actually analyzing the first flashback hazel shares with leo, where she's getting bullied and sammy swoops in and rescues her. there's something interesting about how leo is literally watching this play out like a movie and then sammy in flashback tries to defuse the situation she's in by literally scripting it out in front of everyone and reenacting the situation but this time he steals from hazel instead of the bully. and obviously this is done on hazel's behalf, but everything that she actually says gets ignored and nothing she does changes the outcome of the scene. she's in these two opposing narratives and is essentially an object in each for all the difference she makes - and she's still getting robbed! leo as he's watching can't pinpoint the reason that she's crying. idk rick uses the trope a lot where characters trick/script their way out of situations so i'm not sure if this is worth analyzing; except hazel isn't playing along at ALL, she's trying to prevent something worse from happening but it doesn't matter. she can't stop either of them.

JULIE DOING “STUFF” WITH FAMOUS PEOPLE (11th post)
Julie is being fitted above for a handmade shirt with Italian tailor, Guglielmo Battistoni.
Julie grabs a bite or at least a drink with costume designer Orry-Kelly and Bette Davis (in costume for Now, Voyager) in 1942. The Australian-born Orry-Kelly won three Academy Awards for Best Costume Design.
Julie seems more engaged with Jennifer Jones than the person on the other end of the phone line. The costars are pictured behind the scenes during the making of WE WERE STRANGERS.
Julie keeping up on the beach with Lana Turner behind the scenes of THE POSTMAN ALWAYS RINGS TWICE.
Lana Turner is absorbing Tay Garnett’s direction for a scene while Julie seems to be saying, “Put me in, Coach!”
Gregory Peck and Bette Davis considering whatever Julie is telling them.
A candid shot of the Canteen co-founders above.
Director Victor Fleming talks up a scene for TORTILLA FLAT with Julie and Hedy Lamarr.
Director John Berry does the same in the water for this scene with Julie and Shelly Winters in HE RAN ALL THE WAY.
Prior to a radio broadcast of Pride of the Marines in January 1946, Julie listens intently to presenter William Keighley, with Dane Clark and Eleanor Parker. The three actors all appeared in the film version.
