I've never been interested in Boba Fett, so I don't plan to watch the show, but now I'm confused. They told the story of what happened to Mandalore in Boba's show but didn't include Boba in this episode at all? Now I'm wondering if I need to watch this episode to understand Mando season 3 (probably because Disney has a bad habit of assuming everyone watches and reads everything) and still actually have no desire to watch it except I want to know what happens to Mandalore. Do I need to watch it?
They sooooort of told what happened to Mandalore in The Book of Boba Fett, but nothing that we didn't basically already know. We already knew the Empire had destroyed Mandalore pretty badly, that Mandalorians were basically non-existent in the galaxy at this point in time, we already know that Bo-Katan lost the darksaber and was working to get it back, etc. The only thing this episode did was show an actual (very brief) flashback to Mandalore on the Night of a Thousand Tears, which is presumably the Empire hitting back after the events of Rebels and whatever the Mandalorians did once united under Bo-Katan. Honestly, the episode really has almost nothing to do with the main storyline of the Boba Fett series, it literally could have been the season 3 first episode, that's how much it was about continuing that story, rather than ANYTHING to do with Boba's story. I think it's worth watching for Mandalore fans if not strictly necessary if you don't want, but until the third season of The Mandalorian comes out, we can't say for sure. I honestly don't know what Disney was thinking with this move (other than being a cash grab), but my general feeling is: It's a perfectly fine episode of The Mandalorian (but a bad episode of Boba Fett, because dedicating an entire episode out of your seven episode run to a different character, who already has his own show, is just wtf), a really good one, even! It's worth watching for fans of The Mandalorian. But, as far as we know, not strictly necessary. They'll probably give us context for whatever we need, when season 3 hits.
