i dont hate alain over the kalos league bc tbh i dont really care all that much about it since in hindsight ash has now won the literal world championship, and i think the unova league loss was easily far worse in themes, narrative, and tone while ash vs alain is at least a good spectacle even if (from what i remember and what ive seen thus far) the setup is messy as hell, and its not as funny as tobias so i dont really think about it

but man these episodes really have not endeared me to him

#its not that hes like an AWFUL character i dont think thats true #i just think hes nothing #hes a really boring character that does admittedly have a good premise for a character in both narrative and the side goal of advertisement #but i dont really feel much tension bc i dont buy his bond w any character besides lysandre #why does he have beef with sycamore?? is that even explained or is he just an edgy guy #hes also not really all that endearing w mairin when all he does is snap abt how annoying she is and also that time he abandoned her in anot #another region. which tbh the specials were so boring i only just registered today that he left mairin in hoenn alone #w no way to get back to her home region. steven had to fly her there #i dont buy him being like ‘’oh i must protect her smile’’ when theyve barely had any genuine moments #hes just kinda designed to be cool edgy eyecandy without much substance #and it sucks bc i really wanted the specials to endear me to him #but no. he really is just that boring and contrived #ill have to wait til the team flare arc again bc i know these aspects shine their best in that arc #but man before that he aint doing it for me at all #echoed voice #pokeani lb
