime and romance that can appeal to anyone who is more hesitant to get into the romance genre. The animation is also so freaking gorgeous!!!!
365 Days To The Wedding- A workplace romance between the two most awkward people you could possibly imagine! The story takes place at a travel company that is about to open a new branch in Alaska, but because our two main characters are...like I said...very awkward, they come up with a plan to avoid being sent to work at the new branch...by telling their boss they're getting married. Because they wouldn't want to split up a married couple by making one move away, right? As ridiculous as the premise sounds, hilarious shenanigans ensue, but there's also a surprising amount of serious discussions about romance and marriage. The main characters also have major autism coding, so if you're looking for a neurodivergent romance, this is it. (There's also an episode that involves a princess wanting to give up the throne to pursue a life with her girlfriend!)
And now for some honorable mentions that didn't quite fit into the regular list:
Ride Your Wave- A movie about a surfer who falls in love with a firefighter……and I’m not going to say any more than that. Go into it blind. If you like stuff like Your Name, this is a good one to watch.
Gekkan Shoujo Nozaki-kun- A comedy about a high school girl who finds out the upperclassman she has a crush on is actually a shoujo manga artist, and no matter how she tries to confess to him, he just never gets it.
The Ice Guy and His Cool Female Colleague- A slow burn slice of life that focuses on a guy with ice powers who has a crush on his coworker. That’s it. That’s the show. When I say slow, I mean SLOW. It’s perfectly cute and fluffy, but my god does it take forever to get anywhere with these two.
Skip to Loafer- A high strung, small town girl decides to go to high school in Tokyo, where she meets a variety of classmates, including the laid back Sousuke Shima. The unlikely pair become friends, and soon enough, she starts to feel something more than friendship. The only reason I didn’t include it in the main list is because they don’t get together by the end of the first season, but it’s still really cute (also canonically trans character for the win!?)
So that’s my starter list. And no, I didn’t include Toradora, even though it’s a classic. I know it’s blasphemous, but I like it more as a comedy than a romance. It kinda lost me with the ending. But anyway, maybe someone will find something they like. Or maybe you'll just want to roast me and my picks 😅
#yuri on ice#kaguya sama: love is war#fruits basket#ore monogatari#bloom into you#sasaki to miyano#snow white with the red hair#yamada kun to lv999 no koi wo suru#horimiya#recovery of an mmo junkie#taisho maiden fairy tale#skip to loafer#blue box#ao no hako#kekkon suru tte hontou desu ka#365 days to the wedding#unfortunately not much bl or gl since a lot that I've seen is too...out there for this list...#now bl manga on the other hand...#why did i make this lol?#because i finally got to the confession scene in akatsuki no yona of course and now i'm dead#I kinda want to include doukyuusei too but it's just a little bit steamier than what I was going for with this 😅

Siúil a Rúin
As Take Your Time, Miss Deer, finally comes to an end, I want to reach out to everyone with a note, a thank you for being here in this two month long journey of weekly updates.
I still remember how I decided to write this fic out of a whim, mostly for myself because I want to sharpen my skills as a writer. What started as a whim turn to little snippets, then an outline, and finally, a challenge where I told myself I will complete this fic in a span of 10 chapters.
Honestly, I did not intend to post this at all here in Tumblr, but my beta reader and a friend convinced me otherwise and I am glad I listened to them or else I wouldn't have met each of you today.
This fic was incredibly challenging to write but mostly because I wouldn't deny that numbers still bother me though I still stick to my belief that these shouldn't define my worth as a writer.
One challenge I encounter is actually creating Miss Deer. Sweet characters seemed easy to write when you see them surface level but sweet characters who are layered are more difficult. I want her to be sweet and kind but not the type that she is dependent on other people to live, rather, has her own set of strengths.
I mentioned this several times to my moot (Hi @xiiiaomaiii!) how FLs from Studio Ghibli greatly influenced me and rewatching them all in one go gave me a better idea on how to write her character and how Sylus will play in the story.
I don't want Miss Deer to be completely dependent on him and I want Sylus to be like how every ML is in Studio Ghibli: Supportive and kind.
(Did it work? I like to think I managed to flesh out her character well based on everyone's feedback.)
There are multiple challenges that I have encounter along the way. My worry on ensuring that Sylus, the twins, and even the characters I have isekai'd in this fic (ex. Louis from Beastars) are not OOC. My realization that having an outline is completely different from fleshing it out and there are times I close the doc then call it a day.
Sometimes, I even erase lines of paragraphs. (Bork, do you still have them? No, they are in the abyss now, forever gone haha)
Anyways, I don't want to keep this long! These are just musings, mostly for my future self to read when she looks back.
What's next?
I will focus on drawing art for this fic during my break.
Pick-up what I left off in the side story related to this fic which is about Luke, Kieran, and the sheep hybrid occasionally mentioned.
(This side story is more focused on the themes of coming of age, the twins and the sheep MC navigating in their relationship. I mostly draw inspiration from Skip and Loafer and Horimiya for this. Also, the amount of Luke & Kieran fics is low and I, an upstanding citizen, must do my part.)
Might write short stories and drabbles between Sylus and Miss Deer as well.
Will I write another longfic?
Yes, I already have something in the works but I need to read more about this LI (Who is the LI? Hehe, you'll see), read more books, watch more films in line with the idea I have in mind.
When will you see this longfic?
One day when you wake up (Hopefully on a warm, sunny day), you'll just see the first chapter and you and I will be in another ride where I publish weekly (I pray nothing gets in the way of my life.)
I am happy this story reached you and when you reread it, I hope my intent of making it a cozy story will make you feel better, recharge you, and help you get ready to face what is ahead.
Thank you everyone!

Manga and Stuff recommends stuff: 2025 edition
Here's a list of manga I can wholeheartedly recommend.
Apologies for flooding your dash with emojis like this, but this seemed like the clearest and easiest way to do this rating system.
Explanation of each symbol:
1 - 5 rating for intensity or amount of these themes: 💀 = contains graphic violence / gore / Body horror 🌧 = handles traumatic themes such as abuse or grief 😂 = comedic elements 🌼 = Calm / light-hearted 🔞 = Adult oriented (contains explicit nudity, sex, etc.) 👀 = very different from the most recent anime/movie adaption
Yes or No ratings: 👶 = suitable for younger audiences (~ age 12 and up) 🚀 = Quick read (less than 6 Volumes) 🎨 = interesting / distinctive art-style 💞 = Story primarily focuses on romance ⭐ = Personal favorite
Example: This rating (🚀 💀💀💀💀💀 🔞🔞😂) would indicate the the manga: - is a quick read - contains a lot or very intense violence / gore / body horror - contains some nudity / sex scenes here and there - has a few funny scene

joel’s hermitcraft base but i made it into an anime opening (Wotakoi: Love Is Hard For Otaku)
Song: Fiction by Sumika
some tidbits
- i have been thinking of making something like this for weeks now. Joel mentioned anime intro and i had to lock in
- Before actually working on anything though, I had to think what was the genre I wanted for this opening. I tried to emulate the silliness and comedic nature of Joel’s editing while also capturing the beautiful Japanese Cyberpunk base he has. So I settled on a Slice of Life Shoujo-esque comedy anime! With the cherry blossoms as well, it felt very fitting. (I also thought of making it very vfx heavy to accent the cyberpunk-ness? But thats too much for 3am dan.)
- afterwards, i tried to choose a slice of life opening that led many songs into the download files! Openings from Horimiya, Kimi no Todoke, Your Lie in April, Ouran High School Host Club, Skip and Loafer, Dungeon Meshi (OP2) Bocchi the Rock and Saiki K were in the discussion room (aka, my brain)
- While editing, I kept certain office life animes in mind like ‘My New Boss is Goofy,’ ‘Wotakoi,’ ‘A Sign of Affection,’ ‘Cherry Magic,’ and ‘Uramichi Onii-san’ so I could focus on that ‘Shoujo’ and ‘Work-life Balance’ themes in the video.
- I actually did not edit this in my usual program! Instead of working on my PC (After Effects CC 2019) I worked on this with my phone on CapCut. It is currently 3am I really could not be bothered to get up and edit on my PC.
- I screenrecorded all of these clips, solely because I didn’t want to download all 31 episodes

Any anime recommendations you give me? I need a whole list of new shows too watch Good ones too
Ohhh okay I’ve just been getting back into the anime fandom lately, but yes—absolutely, I’ve got some recs for you!
For Pain, Emotion, and Top-Tier Storytelling:
• Attack on Titan – dark, political, emotional, brutal.
• Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood – near-perfect story, heart-wrenching, philosophical.
• Mob Psycho 100 – incredible character writing, heart, humor, and insane animation.
• Banana Fish – prepare to cry. Seriously. A gut punch, but so worth it.
• Made in Abyss – deceptively beautiful world with deep horror and emotion.
If You Want Beautiful Animation and Aesthetic Feels:
• Violet Evergarden – every episode is a poem; bring tissues.
• Your Name / Weathering With You – both are movies, visually stunning and emotional.
• Demon Slayer – flashy, heartfelt, and the animation is unreal.
For Fun, Humor, also Angst:
• Jujutsu Kaisen – cursed energy, dark themes, hot characters, everything.
• My Hero Academia – the drama, the friendships, the angst—it’s addicting.
• Spy x Family – hilarious, wholesome, lowkey angsty, and Anya is a star.
Romance and Softness (or absolute mess):
• Horimiya – cute high school love with a twist.
• Fruits Basket (2019) – family trauma, soulmates, curses—it delivers.
• Toradora! – chaotic, emotional, and classic.
• Yuri!!! on Ice – love, ice skating, and soft boys with trauma.
Just Straight-Up Weird Brilliance:
• Paranoia Agent – psychological and bizarre, perfect for late-night brain rot.
• Erased – mystery, childhood, time travel—so well done.
• Death Parade – life, death, judgment, and existential crisis in neon lights.
