I am absolutely obsessed with this little moment here.
Phee has just openly stated how much Omega deserves friends her own age who aren’t any of her family members. and Tech rebuts that they “never had such a thing”. which Phee sarcastically throws back in his face.
up until now, Hunter has been very open about how he wants Omega to have a normal life, away from war. he’s proud of her abilities in combat, but he still wishes she could just be a kid. he’s so set on this that the thought of a “future” for him solely revolves around his little sister getting to grow up in a way he never got to experience.
now, while I’m sure the others agree with him, none of them have been as adamant about it as Hunter has. at any given moment, Hunter will state this desire, or at least give some indication that it’s on his mind. it’s literally all he wants in life.
however. I don’t think the thought of Omega having friends outside of the family ever actually crossed Hunter’s mind. Omega is super friendly and has already made several friends by this point (Cut’s kids, Trace and Rafa, Hera, Gungi, Riyo, Benni, even Phee herself). I don’t think he ever thought she needed that though. after all, she has the rest of the family! they’ll always be there for her; they are her friends!
but I think Tech’s words here are what affect him the most. “we never had such a thing.” dang. he’s right. they didn’t have any other friends outside of each other. and judging by Phee’s reaction, that’s apparently a problem.
so now we have yet another thing that Hunter wants to give Omega that he doesn’t know how to give her. and he barely has time to even process this before that message from Cid comes in.
no wonder he was so happy to see Omega instantly bond with Lyana once they got to Pabu 🥺
