You love Magical Girls... You love Stars... Are there any like... Star Magical Girls in Magia Record? Like... based off a star or something similar?
Himena is based off of Tanabata legend, with her being Orihime-- aka the star Vega! Her boyfriend (Hiko) is based off of Hikoboshi, aka Altair. That said, I can't really say either of them are very "starry"? At least, they don't really scratch the star itch for me. They might fit the legend but not the aesthetic
Yachiyo has the most star-aesthetic design in the game imo, and she even gets two alts that more directly connect her to star stuff. Like, look at this:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Now THIS is a fucking star aesthetic.
Interestingly enough, Yachiyo gets linked to Vega via her Tanabata alt. And by association, that means Tsuyu Mizuna is also linked to Vega, and therefor Chizuru gets linked to Altair. Since Tsuruno and Sana are the magpies that help bring the two together, maybe we can pretend that they're Deneb...?
I dunno what it is with the game and its obsession with Vega, but it's a really cool star! In the future it will replace Polaris as the northern polestar. Another really cool thing is that Vega is a very important star for modern astronomers and is used as a reference when measuring other stars. It's not uncommon to hear it called the "second most important star in the sky," and it's the second star to ever be photographed (after the Sun of course)!
It's not a star, but Mifuyu gets linked to the moon. Curiously enough, Masara also gets linked to the moon in her doppel.
Chisato Shion has a doppel called "Spica" which is also the name of a star! (Pronounced SPY-kuh or SPEE-kuh). Spica is a really cool star from Virgo-- which yes is the "maiden" constellation but also the holder of the the scales/Libra, aka a constellation of justice. Kind of suits her. I wouldn't say that she has much other starry comparisons though.
Rabi is obsessed with stars, though her aesthetic is... regrettable. But I think it's interesting that she hangs around Nayuta (cow) and Mikage (bird, based off her doppel). In some ways she also has Altair elements, particularly the feathers (Altair is an eagle, a vulture, a falcon...). Altair is the cow-herding star in some places, and Mikage brings back to mind the idea of Deneb. Ashes wrote a piece comparing Hiko and Rabi (before we knew definitively that Hiko was a real dude), though regrettably the link seems to be broken.
Touka compares Iroha and her sister to two different stars at one point, but I can't remember what they were. I think it might have been in the Pegasus constellation...? I thought that was odd because I wasn't sure why those stars in particular, but I could 100% be wrong on my memory here.
Yeah! A surprising amount of star stuff in the game, but only a few of them really fit my aesthetic requirements.

川古の大楠公園 KAWAGO NO OOGUSU
Türkçesi aşağıdadır.
Japan's 15 Most Beautiful Trees: Kawago no Oogusu Kawago no Oogusu (Kawago no Oogusu) Age: more than 3,000 years old
Kawago no Oogusu is one of the giant trees that embody the history and natural beauty of Japan. The tree is dedicated to a deity, and its majestic appearance and abundant foliage give visitors a feeling of enveloping tenderness.
Kawako's giant camphor tree ranks fifth in the national ranking of giant trees and is believed to be more than 3 000 years old. The camphor tree has been designated a national natural monument and its grandeur is well worth a visit. The tree is 25 metres tall, with a trunk circumference of 21 metres and branches stretching 27 metres from east to west and north to south.
The main trunk of the camphor tree is hollowed out and an Inari stone monument is enshrined in it. It is said that the famous monk Gyoki visited the area in the Nara period (710-794) and carved a standing statue of the Kannon (Goddess of Mercy) on a section of the camphor tree, with a six-armed Kannon inlaid in its head.
Today the camphor tree is part of an urban park, but it was once an object of worship as the HIKO Shrine and has been protected for many years. As can be seen on older camphor trees, the roots that were once underground have risen above ground, so much so that the boundary between the roots and trunk is no longer recognisable.
Immediately adjacent to the tree is a water mill that utilises the flow of the river, creating a landscape in harmony with nature.
Takeo Onsen and the attractions of Saga Prefecture Saga Prefecture is a sparsely populated prefecture located next to Fukuoka, but its attractions are endless. Particularly famous are the wonderful Takeo Onsen hot springs. As a hot spring resort with a rich history, it attracts many tourists, who come to enjoy its healing properties.

“Sleep disorder? …That’s a thing?” Talking to the other made the mechanic feel really uneducated, sometimes. That statement doubled when she began listing off names and titles he couldn’t even memorize, but maybe that part was because he was trying to focus on not falling further behind in the race. “C-can you write that stuff down for me later? I can’t-- hold on, what the fuck is I Want To Eat Your Pancreas??? Is that… actually what’s it called?” The sheer bafflement made him drive off the road. Fuck. He can’t focus like this.
As if he needed any more distractions, what the other said next caused to fall off the road again. This time though, he cared more about refuting the ‘strange’ allegations. “I-I’m not strange! I think I’m actually like, the most normal person in our class!” Despite the indignation, he seemed eager to prattle on about his classmates. “There’s Hiko-- er, Fuyuhiko, the ultimate yakuza, but he’s actually pretty nice if you get to know him. He’s like, a chihuahua but human. Ibuki is kinda nice too, just don’t listen to her music unless you wanna get yourself traumatized or deaf. There’s Mahiru -ultimate photographer- whose like… the mom friend of the class, I guess? She nags me a lot… but she’s nice, overall. Hiyoko on the other hand is definitely not nice, especially to Mikan, our ultimate nurse! We have an ultimate chef too, which, u-um… is pretty blunt about his thoughts, it’s almost impressive... OH, and of course we have Miss Sonia!!!” His eyes lit up as soon as he mentioned her, a lovesick expression on his face as he sighed like a maiden in love. “She’s a princess!! A real-life princess!! An ultimate princess!! She’s like, so magical, like she came out of a Disney movie… She’s pretty nice to everyone! Um… m-most of the time, at least! But then there’s Tanaka…” It was almost comical how his expression flipped into a sour one. “He’s the ultimate animal breeder. I don’t like how he acts like he’s better than everyone. He talks like a villain from a movie, man! I-I mean, I guess… he’s not that bad, but… I just don’t like him. He gets on my nerves, but he’s not a bad bad guy. Just… saying.” For someone that hated the guy’s guts, he sure was trying not to ruin his image.
“There’s Nekomaru and ‘Kane, who like to train together, sometimes in the middle of the classroom. They’re nice though. Pekoyama, who’s kinda quiet but nice too! Same thing for Ryota — except he’s more shy than introverted. Uhm… a-and then there’s… Nagito.” The uneasy expression on his face said everything. “I uh, I don’t like that guy. He’s not bad, but… whenever he’s around my day goes south like, majorly. I got ran over by a truck once just so he can get free drinks from a vending machine… Oh, wait that sounded like he ran me over. He didn’t! It’s just his, like… luck cycle or whatever. Anyway, I told you about Chi, so I think I mentioned them all… but if you know anyone in the reverse course, you mighta heard of Haj, my soul bro!! He’s a really cool dude. I consider him the honorary member of our class, ‘cause he helps us around a lot! He’s too nice sometimes.”
It seems that amidst his rambling, he completely forgot about the game, talking expressively with his hands. Only when the course was over did he realize that he’s in last place, causing him to groan, holding his head in his hands again. “I hate the gay road,” he whined, unintentionally, snapping his head up when he realized what he said with his hands waving around frantically. “I-I meant the rainbow! The rainbow road!! I-I don’t hate… I-I meant…” Getting his tongue all twisted, he tried to change the subject with a question he was going to ask anyway. “S-so, what about your class?”
It wasn't too hard for Rio to pay attention to Kazuichi and make sure to smoke him in the races at the same time. Mario Kart felt kind of mindless to her, like going through a flow chart of decisions in order to maximize speed and guarantee the best items possible. "Mm... I don't know. I don't think I'm a workaholic." Certainly, Rio spent a lot of time with her birds, and compiling her research reports, but 'workaholic' was a bit much, wasn't it? "I just have a sleep disorder, so I get tired sometimes and need to recharge." That was oversimplifying it, but it was about as comprehensive an explanation as she was willing to get into while tearing up the Rainbow Road.
"Yeah, maybe," she said with a small shrug. "They just recently did a remake of my favorite Story of Seasons game, so I might check that out." Maybe she could play it with Chiaki. The brief times they'd interacted, it seemed to Rio like they would hang out together well, each doing their own thing. "Oh, but if you're into manga, senpai, you should check out Jump+." If someone was worried about falling behind, those kinds of online or app-based things were great.
"It's Shonen Jump's online publication, and they have their own original stuff, and they put the main issue on there too. They have free and paid content, so there's all kinds of stuff." If it came to action manga, or manga with more of a shonen focus, Rio wasn't quite as knowledgeable, being in that her main area of expertise was girl romances, but still. She had some ideas. Even if they might have been a bit basic, or the kind of thing Kazuichi was already familiar with. "You should check out Kaiju No. 8, or Chainsaw Man."
Rio herself was a little more into something like Golden Kamuy but baby steps. "Oh, and you're talking about A Silent Voice." Yeah, that was definitely a good one, and Naoko Yamada was one of the few women who had been able to overcome industry sexism to become a beloved director. "You should check out Liz and the Blue Bird, too, senpai, it's by the same director." Plus it had lesbians. "I like Mamoru Hosoda and Makoto Shinkai's stuff too, but I think the thing that made me most emotional was I Want To Eat Your Pancreas, maybe?"
Talking with Kazuichi like this, Rio was having a tougher time figuring him out than she'd expected. His whole reaction to the 'being gay' thing, and his posturing, made it seem like he had some serious toxic masculinity going on, but then to so easily admit to liking characters like Peach, or liking movies that made him cry? That was sort of complicating of that image. "You're a little strange, Kaz-senpai," Rio murmured, without any judgment behind the words. "Are you like this with people in your own class, too? Actually, I don't know a lot about your class, other than you and Nanami-senpai. What are they like?"

Kenshin loans his spinning top to Inuyasha after the hut burns down. As his innocence has been completely and utterly slaughtered with the final blow being his wife’s death on his sword, the man who must continue to be Battōsai until the new era comes - will stain his hands. It’s by sheer loyalty and kindness that his adoptive son not much younger than him travels with the teenager until he begins wandering at 19, after vanishing in the battle of Toba Fushimi .
Kenshin’s first wife Tomoe always sang this particular song to Inuyasha, / or this one  she knew like Enishi, she couldn’t replace either of their mothers, but wanted to be a soothing balm as being with such a young child was a much more natural thing. More natural say, then fighting the emotions ( like love ) other than grief making her feel differently towards the man who had stolen her ‘happiness’. At night, Inuyasha can hear the more distant member of an already quiet family humming the tunes softly under his breath quietly patting his blanket as the stray child sleeps in their hut. He finds out that the strange ‘medicine seller’ in Otsu Village can carry a note as nicely as his wife - though it still feels a bit off, there’s something warm in it. The care for him is genuine, even if Tomoe gazes at Kenshin with equally hesitant and sad eyes – and Kenshin at her with subconscious protective light. It was then he realized he was watching a ‘married couple’ falling in love.
Kenshin adores and helped slightly encourage Inuyasha to go over the village maiden who was so adept with herbs, Kikyou. Her bright eyes and loving spirit and earnest nature towards his adoptive child warmed him in a securing sense that even as he continued to roam the country to quell what injustice and suffering he could by peaceful means – she would be someone who could truly be a better ‘home’ for him then Kenshin feels he ever could be. In return, he was present for the wedding and never misses anything particularly special in their small family - a feared legend / nightmare who continues seeking peace for anyone but himself, his daughter-in-law who hides a will of steel behind her sweet demeanor, and his fiery son, who has an ingrained desire to help even though the world owes him nothing - and the gentle, soft, sorrowful ‘mother’ that died in blood and snow.
Inuyasha and Kaoru get along splendidly, as much as Kaoru and Kikyou do when Kenshin finally stumbles upon his own personal happiness and a ‘home’ in Tokyo. They often frequent visits there from Tokyo to Kyoto, back and forth interchangeably depending on which portion of the family wants to visit. Before that, Kenshin and Inuyasha exchanged letters of their time spent apart, updates on the country that fades into Kenshin’s own personal, generally inscrutable thoughts that only one or two fingers of people could count on their fingers beyond what he wants others to see or perceive about him.
He divulges on missing Tomoe, but finding hope in a fiery kendo instructor and her shared ideals – in a proud ‘Tokyo Samurai’ and a fist-brawling fighter who declares himself Kenshin’s ‘best friend’. Between their two loves, one new and another found as a symbol of hope for Kenshin’s family, Kikyou, ( who he’s helplessly doting on and often will take her side if she argues with Inuyasha because happy life happy wife! )  their two girls like to playfully see what the letter says by calling out, ‘is the news good’ from whatever tasks are going on - but neither girl pries. They know what these two share are sacred bonds.
When Kenshin hears about his real father, he merely smiles and says when he receives the Tessaiga, that he trusts him ‘to use it in an honorable way just as he is’ . Of course this embarrasses and flusters Inuyasha but he stops for a second at the pure love on Kenshin’s face that is purely familial and built from years of tragedy, war, and loyalty. As the new era rolls along into peaceful days – their constant over-protective bearings towards each other never change. Kenshin teases half seriously – ‘so when do we meet the other brother?’ to which Inuyasha has no problems whacking his very small father figure into the dirt .
When Kenshin leaves and ‘vanishes’ even in Kyoto, it’s Inuyasha that familiar with the former assassin’s pathways, and history with the swordsmith Arai Shakku, who gave him the reverse-blade’s first shadow ‘form’, knows where to likely track him as the ‘old man is always too stupid to involve people in his problems and would happily die bearing it all alone’ hence, joins Kenshin most likely in the battle against Shishio if not at least joining in the battle for the Aoi-ya alongside Hiko, either way, he finds Kenshin, plain and simple - and again, punches him.
Basically, these two have seen and suffered great loss, and found hope in family beyond themselves, but always, always come back to one another, from the original three, Tomoe, Kenshin and Inuyasha, to Kikyou, Inuyasha and Kenshin, to the Kenshingumi, Kaoru and Inuyasha and Kikyou and Kenshin himself – the family grows, and together they grow with it - and somehow in this gigantic growing family, they thrive - and Inuyasha’s wish of his father finding ‘peace for himself’ is fulfilled in meeting Kaoru and the others aside from being with his daughter-in-law and Inuyasha himself. In the end, what started as a tragic family? Becomes one big happy family that started from one little boy spooked by a scarred teenager and his quiet wife penning in a diary.
Each year Kenshin and Inuyasha visit Tomoe’s grave along with Kaoru and Kikyou. It becomes a family affair to not forget the past, to love it for what good it brought, but to accept the future and the present, and know that the one that is gone is happy. For the both of them. And smiling in both of them - after all, the ‘new world’ Kenshin spoke of is here and it’s just begun.

Comparing Kenshin’s maiden voice and male voice in the English sub and dub respectively has really made the distinction between genders more clearly for me. Kenshin always speaks with authority and about restoring law and order and it’s just not usually a role that females take on. Yes, as nurturing mothers they can be protective but it’s a totally different kind of protecting when a man takes on that role.
And some of the way people treat Kenshin just wouldn’t be acceptable if it was done to a woman. Not just how people are so aggressive with him since that seem to be Japanese slapstick comedy but kinda how Master Hiko would tease him. I don’t think he’d treat a female apprentice the same way.

This article continues the argument proposed in Barnes 2007 that Early Kofun rulership was predicated on knowledge of Chinese Queen Mother of the West mythology. A variety of archaeological and textual data, plus consideration of the historical circumstances in Japan's relation to the continent, are pulled together to support the idea that the Queen Mother was both legitimator of political rulership and a ruler's guide in the afterlife. It is shown archaeologically that the Miwa polity of the Early Kofun period was territorially circumscribed and could not have ruled over the entire western archipelago. The spread of the Mounded Tomb Culture beyond Miwa can be explained by the existence of a charismatic avatar of the Queen Mother (Himiko?) who attracted adherents for their own benefit. The Early Kofun burial system can be interpreted in terms of Queen Mother attributes, beginning with the monumental tombs themselves, their stone chambers, and the various pseudo jade objects and bronze mirrors—the most important of which bear the image of the Queen Mother herself. It is further argued that Amaterasu is likely the extension of Queen Mother ideology as reconstituted between the fifth and seventh centuries, continuing the important political functions of legitimating the rulership of historic Japan.
Gina L. Barnes. "A Hypothesis for Early Kofun Rulership." Japan Review, No. 27 (2014), pp. 3-29.
Terasawa hypothesizes一on the basis of ceramic, lithic and geographical considerations一 that there were at least three aggregations in the Nara Basin by the Late Yayoi period, focused on Shiki in the southeast, Kazuraki 葛城 in the southwest, and Sofu 層 in the north.12 This divisioning differs somewhat from the four divisions of the basin in Yayoi that I arrived at based on the distribution or bronze bell clusters.13 Either way, there is considerable evidence that the basin was not a homogeneous social space and that different groupings were present, affecting subsequent socio-political development into the Kofun period, when territorial development is usually assessed by monitoring keyhole tomb placement through time.
In previous publications, I used the rank-size rule to monitor keyhole tomb distribution in the Nara Basin.14 My two basic assumptions were that tomb size was indicative of rank in a political hierarchy and that tomb clusters stand as proxies for political centers. At that time, tomb dating as listed in my standard reference, the site surveys of the 1970s, was relatively coarse, with each tomb relegated to Early, Middle, or Late Kofun if at all, as opposed to the ten-phase system now in use and described above (EK1 etc.).15 In my early studies, the rank-size analysis revealed two concentrations of large keyhole tombs (tombs averaging 225.6 m in length) within the Nara Basin in Early Kofun, suggesting the partitioning of the basin into two polities (Figure 1). I hypothesized that these large-tomb clusters—SaKi 佐糸己 Tomb Cluster in the northwest and Oyamato 大禾卩 Tomb Cluster in the southeast—formed the centers of two polities: Saho 左保 in the northwest, focused on the Saki site, and Miwa in the southeast, focused on the MaKimuku site. The Hashihaka 箸 墓 tomb in MaKimuku is—according to the eighth century Japanese chronicle, the Nihon shoki 日本書糸己一the burial place of the Princess Yamato Totohi Momoso Hime イ委迹迹日百 襲媛,and is also thought by many to be the burial site of Queen Himiko 卑弥呼 mentioned in the Chinese Weizhi 魏志,chronicles of the Wei 魏 dynasty of China (221-265).
[...]
To bolster the hypothesis that the Miwa polity was limited to the southeastern Nara Basin, there is considerable documentary evidence that this polity had rivals in the northern Nara Basin as well as in the southern Kyoto M都 Basin. According to the Nihon shoki, during the time of the first Miwa sovereign, Sujin 崇神,troops were dispatched to attack a hostile force in Yamashiro 山城(southern Kyoto Basin). Sujin's seeress aunt, the Princess Yamato Totohi Momoso Hime, "told the Emperor that Takehani Yasuhiko 武埴安彦 was about to plot trea son against him."22 Aston's footnote comments that this prince was a "half-brother to the emperor (by the traditional genealogy) and he lived in Yamashiro.23 The Nihon shoki states that "the troops took sacred jars and planted them at the top of the acclivity of Takasuki 錄 in Warn 十口現 Then they advanced with their best troops and ascended Mount Nara and occupied it."24 Mount Nara 另|5羅, now named the Nara Hills, separates the Nara and Kyoto Basins一or separates Yamato from Yamashiro.
These actions suggest that the Wani Acclivity marked the northern boundary of the southeastern polity (rigure 1); Wani remains a modern place name in Tenn 天理 city and is located where the Furu 布留 river alluvial fan drops off towards the northern basin. In the Sujin chronicle, the person dispatched to deal with disorder in Yamashiro, using the Wani Acclivity as his launching point, was Hikokunifuku 彦國葺,later claimed as the ancestor of the Wani clan hypothesized to have occupied the northeastern basin.25 From this story, acclivity clearly formed a notional border, and ritual protection was needed to go It follows that Mount Nara, separating modern Nara and Kyoto prefectures, was not under Miwa's control and the Yamashiro location may have implied the area occupied Tsubai Otsukayama 椿井大塚山 Tomb.
If the northern area had to be first subjugated by military force Acclivity story), it was then affiliated to Miwa through marriage (the Saho story). The "Saho Uprising” x, reveals an attempted coup by the brother and sister pair Saho Hiko 左保彦 and Saho Hime 左保姬,the latter being "beloved" consort of the second Miwa 、も sovereign,Suinin 垂仁. Not only does the naming pattern of a place name Saho combined with the hime/hiko ヒ 1) メ •ヒコ(princess/prince) designation ---- imply this was a local ruling gender-pair, it puts them squarely in the northwestern basin, where the Saho river flows.27  The Empress, Saho Hime, refused to carry out Saho Hiko's plan that she murder her husband Suinin and indeed confessed the plot to her husband. However, when Suinin raised troops to storm the Inaki 稲城 (a rice granary compound?) of Prince Saho, the Empress fled to the side of her brother and was immolated with him in Suinin's firing of the Inaki. We can assume this story belongs to EK2 (second phase of the Early Kofun period), since the construction of the SaKi Tomb Cluster dating from EK3 began immediately after Suinin s death.
The building of the Suinin Mausoleum in the hills overlooking Saki took place at the beginning of EK3. As noted above by Miiraishi, the shift of royal tomb building from southeast to northeast Nara Basin is unexplained, though he identifies the Saki area as the homeland of the mother of Suinin's successor. By this, he must be referring to Suinin's second wife Hibasuhime 日葉洲媛,mother to Keiko 景行, who is allegedly buried in Saki Misasagiyama 佐糸己陵山 in Saki. However, I believe the building of Suinin's tomb in this area is directly related to his first wife, Saho Hime, and her treachery. That is, I see it more as a symbolic imposition of Miwa authority in the area after disturbances, which are portrayed in the chronicles as an attempted coup d’etat. The creation of the royal burial ground at SaKi with concomitant ritual visitations injected the physical presence of Miwa personnel. By incorporating the northwestern basin into the center's routine round of ritual activities and by emplacing visible forms of political authority on the landscape, the Miwa Court asserted its authority over a rebellious part of the basin.
[...]
The Nwon shom states that Suinin's predecessor Sujin took as wives the daughter of Arakaha 荒河, the Tobe 尸畔(Chief) of the Land of Kii 紀伊,and the daughter of Ohoshiama no Sukune 大海fe補 possibly from Omi,28 and perhaps another woman named Ohari no Ohoshiamahime 尾張大海媛 possibly from Owari 尾張.Suinin, after the death of Saho Hime, took to wife five daughters of Prince Taniha no Micninusni no Okimi 丹波道 主王(King of the Road) of Tanba 丹波.29 Then after his second wife Hibasuhime died, he obtained the daughter of Yamashiro Okuni no Fuchi 山城大國个遲(or 淵).30 The areas of Yamasniro and Tanba lie on routes north from the Nara Basin to the Japan Sea, while Kn forms an alternative southern outlet to the Osaka Bay region and Owari leads to the Pacific seaboard (Tokai) and Kanto regions. At least three of the name elements (Tobe, Nushi, OKimi) of the fathers of the brides indicate top-level persons in local hierarchies. The Miwa rulers can thus be seen through documentary evidence to have established personal ties to chiefly families in the Kinai region, and this expression of allegiance through marriage of daughters to the paramount by local rulers carried on into the historical period with sending of daughters to court as uneme 米女(court maidens).
These relationships suggest that Miwa allies existed in the Kinai region but not beyond; it is unlikely that the Miwa sovereign took wives from every local ruler who himself a keyhole tomb. Thus, although an incipient geographical hierarchy was built Mi was political dominance, it does not account for the rapid and far reaching spread of MTC. Nor do the stories of strife between local rulers such as Saho Hiko and the person Yamashiro speak for a state oreanization that was firmly in control of even the Kinai in Early Kofun.
In conclusion, the Miwa polity was limited in both its territorial and its social reach. Miwa did not lack military power, but this was deployed on a very local scale and was not involved in the imposition of the MTC throughout western Japan. Elite relationships beyond the basin speak not for uniform nierarchical and bureaucratic control but for a system of negotiated alliances with widely separated individuals, including the possible assignment of Miwa personnel to distant parts. If actual political power was seemingly so ephemeral, the question arises: why was the MTC culture growing out of the Miwa area so dominant among the regional chiefs at this time? To answer this, we must look at the contents of the burial repertoire that represents the major ritual activities in the Early Kofun period.

I didn’t forget my drabbles! I’ve just been rather distracted with cosplay/costume commissions, event planning, and fighting this cold to stay away.
Lord Hikoki, Part 2 (Part 1)
Being in her guest room, she couldn't help feeling uneasy. This certainly wasn't what she was expecting. It was unusual being this...pampered. “Well...I guess I should just enjoy it while I can. I hope Grandfather isn't too worried about me...I know the cold weather is gonna start soon.” She opened the hallway door to let the light in. However, she was surprised at the person about to knock. “Oh! Lord Hikoki.” Taking a step back to bow.
He stood there quietly, watching golden hair falling over her shoulder. “I just wanted to thank you.” He kept still, letting her stand up straight. His chocolate hues didn't hide the disappointment in himself. “I should have known he was possessed, and called a monk instead.”
She shook her head, “You only did what you thought was right. I just happened to have the right herbs Lord Hikoki.” Remembering earlier, “Oh, I'm sorry I yelled at your guard. I didn't mean to-”
“It's fine. Jun needs a good yelling at once in a while.” Giving her a gentle smile. She was still so tense around him, keeping herself small and confined. “Tell me, have you always been able to produce fire like that?”
Tucking her hair behind her ear, her bracelet shifted around her wrist. “Yes. My mother taught me years ago.”
“Was your mother the demon?”
She kept her eyes away, “No, she was human. She was a sorceress in my old village. Father was the demon, but he didn't create flames.”
“Hm.” He gave a subtle tilt of his head. “You are certainly unlike any demon or human I've met.”
“Well, I'm not really human or demon. I'm both.” Chou looked somewhat concerned, unable to smile since she was in this palace.
He shook his head. “No, I suppose you're not.” Seeing the servants coming, “It looks like your hot bath is ready. I will see you tonight.” Giving a small bow, he turned to leave.
Chou gave a deep bow in return, watching the two ladies who would help her clean up for tonight.
Later that evening, she was finished being prepped and ready. Chou was taken to the room where the others waited for her. Her head felt pulled in weird places with her hair tied up with fancy combs.
“There you are! Looks like you can clean up nicely. Come! Sit here.” Chou gave a nod, sitting across from Hikoki. “Tell them we're ready to eat!”
Watching them serve their food, she kept her eyes on her plate. Being careful to use her best table manners, she was almost mute from uncertainty aside answering questions from Headmaster Daiki.
“Drink more, this is a celebration!” He was certainly an energetic man, already finishing a bottle of sake alone. Chou found it hard to believe this was the same man who laid ill in his bed early afternoon. Looking into her own cup, she was three drinks in. The sake was sweeter than others she tried, and she felt she'd be rude refusing a drink. “Tell me girl, where is it do you get all these herbs? I know you trade regular with the villagers.”
“I travel all over. I can't remember each one, but I tend to stay near the middle of the island M'lord.” Finishing her forth drink, she felt herself finally relaxing some.
“Now, no formalities from you young lady.” Waving his pink index finger at her. “Hiko! Take the girl on a tour of our castle! Show her our gardens! Pretty ladies love pretty flowers!” Waving for another bottle as dancers came in.
“I think you've had enough to drink, father.” But he still stood up, looking to the flutter maiden. “Would you like to see the coutyard?”
“I uh...yes please, Lord Hikoki.” Seeing him offer his hand, she took it to stand. “Thank you.” Noting she was feeling quite warm from the sake, fresh cool air would do her well.
As he walked her in the garden, there were countless flora to see. The small breeze felt wonderful against her cheeks, unsure if she was actually stumbling her steps or not. She saw the butterflies, holding her hand out as they flew to her. Hikoki watched her curiously.
“How do you do that?” He stopped next to her, watching the bugs follow her command.
She looked away, a little embarrassed. “It just happens. They've always followed me since I was little. Father said it's why they named me Chouko.”
“Butterfly child.” He gave a nod. “It's beautiful.”
She would have been blushing, had her cheeks not already pink from the alcohol. Chou looked up at him. “Th-thank you, Lord Hikoki.” Watching the butterflies again with happiness.
He shook her head, “Just Hiko is fine.” Noticing a butterfly in her hair, he gently took it out. “That's the first time you smiled since you came here.”
She noted his compliment, looking down all nervous. “Oh. I-I guess so.” Noting his formalities starting to go, it helped her stay calm. When the butterfly fluttered out of his hand, the other insects went back to their nearby bushes. But he kept his hand near her face, fingers brushed her cheek gently. “Hiko?”
Tucking loose hair behind her ear. “Sorry. You must be tired from today.” Guiding her to the middle of the garden, they sat on the floor mat. “I used to sit here with my mother often.”
“She must have been beautiful.” Looking to the sky, she noted the sun nearly gone behind the mountains. Stars started peaking out one by one.
He gave a nod, “She was. But I lost her a few years ago, she was very ill.” Looking towards the sky, his expression pained from the memory.
“I'm sorry to hear that.” Looking to him, “I lost my parents years ago myself from a demon attack. But you seem close with your father. You're lucky.”
He gave a small scuff, “He drinks, has a new woman every night in his bed, and is always working. But he's all I have.” Looking down at her, he noted her shivering. “Are you cold?”
She looked away, rubbing her arm. “I-I tend to get cold easily.” Taking off his outer robe, he draped it over her shoulders. “Does this help?” Seeing her nod, Hiko wrapped his arms around her. Taking in her scent, it was a mix of oils and sake. “Chouko.” Saying her name somewhat slow.
“Yes?” Speaking quietly, she kept her eyes on the stars.
He looked back to the stars as well, “Are you...happy?”
“Happy?” Feeling his head nod against her. She seemed quiet for a long minute, finally speaking again. “I guess so. Are you happy?”
“...I'm not sure.”
Feeling the warm fabric over her, she wrapped it better around herself. She started looking up again before feeling one of her hair pins caught on the robe. Letting out a huff, “I dunno how girls can have these in their hair all the time.”
Hikoki had to chuckle, “I hear it's not easy. But it's something they get used to.” Reaching up, he carefully took each pin out for her. When the last was in his hand, her hair fell behind her. “Better?” Seeing her nod. Laying on his back, he invited her to lay against him. She did so, looking up at the sky with him. “Tell me, do you normally sleep under the stars?”
“If I can't find a place to stay for the night, yes.” Giving a hesitant nod. “I travel often, so I don't always have a roof over my head.”
“Don't you get cold?”
Pausing, she gave a nod. “Yes, but I can usually make a fire. It's not too bad. Sometimes if the weather is too cold, grandfather will get me.”
“Your grandfather?” His tone was amused. “The elder must be stronger than he gives to travel around looking for you.”
Chou let out a lighthearted giggle. “Grandfather is someone different. He's a powerful demon who decided to look after me.” Noticing his shift, she rested herself on her elbows. “He tends to act more like a protective father, but he prefers I call him grandfather for his age.” Looking at him from her stomach, her hair fell over her shoulders.
Looking up at her, “You sound lucky. Having someone strong to look after you.” His fingers twirled some of her hair, “Though I'm surprised he isn't with you now.”
She shook her head, careful of not letting her hair be pulled. “He doesn't normally join me when I go to villages. He's a bit intimidating, and has his own duties to take care of. He's kinda like a demon version of your father. But bigger, and more teeth.” Starting to let out a yawn, her eyelids felt heavy.
He noticed her yawn, giving a smile. “I'm sure you'd like to sleep in a bed tonight.” Sitting up, he watched her get on her knees before sitting upright. “Do you think I'll ever meet this demon grandfather of yours?”
Looking at his expression, she gave a small smile. “For your safety, I hope not. He's a little too overprotective, I'd worry he may scare or hurt you.”
His grin made her stomach have butterflies. “I'll keep that in mind.” He got to his feet before offering his hand to her once more.
Hiko walked her to her room, keeping her arm hooked in his. As she opened her door, she took his robe off to give back to him. “Have a good night, Lord Hiko.”
Taking his robe back, he gave a nod. “Good night, Chouko.”
As he went to turn away, she called to him, “Lord Hiko?” Seeing him stop to look back at her fully, he gave her a quizzed look. “You can just call me Chou, if you want.”
He gave another nod, “Very well. Good night, Chou.” He turned away, now leaving to head to his own room.
Closing the door behind her, she looked at the bed that was waiting for her. Carefully untying her belt, she seemed to struggle a bit before finding the right knots in order. She laid the kimono carefully on the floor before changing into her own freshly cleaned clothes. Now in bed, she let herself fall into a deep sleep. A servant walked by, checking on her. Seeing Chou was asleep, she walked in quietly to gather the kimono. She stared at the demon girl a moment, lips pressed before heading back out.

•  Polyromantic Relationships
- I'm not familiar with the idea of more than two people in a relationship, apologisies
•  Characters Might Be OOC
- (OOC: Out Of Character) I don't think it'll be accurrate if I write relationships with women as I've been with males only but depending on the characters I could study their personalities more
• Angsty/Character Death
- When I used to write stories I found it difficult to make the saddest endings or endings in general, I wanted the readers to cry their eyes out and have their heart aching but always scrapped them after awhile. Perhaps I could write angst now but with fluffy conclusions.
