Redemption for North End
A goal in first half stoppage time saw redemption for North End and the bragging rights over the Summer for the team at the East end of the M55. Cameron Archer was the man who put right the wrongs of Bloomfield Road back in October with an excellent finish past Chris Maxwell with almost forty eight minutes on the clock of a fifty seven minute first half. An injury to Daniel Grimshaw in the Blackpool goal saw an eleven minute extension to the first period and North End made it count with the on loan Villa player slotting home. It was a really tense affair in front of a big crowd at Deepdale and although the visitors had their moments in the game it was Ryan Lowe`s boys who kept their nerve and saw the game out to collect a very valuable three points against the old enemy and send North End into the next two games, which are both at Deepdale, with their confidence high.
Ryan Lowe made three changes to the side that lost at Derby on Saturday with Brad Potts, Greg Cunningham and Sepp Van Den Berg coming in for Liam Lindsay, Joe Rafferty and Ched Evans. It was a blistering start to the derby as you might expect with both sides really up for giving their all in front of the baying fans. The first quarter of the game saw half chances at both ends but an injury to Grimshaw challenging for a ball saw a long stoppage with ex North End keeper Chris Maxwell taking Grimshaw`s place. Andrew Hughes had the best chance with a header against the Blackpool bar as North End moved into a clear ascendancy later on in the first half. North End hit the post again with a deflected Potts cross but with almost three minutes added the home side took the lead. Riis found Archer with a lovely through ball and the youngster made no mistake slotting home to give North End the lead and sending the home support into raptures.
No changes for North End at the break but you could really cut the atmosphere with a knife as both sides came out in the second half intent on taking the game to the opposition. To be honest the game became somewhat dogged in the middle of the park but it was North End who made the clearest opening with Ben Whiteman curling a shot just wide as North End once again got on top in the game. Blackpool were doing their utmost to get back into proceedings with Bowler the main threat down the right but North End were defending well and the goal lead was helping the boys in White keep a cool head. Whiteman had another chance and a huge appeal for a penalty was waived away by referee Mr Webb in what looked like a clear hand ball by a Blackpool defender. The last real chance of the game came from the visitors with a free kick but the effort went over the bar and it was Preston who celebrated victory to put right the wrongs from last October at the Seaside.
So North End square up the bragging rights with a well earned victory against a Blackpool side who look like they have earned their right to be in the Championship. To be honest I thought North End were a little too defensive on the night and could have taken the game to the visitors a little more but having lost the first derby of the season I suppose it is understandable why North End sat on their lead a little towards the end of the game. Six games to go and four of those games at Deepdale means that we should have a decent chance of getting well into the sixties in terms of points for the season. I really hope that North End go out and express themselves in the final six games because I think we have been a little too cautious recently and it has contributed to our downfall. QPR next up on Saturday followed by Millwall on Good Friday sees a good chance for us to finish the season on a positive curve ahead of what is going to be a massive Summer at Deepdale.

Wilson strike seals Newcastle's first PL win of season
Callum Wilson's first-half strike handed Newcastle their first Premier League win of the season, beating relegation rivals Burnley 1-0 in a crucial game.
Eddie Howe's side faced a second relegation match-up in as many matches and were keen not to let their lead slip as they did late on against Norwich on Tuesday.
Newcastle went ahead in a disjointed first half, looking very much the basement battle as advertised. Nick Pope spilled Joe Willock's cross, with Wilson the first to it. He thundered the ball home into an open net (40).
How the teams lined up | Match statsPremier League results | Table
The Magpies only improved as the second half continued, but there was a heart-in-mouth moment as Burnley striker Jay Rodriguez had the ball in the net late on. However, the offside flag was correctly raised.
There were jubilant scenes at full-time, with a roar from the usually calm and collected Howe in the dugout. Newcastle did a lap of the stadium after the final whistle, applauding the home fans.
Newcastle's first three points of the campaign lift them off the bottom of the table on goal difference. However, all three teams in the drop zone - including Burnley in 18th - all have ten points as the relegation battle heats up heading into Christmas.
How Newcastle secured their first Premier League win
Burnley had a few early sights of goal. Maxwell Cornet sent an effort wide from range, before Johan Berg Gudmundsson rattled the crossbar. After some neat build-up play from Burnley, Josh Brownhill slotted his team-mate in down the right, but Gudmundsson's shot could only find the side of the post.
Cornet went close again in the 21st minute. Charlie Taylor did well to recycle the ball after his initial cross was seen away. He found Ashley Westwood, who in turn played the ball to Dwight McNeill. He then curled in a wonderful cross, with Cornet glancing a header goalwards, but it was saved by a leaping Martin Dubravka.
Newcastle's first sight of goal came shortly after. Allan Saint-Maximin played a delightful chip into the middle, finding Wilson. While he did manage to get some kind of shot onto the ball, Taylor was there behind to stick out a foot and block the effort from close range.
The hosts made the much-needed breakthrough late in the first half. Pope spilled a cross from Willock on the left, bundling into Fabian Schar as the ball slipped from his hands. Wilson was the quickest to it, finding his space before firing home into an open net.
Early in the second half, Newcastle went close again. Wilson slotted the ball through marvellously for Miguel Almiron, who drove into the area. He struck on a tight angle, with the ball firing just wide and taking a graze off Pope's fingertips on the way through.
Newcastle continued to build the pressure as the half went on, racking up a succession of corners - eventually delivering 10 to Burnley's three - although were met unable to find their way past Burnley's defence. Their best chance came as Shelvey curled a sweet strike goalwards, but Pope made another leaping save to see it away.
There was almost a moment of déjà vu for Newcastle as Burnley had the ball in the net late on. After some neat build-up play, Westwood whipped in a cross that was turned home by Rodriguez. However, the striker was half a yard offside and the flag was raised.
Burnley pushed for the equaliser as the game entered four minutes of injury time, but half chances from Chris Wood and McNeill went wide as Newcastle secured their first league victory of the season.
Opta statsNewcastle recorded their first win in 16 matches in all competitions, having lost seven and drawn eight of their previous 15. Newcastle have kept just their second clean sheet in their last 16 games in all competitions, with both shutouts coming at home to Burnley (also 0-0 in August in the League Cup). Since Eddie Howe's first game in charge (from Brentford onwards), Newcastle have averaged 15 shots-per-game (5 on target), compared with just 11 shots-per-game (3 on target) prior to his arrival in the 2021-22 campaign.Only Joshua King (48) has scored more goals in the Premier League under Eddie Howe's management than Callum Wilson (43, 41 for Bournemouth & 2 for Newcastle). What the managers said
Newcastle manager Eddie Howe: "It's an amazing feeling. The supporters at the end - wow, incredible. The reception they've given us all the way through, even with some difficult results, has been exceptional. I was so pleased for the fans that we got the win we desperately needed, it gives everyone a huge lift.
"I don't think we started the game well, but I thought we got a lot better as the game went on. The last period of the game, given we haven't won for so long, was always going to be nervy, but I thought we dealt with it pretty well. When we went to five a back, we looked more solid at the end of the game and the clean sheet is a massive bonus for us.
"Hopefully we can continue to foster the spirit that we've generated in a few weeks. Hopefully we can go on to good things. We needed a win; draws aren't going to keep us in this league. This will give everyone a lift.
"That feeling you get when you win is what you crave, you want I again and again. Hopefully this will give the players that inner belief that we can win. I believe when we are at our best we can compete with all teams in the Premier League and we are going to have to, because we're going to need some results against some of the big guns to achieve our aims."
Burnley manager Sean Dyche: "I thought it was a foul at the time, but I was a long way away. Having looked at it back, I think it was just a clumsy challenge from their player but not a foul.
"We had a strong first half, we looked the more likely [to score] but one mistake ends up defining the whole game. The goal got them out of jail a little bit because I thought we were playing well at the time.
"I was generally pleased with the reaction, but we didn't do enough to get something from the game. We're not far away, we generally never are, but we need to find better moments.
"You could smell us getting an equaliser which we did, but it was chalked off for offside. There was a feeling we would nick something, but we didn't. Sometimes it goes against you, and it did today."
Morrison: A positive performance for Newcastle
Soccer Saturday's Clinton Morrison:
"It'll give the players and all the fans confidence, and Eddie Howe. As a manager, you always want to get that first win… I thought they thoroughly deserved it.
"They went and did a lap of honour after, they clapped all their fans and I understand that. It was a huge victory for Newcastle.
"The goal from Wilson was superb. He's the talisman. Keep him fit and they've definitely got half a chance of staying up. Saint-Maximin on his day as well, he causes a lot of problems. A really positive performance and with better finishing, they could have won by more.
"Eddie Howe and Jason Tindall were kicking every ball. You could hear them, they wanted them to press and the fans got behind them. When those Newcastle fans get behind you, you will deliver.
"From Burnley, it was a flat performance. When Cornet went off, they didn't have a threat. If he's out for a bit of time, he could struggle… It's a big blow because he's scored some fantastic goals.
"It will be a dogfight. Burnley get themselves into this situation a lot and Sean Dyche is experienced, he's a really good manager and they always get out of it. It could be difficult this season but I still think they've got the squad and the payers, and in particular the manager, to get out of it."
Man of the match - Callum Wilson
For the sheer magnitude of the goal, Wilson takes the award. It was a really superb strike too that could easily have gone awry as he reacted the quickest to Pope's drop of the ball. He played some other wonderful balls forward too and after being named a Newcastle captain in midweek, stepped up on Saturday afternoon.
He said after the game: "It has been a tough week mentally, physically and emotionally. It is good to top it off with a win. I came here to try and score goals and play for a big club. I want to be that match-winner and today it has proved to be that.
"Since he [Eddie Howe] has come in it has been fantastic. We knew what we were going to get with him, I gave the lads a heads up as well of what he was going to be like and what training consists of as well.
"Everyone has applied themselves great. We haven't got the win until now, it has been a long time coming. But it's a start and hopefully now this is a catalyst for other things and we can hopefully get more momentum in the league table."
What's next?
Newcastle face Leicester City at the King Power in a game you can see live on Sky Sports Premier League, while Burnley host West Ham United, with both games on Sunday December 12 (2pm). #Sexy Gaming

After four years exploring Ontario cottage country, they purchased Lake of Bays Cottage from a colleague but immediately began to doubt their decision. However, this doubt quickly melted away after they had spent their first summer there.
8 Apr 2021 Black Point Residence, Black Point, Halifax, Nova Scotia Design: Peter Braithwaite Studio photograph : Yurii Suhov Black Point Residence, Halifax, Nova Scotia This expansive Black Point Residence was designed for a retired couple looking for a summer home where their extended family could all gather and spend time together. Located in the harsh climate of the Northumberland Strait in Black Point, Nova Scotia, the architectural design pushes the limit of maritime vernacular seaside fishing and boat sheds.
1 Apr 2021 Kahshe Lake Cottage, The Muskoka Region, Ontario Architects: Solares Architecture photograph : Nanne Springer Kahshe Lake Cottage, Muskoka Region The story of Kahshe Lake Cottage started in 1987, when architect Tom Knezic’s parents bought the water-access property and built a small bunkie as a temporary shelter. Their goal was to then design and build their dream family cottage. When the 1989 recession hit, their plans went on hold.
Mar 29, 2021 MTR Residence, Mont-Tremblant Design: Alain Carle Architect photograph : Félix Michaud MTR Residence, Mont-Tremblant Québec Located on Lac Tremblant, one of Québec’s most highly esteemed lakes, the site presented features as spectacular as they were restrictive. Very steep terrain and high rock cliffs allowed few options for implementation or traffic on the site. A very large flat rock cap on the edge of the lake was chosen as “level 0” and allowed creation of the MTR Residence project’s anchoring identity.
4 Apr, 2021 Elm House, Tupper School District, Halifax, Nova Scotia Design: Peter Braithwaite Studio photo : Julian Parkinson Elm House, Halifax Home, Nova Scotia This house displayed great potential for the young family who had recently purchased the property. Over the decades, this residence had been the subject of a number of poorly executed renovations.

Premier League 2020-21 preview No 15: Sheffield United | Football
Guardian writers’ predicted place: 11th (NB: this isn’t essentially Paul Doyle’s prediction however the common of our writers’ suggestions)
Final season’s place: ninth
Odds to win the league (through Oddschecker): 500-1
If you wish to bore Chris Wilder, ask him about Second Season Syndrome. Somebody did that straight after the ultimate match of final season, a 3-1 defeat at Southampton, and the Sheffield United supervisor retorted peevishly that the ailment was far much less widespread than believed.
He was proper should you agree that 25% is an encouragingly low an infection price. Of the 36 groups this millennium to have survived within the Premier League of their first season after promotion, 27 stayed up of their second season, too. So whereas the likes of Ipswich and Studying can function warnings towards complacency, there are much more constructive examples to encourage Sheffield United as they try to construct on final season’s sensational exploits. Heck, who’s to say (er, other than the Guardian’s Einsteins) that the Blades is not going to emulate the Leicester class of 2015-16 by successful the title of their second season again within the prime flight?
Opponents will probably be higher ready for the Blades this season however that works each methods: Wilder’s gamers, most of whom arrived with little top-flight expertise, can have grown much more canny – individually and collectively – due to final season’s feats. On Wilder’s watch there isn’t any motive to anticipate one of many smartest models within the division to start out malfunctioning. Which doesn’t, in fact, imply there isn’t any scope for upgrades. Quite the opposite, the supervisor would welcome higher high quality in a few key areas and extra depth all through so as to cope higher with accidents and suspensions like those that took the momentum out of United’s drive for Europe.
What makes Wilder and his staff so admired, and so troublesome to play towards, is that they’re an unusually clever mix of solidity and elegance. It’s outlandish for a newly promoted staff to complete the season with the fourth-best defensive document within the Premier League, with solely Liverpool and the Manchester golf equipment conceding fewer targets. Even higher, the Blades had been tight with out being unfavourable as a result of their complete staff utilized a intelligent, enterprising methodology with gusto.
Earlier than becoming a member of in assaults, which they did as a matter of conviction and in an progressive method, United’s three centre-backs excelled of their defensive roles: no Premier League defender made extra interceptions than Chris Basham, although John Egan and Jack O’Connell made nearly as many; all three additionally featured within the league’s prime 20 for clearances made and headers received. The wing-backs, Enda Stevens and George Baldock, secured the flanks whereas providing fixed threats going ahead, and Wilder has strengthened at wing-back by signing Jayden Bogle and Max Lowe from Derby.
How they finished
Dean Henderson was a reassuring presence behind that defence, hardly ever erring and continuously dominating his field, which is likely one of the the reason why nobody conceded fewer targets from set items than United. Henderson’s return to his father or mother membership, Manchester United, left a gap that Wilder hopes to have stuffed with the £18.5m buy of Aaron Ramsdale, who, on the proof of his breakthrough season at Bournemouth, is a sound alternative.
It’s on the different finish the place enchancment continues to be required most. United want to attain extra.
Although their wing-backs are wonderful and their central midfielders harmful – Ollie Norwood conducts play fantastically, John Fleck is deftly chopping and Sander Berge or John Lundstram make telling bursts from deep – United don’t create a large quantity of possibilities. In reality, they’d fewer photographs than anybody within the league. However that’s mainly as a result of Wilder’s emphasis is on the standard of openings somewhat than amount. Which makes it all of the extra vital that the forwards obtain a excessive strike price.

Taking a break
We may be in the middle a 16 day gap in the calendar for the first team at Deepdale but there is still plenty going on for some members of the squad and, of course, much talk on Social Media and forums regarding a possible sale of the club to an American investor. I would suggest there has been much more hype around a potential club sale than the international call ups but nevertheless the fact that North End will have six players on International duty over this long weekend is a credit to the club and to the players involved.
Skipper Alan Browne will, of course be away with the Republic of Ireland and will hope to get some game time against Belgium on Saturday and Lithuania next Tuesday evening. Ali McCann has been called up by Northern Ireland who have a double header against Luxembourg and Hungary. McCann will be hoping to start for his country in both games no doubt. Daniel Iversen has got a very well earned call up for Denmark and he will hoping to get a least a half a game against either the Netherlands or Serbia. Sepp Van Den Berg will be hoping to be involved for the Netherlands U21s in the European Championship qualifiers as Holland face Bulgaria U21s on Friday and Switzerland U21s on Tuesday. Young first year professional Lewis Coulton has been selected for the Scotland U19 Squad as the face three games during the break against Turkey, Hungary and Israel with the Group winners qualifying for the Championships which will be held in Slovakia. Finally young goalkeeper James Pradic is involved with the Wales U17 Squad in a group that includes Slovenia, Turkey and Serbia. The Group Winners will go to the finals in Israel in the Summer along with seven of the runners up. North End would have had a seventh player involved but unfortunately Cameron Archer had to pull out of the England U20 Squad due to illness. Good luck to all the lads and let`s hope they all come back safe and sound ready for the final eight games starting at Derby next Saturday.
Much talk this week about Chris Kirchner and his attempt to buy the club from the Hemmings family. The potential buyer was over in the UK for a few days earlier this week and was allegedly spotted at both Springfield's and Euxton looking at North End`s current set up. I don`t profess to be anywhere near an expert on sale and purchase agreements and contracts but the word coming out from the club this week is that only one of the six requirements for the sale to go ahead has been satisfied. I would assume that is it that there has been a offer made buy the potential purchaser to the vendor and that offer has been accepted. I don`t think that for one moment that the other 5 requirements are stuck at square one but it is obvious these things take time and it would appear there is still some work to do. Mr Kirchner did take to twitter this week on his flight out of the country and while he couldn`t be specific on any updates on the sale or on North End, due to Non Disclosure Agreements, he did offer some insight into what his vision for the future might be for a Championship Club under his ownership. Some will guess, some will speculate, some will have an inside view of what is actually going on or where the deal is up to, but until it is announced on the official website then I guess we will just have to keep on wishing, hoping or not hoping as might be the case for some people. The bottom line for me is that we have juggled up and down for many decades without ever being back at the top table of English Football. Anything that may give us a better chance of achieving those ambitions gets my vote. You can guarantee that the Hemmings family won`t sell until the right buyer comes along and if that is not Chris Kirchner then I am sure there is other interest out there.
And finally this week:- that big derby game against Blackpool is getting closer and closer and although North End have a hugely important game at Derby next Saturday my mind can`t help wandering to Tuesday April 5th at Deepdale. The atmosphere, the flags, the TV Cameras all there inside Deepdale for what should be a fantastic evening to celebrate Sir Tom Finney`s 100th Birthday. This has all the potential to be a night that will be remembered for a long time as Deepdale pays tribute to it`s finest son. Home tickets are selling really well but if you haven`t got yours yet then get them quickly and cheer the boys on with that huge Deepdale roar.
