Machine Memories- Day 7: Projection

Summary:

Heidi has a gift for the Projectionist.

These next few prompts may be on the shorter side, this upcoming week is going to be busy! Please bear with me.

The Projectionist was always drawn to the shadows of the studio. It was an innate feeling, and one that took him to the deepest depths where few dared to venture. Here, he frequently spent his days in a maze of winding hallways and pools of ink. Only the projections thrown up against the wall kept him company, unless he had a sparse visitor or two of course. 

A faint ring diverted his attention from a projected picnic scene. It was the elevator.

Someone was down here.

The Projectionist sloshed through the puddles towards the center room in a mix of tension and curiosity. A Lost One with a bow tie around her neck and a crinkle in her eyes was waiting at the base of the stairs. His limbs slackened at the realization that there was no immediate danger. Heidi was the closest thing he knew to harmless; having wandered down here one day with her daring explorer friend.

She bounced on the balls of her feet and waved him over. "Morning, Shutter! How are you today?" Heidi asked.

The Projectionist whirred in response, mostly in objection towards the nickname. Oh well, it couldn't be helped. She was going to use it one way or another.

"I have a surprise for you!" She continued and reached into the overflowing satchel just barely hanging on by a thread at her hip. She pulled out a compact camera and a shiny film reel. "Audrey took some pictures of the outside world! We just figured out how to transfer it to a reel! Would you like to take a look? I figured you might enjoy it."

The Projectionist's gears clicked. The outside world? He hadn't given much thought to that. All he really knew were the studio's depths. It was the only home he knew.

He stepped forward and tilted his head as a sign of acceptance. Heidi removed the present reel and replaced it with the new one. Instantly, flashes of color were thrown against the wall. Greens and browns of trees mixed with a rich blue. Puffs of white dotted the sky in varying shapes and sizes. Pink tulips and clumps of lavender danced in the wind.

The next slide was of a small orange critter with triangle ears, pink nose, and a tufted tail. He had never seen a creature so peculiar. It reminded him of the Ink Demon in a way, only with slitted eyes and fluffy fur. 

A pebbly shore stood in stark contrast with a foaming sea-green ocean. A bright yellow orb sank below the horizon, painting the sky with vibrant oranges, yellows, pinks, and blues.

What was it like? To see something other than pools of ink and rotting wood?

The Projectionist went through each and every photo, frequently backtracking as he noticed more and more subtle details. 

Heidi silently stood by, still bouncing on her heels as she observed the projections. "Brilliant, aren't they?" She finally asked.

Brilliant. Yes, it was. Suddenly his world got bigger. It was somewhat scary, and bright. But it was also filled with bursts of color... and life. Life outside of the studio, of the shadows.

He hoped one day he'd be able to see it.

It’s been way too long since I’ve posted my writing which I promise I still do y’all so enjoy something I wrote in December when I was hyperfixating on AOT:

Levi sat. What more was there to do these days? He could sit. Or he could sit. Of course there was always the option to sit. Ot he could gasp sit! Needless to say the former scout was tired of sitting. He could stand and struggle to walk but with a toddler, two teens, and a wife who was with child that wouldn’t be the best idea. Falco and Gabi were excitable and got Heidi excited easily as well. He and Anselma agreed to take them in and they knew it meant changing the little life they’d grown accustomed to with just them and Heidi, but it was every bit worth it. She loved being a mother and he loved being a father. Their children were a handful and would continue to be a handful but it would be worth it. They knew what they were getting into when they opted to take Gabi and Falco in. That didn’t matter though; neither did the fact that he’d refused to give her a label for so long. Their story had been a tragic one with a happy ending.

They’d met because of Levi’s late friend who was something of a surrogate younger sister to him. Isabel Magnolia. She and Anselma were both bright and bubbly and they shared being skilled in omni directional mobility gear. They could not have grown up more differently. Isabel was abandoned in a dumpster in the Underground and she was left to fend for herself. She would beg, steal, borrow and barter. Anything it took to stay alive. Her only focus was living to see the next day. She had no family; only Levi and Furlan. She was rambunctious and stubborn to a fault. She never doubted herself and always remained self-assured.

Anselma on the other hand? She was born to the immensely wealthy Hart family in the safety of Wall Sina. She never wanted for anything. She had riches galore promised to her from birth and was expected to marry a rich suitor. Her parents were overly attentive and always showing her off to their slimy friends. The men were all a bunch of snobby pigs and the women criticized her every trait to no end. While her parents were attentive it was not because they cared. They just needed to make themselves look good. When she was 21 everything changed.

Enter: Oliver Klaus Hart.

Also known as her little brother. She’d been a scout for seven years at that point. She was already a member of the Special Operations Squad. Around that time Levi came into her life with Isabel and Furlan. They joined the scouts and after getting to know Anselma personally Levi decided to pursue a relationship with her. Isabel was even throwing them a small wedding and it nearly happened.

Then on an expedition Isabel Magnolia and Furlan Church were lost at the hands of the titans. Anselma and Isabel had been best friends so naturally the latter’s death was distressing for the former. She and Levi were both so grief stricken that they decided it would be best for them if instead of proceeding with the wedding as Isabel planned; they called it off and put their plans of marriage on hold for a while. At least until the deaths weren’t so fresh and didn’t hurt as much as they currently did.

Arguments soon arose between the couple due to Levi becoming more closed off than ever before and Anselma not knowing how to handle and interact with this ‘new’ Levi.

The engagement was broken off. They still slept together, went on very occasional dates, and did other couple-y stuff together but they had no label and most certainly did not live together. Anselma was accustomed to people picking up after her and therefore was not very good at cleaning and such whereas Levi was an absolute clean freak and germaphobe. Naturally this would only cause an even bigger rift in whatever it was that defined the sort of relationship the two scouts had.

Then came Eren. With him came lots of loss and hate to admit as hey may, Levi began to fear losing Anselma. She had been in his life for so long after all. The only remaining living person who had been in his life was Erwin. Erwin Smith. Commander of the Scout Regiment after the resignation of Keith Sadies.

There was also the death of Kenny who would turn out to be Levi’s uncle. Needless to say, finding out he was an Ackerman was a surprise. This made him and Mikasa cousins. Blood relatives. It was a weird but not unwelcome change.

After Eren would come his friends and comrades. They all made Levi Squad and he was beginning to grow fond of the little brats. War would follow and though it wouldn’t be easy everything would work out in the end. Levi became half blind and lost some fingers, Hange lost an eye, Erwin lost an arm, Sasha nearly lost her life, Ymir tried letting herself be eaten by Porco, and Levi injured his legs. That didn’t mean that it wasn’t worth it though. Marley, Eldia, and Paradis were all peaceful. The same went for other nations.

During the war came Heidi. A beacon of hope and light during one of the darkest times in Levi’s life. Sure she was a surprise but when Levi found out Anselma was carrying his child he knew he wanted to do right by her.

And so the two were married and shortly after welcomed their daughter: Heidi Kuchel Zoe Ackerman. Kuchel for Levi’s mother, Zoe for Hange who had helped Anselma fill Isabel’s void. He was now a husband and a father. He had a wife. It was strange to think about.

When Heidi was a year old Oliver, who had long since been nicknamed ‘Ollie’ by Anselma, joined the scouts and so he was put on Levi Squad at the request of the titular leader’s wife.

When she was two she traveled with them to Marley and would meet Eren. He grew to like the little girl. Heidi reminded him of an owl and henceforth she was nicknamed by even Levi ‘owlet’.

The war ended with no casualties on the side of those Levi cared about. He and his wife took in two orphaned kids: Falco Grice and Gabi Braun.

Now here they were. Sitting. Handing out candy to children. Anselma’s stomach swelling with an impending life. A son this time. Their second biological child together but fourth overall. Heidi got along well with her new brother and sister and the family of five was excited to soon be six. It would even everything out and after that their little family would be complete. Heidi would soon turn six and start proper schooling while Levi and Anselma ran their tea shop.

They had retired from the scouts just after the war. Luckily though, the regiment no longer had to rely on hefty donations from Anselma’s estranged father because Historia had given them more funding. Much more funding. Levi reached for his cane.

“Papa!” The raven-haired owlet cried out. Levi smiled and gently scooped up Heidi. Perhaps this was where he was always meant to be. He was at home and at peace with his wife and three, almost four, children. In the end everything had worked out.

“We haven’t picked out a name yet, y’know.” His wife smiled as she looked at her ever-swelling stomach.

“Well then let's get to work on naming him!” Gabi piped up.

“Yeah, I’m sure we could find something if we all put our heads together.” Falco added.

“Name!” Heidi cheered.

Levi was happy. He was at peace and content. He had a wife and children. That was something he would have called you crazy for saying he’d have just ten years ago. Now here he was. Everything finally made sense. This was where he was always meant to be. No one knew what would face the Ackerman-Hart-Grice-Baun family next but whatever happened they’d face it together. As a family. Levi was a husband and father and he was okay with that. It made him happy.

wip for a rc9ng fanfic i tried to do again after dropping it before but have yet to actually work on bc i suck as character interaction 😭

About a week ago, a rumor started floating around that some new student would be joining the school.

Apparently someone heard from someone who heard from someone who heard it from a teacher. Some people are surprised that someone is just joining the school now, given that it’s already practically half way through the first semester of the school year. But who knows, maybe there were some complications for them, like they were sick or something…

Anyways, apparently, today is the day that the aforementioned new kid will be coming. Being the good student I was, I offered to give them a tour and help them around. Totally not to try and get a scoop on them, to see what they’re like to get some views on Gossip Report. Totally.

That was the slight inner monologue of none other than Heidi Weinerman as she stood in the front office, waiting impatiently patiently for the new kid to appear. The front desk lady, who was about in her 50’s or 60’s, didn’t give much detail on them other than the fact they were apparently a girl.

The little revelation built up the anticipation in the ginger, turning her eyes to the door, tapping her foot.

The girl already had some sort of mental image built up in her mind for the new kid despite never having seen her before, given the circulating rumors. For some odd reason, the image Heidi cooked up in her brain was that of some emo kid, with long raven black hair, all fluffed up and edgy; fitting the mystique that came with being one of the majorly talked about topics through the school with falsehood after falsehood being piled on top creating some sort of fictitious character.

As she kept on cooking, the door finally opened and the lady of the hour appeared.

Heidi’s mental image of the girl was quickly shot down.

She was the furthest thing from an emo edgelord, instead she was just rather average. Like any other Joe Blow. Curly brown hair, green eyes that seemed to shift around the front office, and light olive skin. The most striking thing to her was the magenta cardigan that was pretty much falling off her shoulders due to how big it seemed, only staying on their body due to their backpack.

The older lady glanced up from her computer, acknowledging the newcomers' presence. “Ah, Miss Charlott, finally here.” She briefly greeted her, thumbing through the content of her desk for a moment, then holding out some stapled together papers, “Your schedule and locker code.” Charlott took the papers from the older woman with a smile, giving a small thanks before glancing off to the side, towards where the ginger stood.

They had taken notice of her as soon as they stepped foot into the front office, after all there is quite literally no one but the three of them in there at the moment. It’d be pretty hard to miss someone in a mostly empty space.

Before the green eyed girl could say what she was guessing the ginger was doing there, the graying lady spoke, “That’s Heidi Weinerman, she’ll show you around the school and to your class and such.” She explained, before turning her attention away. She really didn’t want to talk to these teens anymore, she wants to just play her solitaire…

The brunette hummed some, her eyes shifting from the older woman to the ginger, giving her a smile, “It’s nice to meet you, Heidi, I’m Charlott-” She paused for a millisecond, should she give her last name to her? Would it be weird?? “-Renatus.” She decided to give her last name.

Heidi slightly raised a brow at their name, never heard of ‘Renatus’ before. Must be foreign.

Heidi: Appeals to the masses, so while I thought she wouldn't be super into the going ons of the internet, she's so obsessed with it I think she'd find herself going into rabbit holes. Definitley would have a drama channel on youtube, but any drama there is for chronically online people; if she brought it up IRL, I think ppl would see something wrong with her <3

Theresa: I think all of Der Monster Klub is chronically online to some degree, Theresa's no exception. At the same time, she'd be good at hiding it, mainly because then she'd have people from her school finding out about her tumblr.

Julian: is in the same area, although, I think he would also be surfing tumblr in public.

Levandar: Terminally online, but that's because he more so ego searches and sees what his fans are posting. In turn, he's probably not only seen the deprave stuff his fans would post about himself, but also the other fandoms their in.

Stevens: I think would just be a shitposter. Don't really have a specific niche in mind for him because I think he could go into really any sector of the internet and

Sorcerer: does not have internet access, but I can see the potential, you know? Would send anon hate like it's a living, because when you're trapped under a high school for hundreds of years it probably is. Unrealistic, but I think he would get into weird niche tik tok drama just for the fun of it.

Daves: like,, a normal amount, but that's because he doesn't really interact much? Outside of the Der Monster Klub, I imagine he would just lurk. That being said, he is definitely privy to the weirdest internet rabbit holes

Ignoring how busy he is with being a ninja, Randy would probs be online a regular amount. Definitely posts random youtube videos, but he's like,, trying to be youtuber so uploads are sporadic. Also, this boy does touch grass. He seems to want to be active in the social life of high school and that means hanging out in person rather than blogging on tumblr lol

Howard: Same level as Randy, but I can also see this guy trying his hand at streaming. Sporadically does it with no set schedule and it's only ever Randy and a few other people in chat, but like. It's fun. they're teenagers.

Bash: Normal amount? I don't think I have a lot to say on him, really. posts like,, pictures of all the stuff he owns to flex, but that's what any rich teenager would do. Would say something dumb online, but it never really blows out of proportion.

Brent: I think he'd really only post his work. Would occasionally vent too. Blew up at some random person who left a hate comment, making it his sworn duty of the day to make them just as miserable.

Debbie: I think she's not super social and really would keep up with her friends and like, the school accounts. That being said, I can see her running the social media for the news club too, that's where her passion lies afterall. Thinks about making a news/commentary youtube channel, but just doesn't have the time

Marci: I was initially going to put her down as a Facebook mom, and while she does have one, I also see her almost being like one of those Instagram influencer moms too. She does have the status already, so I think it would just come naturally to her. Thankfully, because she's already rich, she wouldn't try shilling you an MLM. Def follows her son on social media, but doesn't comment because Bash said it's embarrassing.

Flute Girl: Tumblr user, but not in trenches, you know? Runs several aesthetic blogs for each of her interests, but actually is sane enough to just block and move on. Could also see her writing fanfic, but most of it doesn't get posted because she might be a bit self conscious

P: I think bros neat design wise, so while I don't have many thoughts on him, I wanted to include him lol

Plop Plop: if this guy had social media, I think he'd be into the DIY stuff, for some reason? Never really posting his own tutorials, but always there to comment and help others out on forums

Rachel: Normal amount. Pinterest board game goes CRAZY. One of those cute aesthetic tumblrs, but genuinely a nice person. Avoids drama at all costs

Doug: Get the vibe his parents would restrict internet access. That being said, could also see him on Reddit, so..?

McFist: I don't think he would use social but instead pay someone to post McFist posts both for himself and his businesses. Does not understand it and is a very busy man.

Slimovitz: Just has a Facebook. Reposts minion memes and cat photos. He used to post about his car, but then a student found it and turned it into a meme showing the before and after of it's destruction one day. He put a ban on phones for a bit. They never found the culprit.

Bucky: Also probably had restricted internet for a while. Interested in getting a social media, but they say he has to be above 16. I imagine he'd actually want to post band videos, though, so that'd be nice

Jacques: He does have parkour videos, but I don't think he actually likes talking online. Touches grass.

Sorceress: I think she'd be on social media like any "teen" would, but I don't think she'd get it. Posts selfies, but also doesn't really post them enough

Viceroy: I just imagine this guy goes on engineering or science related forums and solves problems, but he'd like,, also be the dude that would message the answer directly to the initial poster so when you find the forum 10 years later for your very specific problem, the answer isn't there. Could also be on tumblr to and while he says he's above it, would start shit online (or at the very least keep tabs on it to watch from afar).

Juggo: I can't see him on social media, but like,, frequent poster in clown related forums and accounts? Would answer weird clown trivia questions and is a respectable member in the historical clown community.

McAffee: Business has a Facebook that hasn't been updated for several years because he keeps forgetting about it. Also would occasionally post on youtube, but I feel he really shines nestled deep within the comments of a random youtube video he got mad at. The comment was about how the Star Wars prequels suck and by the 100th comment, it's moved onto furry discourse.

Morgan: I think she lurks more than anything. Her account has nothing and if you ever see her, it's one of the other members of dancing fish posting and her showing up in the video (I also think I just make Morgan more mysterious than she actually is lol)

Ranginald Bagel: Goofy guy with next to no internet access. If he did, he would sadly

S. Ward Smith: I can't even see this man on any like specfic welding forums online.

Finja: I think even if we gave him internet access, he'd actively avoid it. He's got other shit to do. Doesn't understand the youth's slanguage. Like that one post where that person shows Fortnite to an Ancient Roman that I can't find for the life of me, someone PLEASE GIVE IT TO ME BEGGING

Just wanna say "Steve as a beautiful sultry siren and Eddie as a gross little trash rat" is the actual correct take.

Steve doesn't wear the tiniest shorts and have a 12 step hair care routine for no reason. Plus, the man is ran thru. (sources: Amy, Becky, Laurie, Nancy, Brenda, Heidi, and Lisa.) A slut for the people, by the people.

And Eddie asked for beer and cigarettes but not a change of clothing when on the lam for like a week. Gross trash rat behavior. It's canonical (not that fanfic needs to be).

YES YES YES I AM SCREAMING FROM THE ROOFTOPS. This is exactly how I write them and always will!!! Steve is an object of desire for men and women, and literally looks like he was moulded by the gods and placed on earth to bless mere mortals with his beauty, while Eddie looks like he fell out of a dumpster, has never used a hair brush or hair conditioner in his life, and probably smells like weed and cheap body wash. Like this is their dynamic and I'm sticking by it!!! Steve loves beautiful women and men who can destroy him and one gross swagless rat by the name of Eddie Munson.

It has been said that Demetri and Heidi have dated… umm I don’t know if this is the case for your writing. If it is does that mean Elizabeth and Gustov are brother and sister? And what type of cats are they.

Ps I’m a cat lover myself and I adore these little cuties. I just can’t tell what type of cats they are and I’m not sure if I’ve ever seen Gustov before.

I do believe the 'Demetri and Heidi have dated' thing comes from an interview Charlie Bewley made. He was asked what Demetri had been up to since New Moon and I think he said something along the lines of 'dating Heidi'. And after that the fandom has implemented the idea in many fanfics and headcanons. In my writing that is not the case, they are simply great friends and Heidi is one of the few people who will call Demetri out on his less than favourable qualities.

So dear Elizabeth and Gustav are simple frenemies in my writing, with Lizzie being the resident diva and Gustav being the social butterfly everyone adores. In terms what sort of cats they are; I do believe Elizabeth is some type of British Short Hair while Gustav is a British Long Hair.
