#her tolerance for nonsense is so low in imagination land which shouldn't work but somehow it does

I may be making associations and seeing patterns where there aren't any, but I think my little 3 year old niece has inherited some traits from my mother (her grandmother) which are very funny to see in a small child. And she rarely even sees her in person, so it's just inherent.
Every week my niece goes to the library and checks out a stack of books. We asked her how many on video chat, and she started counting and her older brother joined in which she did NOT like. She told him to stop, and started again, but picked up a book and said, "One." Then paused and stared hard at her brother for a full silent 5 seconds. Finally, "two." And again, the glare, all the way to 11, stopping after every book to make sure.
It was effective and withering and evocative of some childhood memories of my mother. It's very funny and a bit out of place in their gentle parenting household. Her parents definitely do not glare, so she didn't get it from them.
#also she goes all-out for imaginary play#big into dress up and fun colors and painted nails and jewelry and just every accessory you can imagine#tutus butterfly wings cat ears if she can wear it she will and she wants to wear it all at once#but she takes a very serious no-nonsense tone of an beleaguered adult who's the only person at this company holding things together#while dressed like that and pretending to be a unicorn fairy#her tolerance for nonsense is so low in imagination land which shouldn't work but somehow it does#the whimsy comes from somewhere else not my mom for sure but combined with those parts of my mom's personality it's so great
