i keep seeing this book which is originally written in a language other than english on these english recommendation platforms and purely because i know its original title it’s so heartbreaking to see how it’s translated as it. fails to carry the message that’s so important to the story. or just the beauty of the title in general. and this isn’t an easy jab saying “english is an uncomplex language that will never be as beautiful/poetic/truthful/expressive as [blank]” no it’s me mourning how so many languages are so unique in what they express and how that truly only belongs to that language and Yes there are many occasions where a translation makes complete sense and no inherent beauty is lost but that’s not always the case and it pains me to know i will never be enveloped in the full beauty of it all but hey how’s your tuesday guys

(zonau? not sure if thats like. the worlds coolest plural or a translation difference) given your content with more monstery designs i would have thought they'd be up your alley!! however. i have also not played skyward sword (as much as id like to) and i know most of peoples upset with their existence and the totk storyline is because of its conflicts with that plot? i'm very excited to see what you do with your rewrite/botw2!! given their slight presence in faron in botw, it would be cool to see you repurpose the zonai in some way that doesn't conflict with the plot you're going for, something that makes more sense with the cryptic kinda bare minimum we had in botw? sorry if you've explained your stance on the zonai before <3

i am fine with their design, in fact, i LIKE their character designs, however i dont like everything else about them.

and no its also not bc it affects skyward sword bc it doesnt affect ANYTHING in skyward sword, bc skyward sword is the VERY FIRST zelda game in the timeline and totk is nowhere near it, totk draws several paralels towards skysw bc its meant a sort of soft reset for this new era but its really just thematic overlap and references bc those are cool (i know alot of people are trying to convince the entire fandom that totk somehow is crammed into the old timeline but trust me its never anywhere near confirmed nor does it make any sense, heres the lil graphic i made last month to clarify how i think its meant to be understood .. quite obviously even -

i dont mean to sound .. mean, but some people read too much into little phrases or references to older titles (like first king of hyrule .. doesnt have to mean the literal firstest of the first ones in all of forgotten history ever, just the first of THIS hyrule for example), and while im not against theories i am very annoyed when people try to say its somehow canon when its NOT)

with that out of the way;

i dont like how they are 'integrated' into botws world, they feel unnatural and shoved in everywhere, they have been everywhere and did everythign better and cooler and no part of (this) hyrule was untouched by them their architecture feels not integrated well either and design wise its rather bland, while the sheikah shrines for example while obviously not natural and very 'techy' they still build a harmonizing contrast while the totk shrines are pretty laughably unfitting compared to them the basically complete disappearance of all sheikah tech related stuff bothers me immensely bc why would you just get rid of it istead of developing it further (i know about purahs towers and think they are just like a worse version of the previous ones; and before this argument comes up again, them destryoing it all -somehow- bc they were afraid of it being taken over again is a dumb excuse bc then they should be even more scared of zonau tech- even MORE unknown and advanced tech literally falling from the sky) you could have done SO MUCH with the ancient shiekah tech it drives me nuts

i also think it tipped the delicate balance of the kinda medival setting + high tech that botw had set up compeltely over, the zonau tech just .. is so painfully obviously only the way it is to give you little lego parts to glue together (i know its a focus of the game ... or at least the gamePLAY but it could have been done better, again i think they managed the balance perfectly with shiekah tech, its weird and isnt natural but doesnt endanger the believability of it ... the zonau tech just throws that out the window rly ... how cool would it have been if you could built lil guardian walk thingies djknhfkd )

in general they just feel like a complete replacement for the ancient shiekah and are so SO desperately trying to make the zonau the COOLER and BETTER versions of what the shiekah were (you COULD have connected them in a cool way, like there being ancient shiekah labs build in the old zonau mining facilities bc they used zonau tech as basis for their own tech etc)

like instead of building on the set up and potential botw had prepared, they just scrambled to make a 'better' version of botw, like oh no forget THAT ancient civilization we have an EVEN MORE ancient, and EVEN MORE highly developed peoples there that were also everywhere before you but also were never really hinted at- and then repeat botws structure .__.

having an old and forgotten civilization of whom only some withered ruins remain gave botw a much more real feeling, a world with a history that you will never know (you know, bc that makes it intriguing and is just .. a good choice of worldbuilding imo)- and then totk comes along and reveals everything and also nothing, we know too much of them to be intrigued by their mystery and also not enough to actually care about them (also them beign presented as the good perfectly perfectestest kingdom of light that can do no wrong other than underestimate the eeeevil guy while they also had their hands on every part of the land and made all other races be their face and nameless servants just ... thats weird man!! i know its a game, even if its only aimed at kids my god they arent stupid either!! you really present me with that and expect me to take it at face value what argh)

again i think they COULD have been integrated into it, but the way it was done completely threw me off, im not mad about them EXISTING but about how it was DONE in the game

the way they were done robs not just totk but also botw of mystery and intrigue, for example i much rather had them stay a mystery, only ever talked about in some text and some old and almost completely withered ruins left, you never get so see what happened there in the past, you can only guess, but you have to deal with the fallout anyway and thats just ONE possibility, there are so many and it feels like they chose the most boring one every single time

sometimes knowing less is better than knowing half

Antonio

Horny is his main, but he won’t let you know of his feelings if you’re uncomfortable with it. He’s another cocky gentleman, so he’s going to be taking the reins during sex most of the time, but is a switch at heart. Anything that’ll give him pleasure.

He’s the type of person to be pretty bad at communicating beforehand - if he wants to try to degrade you or something, provided he thinks you’ll take it well, he’ll just straight up do it. If you don’t like it, well, that’s what the safe word is for.

Toni is a very experimental man and isn’t adverse to having public or semi public sex. He doesn’t care for hygiene, either, since he’s dead - piss in his mouth, for all he cares. It’ll be an interesting experience, to say the least.

That doesn’t mean he will do anything, though; if it puts you or himself in serious danger, or hurts you more than he’s willing to, he won’t do it. The boundaries he sets for you are flexible, but there are a few hard rocks he won’t move. Things like petplay and daddy/mommy kinks are a big no, since he doesn’t want to treat you like an object, and he’s from a culture where people only call their family members by those titles.

He’s not against calling or being called a cumslut, whore, etc., though, just not the crawling on all fours kind of objectifying.

Bi’an

A soft dom, but not a service dom. He’ll slowly fuck you while whispering praises, but that doesn’t mean he’s not going to tease you, edge you, restrain you. He’d say the sweetest things while doing the dirtiest shit.

He is more prepared and would explain to you what he wants to do to you and discuss at length before proceeding with it, especially if it’s more dangerous. He’s also quite a patient man - he’ll do anything to make you squirm and beg, even if it takes hours. Not a very vocal person in bed, but you’ll see on his expression if he’s having fun.

Some boundaries he’d set would include not doing anything that would hurt in the long run, including deep cuts, public sex, and anything that may be dangerous, ie having sex with a loaded gun.

He has quite a high libido, higher than Bi’an’s, so you’d be dealing with a whiny, demanding power bottom. Also a general note relevant to the succession criteria of the majority of the empires. Remember this whole thing, where Pix kind of accidentally changed the formal definition of war in the empires? That had a lot of implications for how royalty functioned in the Empires. While they still absolutely have internal duties and responsibilities and privileges, ultimately their most important job is that they stand ready to defend their empire and its people at all times. Part of this is that they also function as international ambassadors in a way, while most empires also have official ambassadors, the relationships and interactions between the emperors themselves are a very important (sometimes volatile) facet of international relations.

An country cannot be recognized internationally as an autonomous nation without an official Emperor/Head of State. The exception to this is the neutral territory of Mangrovia, which is small and rather isolated and basically exists due to several specific treaties granting it the ability to be independent and guaranteeing it immunity from conflict. So far this has not been put to the test.

So, the Grimlands!

The Grimlands is one of the empires that is primarily human. They do have a hybrid population, as well as some (human and hybrid) who have Other Ancestry mixed in there. (Gem has antlers, for example :) ) But they would be considered a Mortal Kingdom.

They do not have a singular royal family, rather they have a noble class from which the emperor is chosen, based off a combined consideration of the council (made up of a representative from each family, yes that gets as politically fraught as you would imagine, and the alchemical and engineering guilds), and a series of (hypothetically) more objective criteria, mostly combat based.

When the Count/Countess of the Grimland's either dies or abdicates, there is a grace period of three months for the council to choose their successor. In cases of abdication, the retiring ruler is allowed to present recommendations and to vote in the final decision. (Several have abdicated specifically so they could choose their successor. In these cases 3 times out of 4 their candidate is the one chosen)

Obviously over the centuries the quality of objectiveness has varied, based on the um, personal integrity of the individuals in power at the time. There have been some highs and lows.

Fwhip was selected at something of a young age, partly based on merit, and partly because relationships with Mythland were somewhat tense at the time of the previous Count's death. And Fwhip was the cousin of the young, newly crowned king of Mythland. (His father married into his mother's house from the royal family of Mythland.) Gem had also just won the title of (youngest ever) High Wizard of the Crystal Cliffs, and her close bond with Fwhip (and Sausage) had basically been Fwhip's family's "dirty little secret" when they were kids.

Technically they are second cousins, but they did actually grow up as friends and were very close, and it was decided that between his prowess with both alchemy and redstone and the close ties this would allow with Mythland (which though distant geographically controlled several resources vital to the Grimland's prosperity) and the Crystal Cliffs (their closest neighbor and a magical powerhouse) it was enough to override that he was not the strongest combatant of the candidates, though he was one of the best.

Fwhip, who had a tendency to get lost in his adventures and redstone experiments of questionable ethical standards, was honestly completely oblivious to being one of the finalists. Between his age and rankings in combat, he did not seriously consider the likelihood he would be chosen until he was pulled out of his lab to go stand before the council and be named Count of the Grimlands.

It was a bit of a stressful time for Fwhip.

He, Sausage, and Gem got even closer during that time, and that was when he and Gem got to know Pearl as well.

i got rudy the cool pvp background for his reaper portrait and INSTANTLY when i did a roulette someone complimented it. immediate payoff. thank u red mage in bardam’s mettle <3

i had the sweetest leveling roulette experience in vanaspati where the healer + other dps were both new and i had only done it once, we all died on the second boss except for the paladin so we were all just cheering her on & emoting at her in the chat from outside the arena EHEDFN <33. and then on the third boss it was just me and her who survived so we did it together and ough :’). she kept casting clemency + cover on me to keep me alive and i made sure to keep her in crest of time returned-range and awwh it was so fun . we won and all cheered about it afterwards ehehe <)!!!!!!!!!! <3333

so many of the songs in this game use motifs from other ones and i’m only just now noticing most of them and i’m losing my mind about it . i swear every time i start humming along to one i go WAAAAIT A SECOND…………. (the tomorrow and tomorrow lyrics are in the background of the crystarium night theme. the sharlayan themes use stuff from flow. WHERE IN TIMEE ALL SHALL AS HOPEE BE REBORNNNN. AAHHHHH)

fuck you fossil fighters frontier and pokemon brilliant diamond. i hate both for differing reasons but what they share the most in common is just how dead they made me feel. they’re not even funny bad. worst thing a piece of media can do is be so soulless it’s painful. also both gutted two great series. ok will give fff credit for being an out of nowhere decline so i can’t be as mad but. pokemon has been on a downward trend for awhile. swsh was bad but it was at least fun and there was some semblance of enjoyment there. the sinnoh remakes could’ve been something but they shat all over a good generation. some of it is likely nostalgia talking but the fact that the only way to get the maximum enjoyment is to have never played any of the gen 4 games and it still isn’t a good product is telling of how bad it is. idc how good legends arceus is bdsp single handedly made me never pick up a newer pokemon game.

fff is also shitting on a good thing but it doesn’t sting quite as much. still awful just not as insulting somehow.

going back to bdsp for this because god i wanted them to be good. i did. i really truly did.

but also ff7r. not rebirth rather remake. that and kh3. both just don’t understand the series and feel tired. i’ve heard good things about rebirth though and may try it but remake? hhhhhhhh

3 stung the most though. i grew up with kingdom hearts. 2 is one of my favorite games ever. i do remember the years upon years of waiting. no it would never match the hype but it felt extra dead. it didn’t understand the series at all and was a really sloppy conclusion to the original storyline. as years have gone on it just feels progressively worse to look back on :”)

♻️: 🤔 I think the only notable one so far was that the initial plan was to have the group hit the mage tower (which is what I'm currently writing, at chapter 15) right after leaving Redcliffe village (chapter 7-8) and then going to Lothering on the way back to Redcliffe (chapter 9). I decided at some point during writing/editing 8 that one chapter of Ariel being miserable was enough and that Eran might kill her otherwise. I sometimes wonder if doing it this way instead would've been better but ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

🧭: The Queen of Swords started out as Biting Down before I decided to make the entire series it belonged to named after tarots. (I still have to rename the series itself, but all the works it belongs to have/will have tarot names.)

Funnily enough most of my wips end up with their temporary document name as their title once they get to publishing and/or a completed state. A notable exception is GIGANOTOSAURUS SCREAMING which ended up being Griffonheart Bonus Chapter lmao

ok. so. It’s very hard to pick an ULTIMATE fave trope buuuuut a very strong contender for the title is time travel fics. More specifically, time LOOP fics. (What can I say, Doctor Who had some significant effects on my preteen brain chemistry.) I love a good time loop fic because it lets you hit a lot of my favourite things all in one: timey wimey nonsense, getting to Fix whatever canon bullshit you need to, having all these little character moments where you can explore different dynamics and do character studies - especially if people other than the looping character start to change/remember things as the loops go on??? MAN. I EAT THAT SHIT UP. Also the potential for calling back to previous events or repeating an event with a subtle twist to it each time, it’s suuuuuuch good shit. I also find stories about the importance of trying - even when it’s difficult, even when you don’t want to anymore, even when it may not actually change anything - really resonate with me. Which is major time loop vibes, yknow? I am a certified Time Loop Enjoyer™.

I know there’s a lot of good time loop fics out there in the ST fandom (especially steddie fandom), which, duh, Steve and Eddie and the events of season 4 are practically BUILT for a time loop. Because of that (and because the fic I really wanna rec for this trope is A Lot and Not For Everyone), I’m going to rec TWO time loop fics for you.

1: echo by CaptainHoney (~30k words, rated E)

Warning - READ THE GODDAMN TAGS. CHECK THE ARCHIVE WARNINGS. I AM NOT KIDDING. This fic starts out going full tilt balls-to-the-walls and it does not stop once. It’s emotionally intense (lots of angst), the events of the fic are intense, it’s a heavier take on time loops than a lot of other fics in this fandom, and you Will feel like you’ve been put through an emotional blender by the end. But there is a happy ending (I’m a sucker for happy endings, I can’t read anything more than ~5k without one), and like I mentioned above this is a story about Trying. Trying even when it’s hard, even when you don’t want to anymore, is such a powerful story theme for me and I really like the way it’s explored in echo. Plus, it’s a love story of course, and a damn fucking good one - both the love between Eddie & Steve, and the love their whole extended found family have for each other.

ALSO. I’m a feral creature for fun narrative choices and echo is told both non-linearly AND from multiple POVs (don’t let that scare you, it’s always really clear who and when we’re dealing with. You’ll see if you read the fic). It’s absolutely fucking delicious. I don’t see this fic talked about much (literally ever, actually) and I think that’s a SHAME. That being said, I do recognise this fic is Very intense and not for everyone, which is perfectly fine! Take care of yourselves, and don’t read something that you’re worried might put you in a bad spot mentally just because I’m hyping it up here. 💙

2: you are young and life is long (and there is time to kill today) by heartofwinterfell (~70k, rated M)

This is a fun one. This is technically a series, with the first fic being ~18k from Eddie’s POV as he goes through the loops, and the second is ~52k from Steve’s POV as he lives in the time loop without knowing it’s a time loop. Yeah. I really love that perspective, you don’t often see a time loop fic from the perspective of the other character, and it’s done really well here. PLUS the second chapter of Steve’s fic goes into time loop aftermath and recovery, which is one of my favourite things to explore that often doesn’t get addressed in great detail.

I wrote his backstory some time ago, it's a little long so I'm sending you to the specific post, and to the post about his violant eyes. I like to play some of the more chaotic or morally grey storyline choices so he turned out as one of those villain-like characters who are fun to hate, he's having a good time being a nuisance to all his acquaintances <3

the first draft* is not completed. i'm not sure it's even half done.

*large parts of it are well out of the first draft territory due to how fucked up the process of book 1 was and i never want to go through it again

i still don't have a title. it'll prob be the last thing to get finalized hhhhhhhh

no i don't know why i didn't title the thing "how 2" either

i have not worked on it actively for several months (i MOVED did you know) but for some reason viv and dana are my nighttime thoughts lately. i should harness this.

i still vaguely hope to have it out later this year.

the 75k here is 15 chapters and none of the interstitials written, since i also write those last to make them Appropriate

there's another 20.8k in deleted/need heavily edited/moved piles elsewhere in the manuscript. all of this wiggling around in a BIG part of why i don't wanna actively work on it >C

now for the actual fun bullet points!

walker is finally present in-story and in isaac's plot

thomas is full rev in his own subplot and characters (he's about to become a single father while trying desperately to woo a not-so-silver fox)

the mark & viv relationship is very painful

the viv/dana is EVEN GAYER. but. dana has nightmares. :c i'm sure this will be fine tho

chris is gonna take two levels in badass in this book and it's not even close to her final form

emil only gets one level in badass. i don't think he gets That Spell in this book. i'm not sure we can handle him having That Spell in too many books.

sam remains the goodest bean even as he peels back the curtain on isaac's motivations and finds himself agreeing with most of them.

isaac begins his villain domestication arc because the universe just wants him to be social. unfortunately, it doesn't go extremely well. the power of friendship can't fix everything!

i don't have a nosebleed count right now but obviously there should be more

do you like hammond and rory pain? you're in luck! they get bumped up a couple levels in plot relevance after their field trip to the dreamlands last book. and it's all pain! gay pain! congrats on unlocking this for them.

we'll finally meet caoimhe in person. not sure about her husband just yet. still minor but i think she and dante are gonna be the minor characters i fall horribly in love with for this project...

we'll also get to meet [REDACTED]! (hint: the book ends in a certain warehouse.) i'm very very excited. they get to be sporadically present until the big reveal at the climax, too!

other characters i'm excited about: a certain invisible stalker, who gets bumped up in appearance order for thomas' subplot. that character is one of the most changed in role and personality and i'm excited for her!

i have too many characters and i will not apologize for this. however, i will not be writing any novels with such a huge cast ever again. someone please save me via buying my books
