1. both silverash and vayne are political leaders who had to sacrifice their sibling
2. the concept of necessary evil.
enciodes silverash is among the top-meta dps in arknights, he is a warlord of kjerag, chairman of karlan trading co., and head of silverash family; one of the three ruling clans in kjerag. silverash has unique methods on economics, trade, international politics, diplomacy, and strategic planning.
behind the scenes, he is notorious for adopting a machiavellian method to end kjerag's centuries-long isolationism, notably installing forcing his sister as the saintess, and forming his own elite forces named tschäggättä.
sounds a tad like vayne, if you ask my co-translator.
silverash also used his longtime friend, gnosis, to become a traitor so silverash could have an excuse to get rid of the two opposing clans and the court.
admittedly, silverash is easier to sympathize with, because his sibling is not dead, just forced into a life she didn't ask for. and silverash is a playable character (dev has to make sure he's not too antagonistic). whereas vayne is indeed the final boss. he framed basch, a sympathizeable main character. he killed vaan's brother. and vayne tried to kill his own younger brother too. it is a challenge to make people sympathize with him.
what does this has to do with necessary evil/media literacy?
nothing is black and white. what silverash did is not entirely 'antagonistic', nor his actions make him a flawless protagonist.
it is the same with vayne. one cannot call him an entirely bad baddddddd worst guy in the world. nor he is a pure cinnamon roll who did nothing wrong.
one must be able to recognise their crimes, and still look at them with their character intact.
addendum: remarkably, the majority of arknights fandom has managed to dismiss silverash's grey-morality, painting him as a great villain. but that is not all, a number of people in xii has dismissed vayne's crimes and made him a fangless little cinnamon roll.
do what you will with these characters and read them however you want, but dismissing a core aspect of this grey morality is akin to eating plain rice without seasoning or any side dish. there are flavors to discover, if you give them a chance.
