I would love to read a piece where all Clarke's radio calls were caught by an old weather satellite or something and Monty and Harper heard them and reacted in a video or spacekru reacting to them while also seeing Clarke being still alone. I just loved the way you handled the calls in then hope flew away, the impact it has on everyone because honestly it's devastating.

When Jordan hands him the tape, Bellamy doesn’t think too much aboutit.

It’d been a day since they woke everyone up after Jordan awoke him andClarke, and Bellamy’s trying his best to remain calm when the entire shipdescended into chaos. People dealt with the death of the earth as well as heexpected, which means everyone wept, screamed, and didn’t know what else to do.

“It’s from Dad,” Jordan states, handing Bellamy a tape he doesn’trecognize. “He said not to play it until everyone was awake.”

Bellamy stares at the tape that’s handed to him, frowning. “What’s on it?”

“I haven’t watched that one,” Jordan says with a note of sombernessthat he rarely has. “Mom and Dad said explicitly not to watch until everyonewas awake. I know they’re not here, but I couldn’t ignore it.”

“I get that,” Bellamy says absently, flipping the tape in his hands. “Iwonder what’s on it.”

Jordan shrugs. “I don’t know.”

So when Bellamy manages to usher everyone to the control room, he castsa look in the corner. Clarke is standing there, arm wrapped around her waist asshe leans against a wall. Everyone separates in their own group, but she’s byherself, watching them all. Something aches in his chest as he watches her,tucking a piece of hair behind her ear.

“What is this about?” Raven asks, crossing her arms. “I’m needed in theengine room. I have to figure out what’s capable of landing on the new planet.”

Bellamy says, “I’m not sure. Monty and Harper wanted us to watch this,once everyone is awake.”

“Do they have another life-altering revelation to divulge?” Diyozaasks, rubbing her stomach. “Or was the fact that the earth is dead the onlyone?”

Bellamy sucks in a sharp breath. “I don’t know,” he says, but he feelsendlessly protect of his dear friends who gave their lives so they can have anew one. “But if Monty says it’s important, than it’s important.”

When he places the tape in the computer, he steps back until he’s withthe group that he called family for six years. But he can’t help but cast aglance behind his shoulder where Clarke stands, still away from everyone. Shestares at the screen, tears in her eyes as she waits. He can almost feel theloneliness rolling off her, holding herself together.

“Hey guys,”

When Monty says his first words, Bellamy sucks in a breath. He stillisn’t used to Monty being gone, his absence greater than he could ever imagine.Raven shifts next to her and he grabs her hand, grounding her like they did somany times on the Ark.

“This is the only video where Idid an intro. Because I just wanted to say… be nicer to each other. Especiallythose who deserve and desperately need kindness. You never know the burdensthey should. Be kinder in this new world.”

“For both of us.” Harperinterjects, holding Monty’s arm. “Please.”

The video cuts and it’s Harper and Monty sitting together, Jordanstrapped to Harper’s chest as they dance around. A low, melodic piece of music playsand the two of them are dancing. They’re in their own separate world, movingwith one another. Even though his eyes are watery, it reminds Bellamy that theyhad their own version of a happy ending.

“Hi Bellamy.”

When he hears his name, his entire body ices over. Even Harper andMonty, in their world entirely built of their own pause. Monty still holdsHarper’s hand, but they stand there, listening to the words.

“I doubt you can hear me on thispiece of crap radio. It’s been 2,199 days since Praimfaya. I don’t know why Istill do this every day. Maybe it’s my way of staying sane. Remembering who Iam.”

It’s as if everyone turns at once. People’s head turn in her direction,where she stands, alone and by herself. Her eyes are wide, but she can’t tearthem away from the screen where Harper and Monty are standing there, shocked.

“What’s the point if all there is,is pain and suffering?”

Her voice is so broken. It cracks and ebbs, like a wave on the seaready to crash into anyone who challenges it. Something within his chestcrumbles and he finally turns himself, facing her.

“Anyway, if this is the last timeI get to do this, I just want to say… please don’t feel bad about leaving mehere. You did what you had to do. I’m proud of you.”

Bellamy remembers the time on the Ark, when he saw her gaze wherever heturned. She haunted him, walked the halls, and sat next to him as he tried tosleep. Every time she spoke to him, this isn’t how she sounded. She didn’tsound full of love, understanding. She didn’t say she was proud of him.

“Bellamy, it’s Clarke. I’ve beenby myself now for two months, but this is the first time I feel alone.”

Harper pulls away from Monty. “Ohmy god, it’s Clarke.” She says, bringing a hand to her lips. “She’s so alone.”

Monty doesn’t respond. Instead, he searches for a source, but findsnone.

“Hi Bellamy. I’ve made it back tothe Ark. It’s like we were never here. Maybe we never should’ve been. Bellamy,how the hell am I going to make it five years?” Her words crack.

“Clarke,” Bellamy whispers, unable to bring himself to move toward her.She’s frozen in the back, pressing herself against the wall as if there was away to disappear.

“Why aren’t you back yet?”Clarke shouts and Harper flinches. The anger in her voice is palpable. Itstrikes Bellamy in a way that he can’t explain, people shifting nervously. “You were supposed to be back after fiveyears! That was the deal, right? Five years! Why the hell aren’t you here?”

Harper reaches out to Monty. “She was all alone.” Harper says, her lipstrembling. Monty moves close to her. “We forgot that she was all alone.”

“I hate you!” Clarke’s voicecracks against the radio, broken and pained. “I thought you were coming back, I thought that you cared, I thought—”The radio crackles, a deep breathing on the other line. “Did I not the align the projector in time?” She asks, her voice quiet. “Did… I kill you?”

Harper gasps, putting her hand over her mouth.

Bellamy understands. Clarke has now wrapped her arms around her chest,tears welling in her eyes.

“I don’t think I could handle itif you were dead.” She says, her voice breaking. “I don’t hate you, I’m sorry. I just miss you, Bellamy.”

There’s a pause. A breath.

“There has been so many timeswhere I wished I said so much more when we parted. I had practiced it in myhead, I needed you to know how much I care about you. How much… I love you. AndI’m so sorry I left you.” A sob crackles on the radio. “I miss you so much. And I wish you were here.” Her voice is smalland high. Bellamy never thought Clarke to be small, and hated even more that he’sthe one who made her this way. “Why aren’tyou home? Please – Please, Bellamy. Come home.”

Harper reaches to Monty and the two embrace. He kisses her forehead, asif he’s afraid of losing her.

Looking at Clarke, Bellamy gets it.

Losing the one you love is a burden that he wouldn’t wish on anyone.

The video cuts, revealing Monty’s face.

Before he can start talking, Clarke straightens. She swipes under hereyes, clearly trying to avoid everyone. It’s impossible, seeing as everyonefaces her.

Without a word, she rushes out of the control room, nothing more thanher shoes clicking against the metal floors.

Raven bows her head at his side. “I never thought…” she says quietly. “Ofwhat it would be like on earth by yourself.”

“Yeah,” Bellamy states, unable to tear his gaze away from where sheonce was. “Never thought of it.”

“Be the good guys,” Monty’svoice resounds over the control room. Bellamy barely hears him. His words echoaround though, demanding to be heard. “Bekind to one another. Especially those who need it the most. Loneliness is apowerful drug. It’s the only disease that doesn’t unite its victims.”
