His Proposal (a LSM mini story) - Stiles Stilinski
word count: 3123 warnings: nobody knows how to not curse around madi, she’s gonna grow up to have a real bad sailor mouth
I was brushing through Madi’s hair, trying to make her look presentable for dinner tonight. Scott, Allison, Stiles and I, and Madi of course, were all going out to eat somewhere nice together. It wasn’t really any special occasion, we just wanted to have a big night together and have an excuse to dress up a little.
“Aren’t you excited to show daddy your new bow?” I asked her enthusiastically, and lifted her to stand on the bathroom counter so she could look into the mirror. Her little hand pressed against the glass. Her other palm pushing against the blue and white ribbon pinning back a few strands of hair. I smiled at her reflection, running my fingers through her brown recently made curls.
“Pretty like mommy?” I chuckled, glancing over at my own reflection. I’d only put on makeup before getting to work on my daughter. So my hair was still in a mess of a ponytail, and I was still clad in leggings and one of Stiles’ old flannels. The buttons weren’t even in all the right places.
“Even prettier” I replied, and she giggled happily. I smiled, holding her against my hip and taking her with me to my room. “Now, lets see what I have that I can even wear”
“Daddy likes this” She said, toddling up to me and grabbing a fistful of the end of the flannel. I laughed a little loudly, recalling all the times Stiles had voice how much he liked me in his clothes.
“I like it too sweetie, but I can’t wear it to dinner, it’s fancy” Madi’s eyes went wide with excitement, like I just told her i was getting her a puppy, then she ran out of my room squealing. Worried about her tendency to topple over while going fast, I followed after her to see she’d pulled open the lid of the box that held all of her dress up clothes. Next thing I knew she was throwing out dresses and funky clothes and plastic heels out of the tub behind her. My brows rose as she continued this process before finally pulling out a dress.
“This one” She said affirmatively, and holding up a two year old sized yellow silky ball gown. I smiled as I recognized it as Belle’s iconic dress from Beauty and the Beast.
“Awe sweetie, it is beautiful” I said, and began to help pick up all the other outfit she’d flung throughout the room. (I was convinced she got her fashion decision skills from Lydia). “But I think I have something else in mind” I told her, and she nodded, carefully tucking it back into the box.
“Okay mommy” I smiled and ruffled her hair slightly, careful not to displace her bow.
“Why don’t you play while I go finish getting ready?” I said sweetly and she nodded eagerly, plopping herself in front of her toy chest. I grinned before leaving the room, happy with how well behaved she was. Then walked off to dress myself up for the night ahead of me.
“I’m home!” Stiles called as he walked in the door, closing it behind him. I didn’t even get the chance to open my door to see him before I heard Madi squealing and her feet pattering quickly into the living room. Followed by a thud.
“Mads!?” I called, rushing out of the room with one of my high heels on, the other in my hand as I ran to where Stiles was already helping her back up.
“Hey take it easy kiddo” He was laughing as he held her up in the air, then set her on his shoulders. He was laughing as she patted her hands over his hair, flattening it out over his forehead. “Hey baby how was your-” Stiles choked halfway through his sentence as he looked over to me.
“Yes, I know, I’m missing a shoe and my hair needs to be done because god I’ve never had so many knots-” Stiles leaned forward and cupped my cheek with one hand, bringing his lips to mine in a sweet kiss. It was nice for about two seconds.
“Ew daddy stop! Stop that!” Madi cried out, and we were able to ignore it for another second before she started hitting his head.
“O-ow! Hey!” Stiles gasped, and I pulled away from him reluctantly, then stood on the tips of my toes to lift her off of his shoulders.
“Madison Rose we do not hit” I scolded, wagging a finger at her as I held her against my hip while also putting my heels on correctly.
“It’s not my fault he was being gross!” She said, throwing her fists at her sides in an adorable angry way. I shook my head lovingly and set her down to adjust the straps on my shoes.
“I didn’t really know what to wear” I started talking to my boyfriend again, using his shoulder for balance as I messed with these annoying little buckles on my shoe. “Seriously if these things weren’t so damn- darn cute” I muttered, trying to break my habit of swearing for Madi’s sake but it wasn’t working out to great.
“Well I was going to tell you that you looked beautiful when I was so rudely interrupted” Stiles said, playfully glaring at the little girl who was playing with a doll up at the coffee table. She just giggled, and he couldn’t help but smile before turning back to me again. “Though all that came to mind was wow, and that didn’t really cut it” I chuckled and wrapped my arms behind his neck, pecking him on the lips happily.
“You’re never going to change, are you Stiles?” I asked, still grinning as my head shook slightly. He grinned back at me, eyes flickering between mine.
“Oddly enough my dad said that same exact thing to me this morning” He chuckled quietly, thumbs rubbing circles in my hips. “The situation was a but different I’ll admit, but still” I laughed and pulled away from him, kissing his cheek for a few seconds longer than normal then heading over to Madi again.
“Are you and daddy done being gross?” She asked, setting her doll on the table and reaching her hands up to me. I laughed as I picked her up, kissing her nose and cheeks a few times.
“Oh sweetheart we’ll never be done” I told her. Okay, so maybe I was distracting her while Stiles slipped into our bedroom. “Want me to pack your crayons so you have better colors for the kids menu at the restaurant?”
“No I want to tell auntie Allison about the puppy store you took me to yesterday” She said, and I took her into her room, already collecting some of her favorite colors from her little art drawer.
“We’ll be there for a while sweetie, what if you get bored with the adult talk?” I asked, hoping she’d just say yes so I could put the crayons into a plastic baggie. She shrugged her shoulders.
“Okay!” She said, suddenly thrilled as she ran back out to the living room. I still don’t know how she got such bursts of energy in such a small amount of time, but when I left her bedroom she was doing laps around the coffee table, the slight frill in her pale pink dress bouncing as she moved. I stood watching, holding her crayons in my hands.
“I firmly believe that the universe gave her my hyperactiveness” I heard Stiles say from behind me, but before I could turn to look at him his arms slid around my middle and pulled me close enough that he could rest his chin down on my shoulder. I ran my fingers over his forearm, enjoying the fact that he’d rolled the sleeves of what appeared to be a grey button up to his elbows. I’d always had a thing for the veins that sort of bulged out of the skin on his arm.
“You have an okay day today?” I asked quietly as I voiced my concern.
“I had a wonderful day today” He mumbled, turning his head to press a kiss into the junction between my neck and shoulder. “Because I knew I was going to get to come home to you and that little bundle of joy and hyperness, and go on a lovely date with the both of you and our best friends” He said, lips pression again against my neck.
“Mm, you’re sexy when you’re all clingy” I hummed, swaying just slightly against him and his hold tightened on me. I checked on Madi quickly, just to make sure she was out of earshot. She was playing with the magnets on the fridge so I turned enough to meet his eyes before placing a much needed kiss against his lips.
“And you’re sexy all the time” He replied in a chipper tone that brought a laugh past my lips. I turned completely, my hands sliding over his face and delving my fingers into his hair. He kissed me again, a little rougher, just enough that it I moaned slightly against him and pulled at his hair to tug him closer. Though before it could escalate any further Stiles pulled back, and I pouted slightly at the loss of contact. “I don’t want to get punched again for being gross” He said, tucking a strand of hair behind my ear.
“Maybe later no one will be around for you to be hit” I whispered, and his eyes lit up with something that made me grin and my confidence grow.
“Perhaps so” He smirked down at me, and I grinned excitedly, slanting my lips against his quickly before pulling out of his hold to fetch Madi.
“Alright love” I breathed out, my hands smoothing out nonexistent wrinkles on the skirt of my dress. “You ready to get going?” I asked her, and she nodded eagerly and grabbed onto my hand. My entire hand clasped around her small one as I helped her to the door to put on her shoes. I crouched to strap the velcro over her sneakers, and she jumped a few times once they were strapped on. I giggled, grabbing her hand again.
“Daddy come on we’re going to be late!” Madi called, and Stiles came jogging over to the door.
“Okay okay I’m ready” He huffed, grabbing his key ring and wrapping an arm around my waist while he locked the door behind him. “Alright” He said, and looked at me with an anxious expression.
“Stiles are you-”
“Alright let’s go!” He cut me off with an enthusiastic voice as we headed towards the stairs to leave the complex.
“AUNTIE ALLI!” Madi practically screeched when we entered the nice place, I had to hold her back from sprinting over to where Allison and Scott were sat at the round table with the white tablecloth over it.
“Madi you can’t be so loud in this kind of place-”
“MADI LOVE!” Allison squealed and jumped up from her seat, running the twenty feet of distance between us and scooping up Madi. My cheeks went red as a few people at surrounding tables gave us looks, but Allison pulled Stiles and I into the hug as well and my nerves went away. “Oh my god you guys all look so good together” SHe gushed,, and carried Madi off with her to the table. I gave Stiles a look.
“I think she has a favorite” I said, making him laugh before his hand held onto mine and walked with me to where Allison and Madi seemed deep in conversation. Scott grinned and greeted us as we took our seats, and we made easy small talk.
“Who’s watching Iris and Matt tonight?” I asked, and Scott’s eyes went wide and he shook his head rapidly.
“Don’t breathe a word about them” He said quietly, leaning closer to us. “It took Al a whole twenty minutes to get her out the door of my Mom’s. She’s been with them for a month straight, and it’s getting to her head” I giggled but made a zipper movement over my lips.
“I won’t say a thing” I winked, just as a waiter came over with menus.
I tried to keep the kids out of conversation with Allison, though it was sort of ard since all I had to talk about these days were Madi. Eventually Stiles nudged me and told me to stop bragging about him, and I had to mutter back that he was all I had left to make conversation about.
“Gee thanks y/n, you really know how to make a mine feel the fire of our relationship” He said sarcastically, and I gently elbowed him in the ribs.
“Shut up” I mumbled, unable to suppress my smile as he grinned cheekily at me.
Wow I loved this man with all of my heart.
“Mommy can I have my crayons?” Madi asked me sweetly from her seat next to Allison, and I snapped out of my thoughts, digging through my purse and retrieving her ziploc bag. “Thank you!” She said, and eagerly began drawing on her paper children’s menu. Allison watched with amusement for a moment as she scribbled over the sheet, then folded her hands and joined our talking.
“Alright, what’s the topic of conversation?”
“Well y/n just keeps babbling about Stiles and Stiles just keeps babbling about y/n and I’m stuck in a loop of love sick weirdos” Scott said, running his hands over his face like he was desperate to be excused from the conversation.
“Be nice” Allison scolded, the back of her hand swatting at her husband.
“Well let’s talk about you, how’s the married life?” I asked Allison before taking a sip of Stiles’ wine.
“Beautifully exhausting” She smiled angelically and Scott pouted.
“Hey…” Allison shot him a softer smile and wrapped her hand over top of his.
“I love it, I really do. Matt and Iris are wonderful, Scott’s wonderful, I’m wonderful” We chuckled at her mini speech, and Scott rolled his eyes playfully. “I just… I can’t help but feel as if everything’s as it’s supposed to be, like it’s all fallen into place” She finished with a small and simple shrug, her lips still pulled into a smile.
“Yeah? Me too” I hummed, discreetly slipping my fingers through Stiles’ under the table. His hand squeezed mine instantly. I turned to smile at him, staring at him with nothing less of adoration.
“Yeah?” Stiles asked, and I nodded at him. “Hm” He hummed like he was thinking about it, and my eyebrows furrowed with confusion and worry.
“Hm?” I repeated in question.
“Yeah, hm?” Allison backed up quickly, ten times more sass in her tone. “You don’t have everything you want?” She asked, her eyes narrowed and her fingers tapped on the tabletop. Stiles’ lips pursed as he thought, and Allison frantically looked between him and I. “y/n!?” She hissed, and my eyes widened about as much as hers just had, unsure of what she was going for. “I mean, don’t you think that he- oh shoot” She mumbled when she flung her hand out and knocked over her empty glass. I chuckled.
“Al, no more wine for you” I said, and turned away from Stiles to stoop down and pick up the fallen glass. “You’re so lucky it’s not broken I’m not paying extra for-” I’d turned to set the glass on the tabletop, but it slipped out of my fingers and broke on accident. I didn’t even process it had happened, my eyes staring into Stiles’ wide and anxious.
He was off of his seat, kneeling in front of me, a ring between his thumb and index finger.
“I don’t have everything I want” He said after a few seconds of silence. The whole table was in dead silence, not even Madi made a peep. “I think about what I want, what I’ve wanted, and since meeting you, and-and getting to know you, becoming your best friend, becoming… becoming Madi’s father, becoming your boyfriend and falling even more in love with you which, I must say, is pretty impressive” A watery choked laugh came past my lips as his free hand grabbed onto mine. “And I am still falling in love with you, every day, and I’m convinced that I will continue to for the rest of our lives” He continued. “So becoming a part of your life, a part of Madi’s life” Stiles cast a glance over at the girl who was staring at us, completely captivated by the scene in front of her. “Is the best thing that’s ever happened to me, because all I’ve wanted since I started falling for you, was to put this ring on your finger, and raise a little Madi” He said.
I tried to form words but I just sniffled as tears ran down my cheeks.
“Will you marry me?” He asked quietly, and I gaped at him, only able to nod my head quickly as I was still crying. Stiles stood up quickly, staring down at me with bright eyes and a huge grin. “Re-really you will?”
“Yes” I breathed, splaying my hands across his cheeks and pulling his lips down to mine, kissing him passionately and not even caring that we were making a big scene in front of an entire high class restaurant. His arms wound around my waist, holding me tightly and I could feel my own tears running onto his cheeks. “Yes of course, I’ll marry you” I mumbled, and his smile grew impossibly wider.
“Here” He said softly, pulling back just enough so he could slip the gorgeous ring onto my finger. “It was my moms… my dad wanted you to have it” He said, pulling out my chair for me to sit down and stare in awe at it. He sat back in his own seat and I was left looking at him with teary but love filled eyes.
“Is no one going to say how fucking smooth that was!” Allison broke the silence, and if the whole place wasn’t staring at us already, they certainly were now. I didn’t even have the heart to scold her for the use of the f bomb.
“I love you” I said to Stiles, reaching my hand over and intertwining our fingers together. He lifted our hands and pressed a kiss against my knuckles.
“I love you more” He murmured back.
“Mama?” Madi spoke, a curious tone in her voice.
“Yes dear?”
“So now he’s my real daddy?” She pondered, and smiled filled the entire table.
“He’s always been your real daddy” I answered.
