Thank you so much for answering my question earlier about " grevena folk costume ". My grandpa is from Aidonia which is in Grevena but its impossible to find information online since i do not know greek. I am now one step closer to knowing about my ancestors culture 🩷🫶🏻 this might be a stretch but do you know anything about Aidonia specifically? I didn't know about Aidonia to be honest because it is a pretty small village but I gathered some general information about it!

Aidonia is a small semi-mountainous agricultural village of Grevena in a 760m altitude.

The village was previously called Stizahion (some idiomatic phrase associated with the walnut tree lumbering in the region) and must have been founded around 1692. It was renamed to Aidonia, after the many nightingales that can be heard in the area.

During the Ottoman period, the village was a chiflik, meaning a piece of land which belonged to an Ottoman military officer and where poor farmers could settle and cultivate the land with most profits going to the lord in exchange for some protection. In 1862, the villagers gathered money and bought the land from the lord.

It is very very small. It now has around 53 permanent inhabitants, but the population doubles in the summer. In its heyday it might have had around 500 people.

Athanasios Broufas (1850 - 1896) was raised and lived up to his adulthood in Aidonia. He was a loved Makedonomahos (= Macedonian fighter) in the region. (aka Greek Macedonian fighting for the liberation of Macedonia from the Ottoman Empire) He sold all his fortune for the Macedonian Struggle and he later fell in the battle. He had also built the old school of the village. There is a bust of his in the village's main square.

I found an old list of all the voting male members of the village, dating from 1914. Perhaps you will find your grandpa's ancestors here! The list also includes their birthyear and profession.

Curran, a partner, global regulatory at law firm Hogan Lovells in Washington, D.C."It's not even a proposed rule. It's not a final rule."U.S. President Joe Biden on Wednesday signed an executive order aimed at restricting U.S. investments into Chinese semiconductor, quantum computing and artificial intelligence companies over national security concerns.Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen is mostly responsible for determining the details. Her department has published a fact sheet and a lengthy "Advance Notice of Proposed Rulemaking" with specific questions it would like more information on.Businesses can share information confidentially as needed, according to the advanced notice, which is set to be formally published on Monday. The notice said it is only a means for sharing the Treasury's initial considerations, and will be followed by draft regulations."The final scope of the restriction, to be defined by the Treasury Department after public consultations, including with U.S. investors in China, will be critical for the enforcement of the order," said Winston Ma, an adjunct professor at NYU Law and a former managing director of CIC.So what's banned?This week's announcements don't explicitly prohibit U.S. investments into Chinese businesses, but the documents indicate what policymakers are focused on.The U.S. transactions potentially covered include:Acquisition of equity interests such as via mergers and acquisitions, private equity and venture capital;Greenfield investment;Joint ventures;Certain debt financing transactions.The forthcoming regulations are not set to take effect retroactively, the Treasury said.
