Kanpur’s Naveen Print and Pack installs Bobst Novafold folder gluer
Tumblr media
Naveen Print and Pack, a prominent carton and corrugated packaging company in Kanpur, has witnessed remarkable growth since its inception. Founded in 1980 by Yogesh Dixit, the company initially started as a small commercial printing unit.
Over the years, it has transformed into a major player in the packaging sector, thanks to its advanced technology and commitment to quality. The company recently commissioned a new Bobst Novacut folder gluer with a 4/6 corner attachment to spur its converting section.
The company’s journey toward packaging began in the early 1990s when it purchased its first offset printing machine in 1993. This investment marked the start of Naveen Print and Pack’s venture into the packaging business. By 2004, Prashant Dixit, the next generation of leadership, took over and the company started modernizing its operations. Under his leadership, the company made significant upgrades, such as acquiring Heidelberg presses, which enhanced its production capabilities.
In 2014, Naveen Print and Pack expanded its offerings by entering the corrugated packaging market, creating a sister concern, Pack Safe, which focuses on outer packaging. This expansion helped the company diversify its products and strengthened its position.
Looking for more space and an improved manufacturing setup, Naveen Print and Pack found a new location along the Kanpur-Lucknow highway in 2016. The company’s new plant, spanning 5,000 square meters (about 59,000 square feet), allowed it to expand its operations significantly. By 2017-18, the company completed the first phase of construction and shifted its operations to the new facility.
In 2021, the company made a major investment in a six-color Heidelberg UV press. This new equipment played a key role in enhancing the company’s ability to meet growing demand while maintaining the highest standards of packaging quality.
Bobst folder gluer- an enabler in efficiency
One of the most transformative investments for Naveen Print and Pack has been the acquisition of the Bobst Novafold folder gluer. This machine has drastically improved production efficiency. Before the installation of the Bobst machine, the company used a semi-automatic machine that produced 5,000-7,000 cartons per hour. Now, with the Bobst Novafold folder gluer, production has surged to 12,000-15,000 cartons per hour.
The machine’s ability to deliver consistent, high-quality output has significantly reduced bottlenecks and improved production timelines. “The Bobst Novafold folder gluer has been a game-changer,” says Prashant Dixit. “It has not only increased our productivity but ensured we can meet the most demanding client specifications. We first purchased a pre-owned Bobst die cutter in 2009. It is still performing great. So, we were well aware of Bobst performance.”
Dixit further emphasises the importance of investing in top-tier machinery. "In this industry, you cannot compete without the right equipment," he explains. "The key to staying ahead is constant investment in technology."
In addition to a well-equipped converting department, the press section of the company has multiple Heidelberg presses of various configurations.
Serving a diverse range of industries
Naveen Print and Pack serves a broad spectrum of industries, including agarbatti manufacturers, pharmaceuticals, chemicals, and hosiery. The company’s ability to cater to various sectors reflects its flexibility and commitment to meeting diverse client needs. Though Kanpur has not seen the same pace of industrial growth as other regions, Dixit remains optimistic about the future, citing improvements in infrastructure and law and order that will foster growth in Uttar Pradesh’s packaging sector.
Looking ahead- expansion plans for 2025
Naveen Print and Pack is far from done with its growth plans. The company is currently expanding its manufacturing capacity with the construction of an additional 10,000 square feet of space. Dixit is confident that the infrastructure improvements in the region, coupled with a more business-friendly environment, will lead to increased demand for packaging products. "As more industries, especially in the pharmaceutical and FMCG sectors, set up manufacturing plants, there will be a corresponding demand for packaging," he says.

VK Global commissions greenfield Faridabad plant
Tumblr media
In 2018, the leading Faridabad-based textbook publisher VK Global Publications got into printing by acquiring a plant in Manesar comprising book and packaging printing, binding, and converting equipment, along with luxury hard box-making capacity. In the past several years, the group rationalized the VK Global Digital Manesar plant with investments in converting and learned the commercial and carton-making processes. It then decided to build a greenfield plant in Faridabad, not very far from the publishing house. Within 22 months, the elegant purpose-built factory, along with several additional investments in equipment is humming.
The VK Global Digital book printing and packaging project was ambitious from the blueprint stage. The planning embodied the group’s belief in designing modern work and production spaces. The now completed 250,000-square-foot load-bearing factory space has a 1-megawatt solar plant on the roof. Within the plant, on most of the 2 acres alongside the building, is a hydroponic greenhouse where the first horticultural crop of lettuce and Kael is just maturing.
Apart from the double height 100,000 square foot production space and meeting rooms on the ground floor, the 50,000 square-foot mezzanine contains prepress and open plan management spaces. Another 100,000-square-foot load-bearing floor is not yet populated.
The main production floor allocates spaces for commercial and book printing and carton offset presses. The folding and binding sections complete the postpress for book production, while the finishing and converting sections with diecutting, hot foil stamping, and folder gluers complete the cartons. There is a third production process with dedicated equipment for producing two-piece luxury boxes for electronic, personal care, and confectionery products.
The move from Manesar to the new plant nearing completion began with installing a new Heidelberg packaging press in February– March 2024. An 8-color Heidelberg perfector was added for book printing. By August 2024, all the equipment from Manesar was moved, installed, and recommissioned. Although not without challenges, the entire closely managed process meant the transition to full production was practically seamless – with few or no hitches in customer deliveries.
In the double-height pressroom, there are ten Heidelberg presses including two 6-color coater UV presses and two 8-color perfectors. Apart from improvement in workflow and material movement in the continuous space, extensive new equipment has been added for debottlenecking and increasing production output.
For book production, apart from the addition of the 8-color perfector, these include the upgradation of the four Stahl folders, and a new MullerMartini section sewing machine supplementing the two earlier Aster machines. A used Muller Martini Accoro 5000 gathering and perfect binding line complements the earlier binding lines.
Premium visual effects and authentication
All the products produced by VK Global – books, monocartons, or luxury boxes tend to be in the premium category not only because of its select customers and the quality of design, paper, and printing but because of the company’s rich experience in security and embellishment using its holographic technology and expertise. For this, the company uses its own manufactured transfer films which can transfer metallics with holographic diffraction and optically active surface patterns, and Fresnel lens films for application on paper, PET, and BOPP.
Hence, the company is a global pioneer and exporter in creating completely recyclable book covers, cartons, or blister packs integrated with Fresnel lenses and other holography patterns. VK Global’s transfer films have been validated under EU EN 13430 certification which classifies the products as bio-degradable. In the case of textbook cover production, these effects can authenticate books that are legally produced under publishing rights at a nominal cost – easily differentiating them from illegal and pirate editions.
VK Global’s biggest book production customer is still its parent publishing company. However, it has produced excellent quality text, general, coffee table, and children’s books for global publishers. It is also one of the selected printers for the recent government project to triple the production of NCERT textbooks for the 2025-26 academic year, to 150 million.
Technology absorption, process, OEE, and human resource optimization
The most significant aspect of the new Faridabad plant, apparent in its architecture and design, is the keen desire of the management to optimize the production workflow and processes and invest in the skill development of the company’s human resources. Director Namit Jain who manages the plant has acquired a considerable understanding of printing, binding, and converting processes and the technology dynamics in just five years. He sees the benefits of having an expert printer from Heidelberg training his team for a sustained three-week program, which he says may sound expensive but is trivial in comparison to the cost of the presses and their complexity and capacity for quality with efficiency.
Educated in computer science, Jain apart from his exploration of the production processes, is one of the few young printers or print businessmen who have taken an interest in the digitally enabled concepts necessary to drive efficiency in printing and packaging businesses today. For instance, he has understood many of the Heidelberg Prinect prepress, workflow, and production monitoring features that are talked about but rarely implemented. This is usually because of the large gap between the educated management and inadequately skilled personnel on the shop floor.
To improve efficiency, Jain has implemented the processes and calculation of overall equipment effectiveness (OEE) using Prinect’s spectrum of digital tools. He uses Prinect’s imaging engine in prepress, its scheduling features for production, and its ability to produce pallet tags for production tracking and operational material movement. The modern building, its well-lit and decorated environment, and what is happening inside reflect the same perspective. I find this attitude of breaking down the business challenges and the production processes the most exciting thing about the new plant – the aspiration to excellence without compromise.

Mastering Digital Printing Color Matching in 10 Minutes – It's That Simple!
In the WorldSkills competition for the Printing and Media Technology category, the "Digital Printing Color Matching" contest has emerged as one of the challenging aspects affecting the scores of participants in recent years. As a guiding teacher for the Printing and Media Technology project, I have devised an effective method to address the current challenges by analyzing and summarizing the scoring trends in the digital printing module.
Current State of Digital Printing Color Matching
In recent years, it has been observed that many participants in the Printing and Media Technology project focus predominantly on traditional offset printing modules, neglecting the digital printing module. This has led to a significant loss of points in this module, evidenced by the following issues:
1. Incomplete Color Matching Tasks: Participants struggle to complete the assigned color matching tasks within the specified time using the Heidelberg Versafire EV digital printing machine.
2. Irregular Operation of Digital Printing Equipment: Participants often fail to adhere to the strict standards and requirements of the WorldSkills competition due to improper operation of digital printing equipment during the contest.
3. Color Deviation Beyond Standards: A considerable number of participants exhibit color deviations beyond the specified standards, affecting their overall scores.
Analysis of Low Scores in Digital Printing Color Matching
The analysis reveals several factors contributing to low scores in digital printing color matching:
1. Insufficient Training Intensity: Participants often lack proficiency in operating digital printing equipment, leading to delays in tasks. Insufficient familiarity with equipment functions and the need for repeated confirmations of steps affect the quality of task completion under competitive pressure.
2. Noncompliant Operation of Digital Printing Equipment: Participants focus on the process but overlook the standards and quality of each step. Non-standard operations, such as insufficient test page prints and failure to calibrate EyeOne before measuring color deviation, negatively impact color accuracy.
3. Nonstandard Color Matching Procedures: Failure to follow the standard operating procedures of the Heidelberg Versafire EV digital printing machine contributes to deviations in color matching accuracy.
Steps for Digital Printing Color Matching
To address these challenges, the following steps outline a comprehensive and standardized approach to digital printing color matching:
1. Load Correct Paper:
Use copperplate paper for calibration.
Ensure paper size and surface quality meet specifications.
Tumblr media
2. Set Paper Parameters:
Input paper dimensions, thickness, and type into the equipment, emphasizing correct selection of copperplate paper.
3. Create Calibration and Print Test Pages:
Create a calibration specifying a screen ruling of 175 lines.
Print at least three test pages, using the manual measurement function.
4. EyeOne Scan Calibration Test Page:
Calibrate EyeOne before scanning the test page.
Place a white sheet under the test page during scanning.
Tumblr media
5.Compare Scan Values with Standards:
Verify scan density on the device, ensuring it is within a 5% margin of error from the standard.
Tumblr media
6. Create ICC Profile:
Develop an ICC profile and print standard color charts (at least three copies).
Disable all color management and conversion options in the digital printing equipment.
7. Scan Standard Color Chart with ISIS:
Scan the second-to-last sheet of the color chart using ISIS.
Ensure the chart is placed parallel and smooth along the paper edges.
Click to learn more about book printing, sticker printing, medicine box, hardcover book printing, PE bag, Religious book printing, shopping bag printing, catalog printing, and printing in China.
Tumblr media
8. Check Scan Errors with Color Toolbox:
Use Color Toolbox to check scan errors.
Reprint and rescan if errors exceed the specified threshold.
9. Import and Apply ICC Profile:
Import the ICC profile into the digital printing equipment.
Re-select the device's built-in color conversion tool.
10. Automated Color Matching:
After EyeOne calibration, input the target color for automatic color matching.
Print a test page and measure the color accuracy.
This method, developed through extensive student training and consultation with industry experts, has proven effective in achieving satisfactory results. While the approach may have its limitations, feedback and suggestions from peers in the industry are welcomed to further enhance its efficacy.

Keep Your Heidelberg GTO 52 Printing Smoothly: The Essential Guide to the 42.011.027 Gripper Part
For print professionals running a Heidelberg GTO 52 offset press, maintaining peak performance requires keeping every component in top shape. One crucial element often overlooked is the 42.011.027 gripper part. This seemingly small piece plays a vital role in ensuring accurate and consistent paper feeding, directly impacting print quality and production efficiency.
What is the 42.011.027 Gripper Part?
The 42.011.027 gripper part is a critical component of the swing gripper assembly in your Heidelberg GTO 52 press. It acts as a finger, firmly holding the paper during the printing process and releasing it precisely during transfer. This ensures precise registration and prevents misprints caused by paper slippage.
Why is the 42.011.027 Gripper Part Important?
Print Quality: Worn or damaged gripper parts can lead to uneven paper feeding, resulting in registration issues, blurring, and ghosting. Replacing the 42.011.027 gripper part ensures optimal grip and paper handling for consistently high-quality prints.
Production Efficiency: Misprints and jams caused by faulty grippers slow down production and increase waste. Regular maintenance and replacement of worn parts like the 42.011.027 gripper ensure smooth operation and minimize downtime.
Machine Longevity: Neglected grippers put undue stress on other press components, leading to premature wear and tear. Timely replacement of the 42.011.027 gripper part contributes to the overall longevity and health of your Heidelberg GTO 52 press.
Signs Your 42.011.027 Gripper Part Needs Replacement:
Uneven print quality: Noticeable registration issues, blurring, or ghosting on printed sheets.
Misprints and jams: Increased occurrence of paper misfeeds and jams during printing.
Visible wear and tear: Cracks, chips, or deformations on the gripper finger itself.
Choosing the Right Replacement:
When replacing the 42.011.027 gripper part, ensure you get a high-quality, compatible replacement from a reputable supplier like Royomachinery.com. Cheap, imitation parts may not fit properly or perform as well, potentially causing further issues.
Additional Tips for Gripper Maintenance:
Regularly inspect the gripper finger for wear and tear.
Clean the gripper assembly periodically to remove dust and debris.
Follow the manufacturer's recommendations for lubrication and maintenance intervals.
By understanding the importance of the 42.011.027 gripper part and taking proactive steps for its maintenance and replacement, you can ensure your Heidelberg GTO 52 press continues to deliver exceptional printing results for years to come.

Experience | Who Blocked the Oil Circuit of the Five-Color Offset Press?
If lubricating oil is the blood of the machine, then the oil pump is the heart of the machine. Once the heart encounters a problem, it will inevitably lead to a series of serious consequences.
Our company once encountered a strange incident: the oil pump of a five-color offset press suddenly stopped supplying oil, even with the replacement of a new oil pump. After more than ten days of intense efforts, the fault was finally successfully resolved. Here, I would like to share the maintenance experience of this fault with everyone.
Tumblr media
Symptoms of the Fault
One afternoon, our company's Heidelberg five-color offset press suddenly experienced a 'cardiac arrest' phenomenon (the oil pump could not supply oil).
Based on our experience in oil circuit maintenance, we immediately carried out emergency disassembly, repeatedly cleaned various filtration systems, and then reinstalled and debugged. However, the problem persisted.
So, we suspected whether the oil pump's output was insufficient due to excessive wear?
To quickly eliminate the fault, the equipment department decided to purchase a new oil pump to address the urgent production needs. However, as there was no stock domestically, and imported oil pumps required a week to arrive, the production department decided to take advantage of the waiting time to perform the annual overhaul of the machine.
During this period, we thoroughly checked the old oil pump and found it to be in good condition, so we continued to install and use it. After three days of trial operation, everything seemed normal.
But one night half a month later, the oil pump suddenly stopped working again, and the computer displayed a message indicating low circulation lubricating oil flow. If the operation continued, the control system would automatically lock the main motor.
And once the main motor was locked, the consequences would certainly be more serious!
Replacing the New Oil Pump
The next day, we visited the site again, suspecting that the old oil pump might be damaged and unable to work for a long time.
By now, the new oil pump had arrived, so we immediately got to work, dismantling the casing and drilling into the machine. Finally, we replaced the old oil pump with the new one.
Surprisingly, after starting the new oil pump, it still did not supply oil. Upon careful observation, we found that an unloading hole beside the partition valve on the inner wall of the wallboard was constantly spraying oil. This indicated that the oil pump was working normally, but the oil pumped out could not enter the oil pipe.
Clearly, the key issue now was that the oil circuit was blocked.
Thorough Investigation
To quickly solve the problem, we sought advice from some experienced engineers, but unfortunately, there were no ready answers. With no other options, we had to rely on ourselves. Learning the basics of the offset printing workshop, one can also rely on oneself. Click here to learn.
We pondered and suspected whether the two solenoid valves on the partition valve were faulty?
The next day, when we returned to the site and carefully dismantled the valve core, we found that the internal structural parts were undamaged; when we connected a 24V power supply, it still worked flexibly as usual. This indicated that the solenoid valve was good.
We then speculated, could it be that the oil pipe was connected in reverse? Impossible! Were the upper and lower positions of the solenoid valve reversed? Impossible!
Were the solenoid valve wires connected in reverse? Even more unlikely!
With each suspicion, verification, and denial, and then suspicion, verification, and denial again, the hope kindled within us was extinguished time and again. Everyone almost lost their direction.
In this situation, everyone involved in the repair was severely hit, but no one gave up. We decided to try again.
After lunch, we once again crawled into the machine, installed the solenoid valve, and carefully connected the wires.
To verify the function of the solenoid valve, we decided to cut off the power supply to the solenoid valve. Surprisingly, the oil circuit was unblocked, but as soon as power was applied, the oil circuit was completely blocked.
Analysis of the Cause
It turned out that the two solenoid valves of this five-color offset press had different functions. One of them was responsible for switching the oil pressure between 1 bar and 12 bar, and the other was responsible for switching to lubricate the side bearings and paper feeding chain when the oil pressure switched to 12 bar.
According to the computer settings of the five-color offset press, when the machine runs at 15,000 revolutions per hour, the oil circuit needs to perform action switching through the solenoid valve to transmit 12-bar pressure lubricating oil to the side drum bearings, shaft sleeves, and paper feeding chain for timed lubrication. After lubrication, the solenoid valve core operates to switch back to the main circulation.
However, in some cases, the relay, due to frequent power on and off over the years, causes the contacts to generate sparks like arc welding, sticking together.
Click to learn more about book printing, sticker printing, medicine box, hardcover book printing, PE bag, Religious book printing, shopping bag printing, catalog printing, and printing in China.
When the oil circuit switching is completed and the relay is required to power off, it cannot be disconnected. The solenoid valve controlled by it continues to be powered on, erroneously blocking the main machine oil circuit circulation.
At this point, we suddenly understood why the solenoid valve was so hot when we first removed it—it was because the relay contacts were sticking, causing it to work incorrectly in a continuous powered-on state.
Conclusion
The troubleshooting of this fault has given me a deep understanding: difficulties are like springs; if you are weak, they are strong. As long as we think of more ways and persist a little longer, we can overcome them!
