Here it is folks, the long-awaited Genshin Impact Birthday Cake Breakdown, Episode 3: Sumeru Cake!
Details below the cut!
For a filling between the two layers, I’d recommend a Swiss meringue, stabilized whipped cream or another kind of frosting flavored with Saffron, Caramel, Coco, Vanilla, Tahini, or another nut/seed butter. If you want to try something a little different, you could try making an Iranian/Persian Halva (comparable in consistency to a fairly dry fudge) to add in a thin layer between the cakes, with or without additional frosting layered in.
Jumping right into it, the cake has inclusions that appear to be a nut of some sort and judging by the color and theme I believe that Pistachio would be an appropriate choice, though Almond is one of the few nuts canonically in Genshin Impact (according to the english translation) so that would also work. Cardamom, Rosewater, or Orange would be an excellent flavor accompaniment, especially since pistachio doesn’t have a super strong flavor on its own if you choose to go that route. If you use almonds, use blanched and halved ones, if you use pistachios make sure they're shelled and broken into pieces.
In the countries/regions of the world that Suemru is analogous to I found one kind of cake that stood out to me: Basbousa (also known as Revani, Namoura, Shamali, or Harissa) a kind of cake typically made with Semolina and yogurt that is then soaked in syrup, it can even be made with almond, coconut, or pistachio included in the batter. But if you’re feeling less adventurous, or simply want a consistency that is more expected of a western-style layer cake, then I do encourage you to at least find a recipe that includes your nut of choice in the ingredient list.
If the type of cake you choose allows for it, a syrup soak could enhance the flavors of the cake and keep it moist since it’s not frosted all the way around. Any of the flavors I suggest for other parts of the cake would be suitable for this, especially Rose, Citrus, and Cardamom.
Swiss meringue, stabilized whipped cream, or any other kind of frosting would be just fine for the piped star dots on the top, and the ring of dots around the filling as long as it has the correct consistency to make large full blobs.
Now for the decorations.
The berries on the side would likely be easiest to craft with fondant (which you can diy with marshmallows), but you could take that extra step to make the berries shiny by brushing them with egg whites or vodka and letting them dry. They also bear a resemblance to Goji berries, Cape Gooseberries, and Strawberries if you squint, so you could use some of those to decorate the cake instead. And though they do look quite a bit like tomatoes, I do not suggest putting tomatoes on your cake.
The Sumeru roses do not seem to have a real world counterpart, though Columbine, Dendrobium Orchid, Lisianthus, and Rose of Sharon flowers seem passably similar. Gum paste or fondant may be your best bet here otherwise. Crocus, Hibiscus, and Lily flower tutorials in your chosen medium would likely help you to best put together an accurate looking Sumeru Rose. If you plan to use real flowers, always check to make sure they’re not toxic before putting them anywhere near food.
The musical score and bird standing up in the back could easily be done with fondant or gumpaste adhered to dowels or skewers to keep it upright, but Chocolate would be an elegant option as well. The technique used in this video would work to create the large shapes and the bird, and this one would be suitable for the music notes and the treble cleff.
The leaf behind everything is large enough that fondant or gum paste might be too heavy without substantial support, so I would recommend using Wafer Paper/Rice Paper. This video should help in the creation of a big leaf (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mOI-I0IhUHY), though it may still need some support to stay in place. Synthetic lilypads and monstera leaves are available for purchase online and in some craft stores if you would like a simpler but inedible option.
That's a wrap! Good luck, and if you try to bake it be sure to share your efforts with me, I'd love to see!
The Aranara heads and hats would also be easiest to accomplish with fondant or gum paste, though it could be possible to make the heads themselves out of buttercream like the frogs in this tutorial, or to make them like cake pops. The hats would be doable if you follow a morning glory or leaf tutorial for fondant or gum paste, use whichever substance you’ve already used for the other elements. Just don’t forget the glasses, tiny leaves, and the little bow!
Finally, there appear to be blanched almonds, small pistachios, pine nuts, or lotus seeds placed around the edge of the frosting on the top, and scattered flower petals and more crushed nuts. Rose, violet, pansies, or edible orchids would work here, though I'd recommend orchids if you can get your hands on them.

Rice Paper What is Rice Paper? Do you have trouble finding the paper you need when you search the term
"rice paper" online?
This is because the term has multiple origins for various types of paper, all of which have different uses. Here are four completely different types of paper, each with a different use but all referred to as rice paper.
Paper Made from the Rice Paper Plant: No, there is no such thing as rice paper. A type of paper made from the Tetrapanax Papyrifer plant was imported to Europe from Asia around the turn of the twentieth century. Because of its Asian origins and bright white color, this paper was commonly, but incorrectly, referred to as "rice paper." This paper is commonly used in the creation of artificial flowers, as a shoe sole, and for painting. However, it is rarely used for writing.Edible Paper: Edible, thin, starchy paper is used to wrap Vietnamese finger foods in the food industry. This food wrapping paper is also known as rice paper or nir wrappers. Although rice starch can be used to make this paper, other ingredients such as tapioca starch, milk, and bananas can be added for flavor and texture.Wrapping Rice: There is a paper made from the bark of the Mulberry Tree that is used to wrap rice bundles for transportation in Asia. Even though it is an industrial mulberry paper, you can see how this paper is commonly referred to as rice paper.
Rice Paper for Art, Architecture, and Writing: Papers from Asian countries are frequently labeled as Rice Paper. Paper can come from a variety of countries and is frequently made with a variety of pulp and fiber ingredients. Different varieties of the mulberry tree are the most common source of pulp for rice papers. Because of their widespread distribution in the country of origin, other plants, such as the Lokta bush, are also used.
There are several types of rice paper that you may find useful if you are looking for rice paper for art, lampshades, shoji screens, or other creative applications.
The following are some of the different types of paper that are commonly referred to as rice paper:
Thailand’s Mulberry Paper: The Thais have perfected the mass production of mulberry paper. After meticulously preparing the bark strands, artisans handcraft mulberry paper in a variety of sizes and weights. Unryu Paper is soft and translucent, whereas Heavyweight Mulberry Paper is stiff and textured.Washi Paper: Washi paper is a highly refined mulberry paper from Japan. Japanese artisans have elevated mulberry paper to the status of fine art. One branch of Japanese papermaking focuses on crafting mulberry, mitsumata, and gampi papers to the such high quality that they can be used in book and document conservation efforts. When used to repair books, the conservation papers are defect-free and so thin that they are virtually transparent. Mulberry paper is used in another branch of Japanese papermaking to display intricate, artistic designs. Beautiful and colorful designs can be found on Chiyogami or Yuzen paper. Each color of the design is hand-silkscreened onto the sheet with care. The depth of color is amazing after 8 or 9 applications of silkscreening.Shoji Paper from Japan: Another popular application for rice paper is in architecture. It can be found in Japanese Shoji screens as well as translucent lamp shades. Shoji paper is a thin, semi-translucent mulberry paper that is typically left unbleached or bleached white. It is wetted and placed in screen frames. The paper shrinks as it dries. The paper becomes smooth and tight when held tightly in the screen frame.Hanji Paper from Korea: Hanji Paper is a type of rice paper from Korea. Hanji paper has traditionally been used for legal and important documents that must be kept for a long time. Hanji paper achieves this level of durability by incorporating Hibiscus’s mention into the paper pulp. The monitor adds strength to the fibers, preventing them from breaking down over time. The pulp mixture is also acid-free, making Hanji Paper an excellent archival paper.Nepalese Lokta Paper: The Lokta bush is more common in Nepal than the Mulberry tree. In Thailand, Japan, and Korea, the bark of the Lokta bush is used to make paper pulp in the same way that mulberry is. Nepalese artisans have become well-known for not only producing paper but also transforming it into useful paper products and decorations such as bags and rosettes. Lokta paper, like its cousins, is frequently mislabeled as "rice paper.
China’s Xuan Paper: Finally, rice paper made in China is known as Xuan Paper. It was made originally from the bark of the Pteroceltis Tatarinowii tree (a relative of the Elm tree). Other pulps, such as mulberry, bamboo, and rice, have found their way into the Chinese papermaking industry over time.

Exploring Polynesian Fabric: A Journey into Culture and Craftsmanship
Polynesian fabric, known for its rich patterns and vibrant colors, tells the stories of a culture deeply connected to nature, tradition, and heritage. Whether draped over a dancer’s body or used as home décor, these fabrics are not just textiles but symbols of the Polynesian islands' identity. In this blog, we’ll dive into the origins, significance, and modern adaptations of Polynesian fabric, offering a deeper understanding of its place in both traditional and contemporary design.
The Roots of Polynesian Fabric
Polynesia, a region made up of over 1,000 islands scattered across the central and southern Pacific Ocean, is home to several cultures and traditions. The art of fabric design in these islands can be traced back centuries, evolving over time as different Polynesian societies interacted with one another and the natural world.
The earliest fabrics used by the Polynesians were often made from plant materials like tapa (or barkcloth), which was crafted from the inner bark of trees such as mulberry or paper mulberry. The process of creating tapa cloth involved stripping the bark, soaking it, and pounding it into thin sheets, which were then dyed with natural pigments. These handmade textiles were often adorned with intricate geometric patterns, inspired by the environment—waves, plants, animals, and celestial bodies.
The Artistic Patterns of Polynesian Fabric
Polynesian fabrics are most notable for their intricate designs, often based on the island’s connection to nature. Geometric patterns, spirals, triangles, and other motifs are common and reflect the islands’ environment, such as waves, shells, and tropical plants. These patterns have symbolic meanings that can be tied to the stories, myths, and spiritual beliefs of the Polynesian people.
Spirals and Swirls: The spiral, often seen in Polynesian tattoo art and fabric design, represents the journey of life, the cycles of nature, and the connection between the past, present, and future. These shapes are commonly found in both clothing and ceremonial attire.
Geometric Shapes: Triangular patterns and diamond shapes often symbolize strength and resilience. These shapes are designed to reflect the community’s ability to endure and thrive despite challenges.
Nature-Inspired Motifs: Palm leaves, flowers, fish, and sea waves are motifs that frequently appear, embodying the islanders’ deep connection to the natural world and their reliance on the sea for sustenance and culture.
Modern Polynesian Fabric
While traditional Polynesian fabric still holds a prominent place in ceremonial and cultural dress, today, Polynesian fabric has also made its way into modern fashion, art, and home décor. Contemporary fabric designs often take inspiration from these historical patterns but adapt them to suit modern sensibilities and global trends.
For example, Hawaiian shirts, known for their bold floral and tropical patterns, are perhaps the most famous form of Polynesian-inspired fashion worldwide. These shirts, while not always produced in Polynesia itself, have become synonymous with laid-back island life and are made using vibrant Polynesian-inspired prints such as hibiscus flowers, palm trees, and tropical animals.
Similarly, Polynesian fabrics are commonly used in home décor, from cushions and drapes to tablecloths and wall hangings. These textiles bring the warmth and vibrancy of the islands into modern homes, with bold patterns creating an atmosphere of comfort, relaxation, and tropical luxury.
The Role of Polynesian Fabric in Cultural Identity
Polynesian fabric is not only a beautiful artistic expression but also a vessel for cultural storytelling. Many fabrics are still made by hand using traditional methods, and the designs continue to honor the heritage of the Polynesian people. This is particularly important as the culture faces the challenges of globalization and the loss of traditional crafts.
By preserving these practices and promoting the art of Polynesian fabric-making, the islands' communities help maintain their rich cultural identities and pass down their ancestral knowledge. Whether worn as a traditional garment or displayed as modern artwork, Polynesian fabrics remain a powerful tool for cultural expression.
Polynesian Fabric in the Global Fashion Scene
The influence of Polynesian fabric has extended far beyond the islands, finding a home in global fashion markets. Fashion designers, particularly those focusing on island or coastal aesthetics, have incorporated Polynesian patterns into their collections. Major brands have created items featuring Polynesian-inspired prints, merging tradition with contemporary styles.
In addition to mainstream fashion, Polynesian fabric has also become popular in the world of tattoo artistry. The intricate patterns from fabric designs often appear in tattoos, offering individuals a way to carry the significance of Polynesian art with them as a permanent symbol.
Conclusion
Polynesian fabric is much more than just a material—it's a symbol of heritage, nature, and the community’s deep spiritual connection to their environment. From the traditional tapa cloth to modern Hawaiian shirts, the patterns and meanings behind Polynesian fabrics continue to inspire and captivate. In a world of mass production, the handmade quality and cultural significance of these fabrics remind us of the importance of preserving and respecting traditions.
Whether you’re admiring the stunning artwork of Polynesian textiles or wearing a piece of history in the form of a Polynesian-inspired garment, these fabrics offer a unique glimpse into the Pacific islands’ artistic and cultural legacy. Embracing Polynesian fabric is an invitation to honor the stories woven into every thread.

Cities: A Modern Witch's Urban Sanctuary Part 4: Urban Magick
When in the city, it has its own unique options for magick. One such example is using cans that you've found on the street for such purposes as stringing them together and hanging them from your doorknob as a protection charm. There are many uses for cans. Make sure to clean them first, though. You can use scraps from broken tires for baneful magick as well as banishing. If you burn them, I would not recommend doing it indoors. Bottles found lying around, whether they be glass or plastic, have many uses. They can store moon water and other liquids that one might use in their practice. If the glass bottles are broken, you can put them in a spell jar to drive your enemies away. If you see some paper lying around, it can have many uses in your practice. Chicken bones from fried chicken discarded in front of your apartment building? Those can be used in your practice, too! Even those metal bottle caps can be used for luck, money drawing, or prosperity magick. You'd be surprised how ordinary, mundane-looking litter can be used in one's practice. Just make sure that you clean these items before you use them. You can also do things like use chalk to write sigils on your apartment building. If you don't have an altar, you can make one out of a milk crate with some plywood or thick cardboard on top. You might find feathers lying around, and those have many applications.
Many cities have occult shops where you can find a variety of supplies for your practice. However, if you do not have one or cannot go to one, there are other places where you can get supplies. Take grocery stores, for example. The spice section has a wide variety of common herbs that one might use in one's practice. Some herbs can be found in the tea section. You can use loose-leaf or bagged tea. One thing that I've done is get herbs from the tea bags (chamomile, lavender, hibiscus, lemongrass, and safflower, among others). You just have to cut them open to get the herbs. Some herbal tea blends have herbs that you can use for a specific purpose. For example, Bigelow Red Raspberry has ingredients that are good for love spells, including self-love. If you need fresh herbs, common cooking herbs can often be found in the store. Really, a lot of herbs and other items used in one's practice can be found there. Some stores also have incense, candles, notebooks, and pens or markers in a variety of colors. Some stores have those flat marbles, which you can use to make a DIY set of rune stones. If you don't have any spring water available, you can get those gallon jugs of spring water at most grocery stores. If there is a craft section, I'd recommend checking it out. Most grocery stores have a place where you can buy cookies and the like, which can be used as offerings. If you're on a budget and have a local Dollar Tree, you can usually get candles, incense, dried herbs, salt, notebooks, a variety of craft supplies, cookies, dolls to represent the god and goddess, cartons of eggs to make eggshell powder, and many other items that one can use in their practice. Really, if you're creative and open-minded enough and know where to look, you can find a wide variety of things to use in your practice. I would recommend checking out the seasonal items, too.
Back to the matter of herbs and such things. If you don't want to go out to buy herbs, flowers, vegetables, and the like and are patient enough, you can grow your own. Some plants can be grownn on the window sill, or on your balcony if you have one. If there is a communal garden, try to find out if that's also an option to grow your plants. If you grow your plants indoors, I would recommend purchasing a grow light. If you grow your plants indoors, you will probably have to hand-pollenate certain plants yourself. Thankfully, there are a wide variety of videos on YouTube that give instructions on how to hand-pollenate your plants. Some plants come in dwarf or container varieties, which can be useful if you don't have a lot of space. For example, many micro dwarf tomatoes grow to be less than a foot tall. You might have to order some seeds online, though.
In the city, you can cast almost any spell that you can cast elsewhere. You can find almost any ingredient that you need if you're creative and resourceful enough. If you look for it, you'll probably be able to find it in the city. Who knows? You might find something you can use that might surprise you. As they say, sometimes you don't know what you're looking for until you find it.

Correspondence: Friday
Word Origin: The term “Friday” comes from the Old English word “Frīgedæg.” This day was named after the wife of Odin, though her exact name has been debated. Some call her Frigg and others say, Freya. Some scholars even view Frigg and Freya as two separate goddesses, but the root of the name remains the same in the etymology. In the Greco-Roman pantheon, Freya is translated to Aphrodite and Venus. Because of this association, the prefix “ven-“ is used in several other languages for the word “Friday”. For example, in Latin it is “Dies Veneris”, in Spanish it is “Viernes”, in French it is “Vendredi”, and in Italian, it is “venerdì”.
Folklore: Friday is linked to the Roman goddess Venus, who encompasses love, sex, desire, fertility, and victory. Furthermore, Friday is also linked to the Germanic goddess Frigg, or Freyja based on the translation from some Slavic countries. Frigg was the goddess of fertility and motherhood, whilst Freyja was associated with love, beauty, fertility, sex, gold, and war. Folklore depicts Friday as an unlucky day, yet some believe it is a day of good fortune and prosperity due to people sowing seeds on Fridays - it resembles the life that comes after death similarly to how Jesus was resurrected from the tomb after his crucifixion. This day is therefore associated with all forms of love, fertility, beauty, glamour, romance, sex, sexuality, divination, wisdom, and youth.

Dalton Big Bang day 22 - That’s What We’re Here For
Writing Masterpost, AO3 Link
Notes: Logan in therapy is a thing I care about very deeply and he needs a good therapist to help him out. Did you really think I'll write about anyone else in therapy?
"This is Dr. Blake's office," Johnny told Logan as they left the horrid medicinal smell of the office building and entered a room that could best be described as what would happen if a unicorn projectile-vomited.
Well, maybe he was exaggerating a little, but still! The walls were a light lilac color, decorated with fairy lights and childish doodles painted on colorful paper; the wall near the door had several bookcases on it, full of crafting supplies and tabletop games and books Logan didn't care to check out, and next to them was a white desk with two colorful chairs right up against the wall.
There were also a small coffee table and a light blue suede couch opposite the desk and chairs. The couch was covered with plushies and there was a soft blanket folded neatly on the armrest. That was the biggest offender in his opinion. That couch in particular.
On that couch sat a young man, about somewhere in his thirties, sipping a cup of tea and looking straight at Logan. He sported slightly messy light brown hair, in a way that still seemed intentionally so, and frameless glasses that sat high on the bridge of his nose; Logan believed that, had the glasses been different, maybe his green argyle sweater vest and khaki pants combo would look less nerdy and more… well, more like something. Anything, really.
"Dr. Blake," John greeted the man, nodding a bit as a courtesy.
"Senator Wright." His voice was calm, but as his face broke into a smile Logan could hear it change into something else. "And this must be John—"
"Logan."
"Yes, of course. Excuse me." As the therapist stood up, Logan could see him grab a cane he hasn't seen before, that until now was resting on the small table. At a closer glance, he could see the man's leg wrapped in a bandage of some sort. "It's nice to meet you, Logan. I'm Arin Blake, you can call me Arin, or Dr. Arin, or Dr. Blake if you so fancy, I honestly wouldn't mind."
"Yeah…"
"Don't fuck this one up," Johnny threatened Logan as he turned to leave. "Your psychiatrist recommended him to us. Don't make her regret it—"
"Actually, Senator, I'd rather you joined us today."
The man was already on his phone by then, but at least he didn't leave, which meant he listened probably. Still surprised at the suggestion though, which showed on his face. Logan just scowled as he went to sit on the truly offensive couch - as instructed by the doctor - and grabbed a cat plushie to hold.
A brown cat plushie, not too fluffy, with embroidered black eyes and a stupid expression.
Kinda reminds him of Julian. In a way. He's not sure which.
"In order to understand what we're working on here, I'd like to also hear your side of the story," Blake continued as he sat down in a chair in front of them. Johnny took the other side of the couch. "Can I offer you coffee, tea? Water?"
"Coffee is fine," Logan shrugged.
"To me as well."
"Just remind me for a moment, which medication are you prescribed?"
Logan may have rolled his eyes at that.
"Prozac, and I'm starting to take adderall soon."
"I see…" he hummed to himself as he got up and left the office, leaving Logan and Johnny in uncomfortable silence.
Dr. Blake's cup of tea was in a big blue mug, decorated with a print of tiny cartoon citrus slices. A clear plastic teaspoon stuck a bit over the top, and Logan inspected the little tag on the tea bag. Hibiscus apple cinnamon. Sounds fancy enough.
He just about took his phone out and started playing something when Blake came back, hopping on one leg almost, and put two disposable cups in front of them. Johnny's was a cup of coffee. His, though…
"I asked for coffee."
"And isn't this it?"
He took a sip. "It's… it's fine." It wasn't. There was too much milk, he could tell just by looking it. This was just a confirmation. "Thanks."
"So how about you both tell me why you're here?" The doctor sat back down in his chair, waiting for an answer.
"I don't know if you've heard in the news, but there was a fire at Logan's school—"
"Don't act like that's the reason we're here." Logan waited for his father to get red in the face. He always did. So he just leaned back and counted the seconds. "You brought me here because you think that everything wrong in your life is the result of me simply existing, and your only excuse to actually do it is that the people you dumped me on when you couldn't bother with keeping me around anymore can't look after me now."
"How do you think people would have reacted to my campaign if they knew—"
"Oh, come on, not everything is about your FUCKING JOB!"
"Okay, okay, Logan put that cup down." He did as he was told. After all, he can't fuck this one up, can he? "Now, without exploding on each other, please tell me what's going on."
"Logan's school burned down back in March—"
"February."
"—and he's only been getting worse since. He's always had anger issues, but since then he won't stop acting out. Usually over quite… petty things too."
Blake pushed his glasses further up, if that was even possible. "Petty things like what?"
"Like…" Johnny faltered, fumbling for words. So Logan spoke for him.
"Like that time last week when I asked if I can go visit my friend in California and you said I can't because what if his mom says no."
"Ms. Larson is a very busy woman, Logan. You can't just expect her to let you stay over because you wanted to on a whim."
"Well, I'm not five anymore, I don't think it really matters so much whether or not she can—"
"Let's stop it right there, again, Logan." Dr. Blake's stare made Logan curl up into himself. "Repeat that, now calmly."
Logan swallowed rather hard before talking again.
————
"Tell me a little about your friends," Dr. Blake asked at another meeting, about five weeks later. Logan sat on the chair closest to the desk, hugging the cat plushie again, and focused on drawing some flowers.
Lily of the valley. It was the only flower he could draw well. And isn't that just sad.
"There's Derek," he started, drawing the stems. "He… well, if he put half as much energy into caring for himself as he does for caring for me, I think the world would be a much better place. I think he's trying to compensate for this with girlfriends. It's kind of worrying, to be honest."
"But he cares for you?"
"Yeah. Sometimes a bit too much. It's… it's funny, actually, because… he really needs to work on himself. He can't fix me no matter how much he tries, because he's not some miracle worker and my mental health isn't fixable—"
"But it is treatable. And that's what we're here for."
"Yeah. I just… I find it funny, because he spends so much time trying to fix me that he's completely ignoring himself, and then he goes off and thinks having a girlfriend is a good replacement for self care. But I can't just tell him that… he'll get upset and then say it's not important and I'm just obsessing over it because reasons, and then when I get upset over not understanding he says it's my anger issues and I should be medicated."
"And why do you think he's doing this?"
This was the type of question that Logan quickly learned Blake loved asking. 'Why do you think', 'why do you feel', as if he wasn't the expert here. It was weird, having someone interested in his opinion without calling it anger issues and shutting him up, or telling him it's stupid and all that. He wasn't sure he could get used to it, but he certainly felt like he was, and it scared him.
"I think… I think he's just worried… he has anxiety, and I think he's reflecting it onto others because he doesn't know how to deal with it himself…? I know his parents don't know how to. So neither does he."
"And your other friend?"
Logan put down his pencil and picked a yellow one, throwing Blake a look.
"Julian is… he's cool. I miss him, I haven't seen him in months and he can't come over for vacation because his mother won't let him."
"Is he just cool?"
"I mean… he's one of my best friends, so… he's cool. He's very snarky sometimes… well, most of the time… and we talked about it a while ago, about why he's like this, and it was before revising my diagnosis, and he didn't really understand that I was insulting him back as a fight or flight response and he thought I was enjoying it… umm…"
Blake just pushed a mug closer to Logan. It was a clear mug, full of a bright red liquid. The hibiscus apple cinnamon tea. He made it for Logan today, as an attempt to get him to like something with no caffeine. Apparently coffee was bad for adderall. He assumed it'll be okay though.
"We're working on it now. And he needs physical therapy, so it's not like we really can do it in person, but we call each other every day and stuff…"
"You should visit him, then," the doctor suggested, making Logan snort.
"I don't think he wants me around… his boyfriend is there to keep him company. It's fine. Well… not his boyfriend. I'm not sure what they are. It's complicated, I think. Jules says they're not dating but they sure have a—"
"Dearie, are you jealous?"
He just laughed again. "Of Julian? Nope. Not in a million years. Of Sebastian? I… I don't actually know. I mean, he and Julian aren't together even if sometimes it feels like it, and Jules did say I'm his best friend and stuff, but on the other hand he makes him happy, and…"
"And being jealous is okay, so long as you put it into a healthy outlet and not into anger. Talk to Julian about it. See what he thinks and says."
"But… we talked about it… kind of… he said he's in love with me, but it wasn't at a very ideal situation, and… we agreed to not talk about it. Just… let ourselves work through it, figure out what we really feel… what he really feels… and then we'll see where we go from there."
"That's good. But ask him for clarification, okay? Don't make your head spin like this."
Logan just nodded along, grabbing a blue pencil to shade in the flowers themselves.
"So I think I'm going to visit Julian soon," he continues. "I'll ask Derek to join me too… maybe I can buy him a gift…"
"That's a nice idea. What does he like?"
"He likes… cats, and candy… maybe I can get him new sunglasses. I think he'll like sunglasses. Or coffee…"
"Is coffee a gift?"
"Expensive coffee, maybe."
The doctor just laughed. "How about starting small… what about flowers?"
"...I can get him flowers…"
"That you can. I fear we're running out of time, though." Logan looked up from his drawing, a bit disappointed. "We can keep talking about this next week too, okay?"
"Okay… sorry for wasting time like this."
"You've wasted no time, dearie. It's all good. Just remind your father to write me a check, yeah?"
————
Logan crashed on the blue suede couch and covered himself all the way up over his head the second he made it to Dr. Blake's office that day. Sure, he was still wearing his huge coat — New York was especially snowy this winter, like, much more than usual — but he didn't really want to show his face to the world, and the receptionist who asked him to wait earlier was on the receiving end of his panic attack. It wasn't fair to the others, and it just… it wasn't…
"Do you want me to make you tea, dearie?" Blake asked him, rubbing his back. He sounded worried.
Logan just nodded and whimpered.
"Okay… try to breathe while I'm gone, okay? In for four, hold for four, out for four. Think you can do that?"
He nodded again.
"I'll be right back."
As Logan waited for Blake to come back, he started crying again. Winter vacation wasn't treating him too well, between fighting with Julian back at school right before coming home and getting yelled at by his father for flirting with the son of an associate (well, the guy was pretty cute, and certainly down to fuck) and probably the cherry on top, he was late. It wasn't as bad as the others, but he was late to this appointment, and he had so much to talk about, and…
"Logan, can you hear me?" Blake asked after what felt like forever, holding his hand. Logan whimpered again in response. "Come on, let's breathe together. I'll count."
He didn't even feel how long it took before he was sitting up, a second, weighted blanket on his shoulder, drinking his tea. Dr. Blake was still there, helping wipe his cheeks with a tissue as Logan tried to calm down.
"...Julian and I had a fight."
"Okay… what was it about?"
"I… I tried talking to him again, about… about us, and our relationship, and where does our friendship go, and he screamed at me that he's tired of talking about it and that I need to stop bringing it up, that he's with Sebastian and that's it, and then I yelled back and I… I may have slapped him, but…"
"That's bad, dearie. You know it's bad."
"I know! And I hate myself, I hate myself so much for doing this! He doesn't deserve a friend like me, I'm… I'm possessive and an asshole, and he just…"
"Okay, here's where you're wrong," the doctor told him, taking one of his hands. "You're wonderful, Logan. You're a great friend, and Julian didn't tell you he hates you. He didn't say you're terrible."
"But he implied it."
"He did not. It was an intrusive thought. What did Julian say, exactly?"
"...he… he said it's, he said that he's tired of talking about it, and that… that he already has a boyfriend, so I can't... " He hiccuped.
"Exactly… nothing about you as a friend. Open your phone and call him for me, okay? I want you to talk to him, and I want to see you do it."
Logan just nodded, a bit hesitant. He fumbled with his phone, trying to avoid looking at Julian's number, but ultimately he just… did.
Julian answered at the third ring.
"Hey, Lo."
"Hey…" he sniffled a bit. "I just… I need clarification on… on something." He looked at Blake for approval, wiping his eyes with a finger. Blake just nodded.
"Sure, what's up…?"
"Just… when we… had the fight. And you screamed at me and I screamed back, and…" Logan took a second. "Jules, do you hate me?"
"...are you high right now? Seriously. Are you?"
"No… I'm in… never mind."
"Okay... Lolo, I can't hate you. You're my best friend, you know how much I love you, but sometimes I can get mad or frustrated. Just like you do." He could hear the disappointment in Julian's voice almost. "I'm with Sebastian now. I'm happy with him. I love you, I really do, but you constantly asking me if I'm sure I'm happy and if we can give it a chance is getting tiring. I'm sorry, but it's getting really difficult."
"I… I'm sorry… Jules, I—"
"I accept your apology. I'm not mad at you, you don't have to get so anxious about this. You're starting to act like Derek."
"I'm still sorry…" he could finally take a breath, looking at his therapist for approval again. "That's… that's all I… I'm just in therapy, and…"
"Okay… go back to therapy. Don't waste time talking to me. I love you."
"Yeah… me too."
Logan hung up after that and turned to sip his tea, which has now cooled down.
And then the doctor spoke. "I'm proud of you. You don't need to apologize so much, you're doing just fine, but you did great. I'm so proud."
"Thanks." Logan forced a smile.
Maybe… maybe things would be okay, at the end of it all. He sure hoped so.
————
"I'm going to ask Julian out," Logan announced one day, two years into seeing Blake, just waltzing into the office. He may have caught his doctor by surprise, but as he sat down and grabbed his cat plushie, Blake straightened back up and cleared his throat.
"Doesn't he have a boyfriend, though?"
"Not anymore! And he said he doesn't want a rebound but then we talked about it and—"
"Okay, slow down. Let's start from the top. Julian broke up with his boyfriend?"
Logan nodded, then started rambling — "apparently they grew apart, at least it's what he told me, but I'm kinda pretty sure Sebastian cheated on him with Blaine? Blaine is my ex, he's kinda… meh. But yeah. So they broke up, like, three weeks ago, and Jules said he doesn't want a rebound so fast after the relationship, but I can build up to it! I can… I can start talking to him about it, right?" — all while Dr. Blake listened, nodding along to what he was saying.
"...okay… we can build up to that, then. I can help you do it if you're nervous about it."
"I'm really nervous about this…"
"Okay, okay, I can help. But first, how was your week? I made you tea."
"I saw that, thank you, but…" his stomach fell. "My week was so boring… college is boring. I have an exam in two weeks that I'm not sure I'm ready for, Alex had a mental breakdown the other day that I had to help with because nobody else was around, my dad visited…"
"And how is your dad?" Logan rolled his eyes at this question. "No, no no no. You answer me. How is your dad?"
"He still thinks I'm gay for the rebellion part of it. I mean, he'll get over it, I have faith in Michelle to make him change his mind, but… he and Michelle visited, and it was really nice. I missed both of them so much. But the second he saw my friends again he started talking shit, because Drew's voice dropped a lot since the last time they met and he started making transphobic remarks and it was… it was bad. It was so bad."
"Did you help Drew out?"
"Yeah… and then my dad got mad at me and we went into a screaming match. But it's okay, Michelle… did her best to get us to talk. I think he understands it now… not the gay thing, but… the transgender thing."
"That's good…"
Logan opened his phone right before the end of the session, as Blake was reminding him to remind his father to pay and that next week they'll talk in video chat, same day same hour. He nodded along, looking through to his messages to Julian — there — and getting up and out.
Lolo: I know you said you don't want to get back at it this early, but when you're ready, wanna go on a proper date…?
Lolo: also, can we talk about something? I have an exam soon and I'm anxious as shit
He kept staring at it as he went downstairs and to his car, watching the text on the screen dance with a pain in his chest.

Clothing: lots of cropped tops and loose pants she can move around in, more formally, she goes more skintight
Physical health: healthy, which is good because she's a huge baby about getting sick
PERSONALITY/INTERESTS
Personality: confident, ambitious, sometimes both to a fault. Can be a bit blunt/direct and tactless, will take charge of a situation if she feels she has the skills to solve it, "I can, so I must," soft and compassionate, can be a little too "nice" and make situations worse by trying to do the "right" thing (her opinion of the right thing, is the problem), a bit of a know it all, addicted to being right

Skills: dream walking/visions (non-specific/non-directed), flower and herbal cultivation and crossbreeding
TRIVIA
Ky has a taste for experimental concoctions and has definitely put herself into altered states both by accident and on purpose
A total princess about taking it up the ass - open to it, just a huge brat about it
Ky does a lot of things by feeling that turn out to be correct. A lot of it is latent memories informing her decisions.

Clothing: lots of cropped tops and loose pants he can move around in, more formally, he goes more skintight
Physical health: healthy, a huge baby about getting sick
PERSONALITY/INTERESTS
Personality: nervous, supportive, sweet-natured, quietly sarcastic when very comfortable or angry, can spiral into anxiety at the first sign of mistake on his part, will take over a situation if someone seems even more unsure or seems scared, can be very brave if it's Necessary, in general can rise to need, but only if it doesn't feel like someone else can do it, "I must, so I can," very vain (rooted in insecurity/perfectionism)
Likes: snow, silk, cuddling, spending time in the garden, napping, genuine praise
Dislikes: giving directions/orders, pressure

Skills: cultivation and splicing of plants, especially fruit trees and flowers, dream walking, learning, reverse-engineering, and modifying magical processes, magical healing and physical therapy
TRIVIA
Ky embroiders handkerchiefs and scarves. He gives them as gifts, but also has a personal collection that he puts into his coat pockets whenever he needs to dress formally around the palace. They’re perfectly matched to outfits Nadia has tailored to him. Asra and Muriel have quite a few. Maybe too many, according to Muriel. Not according to Asra.
Nadia renovated the menagerie, after rehoming all of the exotic animals, into a garden for Ky to tend to - it is filled with many plants, both domestic and foreign, and a few secluded canopies and patios to relax under

Skills: dream walking/visions, enchanting items, brewing the perfect cup of tea, lightning and blood magic, levitation (both Kys relearn all of these eventually)
TRIVIA
Ky documented everything extensively as a service to society. It wound up being a service to Asra and their resurrected self, and basically nobody else. They have dozens of notebooks containing almost every spell, ritual, and concoction they ever came up with
Had they been left to their own devices and not died of the plague, Ky may have eventually secluded themself into a dream forever and lost touch with reality.

Note
I'm curious now so I hope it's okay to ask, but does Rey have a favourite type of flower or does she just love them all equally? :>
She has a lot! She loves cherry blossom, plum, peach, or apple blossom as well. The hibiscus flower, primerose, forget-me-nots...She likes to craft paper flowers so she doesn’t have to cut any x3
Also, she knows the language of flowers!

✧ . 🌸Beltane Solitary Rituals🌸 *✧
Bluebells are popping through the freshly sprouted glass, blossom petals litter the streets and flowers burst open to bloom on every lawn and ceramic pot as we approach the pinnacle of Spring. The time of the Spring Crossquarter, Beltane, is upon us! It's time to re-pot house plants and give them plant food, sow seeds in the garden, sow seeds of intention and give back to nature. Beltane is nested perfectly within the earthly season of Taurus and near Earth Day and I feel like it's a second earth day for pagans and witches.
Beltane is the sabbat that mirrors Samhain, though it's celebration is completely opposite (fertility and life vs death and the end) it has the same intensity of the Halloween festival. Instead of spirits, it's the fae that is out and about, mad with excitement at the stirring earth, causing pranks, confusion, hayfever and mischief to their victims as pre festival activities as they prepare for their grand fairy queen ball. With other witches I've celebrated this by dressing up as a fairy or spirit of nature which felt a lot like a halloween yet more etheral and mysterious than spooky, yet this post is for solitary witches that don't have their own community to do a whole fairy ball with.
A lot of witches practice alone and have our own solitary rituals for each sabbat that we observe (or the ones we’ve created just for ourselves that we observe alone!) Like any solitary eclectic witch I do things my own different way but some of these things might line up with others practices. I do refer to some of the equinoxes/solstices/crossquarters by their celtic sabbat names but I celebrate them in a secular animist way and treat the wheel of the year I celebrate as more of an agrarian cycle and celebrating nature. I use sabbat names as a point of reference and also people that do celebrate these witches sabbats more traditionally might find value in my personal practice! Here is my personal correspondences post and my personal Beltane tag!
When I am alone and casting spells a lot of it is visualization/intent so my solitary rituals are more like activities I like to do then specifically casting a spell. If I am doing a spell with an activity based on it a lot would be listening to music to get in the mood and focusing on a candle while visualizing for a period of time! Eves are also important to my celebration as I like to stay up until midnight to cast a spell then!
Spring Crossquarter’s Eve
Monday, April 30th 2018
Clean litter around your area This is a great excuse to go on a nature walk and enjoy the wonderful spring weather, yet also please the spirits of nature and make our green spaces more enjoyable and safe for the beings that live in it. Wear some gloves and help clean up!
Enjoy snacks while doing crafts like green pepita seeds, red radishes, gummy worms, pixie sticks, chocoshrooms, unicorn inspired anything, fairy floss, kale chips etc!
Watch Fairy Films while doing crafts There are some movies I hardcore associate with this sabbat. Those being: Strange Magic, Thumbelina, LABYRINTH, fern gully and stardust. They help to get you in the spirit!
Make LED flower lights If you are feeling creative and want to cover your space in glowing flowers you should try this craft! If you can get fabric tulips I think the process would be easier and quicker since you wouldn't have to layer.
Flower tealight bowl If you still want flowers but don't have too much time for crafts, get a bouquet of flowers and cut their stems off. In a wide glass bowl, fill it half way with water, and float the flowers on top. Add tealight candles to light up the piece.
Make paper flowers I have so many of these DIYs saved and they are super pretty. You can add LED's inside too and have large paper flowers glowing in your space! ( 1 , 2 , 3 , 4 , 5 )
attach them to a branch! ( 1 , 2 )
make garland
Hang chimes! Enjoy the fairy festivity by hanging twinkling chimes! It’s a low energy activity that can make the space feel wonderful. Open the windows to let in some sweet spring air and have the chimes twinkle.
Make Flower Water! Simmer lavender petals or rose petals in a pot of water. If it's edible you can use the water in cooking but if not you can use the water as a cleansing wash and to elevate the energy! Get a perfume bottle to put rose water in and mist the air in your space.
Midnight
This night is known as witches night and often has been an evening for ritual dancing and witches flight. It's also a good night to do attraction magic
Bloom Focus on what you'd want to bloom and grow further in your life. Whisper your wishes to the flowers outside and sprinkle full moon water on them as an offering.
Attraction Magic This time of the year things start to speed up and it's easier to get certain outcomes, people or resources to come to you. Use this evening to do spells to attract what you need to create an ideal summer. Candle magic (Bonus if it's floral ) would make a great attraction charm especially for the element of fire on this festival and that you can carve your wishes onto it.
Sex Magic This is a festival of fertility and deep fiery creative manifesting energy. It can pull on the lower energy pools of the body. If you are comfortable with that part of yourself you can tap into that energy and the energy of the stirring earth with masturbation and using it to manifest what you want. Before hand meditate and visualize what you want to manifest. While climaxing focus your energy on that and you will release powerful energy towards that spell while orgasming. You can also charge charms and sigils this way. You can use safe tumbled crystal eggs and 'massage' wands (I always stick to quartz based minerals or glass products since those don't dissolve in water), anoint yourself with oils, burn rose incense, take a self indulging floral bath with flower petals to seduce yourself before hand, light candles, there's a lot of magical tools and magic in general to incorporate into this ritual. It's very self indulging and all about making yourself comfortable and using your own unique energy (plus orgasming on the midnight of Beltane is a great way to bring in the festivity while alone haha).
Spring Crossquarter's Day

Dress like a fairy or in florals I love to dress in florals or in flowery lace on this day. If possible you should dress up like a fairy or spirit of nature but if you have to be a functioning human in modern society not many places might accept that so a quieter way would be to dress floral. Wear a flower crown! Make a ribbon wand. Use your own colorology/color correspondences for the ribbons you pick. Tie ribbons in a braid in your hair for knot magic. Wear rose oil or any floral fragrance oil that is your favorite (I am obsessed with hyacinth).
Flower Essences A wonderful form of flower magic is flower essences. It's a gentle way to heal and transform your energetic and emotional body. Is there something you want to let go or manifest within yourself? You can look that up like (thing I want to do + flower essence) and the internet can give you a thorough list. (Examples can be resentment, anger issues, responsibility, courage, feeling loved etc). There are a lot of books on it but flower essence knowledge can be expensive to obtain which I personally find unfair since they can be helpful. A good book if you’d want to invest in it would be the flower essence repertory but google (for now) is free and you can just keep track of flower essence powers in your grimoire and google the ones you need. Find the flower ally that speaks to you the most, order that essence (Bach is the best company) and start today as the first day to take it and note your journey in your book of shadows.
Play fairy-like music I have instruments and music I associate with each sabbat and for Beltane it's harps. They sound graceful like fluttering wings and falling blossom petals. Here are a few soundtracks ( 1 , 2 , 3 , 4 , 5 ), fill your space with ethereal music!
Repot plants It's easy to get caught up in life and forget about your green best friends but I like to remember this day as a day to repot your house plants. They will love you and grow bigger and leafier due to it, it definitely honors the spirit of nature within the home and it's helpful to take time to remember to do this!
Make a butterfly feeder Butterflies have come out and about! Make butterfly feedersso they have get a tasty treat!
Make seed bombs Make bombs of local wild flowers (especially the kinds butterflies and bees need) and throw them around in empty grassy lots!
Do fun fairy inspired activities Such as making enchanted bubbles (add a teeny pinch of mica to make them sparkle but not too much or else they won’t hold and add floral fragrance to them) and blow them in a park, play pranks on people you don’t like such as stealing their shit and hiding it in some obscure place, eat sweets (bonus if it’s floral like rose, jasmine or lavender), read poetry and riddles.
Make delicious floral treats The easiest would be to make teas like rose, lavender, hibiscus or jasmine, you can make rose lattes as well (with a milk wand and hot milk with a dash of rose water) or steamed floral milk (pairs best with plant based milk like coconut, macademia or almond). Make floral buttercream to sandwich between cookies or decorate flowery cupcakes with. Enjoy flowery macarons if you don't have time to bake or add gelatin to floral teas on the eve (bonus if you have flowery cake molds to pour it into) to enjoy today.
Have a picnic under a flowering tree The weather is finally wonderful which makes this day a perfect day to celebrate under a blooming tree in a park. Bring spring picnic foods with you like cucumber sandwiches, radish salads, kale chips. Connect with the blossoming trees and do energy work with them. Charge yourself on a carpet of fallen petals on the ground laced with tree roots. Leave some food as offerings to the spirits of nature as well. Let bees and butterflies drink from your bottle cap.
Venture into the realm of nature and plants Massive disclaimer about psychadelics, if you don't know yourself well or don't trust yourself you should avoid them at all costs, but shrooms is incredible and the most wonderful experience if you use them only for sacred and spiritual practices. It attunes you to the realm of plants and the fae, trees will have messages to give you, you can see the earth breathing, the world is alive and we are all connected to this planet. You will remember people you love and you will feel loved, your ancestors will be surrounding you, you can hear the gossip among the fungi, you can feel the stars and planet's gravitational movements in the heavens. As wonderful as it can be, it can be dangerous though to people unfamiliar with it which leads me to say I'm only making this suggestion to the witches that have experience with it and understand it. Beltane is a day a lot of witches "travel" and often sometimes with the use of more intense tools way more complex and dangerous than mushrooms, but anyway on a day to honor blooming nature and the thriving earth, shrooms is an ideal tool to help you access that realm if you have a day off so you can be in a park under a flowering tree and cry over how beautiful tulips and moss are.
Walk barefoot on the earth If the weather is nice, take a walk in a grassy park or in your yard barefoot. Feel the fertile ground charging your body with energy. Do a grounding ritual and some energy work!
Flower magic Like all plants, flowers are also kind and our allies and are wonderful to do magic with. Learn about the various flowers and what magic they are good in helping you with. Make friends with them, offer them water and sing to them. I made a post a while ago about flowers for love and friendship spells. You don't have to pick the flowers, it's best if they are kept alive or if you grow them. But if you happen to pass a florist or have them already picked, then you can use them in your physical spells as well!
Evening
Feast Cook yourself something lovely to celebrate the pinnacle of spring! A great and simple dish is artichokes since they are a lot to pick apart and eat and are a beautiful savory flower that pairs well with delicious salad dressings and vinaigrettes to dip into. Other wonderful dishes can be beet soup, roasted beet hummus with radish + cucumber and asparagus to dip, white asparagus, literally anything with black truffle on it, chive bread rolls, oyster mushrooms, snails with chive and garlic butter, chopped red cabbage salad, adirondack blue mashed potatoes, truffle risotto, something simple and leafy like a tossed spring salad with radishes and purple lettuce. Endives with chopped boiled eggs and roasted beets nested inside, duck with sugar glaze and fresh edible blossoms. Most countries don't have a midspring feast holiday so many people might not be familiar with midspring food ideas but there are a lot of beautiful and flowery dishes in season this time of year to enjoy alone! Not to mention the desserts! Lemon and lavender pound cake, rose meringues, floral parfaits, rose buttercream cakes, violet and chocolate brownies, lilac sugar dusted cookies, candied rose petals, sakura jellies etc. Bake yourself something wonderful and magical for dessert! Also if you like to drink while celebrating, try creme de violette mixed with anything whether it be rose prosecco, plain soda water or a light wheat beer. There are other wonderful cordials too such as elderflower (St. Germain) that you can mix with a white iced tea (or an elderflower iced tea), and rose and lavender syrups you can mix with soju and sodawater. If you love wines you should try a dandelion or rose wine or steep edible flowers in a light wine over the day to infuse!
Leave offerings to nature Leave a bowl of flower water outside, sprinkle native wild flower seeds, mist the plants or sing to the trees. Let earth know you still love and honor her. Leave any extra food you made to your guides that care about you.
