shipping kanokido is homophobic. for one, both characters fall in line with stereotypes for a gay man/butch lesbian meaning that they are obviously coded as gay. Kano's speech patterns are very effeminate, which is similar to how many gay men speak. Similarly, kido speaks very masculinely, like a butch lesbian. Not to mention how she was extremely willing to let Momo into her bedroom (the chamber of lust). Also, since Momo is a personification for lust towards females (the large breasts and her eye power attracting people's attention). Going back to Kano, he is often associated with bananas, which is phallic imagery. Also, Kano was sent to the heat haze after being stabbed with a knife, which is also phallic imagery. The constant usage of phallic imagery surrounding Kano is enough subtext to prove that he is gay. The parallels between Kano's abusive mother and Kido's abusive father are also similar to how many gay Japanese youth are rejected by their households. Not to mention Kano takes on the guise of Ayano, a woman, to get close to Shintaro, a man. In this warped act of heteronormativity, it establishes Jin's rejection of heteronormative attributes in fiction. (Shintaro and Ayano and Kano breaking the heteronormative approach to grief recovery in media is for another post). Going back to Kido, all of her positive role models are women. Rin is what saves her from her ostracization at her father's house, and Ayano inspires her to become a strong leader figure. Kido's eye power also involves her turning invisible, which is a nod to how lesbians are erased in media. Shipping them despite their obvious gayness is representation Erasure. Honestly, I can't believe this fandom completely glossed over their conversation in novel 6 chapter 9 where kido says "I'm a lesbian" and Kano nods and says "I took two dicks up my ass last night I support you"?," smh. the kagepro fandom needs a lot of work to stop being homophobic and begoneathottaphobic. They are gay.
